I had my appointment at Kings today, the consultant was tutting a bit about late referral, he's referring me to some professor, and I have to go back to the consultant in 2 weeks as well - I have a cardiac appointment at St Georges tomorrow, and physio on Friday - I seem to be dragging poor dd off to hospitals all the time and they take up half the day with travelling and waiting around.

I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to go on a hospital tour, I have no idea where the labour ward even is, and dd was early, I'm feeling v unprepared, but still haven't done more than buy some mini toiletries to take with me. All baby clothes still in storage...

I've started reading one of the Ina May Gaskin books - some interesting terminology, like the woman who massaged her "gates of life" !!

Better be off to bed, though however much sleep I get I always feel tired

carrieon - I have so many days to go it's taken me all my remaining brain power to do the maths!

popsycal .... welcome, welcome. We find ourselves on the same 'due in' thread again!! How's your ds? My dd2 is 3.5 but thinks she's 6 like her big sister! And is delighted to be becoming a big sister herself. Though no doubt she'll go off the idea when the baby is born and she realises they're not that exciting!

Once we are all on presumably we will just have one person updating the numbers each morning (first person on who has the time?) so that the thread isn't just filled up with lists . Strange to be thinking in days rather than weeks - 1 mth tomorrow for me... bit scary when it gets into single figures

slinkiemalinki · 21/08/2008 11:06

When my waters broke around midnight I was told I could go in or "wait and see". I wish I had waited as actually a couple of trips back and forth for fetal monitoring quite stressful and probably didn't help (I needed to be induced in the end, but only with a pessary).

have added myself to the list butit sounds like there is less time left when you do it in weeks

hopefully · 21/08/2008 11:16

I really need to get into gear, am sat merrily on the sofa in DPs my dressing gown, watching the olympics. I am such a lazy so and so!

Pidge · 21/08/2008 11:17

My waters broke second time round before labour began, and I was planning a homebirth. So I was told "give us another call when things are really kicking off". I started having mild contractions about 4 hours later, and after my 3 day horrible labour first time round kept waiting for things to "really kick off" before pestering the midwives again. With the result that I was already in transition when I phoned them, and they literally arrived with minutes to spare! Oops.

As far as I'm aware they only start worrying about your waters having broken if you don't go into labour naturally within a set period.

jenpet · 21/08/2008 11:29

I'm sure as someone said earlier there is an increased risk of infection after about 24 hours, which is why they like to keep an eye on you if nothing is happening...although I wouldn't know first hand as my waters never broke with DS1 and as soon as the midwife prodded me with that big spike thingy and broke them he shot out in a rush with not a thing me or anyone else could do about it!!!

mustsleep · 21/08/2008 11:32

my waters broke with dd at 8.30 and was told to go straight into hospital i went they monitored me for a couple of hours then said nothing was happening and to come back if nothing had started by wednesday morning (it was monday night)

went home and then had to go straight back

eandz · 21/08/2008 11:45

You guys, I really want to be over with the pregnancy and just have my baby in my arms. the boredom is killing me.

mustsleep · 21/08/2008 11:49

ditto eandz am completely fed up and sick of being uncomfortable

would be ideal if i could have him before the school term starts again aswell as it would get the first week or so out of the way without me having to rush out every morning

will have to try some remedie soon

eandz · 21/08/2008 11:52

mustsleep i'm glad i'm not alone in this one .

ok, so seriousl question; i;ve been told that with an induction the rate of stillbirth is slightly higher...and i was thinking about being induced in week 37 by suggestion of my shady doctor.

Pidge · 21/08/2008 11:54

eandz & mustsleep - sympathy from me. Though I'm the reverse, wanting the baby to stay put until our builders are out and I actually have somewhere to give birth! The only thing I can recommend is having lots of things lined up to do to distract you. But it's easier said than done isn't it. I mentally have always assumed my babies will be late, which makes the waiting game easier as I don't even begin to get into baby mode until about a week before my due date.

hopefully · 21/08/2008 11:55

I wasn't aware they still did inductions that early? Thought it was generally accepted that 38 weeks (for single babies) was about as early as you wanted to start messing around with nature? Although I may be totally and entirely wrong here, particularly given your various health issues Eandz

eandz · 21/08/2008 12:04

hopefully
i don't know anything about inductions to be honest. the doctor just mentioned it as an option and this morning i was just soo fed up i decided i was going to look into it.
