Haven't caught up on today's news yet so apologies if I've missed anything exciting!

Potxola Niko is very cute. What a gorgeous smile! Your DH is English, isn't he? By the way, DD said her first word in Spanish today (several times)! It was 'hola'. She isn't even saying hello in English yet! I think she finds 'hola' easier. Maybe it's not going to be so hard to teach her once she starts being able to say a few more words in English. But I was so proud! I don't speak to her much in Spanish but it just shows she does listen when I do!

I had a nice birthday yesterday. Unfortunately DH was either at work or sleeping (he had both morning and night shifts) but my parents came round for cake in the morning then I went to see my NCT friends in the afternoon. One of them had got me flowers and a card and a bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate! So I had my first half glass since I've been pregnant - I didn't really feel I could refuse and I have to admit I really enjoyed it! Out of the 4 of us though 2 were pregnant and one breastfeeding so she was left with most of it! Then in the evening my parents took me out for a meal while DH and DD slept (they both had wine but I resisted this time!).

The only downside was wicked heartburn and a bad night's sleep......the joys of late pregnancy!

Very exciting about sunshinemummy - without checking I assume there's been no news as she'll be in hospital still but I'm looking forward to hearing how the second elective c-section went!

jearund · 20/08/2008 21:53

Nellyonthetelly if you find a good doll will you let me know as we were thinking of doing the same for DD - she'll be 19 months

jearund · 20/08/2008 21:59

Starlight the same thing happened to me when I went to the dentist 2 weeks ago - she said she was going to do some X-Rays and I said "I AM still pregnant - big bump!". She laughed and said she hadn't actually looked, she'd just looked at my mouth! So we've postponed the X-Rays, needless to say.....

Just had a phone call to say that one of my friends had her baby today - a girl called Emilia Joy. And a friend of a friend had a boy called Leo. Its baby mania!
I need to get dd a doll too. Today at her godmother's house she got a doll, put it in the highchair and 'fed' it. I could have melted it was just toooo cute.
Having said we'll get her a doll and a lion floor rug 'from the baby' we'd better actually get on and do it...but first I must pack my bag

jearund · 20/08/2008 22:09

Re when to go into hospital: just want to remind people that if your waters break you should go straight in so they can examine you. You're at risk of an infection once they've broken (and as I've posted before on this thread, that happened to me and ended in an emergency CS)

jearund · 20/08/2008 22:13

ok really dumb question, but what are muslin squares for?

jearund · 20/08/2008 22:19

Starlight When mine broke they said to come in but after they'd checked me they said it was up to me whether I stayed in or went home as I hadn't yet started having contractions (and didn't for another 9 hours). Of course I chose to go home! No one even mentioned the possibility of an infection but given what happened, with hindsight I'd have stayed in because they'd have picked it up a lot sooner if I'd been in hospital. Night night!

barnpot we need to update it every day (first person to post should do it) otherwise we'll lose track of how many days left each person has (as Starlight pointed out we have to take one off for everyone every day - eg so tomorrow Potxola will be 5). Muslin squares: we didn't really use them with DD but they are for anything and everything - catching possett (drape over your shoulder while winding), hiding your modesty while bf and I imagine also catching wee with the little boys (this time we'll be packing them!). I'm sure someone else can come up with lots of other uses too!

slinkiemalinki · 20/08/2008 22:24

muslin squares are generally for wiping up little bits of milk that come back up, bless em (posseting and entirely normal). But they have a myriad of uses!

DebitheScott My pleasure. Here is the address. It is delivered free, first class.
You need the 200C. And yes you can take it after a normal birth. It helps with the healing.

i love muslin squares...i now use them if ds has a cold to put karvol or olbas oil on!

I know lots of people who use them instead of bibs. I've got some packed for the hospital.

Night night all

kiskidee · 20/08/2008 22:47

I did a youtube search with Ina May Gaskin's name and this came up.
