the first time i listened to it, it was harder to tune out the world. but I think it still worked on some level. I only listened to the first 11 mins and ended the session as I had to go get dd from nursery. I found I was a very laid back driver on the way there. Almost too laid back.

My new mission is to listen to it at least 3x a week for the next few wks. (35 wks at the mo)

eandz · 16/08/2008 16:00

kiskidee and starlight,
you guys are soo organized about your delivery stuff. i thought packing a bag was enough.

do you guys know a lot of people who have positive experiences with these cd's?

my doula recommended my CD (google: natal hypnotherapy). she also used it in her home birth. she said she preferred it to they other popular one called 'hynobirthing' which i have never used.

no eandz we aren't 'more prepared' just been down that road before so maybe more prepared by default. if it makes you feel any better, i have not packed a hospital bag 'just in case' yet but i feel like packing one is like tempting fate, iyswim.

I also have received my birthing pool but have not opened the box yet to check if all the parts are there or inflate it yet.
I don't even have big knickers yet for post birth use with pads.

kiskidee · 16/08/2008 16:23

"'ll need nappies and a vest for the birthing pool?"

why do you need nappies and a vest for the birthing pool? something I should know, starlight?

well i can't wait to hear your birth stories starlight and kiskidee!

i get the tempting fate thing. we were avoiding talking about putting a nursery together until the other day when fil came over with baby death traps. it really put safety into perspectives.

biglips · 16/08/2008 17:47

hiya all!!

Just been out on a day out with the kids and Dp and now my head is ready to hit the table!! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!

We went to Farmers Ted farm

hopefully · 16/08/2008 19:36

I've just been listening to my natal hypnotherapy CD again - probably listened to it 8 times now, and hoping to listen every day from now on. No idea if it's making any difference, but I'm very keen on the appearing asleep and then a baby popping out theory starlight! I definitely feel more relaxed after listening to it, so hope it's going to improve things.

Ooh, put the Stokke cot up last night, it's so lovely! Can't wait to bring the baby home now. Still no pram ( at two left feet, the evil mail order company of doom), but apart from that we're doing ok.

digitalgirl · 16/08/2008 21:20

sassafrass sounds like a very smooth birth and so pleased to hear katie's feeding well. your two dd's are gorgeous!

eandz i hope you manage to sort your consultant out. it sounds like you've lost your trust in him which really needs to be addressed as soon as possible. glad to hear your dh is going to take a stand. good prep for the big day.

I've got to go for more monitoring at the hospital on Monday, my blood test results still not within the required range. Anyone know what raised urate and alkaline phosphatase levels mean?

We bought a few more things today - baby bath, top n tail bowl (what are these for anyway?), moses basket stand and a couple of nightdresses for my hospital bag. Decided against a dressing gown, might just bring a cardi in to wear over the night dresses if necessary.

Buggy is now home and sat in the corner all boxed up. Still got to get a cot as I think the one my dad lent us is a bit of a health n safety hazard.

34+4 today. Looking forward to reaching 37 weeks when operation 'get this baby out' can begin in earnest

Thanks starlight i thought that was what it was for, but DH confused me with his clean water/dirty water.
The first of our NCT class to give birth (first timer) mentioned the full clothing changes at nappy change time! She said her little boy has a habit of either pooing or weeing all over his clothes whilst they're trying to change him. Oh the joys!

carrieon · 16/08/2008 23:00

I'm back from holiday! Huge congrats to Sass, I can't believe you're the only one though!! Had a lovely relaxing time away, but dd is teething really badly, she's never failed to settle in the evening before but tonight it took over 2 hours. Dh sat with her and said she fell asleep a couple of times but woke again from the pain
I'm giving birth to an octopus. Fact. The baby has several hours a night of dancing round my insides, its exhausting!
The SPD has got a bit worse, but I've only got 6 weeks to go, so I'll make it. Had fun squeezing quite a lot of colostrum out last night just for a laugh!! Had a couple of BH too. Dh is totally convinced that the baby is a boy, and will come early. We're going away just the two of us for a weekend in 2 weeks, and after that he's starting me on the curry and sex regime. I think he's just sick of me moaning about pregnancy niggles!

I couldn't help seeing there was a discussion about thrush...I didn't know I had it last time and dd picked it up in the birth canal then gave it to me through bf and I had a horrid time of it. If you think you have it, treat it!

Lovely to be back with you all, catch up again soon

eandz · 16/08/2008 23:22

digitalgirl
yeah, to be honest i just don't have any confidence left in him at all! i think i'm just going to swallow the deposit we paid out of pocket and switch to midwife care. (insurance won't reimburse us until he delivers the baby).

slinkiemalinki · 17/08/2008 02:09

Hi eandz - this consultant sounds absolutely horrendous - I feel guilty for even suggesting C&W in the first place. Are you going to switch to NHS midwifery care? They won't take you as a midwifery patient privately at C&W as you have to be low risk I thought - have you thought about going back to your original consultant at the Portland if you can bear it? Or at least switching doctors - I can't think of anything worse than having someone turning up when I was in labour who had made me unhappy and in whom I had no confidence. hope you get it sorted.

Sassafrass · 17/08/2008 09:02

Morning everyone,

Had a slightly better night for sleeping as my milk has come in in abundance. On the positive, means that baby is getting very full. Negative- I feel like my boobs might explode!

I had a serious bout of baby blues yesterday and was very irrational and annoyed at everything. But I feel more positive today. DD1 is going off with her grandparents for the afternoon and for a sleepover which will be nice.

Kiskidee, I remember seeing the photo of all your slings, but surely you can never have too many =)

ipanemagirl · 17/08/2008 09:10

Hello there, congraulations to Sassafrass how exciting!
I haven't kept up with this thread at all, have had my m staying and much coming and going of family and find it hard to get onto the computer. Hope it's ok to drop in like this, I feel a bit like a gatecrasher!
I have until Sept 14thish (in theory) and am massively running out of energy, is that normal does anyone think? I feel a little pathetic about it. I had to keep leaning against things in the supermarket yesterday to rest while m ran around filling up the cart, I just felt nauseous at the thought of doing much. I really just want to go to bed at the mo.
Does anyone else feel as if their baby is eNORmous? I can't believe it's going to take another month but I won't be readu before then I don't think.....
I've almost done my hospital bag but need a new dressing gown, mine is a proper minger and needs replacing!

Re slippers.... have people gone for the fluffy pink mules or flip flops?

eandz · 17/08/2008 10:17

slinkie,
don't worry about suggesting C&W i'd made up my mind about it on my own when i saw it.

what we're going to do is talk to him a final time about how exactly we want to do things. the deposit was quite large so if he can stop being soo pushy we'll stick with him (since we won't get reimbursed if we don't) and i know he won't be in the room alone delivering out child. i don't think he's incompetent he's just a jerk who wants to make sure his entire practice benefits from my insurance.

if things don't pan out, we'll go back to the original doctor and go to the portland (as much as i hate to).

Hi! hope you get what you want and have a nice experience despite all the problems he has been giving you.

I have 10 days to go and I am starting to get nervous. I know I will be in hospital for longer that Sassafrass, she is so brave. Unless the mum who shares the hospital room with me is a pain with lots of visitors, I'd want to stay for at least 4 days after I can move. I need my time with the little one, because once I get home, my DS will be wanting to play with me and run with me in the park like I have said I would do when his\little sister is born!!!!!!!!.

He has been great about her coming. Well yesterday was a bit cross when I did not let him get inside his old crib, (he weights 20 kg). We have put it by my bed(just in case the snugglenest doesn't work for Lorea)

Thanks for reminding me about the top and tail bowl. I did use the old one a lot and threw it away 4 years ago.

eandz · 17/08/2008 13:34

hi everyone!

i've just met littleconnie and she's really nice .

my husband also called my consultant at his home and spoke with him regarding his pushiness. (so when i got home from coffee with littleconnie) my husband was ready to tell me the compromise they've agreed on.

pretty much if at the next appointment we all feel it's not a good fit anymore the dr will swap patients with another consultant in his practice so we wont lose our deposit and i can still deliver at c&w. the doctor that usually covers for him will take over and dr rafey will just cover one of his elective c-sections with a less fussy patient.

Pidge · 17/08/2008 13:44

WOW, Sassafrass - brilliant news. Many congratulations. Beautiful pictures. And I can heartily recommend life as mum to two girls (I hope life with two girls plus one as yet unknown gender baby is just as much fun for me!!).

notcitrus · 17/08/2008 14:23

Is anyone else finding they have to sleep about 16 hours a day? Don't know how I'd manage if this weren't my first baby...

I must stop reading threads on the Childbirth section - I've been having period-like pains for the last few weeks so looked at one thread, and everyone on it went OMG! You're in labour!!! Er, no. And of course way more people post about bad than good experiences - I'm ordering that Ina May Gaskin book just to counteract it!

Also thinking about ordering a hypnobirthing book - any recommendations?

Unlike most people, I really don't want to give birth for at least another 2-3 weeks (though I bet at that point I really will!) - any tips for NOT going into labour??

eandz - glad a compromise has been arranged - you don't need hassle!

splishsplosh · 17/08/2008 14:32

Ipanemagirl - I understand that exhaustion - I feel really weak, but also sometimes a bit lightheaded, so I don't know if there's some cause.

I had my booking in appointment at Kings yesterday and the mw gave me iron tablets when I mentioned it, although reading the patient info sheet inside, seems you take them before food, but no eggs, fibre / wholemeal food or indigestion remedies within a few hours of taking them. Also says to check re bf if taking..... so as I have been gobbling down the rennies all day and night lately, plus am bf, I'm not sure how helpful it's going to be.

Pidge - your house sounds even more chaotic than mine! Mine's not as bad at the moment as so much stuff is in storage, but that needs to come out next weekend, and b&q want to deliver the kitchen in a week, or make us wait over 4 weeks, so that, with all the appliances will have to fit in somewhere - just hope the re-wiring man speeds up a bit this week and finishes the job. Also need the whole house painted after some plastering... baby needs to stay indoors a few more weeks!

Eandz - sounds like a good compromise - are you happy with that? have you met the other dr before? I hope they didn't say you were being fussy - you sound totally reasonable to me
