x-mas - WOW! Excited but wonder how we will cope. DH has volunteered to cook dinner for a change. we will see ...

This year we have told both in laws that we are not doing the x-mas morning rush around theirs for DS to open pressies. We have said they can of course all come to ours to see DS open his pressies if they want. MIL didn't say much which trust me is weird.

Last year (DS was 18 months) it was all a rush and not very enjoyable to be honest timing getting to both parents. Imagine stacks of presents and the conveyor belt for DS who couldn't stop and enjoy/play with anything for the next present being thrust at him. So we decided to change it to just be at home but now we have the excuse of a new born.

MIL is a nightmare for buying presents for occasions in terms of going over the top and not taking other people's feelings or own choices into account no matter how much DH tells her. Really annoys me and makes the run up to special occasions stressful.

vbab78 · 30/07/2008 23:37

forgot to say ... both in laws live 5 min drive away.

Also ... been laid in bed watching TV with DH and bump has been going mad! Never seen bump do it before or maybe just didn't notice. We also put the baby monitor on and heard the heartbeat. Really strong and fast.

Anyway better shut up and get to bed. Not really helping my exhaustion problems going to bed this late.

ME, ME, ME!

SORRY FOR TRYING TO GET A PAGE TO MYSELF!!!

suiledonn · 31/07/2008 09:06

Morning everyone. I got a much better night's sleep last night as I let dd sleep in with me and evicted dh to the spare room. Unfortunately for dh this seems to be the sleeping arrangement that works best in our house at the moment. I feel sorry for dh having to leave his own bed but I really need to get some sleep and dd is better for it too.

How is everyone this morning? I can't believe you are all planning for Christmas!

Oblomov · 31/07/2008 09:19

No please, lets not start talking about christmas. I can't stand talking about it in the middle of summer.
I only mentioned an outfit. Sorry about that. I take it all back

Suiledonn, I remember that dh 'took himself off to the spare room' alot with ds. But that hasn't happened so much this time. Not sure why.
Lots of people do it, though.

ChocOrange05 · 31/07/2008 09:33

Morning everyone.

I am 26+5 today, does that mean I am officially in my third trimester!?!

Obs I agree - at least no talk of Christmas allowed until the sun goes away! (but you started it )

Vbab I saw bump move yesterday too - I even managed to video it with my phone for DH, it was very cool but also strange!

vbab78 · 31/07/2008 09:42

suiledonn - glad you had a nice night's sleep.

i went to bed too late but DH really annoyed me! Every now and again DH stops up past 1/2am on his PC or PS3. Which keeps me slightly awake until he comes to bed. Then the next day I have to nag him out of bed and he is beyond knackered for days and then gets crabby. Thing is DH was supposed to start prep on a recently plastered room for painting but he said on getting home he was exhausted from work so didnt do it. but then he stops up that late!

SORRY. RANT OVER.

RE DH sleeping in another room ... never done it. Never had a spare bed but even if we did we see our bed as OURS and also don't trust ourselves for DS safety having DS between us overnight. The only time DS is in our bed and for only a short while is on a weekend watching cartoons while he has his milk but we are awake with him. Just our choice.

We have friends who have shared their bed with their children and it has caused probs as a couple but also trying to get the child out of their bed to their own.

barbareebaa · 31/07/2008 09:45

Morning!

Glad you got a better nights sleep Suiledonn. I'm sleeping o.k. at the mo apart from am getting alot of nosebleeds which is pretty annoying!

Thanks for the link Yorky - am going to check that out in a sec!

Hope you all have a good day. Have just had the wasp man round to sort out a nest in the wall (yuck) so hopefully they'll move out now!

suiledonn · 31/07/2008 09:52

Has anyone any good ideas for healthy filling snacks I can eat during the day? My sickness has started to come back in the mornings and I know it is because I am not eating enough. I'm just out of ideas and need something new - preferably protein based as I think that is where I am losing out.

Yesterday I had:
breakfast - tea and wholemeal toast
snack - yoghurt, herbal tea
lunch - homemade pizza with cheese and tomato
snack - apple, mini kit kat
dinner - pork casserole, ate 1 small potato and lots of veg but only a tiny bit of meat
bedtime - small bowl of cereal

vbab78 · 31/07/2008 10:25

suiledonn - sorry can't give you any advice as my eating when I do is terrible.

Suiledonn next time you have a yoghurt or cereal why not add some dried fruit / nuts. You can buy a quite good pack from Tesco called Breakfast topper which has hazelnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries - they are all quite good for you.

Is anyone else eating peanut butter?? I tried to be good for ages and lasted till about 5 months before I succumbed to PB on toast - it was my staple breakfast beforehand and I love it. I have had it about once every two weeks. Am I a terrible mother??

thomasina1 · 31/07/2008 10:55

Hi everyone, apologies for the long absence but I've been on holiday again! This time we were over in the States visiting friends - just trying to get all those holidays in while we can

suiledonn, how about some dried fruit/raisins/nuts - you can get mini bags of these. Or I am drinking loads of milk at the moment, prob get through a couple of pints a day, and it is fairly filling. I am a bit concerned about not eating enough protein too as I have gone off meat and fish really, dh has to be strict with me to make sure I eat it at dinner! So I am thinking that the milk and nuts do help a little! Or how about bananas... somehow more filling than other fruit. Anyway, I don't think your list of food you ate looks too small. Are you gaining much weight?

thomasina1 · 31/07/2008 10:58

Ooh, cheese! I think I'm beginning to develop a craving. I love grilled halloumi at the moment. Often I'll add some cheese to whatever I have in the evening if I don't feel I'm eating enough of the meat.

And chocorange, peanut butter is fine - I think they only discourage peanuts if you have a family history of allergies. Good source of protein so go for it!

ChocOrange05 · 31/07/2008 11:23

Thomasina I had heard mixed things about PB - but DH and I have no history of allergies so I decided it wouldn't be too risky. I have also completely gone off meat and fish, I rarely have them now preferring salads, pasta and vegetables instead - I feel very cheated as I should be enjoying everything without a care and now I don't even want it!!

I can't STOP eating

suiledonn · 31/07/2008 11:35

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to try that Breakfast Topper. Is it with the cereals in the supermarket?
I have mixed feelings about trying peanut butter. I love peanuts but avoided them in this and last pregnancy as dh's family have a history of hayfever, asthma, allergies etc. It didn't help with dd though as she has eczema, asthma and an egg allergy so I was thinking of trying peanuts this time round.
I have just gained back the weight I lost when I was really ill at the start of the pregnancy so I am the same weight now as when I found out I was pregnant. I was overweight to begin with though.
Part of the problem is that dh has been doing the grocery shopping lately and I can't put snacks etc on the list as I never know what I want. I am going to a bigger supermarket today and going to browse around and see what inspires me.

ChocOrange05 · 31/07/2008 11:38

Suiledonn I think its just with the nuts and seeds - in one of those see through plastic bag type containers.

suiledonn · 31/07/2008 11:38

Looking at what I ate yesterday it doesn't seem too bad but it was quite a good day for me. I tend to eat a lot of carbs and vegetables and not enough protein and fruit. I don't eat eggs and tinned tuna is the only fish I like so I am limited. I used to be really good at using beans, lentils etc but I am tired these days and lazy so haven't bothered.

thomasina1 · 31/07/2008 11:46

If you are feeling lazy you could use tinned beans, e.g. baked beans on your toast, chickpeas in salad, etc.

Mmmm, now I really feel like some baked beans on toast!

suiledonn · 31/07/2008 11:51

I think my next trip to the supermarket will be a costly one. I am going to stock up on loads of healthy stuff and try to get back to my soup and hoummous making former ways. Thanks for the inspiration.

ChocOrange05 · 31/07/2008 11:54

Has anyone seen this Rabbits changing mat?? DH and I have bought a dresser with a changing bit at the top and I was looking for changing mats and saw this one which looks quite clever.

Its quite expensive for a changing mat but seems like the harness could be useful. Anyone got one or any recommendations?

ceebee74 · 31/07/2008 12:30

Hi all

Choc - I love the thought of that changing mat but by buying it you will miss out on all the fun that goes with wrestling with a wriggly child that is determined to sit/stand/turnover whilst you try desperately not to get poo everywhere!!

We have no history of allergies etc so I ate peanuts throughout first and this pregnancy - although I seem to have gone off peanut butter at the moment even though peanut butter on toast is usually one of my faves.

Oblomov - you started the Christmas conversation so you can't ban it now

Oblomov · 31/07/2008 12:31

Choc, I love it. It is so sweet.

Please god, no more decorating. I have been down on my hands and knees undercoating the door, new window sills and new skirting boards.

I have alrady packed away all clothes into boxes, stripped wallpaper, supersoaped walls, rubbed down walls in prep of plasterer, 50/50 painted walls, painted walls again.

I have had enough. And we still have glossing and dh needs to build the new fited wardrobes.
hope baby appreciates all of this.
No more decorating. EVER AGAIN. Please god.
