Hello there all. I have not posted for a long time but i have not gone away. If you remember (??) I was in conversationwith Mrs Wednesday about some early bleeding she had and I said I had had 5 mcs plus one baby and was really scared and was therefore lurking (just like Cornflakegirl). Well I stayed lurking andd goodness me but don't you all talk a lot! It has been great following the conversations. I had my 20 week scan yesterday and all was well. they could not tell the sex . Question: if they cannot tell the sex does that make it more likely that it is a girl?

charleypops · 02/02/2005 19:41

Welcome back Jezebel and

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I can't imagine how worrying the last few months must have been for you

Can't help you on your scan q though - it must be so frustrating. I can't wait to find out the sex of mine on Friday

OP posts:
Uwila · 02/02/2005 19:51

Hiya Jez,
Glad all is well. I have been wondering how you were.

I would say if they weren't sure and could see her/his private area, then the chances are greater for girl. But if legs were crossed and they couldn't see at all, than either is fair game. This probably isn't very helpful... sorry.

Must go fetch toddler.... ta ta.

bubbaloo · 02/02/2005 19:57

good to see you back jezebel and glad everythings going well
i think i'd probably agree with you as if it was a boy then surely they'd see something but then again,im only guessing as i've no idea on that subject
we've got our scan on tuesday and are really hoping to find out the sex so i hope i wont be too disappointed

Uwila · 02/02/2005 20:18

We are finalising plans for the second London Meet. Can anyone who is interested in coming please have a look at the thread and let me knowif you are coming (so I can make reservations).

And if any lurkers didn't come last time but would like to come meet up with a bunch of other fatties (apart from Charley who is still a stick), please please please feel free to join in.

london meet 2, April 02 at 1:00

Uwila · 02/02/2005 20:19

Sorry, that instruction wasn't very clear, please note if you are coming ON the meet up thread (link in my previous post).

Thank you

MrsWednesday · 02/02/2005 20:44

Jezebel! So good to see you back again and to know that everything is ok. Fantastic news. I've thought about you a lot and wondered how things were going. Really, really pleased you are here.

So now you're past 20 weeks, hopefully you'll de-lurk and join the chat. It's a full time job keeping up with everyone on here. I'd agree with Uwila about the scan - was going to same the same thing. Did it have legs crossed?

Bubbaloo, you have been busy! I'm starting maternity leave in May I think - I need to talk to people at work and get a finishing date so that I can start counting down the days.

JonahB, I'm still thinking of weird things that DH does. He hasn't done anything more annoying than not hanging up his suit jacket tonight so I have resisted the urge to kick him. I laughed out loud at your 'disappearing human' clothes pile - very familiar here too.

Welshie, hope all goes well with your check-up.

Jezebel · 02/02/2005 22:05

Thank you for your welcome back. Feels a bit like the wanderer returns. I have been on these threads for so long I get to see people get pg after mc and then see the birth announcements. I have not forgotten Sweetheart or Sophmum and I wish them both all that they hope for in the months ahead.

PinkArjuna · 02/02/2005 23:13

welcome back Jezebel

Uki · 03/02/2005 01:19

Hi Everyone
I found you all and had 163 messages to read. Yesterday I went back to work after 7 weeks summer holidays, it was actually nice to be back everyone patting my tummy and commenting about the size of my breasts. I had to tell everyone that my breasts are not topics of conversation. It's embarrasing!!! I am in Sydney in Oz about 10 hours in front(I think). Anyway I really enjoy reading this thread everyone is so chatty.
Baby will be 1/4 English as dh's mum is British.
Also every year at Christmas all our English family arrives -Uncle, cousins boyfriends, husbands, etc and we have alot of fun sightseeing and celebrating with them all. So have loads of English contact.
Bye for now
Uki

Uki · 03/02/2005 01:34

Hi Forgot to say
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY WISHES to Lipstick. Hope you had a good one.
Also very intetrested in all the nappy debate> i liked mcMudda's points, I want to use real nappies, but didn't realize there are so many types now-What are those hemp shapped thingys??? they sell on ebay second hand for a ridiculous price! anyway what is the best brand of real ones.

Scraggyaggy · 03/02/2005 08:17

Charley / Pink ? My DP got it into his head that we should ?economize? and just use a travel cot. In reality I think it is a false economy as travel things are usually designed for occasional use and I?m sure daily use would knacker it out really quickly. Added to that, if you feel the base, they cannot be half as comfortable as a proper cot ? bit like sleeping on a fold-out sofabed instead of a proper one I think.

Lippy ? I must admit that I get annoyed at DP for the absolute opposite. DP does all my washing, but doesn?t understand the concept of a delicate wash! Grrr

Uwila ? Controversial I know, but my mother actually disagrees with maternity leave / rights etc. She says it is unfair to those people who don?t have children. And that other workers don?t get the opportunity to take 6 months off and then walk back into their old jobs at the same rate of pay. I can see her point, but it does make me very upset. She is slightly tainted though as she is a civil servant and they have stupid rules that allow people to really take the mick. (BTW, I can?t do early posts on my London days, as it takes me 3 hours to catch up from the day before!!!)

Welshmum ? Hope your check up goes well today, AND the hairdressers! X

Charley ? Have you got your scan tomorrow?

Jeze ? Glad all is well for you and baby and so pleased to have you back! I think it could just mean that your sonographer didn?t want to tell you?.

Uki ? I know what you mean about the patting. I am an arch-patter and now feel really guilty as it is just so annoying when people you don?t know feel inclined to fondle your belly!! I got off the train the other morning and bumped (literally) into a friend who immediately started patting my tum! I felt like I should roll over and beg!!

Hope everyone has a good day today. I?m off to college today and am v excited. Although will probably be sick of it by going-home time! x

Jezebel · 03/02/2005 08:22

Hi all. Mrs Wednesday, I don't know whether the legs were crossed or not. She said 'since I can't eb sure I would rather not say'. Could mean anything I suppose. Anyhow I already have a gorl and would be thrilled with anothr. Equally a boy would be a new experience and I would be just as thrilled. I think I am an instant gratification junkie just wanting to know asap. BTW are you all at work whilst you opst? I work 3 days a week but cannot access internet there. When i am at home I am normally too busy to get on the net and can only do so when dd is in bed in the evening whcih means I have loads of posts to read and have not participated all day. How do you ladies do it? You are a great crew. And I promise you I am not weird lurking so much. It is just that I ahve had to leave threads before and have not enjoyed it.

Uwila · 03/02/2005 09:10

Jez,
You'll find that people on this thread are much better behaved than on some others. I think it's because we've actually gotten to know each other, whereas when you don't know the people you are typing to it's very easy to hide behind that mask of your computer screen and just shoot your mouth off. Or maybe it's just because we are all such wonderful people!

JonahB · 03/02/2005 09:18

Hi there Jez!! So glad you could join us. And no, I dont think your strange for lurking. I did exactly the same for the first 14 weeks of my pgy, due to a previous m/c. Really pleased you feel confident enough to join us now.

Welshmum, best of luck for today!!!

Tessiebear · 03/02/2005 09:45

Morning all!
Havnt been on for a few days as i have had a really stressful time.
Our DS's go to a private school which has been financially crippling us and we decided this weekend that enough is enough and we have managed to get them a place at our local village school - i know it is a good thing in the long run etc etc but at the moment i feel like the meanest shittiest mum for making them leave their friends, a schoold they are settled at etc... cant type any more i am gonna cry

tribpot · 03/02/2005 10:14

Tessie - I had to move schools when I was 13, nothing to do with private v state, just my step-dad's job meaning a move to the next county. It was quite hard at first, but your kids will soon get used to it. Don't worry!

This is my farewell til Sunday as we are off to Amsterdam for a couple of days, so have fun one and all. I reach the 20 week mark tomorrow - half way through - GARGH!

MrsWednesday · 03/02/2005 10:32

Hugs Tessiebear, it must be really hard for you (probably harder for you than it will be for them). They will adapt quickly won't they? Kids are resilient and resourceful with fairly short memories at their age.

And the other thing is, they'll be better off with less stressed mummy and daddy at home.

Tribpot, have a lovely time in Amsterdam.

Jezebel, I post mainly from work (I do four days, Monday to Thursday) and if DS has a sleep during the day I can pop on for a bit at the weekend. Otherwise it's evenings for me too. Not sure where you are in the country but there are a couple of meet-ups happening - the Northern lot are meeting up on 27th Feb and the Southern jessies () are meeting up some time in April - the threads are on the antenatal clubs bit somewhere so if you fancy joining one or the other stick your name down. Same for you Cornflakegirl. And Uki if you fancy a bit of a round-the-world trip!

I'll be off soon myself - going to stay in a cottage with friends for the weekend. There's four families going, all of us have one boy each (2 2 year olds, 1 one-year old and one 6 month old) so it's not going to be much of a rest but should be a laugh at the very least.

Good luck to those with scans and appointments coming up today and tomorrow.

mcmudda · 03/02/2005 10:43

Hi Jezebel - I'm rarely on this thread 2 days in a row (apart from today) coz my dial up connection is so pants!

Can't remember who asked about hemp nappies (Uki?). Never used them myself, but they're meant to be mega absorbant, but still really slim fitting - plus they're more eco friendly because hemp isn't as intensively farmed as cotton.

Charley - the nappies I use are terry but very fluffy and comfy. They're shaped and elasticated to look like a conventional disposable, but seem to have more elastcation all around the waist and legs - probably stronger cos it's meant to withstand lots of use. I guess for the same reason that we use dishes and not paper plates for eating

If anybody is curious then have a look/read of either \link{http://www.thenappylady.co.uk/The Nappy Lady's site}, Twinkleontheweb or Kittykins (my favourite). They're completely impartial and review pretty much every kind of washable nappy under the sun ( and there are loads!)

Think of all the money you could spend on other lovely things for baby instead of lining the pockets of Mr Huggies

LipstickMum · 03/02/2005 10:55

Don't have time to post, just wanted to mention to McMudda that I love your dedication to washable nappies

Lua · 03/02/2005 11:41

Morning all,
I had the sniffles the whole night and am dreading that a cold is coming my way.... I hate being a mum and being sick at the same time!

In regard to cloth nappies I just tought I would add for those that are curious about it, that you don't need to take cloth nappies as a religion, IYKWIM. I use them mostly because they are cheaper and I found it easier! really! I never soaked them, or did anything special. The only difference is that instead of collecting in the trash bin, you collect them in the wash bin, and instead of putting the trash out, you put them in the wash machine. No big deal. Is worth a try. If you don't like it for any reason you can always resell it on ebay!

Scraggyaggy · 03/02/2005 13:17

Trib ? Have a good time in Amsterdam! Now, remember, no drinking, smoking?. etc etc

MrsW ? Southern jessies indeed!! Cheeky!

Lua ? Sorry to hear you are coming down with a cold. Horrible time of year to have one.

I am having such a fab time at college today ? don?t want to go to work tomorrow now!
