Well, I hope a lot more of us can manage to have our babies in THIS thread, even if we will probably talk our way through it well before the end of the month!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EEC · 23/07/2008 10:37

(same post as on overdue thread - apologies)

Back from mw. Good news - LO has turned again and is no longer OP! Bad news, head completely free so birth not imminent and she could not do a sweep.

She was really nice though and phoned the hospital for me. I am going in today at three to see if they can have a go, and also to discuss induction dates. They suggest Monday (42 weeks), but DH is away then, and I also have no one to look after the children as my mum will be gone by then and MIL can only come for w/e. She told me to turn on the water works and try to get them to book me in for Saturday (40+12). I so hope it doesn't come to that!

Feeling very down again today after no sleep and my mum leaving tomorrow. LO moved all night long (a good thing I guess as it is no longer back to back).

Hoping Pigley has her baby by now!

ponto · 23/07/2008 10:56

Congratulations gilly and hatrick, I'm sure you are as relieved as me to have your little ones out at last!

Just feel the need to tell you all my birth story, trying to get it out of my system I think.

Went in for induction as planned 3pm Sunday, had monitoring and examination (cervix still 2cm dilated and thick, as it had been in clinic the week before), followed by prostin pessary at 6pm, then more monitoring, advised to go for a walk and climb stairs, so climbed 7 flights but no contractions! Dh went home and I was woken up to be re-examined at 12.45am, no change in cervix so had another pessary, told I would be re-examined in the morning and then would have my waters broken.

Terrible night's sleep due to noisy ward, was aware of regular but painless tightenings from about 6.30, by 8am they were starting to become uncomfortable so phoned dh to come in, he arrived 8.45am and I was starting to be in pain. Asked for pain relief at 9am, was examined and was fully effaced and 3cm dilated, but there was no room on the delivery suite for me to go and have gas and air. I told them about my 2 hour labour last time and they said they would find some gas and air for me to have on the ward.

I am rubbish with pain and found it really hard to breathe through contractions, but tried hard as I was very aware of the other 7 women on the ward listening to me. Then it turned out they couldn't find any gas and air, there was still no room on delivery suite and at 10am I had an urge to push, the midwife came to examine me, my waters broke, a doctor doing a ward round put her head round the curtain and said 'this woman needs to go to labour ward!', the mw then managed to examine me and said I was fully dilated and the head was coming, everyone shouted at me not to push but I couldn't help it and Bryony arrived at 10.11am.

I still can't believe I wasn't given any pain relief at all, and that they let me deliver on the antenatal ward with no privacy, I was very shell-shocked afterwards. I eventually was taken to the delivery suite because I needed stitching for a 2nd degree tear (hardly surprising as I delivered a 10lb 8 oz baby in an hour and a half!) and got the gas and air at last!

So kind of a successful induction story - I had a normal delivery with only the prostin pessaries, no need for a drip, but I am quite with the hospital for not having any pain relief available on the ante-natal ward, although they are regularly trying (and succeeding) to get women to go into labour there. My community mw was when she heard and is going to raise the issue with the managers.

Sorry for long post, wanted to tell the story and see whether you agree that the situation was not managed well. Of course it was all worth it in the end and Bryony is gorgeous (though she has a truly ferocious suck!!)

sweetkitty · 23/07/2008 11:37

ponto - that is truly shocking no pain relief poor you I am so noisy in labour they would have found me a bed to save everyone elses ears. What a great weight Bryony was too, I had a second degree tear too due to Bethany shooting out at the end didn't have stitches MW said it was nice and clean, been ouch though. Ypu forget how strong their sucks are too

EEC - wouldn't get too worried about the head position some of them stay free until the time comes

disney - glad Sam is doing well he looks adorable btw, don't know how you do it with your DH away so much, you truly are a supermum! On the Phil and Teds would totally recommend them, I've had side by sie and a tandem and wish I had got a P&T all along. We have the Fisherprice swing too DD2 loved it must clean it up for B.

squarah - good luck to you too, don't know if anyone managed their due date

butterfly - DD2 has an unusual name, MIL didn't like it at first but thats a plus point she now says she has grown into it, I love her name, it's such a personal thing names ignore what anyone else says.

Got B registered this morning, works slightly different up here so shes all official now.

I so know what everyone means about living in a bubble of love with just your other half and DC.

min912 · 23/07/2008 12:08

Not only is that bad for you Ponto but not great for everyone else on the ward!! Does seem ridiculously short-sighted. But ultimately big congratulations! In spite of all that, you did it! (And by the way, I was nearly called Bryony!)

Cheers for the link Minkus, that does help. With DS hindwaters broke then I had period pains that became contractions quite quickly, so this 'a couple of hours every other night and then nothing' type of achey pain is an unknown quantity to me!

Friend's wedding is tomorrow so although I am desperate to meet this baby it would now be best if it held off until Friday!

mummy2bsoon · 23/07/2008 12:32

congrats!! and WOW!!!

bebejones · 23/07/2008 13:16

Wow Ponto...what a story! Can't believe hospital left you in the antenatal ward!! But well done you none the less!

Been to MW this morning, a different one to usual as mine is on holiday in Egypt (alright for some!!) But MW I saw was lovely, said LO is 4/5 engaged, has flipped back round the right way, and has a very healthy heartbeat. Measure 39cm (am 38+6 today) so it's just a question of waiting now! Can't believe I am actually due next week! DH thinks she may well arrive on her due date, I am one of those rare 5% that turned up on EDD so you never know, my mum was in labour for 40 hours though...that does not appeal! Although some things never change as I always set off now with plenty of time to get to my destination!!!

Keep thinking about Pigley, hope she is ok and a mummy now! Hope induction was ok for her! Fingers crossed we will have a little Piglet soon!

disneystar · 23/07/2008 17:40

this thread is def gettin quieter as we have had babies and just so busy i guess

me to bebe thinkin about pigley

not long for you to either now then

babies turn up just whenever they like they have the final say so always be prepared i reckon

disneystar · 23/07/2008 17:43

also bebe what ponto described at her birth story thats similar to what happened in glos
royal although i did make it to delivery ward but the care was the same very bad indeed
are you still going to start in stroud and get moved if you have to ?

CilC · 23/07/2008 17:50

Wow Ponto your LO was a good size but sorry about the birth experience. I spent one night in a post natal holding room (waiting for a bed in special unit)and there was a woman going through labour in there...I felt awful for her and the sounds!!! OMG to be listening felt very intrusive but also frightening...I was not sure what to do and felt very uncomfortable... I am sure Rafferty will be requiring therapy one day!
They kept apologising to us but in indsight should have been apologising to her.

Rafferty is doing well and his blood levels are improving. Has anyone else had a blood incompatibility with their LO before? I am O+ and Raff is B+ and antibodies from my blood that he aquired while in my womb were destroying some of his blood cells. If anyone else has experienced this I am just wondering how long they require monitoring?

Kaz1967 · 23/07/2008 18:43

disneystar yep deffo busy and tired (although she sleeps well at night really) this breastfeeding lark is exhausting. So tired tonight got flashing lights infront of eyes so giving up reading and going for a lie down

God help me but this woman who bought practically nothing before Kez was born has gone mental in the sales and now has a room full of pink stuff she does look cute in it though even if I do say so myself :D

EEC · 23/07/2008 19:34

Back from hospital where had stretch and sweep and had mildly painful contractions every five mins for 2 1/2 hours afterwards. Just started to let myself get excited and now they have fizzled out. Want to scream with frustration. Am booked in now for induction on Saturday. I'm very nervous about it now after all the spiel they give you about increased risks of c section etc. All very negative I thought. Please please come naturally LO!

Nice to hear about little Rafferty and Kez.

Yokefleet · 23/07/2008 20:02

PONTO - Sorry to crash the thread but just wanted to say a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS ON THE BIRTH OF BRYONY from the October 05 board!

bebejones · 23/07/2008 20:13

Disney, providing all is well, am intending to go to Stroud to start with. MW doesn't seem to think it'll be a problem for me to go there. That is of course providing LO turns up of her own accord! Dreading having to be induced and start off in Glos, just hate the idea of being 'limited' with where I can go and how I can give birth if that happens! But what will be will be, and I guess as long as I have my baby at the end of it it doesn't matter how I get her here!

Thought I was having contractions earlier and rang DH in a panic! Had low period type pains which spread upwards and top of bump went very tight and painful. Went and had a lie down, and it all went away!! BH maybe?! Just want LO to hang on til my mum gets here, but desperately want her out now....so torn between the two if that makes sense?!

RUMPEL · 23/07/2008 21:10

Hi All,

Sorry not posted for a while - so busy and soooo tired!

Sorry for all you laides still in the waiting room - sending you popping vibes.

CONGRATS to all who have had bubbas now - too many to remember with my foggy brain.

DD has chickenpox and has been poorly and Calvin wants to feed all night long - bleary eyed emoticon! I am bf and ff - much to some of the MW consternation but it works for us. I am hoping the bf might provide him some protection form the chickenpox - anyone got any experience of chickenpox in LO so young?

BIRTH STORY - contraction all day Monday - varied. Went to bed early and up at 3am as they were worse. Eventually went to hospital at 9am - 2cm sent home. Had glass of red and 2 paracetamol - made me sleepy! Back in at 2pm - spent ages in triage as the albour ward too busy. managed just with tens.

Down to delivery as progressed to 5cm. Eventually had G + A- managed t eat and drink this time (was too sick with DD). Examinbed and 8 cms - they decided to break waters, asked for diamorphine - they gave with anti-emetic as was really sick with it last time. Up on bed on knees leaning over back of bed - quite noisy by this point . Not sure how long it took - was off my face on the diamorphine felt his head come out and hang there then his body came with next push. They put him thorugh my legs so I could see him. He came out with his hand at his face so gave me 2nd degree tear.

Placenta would not come out (same thing happened with DD) and I was all chuffed to have managed without an epidural and they were going to have to spinal block me and take me to theatre after all that!!! Anway registrar decided to try a procedure he had onbly done twice before - injected the cord with saline and syntocinon. They tried to remove it and I had a huge bleed - all got a bit scary as I was losing consciousness and they kept rubbing my tumm to try to stop the bleeding - it was soo painful - like being in labur again! Anway after the third attempt the registrar came and managed to pull it out - then I got stitched up. Was knackered at this point - 2am so Dh went home and I slept (in the bloody mess) for a while. Then at 5.30am I got a bed bath and sent up to maternity ward. Hospital was so busy they have to take over part of gyny ward!!! So many July babies.

Anyway I am now really aneamic so hence I have not posted as been too busy and tired. Calvin is a colicky baby and pukes a lot - so loads of washing!!

I hope you ladies still waiting go soon and have great deliveries sending love to allxxxx

sweetkitty · 23/07/2008 21:32

Rumpel - ouch what a story, I had a hard time delivering the placenta with DD1 and a second degree tear due to hand by face so kind of know how you feel. This being aneamic kind of knocks you for six. Your poor DD as well. You sound like you are having a rough time of it. No experience of chicken pox in a baby so young but I thought they would have your immunity as a newborn don't quote me though. So hope you are feeling better soon.

bebejones - glad everything looks well with you, you poor thing having to wait until the end of July when everyone else seems to have popped, she will be worth the wait though.

EEC - sending you some labour vibes

pigley - am thinking of you

Hope everyone else is doing OK too

Kaz1967 · 24/07/2008 00:16

RUMPEL LO should get protection from chickenpox from your milk but I suggest you contact your GP first thing tomorrow (incubation is 14-21 days I think). There was the odd occasions when we gave out tinies a vaccine for chickenpox when they cam into contact, the one I am thinking about was extremely high risk, very preterm, leading to chronic lung problems meaning she was oxygen dependant and was no longer on breast milk. Your little one is so much stronger and probably has no need (It is a horrid vaccine she had to have it is both bum cheeks not something they want to give unless absolutely needed)

Peanut73 · 24/07/2008 09:04

Hmmmm, where is everyone this morning? Is everyone prepared for a hot day?

catec · 24/07/2008 09:34

disneystar · 24/07/2008 09:53

anyone else had this please

gillythekid · 24/07/2008 09:55

Thanks guys. Difficult few days. Migraine kicked in 24 hours post birth so may have blocked colostrum production but did start to produce some yesterday. In the meantime, DS became very distressed at the breast as there was nothing for him (as my instinct was telling me!) but La leche phone advice said to persevere as they were sure he was getting something. Anyway, cut along story short, caved in on Wed at 1am and gave him a small cup of organic formula, which he wolfed down and some more 4 hours later. Midwife came yesterday, DS is dehydrated with jaundice and been advised to top up with formula till milk is established as colostrum isn't enough to hydrate him, especially as he is not latching and VERY sleepy.
I still have a cracking migraine and am having a cranio treatment tonight so haven't read any posts. Needless to say, I'm in love with baby Nate despite my exhaustion. Hope all the overduers have delivered or are near, all new mummy's are doing well and all still pregnant are coping with the heat! Love to you all, I'll catch up when the migraine goes.

Peanut73 · 24/07/2008 10:17

disney - i am typing this with my left hand while i feed c so v slow will type more soon.

please don't get desperate - these feeligs are based on your hormones and will pass. pls talk to us on here - we will help u get thru it. i am sending u big cuddles from c and i.

(((((((disney))))))))

Squarah · 24/07/2008 10:35

Oh disneystar big big supportive hugs and cuddles and you are not at all on your own - hormones/tiredness/ difficult pre-existing situation all lead to these feelings. It's so important to tell people how you feel - it's not a personality failing, it's just your body making you feel like this - the worst thing to do is shut yourself off. At the very least you can have a good cry on someone who won't judge you - you've coped with so much.

You won't get sectioned for saying things like that but you do need to ask for help when you recognise these signs to help stop it getting worse (FYI am a medic) and so you can get the support you and your family need. Please don't suffer on your own if it's getting worse -you'll get through this. I'm sending lots of good thoughts your way.

mummy2bsoon · 24/07/2008 10:51

(( hugs))

like what the rest said, follow there advice, and we are all here for u...

ponto · 24/07/2008 11:53

Disneystar, sorry to hear you're feeling so awful, I think you must tell someone, I am sure they won't section you. Midwives and doctors have heard it all before, just because you are having awful thoughts doesn't mean you are going to act on them and there is support available if you can bring yourself to ask. You have a lot on your plate with the dcs having health problems, you are not a failure, you're doing really well. Please get help because you deserve it.
