Well that was cutting it a bit fine...

That is it I am not washing the brand new clothes either. Thanks ladies.

Meglet I don't know what to say. Buy him one of this boxing punch things that you hang from the wall and tell him to burn his energy there. We, pregnant women don't need that, do we?

Becaroo I just know if I were you I would call the tommy's pregnancy information line:
0870 777 30 60
or the Cow and gate midwife line 08457 623623. They will probably agree with the dr. but it would make me feel better. I am sure you will not be the first one to ask about it. I have called them a lot and they have always been very helpful.

potxola · 19/08/2008 15:37

DebitheScot I LOVE the name Ciara. I know lots of Emilys. It is very popular at the moment.

MelT76 · 19/08/2008 15:45

Just got back from my midwife appt. BP was high last week. It is now ok but have trace of glucose in urine, so she now saying to watch for gestational diabeties. think it might have something to do with the pint of lemonade I drank before I did my sample So still have to see her weekly now. Think she just likes my visits!!

Baby is now 3/5 acording to notes. So on his way maybe??

notcitrus · 19/08/2008 16:14

Thanks for the links Pidge! No nappy grants in Lambeth sadly, but what with hand-me-downs from SILs 1+2, and MrNC getting more off Ebay (he's been applying his engineering mind to the problem and has nappy-changing down to a fine art...), we should be OK.

Builders and girders turned up today! The builders claim they will be here every day for the next 3 weeks and get the job finished - I've heard that one before, but it's significant progress and now the girders are in, they can get on with the rest of it. I've been nesting on the sofa where the noise isn't bad.

MrNC's little brother phoned today to share his words of wisdom on babies (SIL3's baby is now 3 weeks). Just as well I didn't take the call - according to him there's no benefit to breastfeeding, and private care is worth it because the NHS won't induce you on your due date, just to save costs. And various other patronising and inaccurate bits. MrNC just went 'hmm' at intervals while half-asleep...

mellabella · 19/08/2008 16:21

hey bogie, yes definitely looking forward to tomorrow afternoon!

We have our last scan tomorrow morning to check on the baby's lateral ventricles (in the brain). They were on the upper end of normal during the 20 weeks scan and we've been going back in every 4 weeks to make sure they haven't grown. During the last scan, the doc (bless him, he's a fabulous doc and we couldn't be luckier with our consultant!) said that I was exposed to CMV at some time during the pregnancy so they have to check and make sure it hasn't been passed on to the baby, so that's the other reason for the late scans. I'm really excited to see our little guy one last time before he arrives!! I'm hoping they'll be able to see how big he is so we can at least get a small estimate on how much baby I've got in there. MIL is coming with for the scan so she's really excited as well. So far baby looks perfectly healthy aside from the small complications we've faced along the way so tomorrow will just get to be another little glimpse at our little man

welcome munkimom! You're due a day before me. What made you move to the UK?

kiskidee · 19/08/2008 16:27

lol Starlight, maybe I should write a cheeky acknowledgement asking why they haven't also put a terror warning in too, just in case.

my doula also laughed. she said, why would they think I would want to come onto a ward that is already short staffed? I am better off staying home!

Pidge · 19/08/2008 16:33

notcitrus - go and shout at Lambeth! I'm in Southwark and we get a grant. It's bonkers that the coverage is so patchy isn't it.

Had a good chuckle at your BILs baby expertise. One of the most important skills as a parent is selective deafness, because you will be told all sorts of drivel you don't believe in!

notcitrus · 19/08/2008 16:50

Pidge - checked Lambeth's website and they do have links to the Real Nappy Campaign, inlcuding how easy they are and where you can buy them nearby. I think there's a few schemes to help parents on low incomes get reusable nappies, too.

This is the BIL who calls me and MrNC a pair of commies, on the grounds that we like public transport and don't plan to send our offspring to private schools (note that all of the BIL/MrNC family went to state schools, whereas I was private school all the way thanks to mainstreaming not having started yet...) So we're well used to ignoring them! I was surprised at the lack of any breastfeeding attempts simply because I'd expect SIL3 to be wanting to get her figure back ASAP! Could be that she tried, couldn't get it to work, and is now justifying it, of course.

eandz · 19/08/2008 17:18

hi everyone!!!

we're meeting with my consultant tomorrow and the possible replacement.

re our consultant he's apologized for pushing the therapist on me, he just feels that he's being 'preventative' about the pnd he thinks i'm likely to get. but my husband explained about our late miscarriage last year and if i didn't get upset about a horrific experience like that without a support system it's unlikely i'll be getting sad when our baby comes when i do have friends, family and help around me for the first few weeks helping me to adjust.

my baby sister goes home tomorrow and i'll be alone for a few days before one of my best friends comes to stay with me (she's hoping to be godmother to my son).

jennylindinha · 19/08/2008 17:20

Hi All, just catching up.

Notcitrus - I am a lambeth girl too! We must be quite near each other. Don't think I would have been able to sit through a conversation like MrNC had to with his brother. He sounds like my idiot of a brother who is very opinionated about everything but actually knows nowt!

Will check out the nappy info Pidge as I'm keen to try real nappies (although not at first...) I am still cycling like you although I've taken to leaving the bike half way and getting a bus so I'm a little less knackered at work in these last few weeks. My replacement started yesterday for the handover and I am already sick of the sound of my voice droning on about procedures.

Becaroo - glad your AFI has gone done too, that must be a relief! I wouldn't worry too much about the other stuff. The last sonographer I saw told me to stay away from scans and I'd be fine! I think they are just overcautious as they don't want anyone suing them because they didn't pick up on every minute detail and follow it up. Bad news about the infection though and that they didn't think to tell you...

Hello & welcome to MunkiMum!

Well, I've less than 6 weeks to go and I've not really bought anything for me or the baby, not washed anything that I do have (let alone iron it!), have no names sorted (we keep disagreeing) and the flat is still a complete mess. Disorganised to say the least! But - I have really enjoyed being pregnant and know that I'm lucky not to have had any really big problems .

star So if my notes say 2/5th engaged, does that mean the babys head is 3/5th engaged???

Sorry, brain just not up to this today

mumiyumi · 19/08/2008 18:24

Hello all, Sorry to hear of your dp problems meglet my ex was very unpredictable and i never knew when he was gonna blow!! was scary stuff

I've been anal and washed and ironed ....yes i did say ironed .... all of the baby clothes, i love to see them on the line and how fresh they smell afterwards, the novelty will no doubt wear off after a few weeks of constant washing!! i did it all for my ds so feel it's only fair i do the same this time!

Welcome munkimom we only have sex at Christmas also...my ds b'day 1st sept and this one due 13th,

notcitrus · 19/08/2008 18:30

jenny - are you coming to the Streatham meetup on the 26th? See the 'Antenatal classes in Streatham?' thread - it's at Perfect Blend at 5.30.

Starlight - don't worry, MrNC also has some annoying traits and is very human!

lollipopmother · 19/08/2008 18:35

Becaroo - Your notes are likely to say 3/5 palpable, which means that 3/5th of the head can be felt, and the other 2/5th are in the pelvis. If however your notes say 3/5th engaged then you are as it suggests, 3/5th engaged and thus only have 2/5th left to go, iyswim?

Potoxla - I love your restraint, all my baby clothes have been washed, ironed and sorted into size/colour/arms/legs etc, I wish I was a bit more normal, and a bit less PFBish!

Munkimom - Welcome to the tread!

Had my last check with the hospital today, and am (apparantly) 2cm dilated. Quite pleased at that!! However, is anyone else suffering terribly with backache now? It's ok if I'm sat down, or in bed, but as soon as I stand up it almost makes me fall over again!! It's that kind of pain that almost makes you laugh iykwim! I did mention it at the appt earlier & the obst. just kind of shrugged in a French kind of way

yes jenpet i know exactly what you mean, if i stand or walk for longer than 2 mins get the worst back ache!! was kinda hopoing seeing as how i am 37 plus 2 days that it may be the beginnings of labour!

dh was not impressed with the huge pile of tools! and has yet to sort them out

Pitufina · 19/08/2008 19:59

Just been to have my BP checked. just had a look at my notes and saw that in the "relation to brim column" she had written : at brim. Is that good?!? Does this mean that the baby is kind of thinking: well, I might go down a bit?! Not sure I quite follow.

barnpot · 19/08/2008 20:22

hi all. baby bob keeps bouncing in and out of my pelvis, Its so uncomefortable when hes in it, I wonder if its the same for him thats why he keeps coming out again?
Have finished work a week early, had MW check up she told me I had x1 plus of protein and my bp was up. she said if I didn't slow down she would be admitting me for bed rest. which IMO is more stressfull than staying at home, so hence I have stopped doing a lot of things, even DH has taken over the house work. love him xx
I have (DH more like) has washed and ironed all baby clothes, purely because I'm allergic to the stuff they wash the clothes in

DebitheScot · 19/08/2008 20:36

potxola thanks for the thoughts on Ciara and Emily. You have prompted me to print off the top 50 boys' and girls' names in England and Wales and the top 100 in Scotland for 2007. The Scottish one even tells you how many of each name there was!
Emily was number 4 in England and number 8 in Scotland so maybe it is a bit common.
Keira was number 38 in England and 33 in Scotland but doesn't appear in either list spelt Ciara (surprising as that is the Scottish way to spell it). So I think I may have made an executive decision on Ciara, lets hope dh agrees!

One of our many boy options is Lewis but it was number 1 in Scotland (only 16 in England) last year so that's obviously very common too (and it's not even a Scottish name). Mind you ds is Cameron and that is number 6 in Scotland so quite common too.

The lists are slightly misleading though coz of names like Amy and Caitlin that can be spelt several ways.

carrieon · 19/08/2008 20:52

Hello everyone, been quite ill, feeling a bit better this evening but catching up on 5 pages of thread has worn me out again! Started feeling really weird at about 6pm last night, went for a lie-down but couldn't get comfy, just lay there in the dark for ages and ages. Had diarrhoea all through the night and threw up a couple of times too. Generally very little sleep, and dh had to take today off work to look after dd coz I've been good for nothing. He's completely knackered poor love coz I kept waking him over night (well I couldn't suffer alone could I?!!! ) and although he is brilliant with dd and loves spending all day with her, the housework side of things doesn't come naturally - he doesn't think to wash her highchair tray after one meal for example so that its ready for the next one! So downstairs is a scene of carnage but I'm trying not to let it get to me...I can sort it out when I feel better! And he did spontaneously buy me a copy of mother&baby magazine when he took dd out for a walk
I am starting to feel a bit more human this evening and even had some dinner, but generally feel quite weak and dizzy. My mouth is really dry but I've drunk too much water and its making me feel sick.
At least baby octopus is fine - dancing an irish jig as always. I'm wondering if babies can have adhd in the womb? Seriously, this one is a candidate. Nothing about it is engaged, its roaming free!
I was supposed to see the midwife this morning for my 34 week check, but had to phone and cancel. I phoned the surgery at 8:15am, but apparently its only an emergency line until 8:30, so although the lady 'agreed' to cancel my appt, she said I had to phone back after 8:30 to book a new one. And clearly I remembered to do that .
Sorry for the moan.

carrieon · 19/08/2008 22:10

Oh dear I seem to have scared everyone else away...will just talk to myself then

potxola · 19/08/2008 22:23

DebitheScott I am glad you decided against Emily. I did check a while back because some little sisters of my ds playgroup friends were called Emily or Alice. I also considered the name Ciara, but it would have been very difficult for my family in Spain to pronounce. My ds is called Niko, I just love short and strong names for boys and musical names for girls, Ciara is musical, if you know what I mean.

Advice please when my baby girl is born I would love to put the picture of both my children in my now empty profile to share it with you. BUT, as some of you will remember I,we don't keep in touch with none of my family in law, they haven't even met my 4 yr old son yet and they don't know I am expecting.
So we are a bit nervous about putting email addresses or pictures here. They did try to ruin the birth and first year of my son and we have to be careful. I googled myself with some details they know about me and I found myself in MN.
If you have put you email address here, maybe I can find it and email you the pictures. I only have Sassafrass I think.

Anyway, I just think it is a pity that they still stop me from doing something as beautiful as to show pictures of my children to you all.
Sorry for the moan.
