notcitrus that BIL sounds bad, but I empathise coz I have a truly abominable BIL. My b is even worse, his wife had her baby at home with no problems at all and he said to the family "That's the way to have a baby" as if he'd done it himself and women who say 'ouch' and go to hospital are just a bunch of attention seekers!!! . Re- natural nappies, I was going to wait til after LO is born before getting all the gear.... is that unwise? I didn't know some places have grants - how amazing, I'll have to check it out here.

carrieon, sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly. I've been feeling exhausted too and pretty nauseous if I exert myself too much. But my m keeps reminding me how hard my body must be working to make a whole other person, it makes sense that it's going to wipe us out in the end doesn't it? I just want to know how those women who go into labour and don't realise they're pregnant, don't realise!

potxola I think you're right to be cautious!

DebitheScot I love those names too.

Re: nesting: have just cleaned out my kitchen cupboard with spices/herbs/oil/vinegar in it. I feel so calmed by every bit of tidying I do!

Amore orange yoghurt = my downfall.........
I want to do

MunkiMom · 19/08/2008 23:23

Evening, everyone. Thanks for all the 'welcomes'! it's nice to be back on MN. ((previously was
on the thread of Sept 2006 babies, seems ages ago))
for the 2nd week, DH is away for work. this week is particularly difficult with the recent botched burglary not far
from my home...imoscarsmum may have seen it on the bbc wales local news. a woman was attacked while sleeping in the night
last friday by the burglars..she was 38 weeks pregnant as well . its in the next town but only about half a mile from my house,
so you can imagine my discomforts of dh being away this week.

over the last week, i've had not-so-nice burning sensations around my belly button, on the outside
of the belly. i have a suspicion its just the skin stretching, so just in case, i've busted out the
bio-oil. and i think i've reached the state of pregnancy when the feet/ankles start to swell.
((i have enjoyed pregnancy so far but as its been mentioned earlier on today, the last weeks are
a bit tiring at times, ahh the joys of it all, eh?!?))

hiya mellabella ~ i was given the 21st in the beginning of the pregnancy, but since has been moved
a day forward when we had the 20 wk scan.

as far as moving to the UK, DH is british. we were married in the states and after 5 years in california,
i felt we were ready for something different. ((oh dear, that sounds horribly selfish!)) oh, well. :P
he was ready for the move back to his "motherland" anyways.

((i think someone mentioned you were from the states as well?)) or have i got it mixed up?!?

jennylindinha ~ you're not the only one that doesn't feel prepared! 5 weeks here, i have purchased things
but they are in bags and not in drawers..hospital bag? ha! only just starting to get it sorted...but its still in a
shopping bag. we have yet to agree on a name, also...it will all come together in the end....one way or another!

carrieon sorry to hear you aren't feeling up to par lately. your symptoms are very peculiar so keep us posted with what
the gp/midwife says!

Sunshinemummy · 20/08/2008 04:05

Hi all and apologies about the peripatetic nature of my visis these days but I've been up and down to the hospital again so am finding it hard to find the time.

Anyway, news from the Sunshinemummy front is that my BP had risen again yesterday despite the fact that I've been on Lalbetamol for the last few days, so my section that was planned for next week has been brought forward to this morning (hence my lack of sleep and mumsnetting at 3am). Although it's what I'd planned all along, I'm a little freaked by it and feel totally unready! Thankfully DP took last week off and did loads of jobs round the house.

Anyway, congrats to Sass and mustsleep. Eandz who's your consultant? I have the feeling it's the same one as me and I must admit my experience of him is totally different. He's been super-supportive and has totally let me dictate the terms of what will happen (at least until the BP went up anyway). Sorry you've had such a tough time.

Right must go - just managed to wake DP up cheering on the British women in the Open Water race (oops) so should really head back to bed and try and get some sleep. Not sure when I'll get chance to get on here again but will see if I can access from hospital, if not I'll be back home by Saturday I hope, with baby Baloo (fingers crossed).

WombFor1More · 20/08/2008 09:01

Ooooh sunshine how exciting for you. Not about bp but at least you know you will soon have your gorgeous dd in your arms. Good luck, can't wait to hear your happy news

WombFor1More · 20/08/2008 09:02

(btw am very )

MummyToOneForNow · 20/08/2008 09:08

For those struggling with names there is a link to a link with an excel spreadsheet of the top 2000 names for 2007 below. Interesting to see the relative popularity of different spellings of a name if you are unsure of which spelling to choose. We are avoiding names that have different spellings that are both common. Also good to see the popularity of names that might not be in the top 100.

link to link for lists hope this works!

splishsplosh · 20/08/2008 09:08

Good luck Sunshinemummy, can't wait to hear news of your arrival

Pidge · 20/08/2008 09:10

ipanemagirl - personally I would get a small set of real nappies before the baby arrives, because if you're anything like me afterwards you'll be so overwhelmed you'll keep putting it off and never get round to it. That's what happened to us with dd1. Then with dd2 we inherited some when she was 3 months old and realised how easy it was and never looked back. So this time I'm even going to try to use them from the really newborn stage.

JennyL - good work on the biking. I'm managing the cycle ride twice a week at the moment, and it's 40 minutes each way. I have a week off next week on holiday, so we'll see if I can still get on the bike when I return.

Sunshinemummy - wow another baby imminent. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

potxola · 20/08/2008 09:32

Sunshinemummy I am thinking of you this morning. Enjoy your gorgeous dd. How exciting!!!!!!!
Have I missed something? Mustsleep, have you had your baby already? I am going to check the older post again, but I am sure the last one was Sassafrass.

mumiyumi · 20/08/2008 10:09

wow another baby thinking of you sunshine ...i want mine now!!

Hope all well with everyone, hope your feeling better today carrieon! i'm feeling shattered as had an awful night with really bad period pain....but it's gone now so presume i'm just warming up!

imoscarsmum · 20/08/2008 10:14

Morning all - can't wait to hear about sunshine's new arrival - how exciting. Feels a bit strange to be having lots of babies in August in the due Sept thread!

Munkimom I did see the story about the pregnant woman who was attacked. What bastards - her DH was also attacked too. My DP is also away until the end of the week, so I now how it feels to be alone at night. just remember, attacks like this are very rare and try not to worry. I sometimes leave the light on by the front and back doors overnight if I'm feeling jumpy.

Well, my news is that today my bump has dropped noticably in the night - gave me quite a shock this morning as I was carrying quite high. On the plus side hope that means I can breathe better but also hope it doesn't mean labour will be early!! I have 4 and a bit weeks to go and I'm not ready yet!!! I read in my pregnancy book that the head engaging means labour comes in 2 - 4 weeks. 4 weeks, fair enough but 2 is too soon!!! Any thoughts anyone?

hopefully · 20/08/2008 10:19

Sunshine sending good thoughts your way, can't wait to hear the exciting news about your baby girl putting in an appearance!

Carrieon hope you're feeling better today. Sounds like baby octopus is supremely unconcerned by your illness!

I slept sooooo well last night. I literally only got up about half an hour ago. Was the first night for ages where I haven't had weird dreams and things, and DP\s snoring hasn't woken me up. I also made natural mouthwash with peppermint and tea tree oil and water for DP, as he has developed a tendency to roll over and breathe heavily (with manky morning breath) on me at about 5am - worked a treat!

imoscarsmum · 20/08/2008 10:25

Ooh - should probably create a separate thread for this question, hope you don't mind me posting here first - my mum texted last night and said her and her DP would come up in about 4 weeks on Saturday (ie my due date) and hopefully get to see the new LO.
I am not happy as we don't have a good relationship, her DP is an arse and frankly, even if flumpet arrives in time (obviously not guaranteed!), I don't really want any visitors for the first day or so (including mums, sisters etc) as DP and I want to spend a day or so getting to know our new arrival.
How do I tell this to her nicely?!!

Pitufina · 20/08/2008 10:39

Sunshinemummy - How exciting knowing that you'll be holding your baby so soon. Looking forward to hearing of the arrival.Thinking of you today.

MunkiMom · 20/08/2008 10:54

imoscarsmum ~ breaking this sort of news to family is a difficult one. however, i think if you are just straight forward about it, tell her right away that you and DP really would like to have the first few nights (or week) to have as a family to bond, and get back on your feet, etc. so maybe politely suggest they arrive in 5 weeks...instead of 4? or for them to wait (if possible) til you have the baby and make plans from there. ((you never know, yours could arrive in the 2 week late time frame...hopefully not, but i think its well worth reminding the parents of this))

good luck!

eandz · 20/08/2008 11:21

sunshinemummy,
my consultant is dr hazem el rafey. i'm not sure who the alternative doctor is yet since he hasn't called to confirm an appointment (his secretary is out of town) and the appointment we had was called off. but he did have a long long long chat with my husband where my husband politely told him to back off about telling me i was definitely going to get it.

to be honest, he is a very capable doctor; i'm just not sure about how insistent he gets. but the thing is, i am quite spoiled because when i had to go to the doctors i only saw doctors my mother knew personally and although she never got my info (doctor patient confidentiality) anyone who treated me knew she was a lion when it came to her kids so my options were always presented to me for the picking and choosing.

eandz · 20/08/2008 11:23

Sunshinemummy,

I forgot to say Good luck, tons of love and lots of cuddles to your beautiful new baby. .

potxola · 20/08/2008 11:29

Imoscarsmum my advise would be to tell her in a way that you are absolutely sure she gets the message so you don't worry in the meantime.
*Mum I would love you to see the baby when I get the feeding established and the midwife has come to check him or her at home, that way she will be putting on weight and you can enjoy the visit more without worring about it. I hope you don't mind, but WE HAVE DECIDED to wait to have visitors till (2 weeks after the birth or whatever you decide).

It is your baby and you have to learn lots of things that won't come naturaly with someone you don't want at home.

Good luck!

lollipopmother · 20/08/2008 11:33

Good luck Sunshine, it's all very exciting!

Today I have woken up feeling nervous, not mentally/psychologically, but my body is racing with adrenaline, I feel like I'm taking an exam or something!

Imoscarsmum - Becoming engaged does not start the timer ticking when it comes to labour I'm afraid, you can become engaged at 33w and still go to term, as becoming engaged is dependant on various things, such as having already had a baby, having strong stomach muscles, being very active/being sporty and various other things too, it doesn't mean you're imminently going to go into labour I'm afraid.

eandz · 20/08/2008 11:43

oooh lollipopmother,
do you think you might go into labor today? (ahh!!!! i'm excited for you if you do!) are you bouncing on anything? drinking your juices and have you had enough rasberry leaf tablets/tea? i was determined to go into labor yesterday until i realized that i might not be able to bring him home with me right away.

my baby sister went back home today, so i'm a bit sad ...

imoscarsmum · 20/08/2008 12:03

lollipopmother thanks for your advice re engaging and don't worry I'm very glad it doesn't mean labour is imminent! Quite happy going to full-term as I'm quite looking forward to going on maternity leave and having a couple of weeks of R&R. I have worked full-time since I was 18, so having more than 2 weeks off will be very strange

Thanks Munkimom and Potxola for your word of advice. I know I have to be honest with her but I still find it hard as all the negative feelings from my childhood come back (won't bore you with details but she found motherhood difficult and my DS and I bore the brunt of this). Luckily DP is right on my side and always sticks up for me in front of her (I am so lucky to be with him).

Eandz keep calm, and try to relax. I'm sure your baby will come out when the time is right. Don't be sad or lonely, spend the day pampering yourself until your frind comes to stay (later this week I think?).

imoscarsmum · 20/08/2008 12:05

Just to be clear - DS = dear sister. i didn;t have a son at age 12 or anything like that!!!

eandz · 20/08/2008 12:25

imoscarsmum,
thanks! i'll get on the pampering regime now by filing my nails and making coffee dates for the coming week.

mustsleep · 20/08/2008 12:28

poxtola nope no baby yet just a lot of back ache

have been moving the furniture around this morning and spent a long time sorting out the cupboard in the kids room so this may be a sign

also had a lot of mucus this morning down below sorry for tmi
but as it wasn;t yellow or green or anything don;t think it can have been a show - although i have never seen one before so i wouldn't really know

now just a bit of vaccing to do but my back seizesup as soon as i start doing anything so maybe not!

DebitheScot · 20/08/2008 12:43

ooooo that's exciting about sunshine, she's probably had it by now. I had the same blood pressure issues as she has had in both her pregnancies in my last one. So far it's been fine this time but I have the midwife this afternoon so will see how it is then. I don't want it to go up because sitting for hours in the assessment place getting monitored is very boring and obviously high bp can be dangerous. But it would be nice to have a bit more of a clue about when this baby is going to be born.

Thanks for that link mummytoonefornow It's good being in Excel as you can find a name really easily and see where it is on the list. Some of the spellings people make up for names are hilarious.
