Sadly, Uwila we only ever go to a couple of places within walking (staggering) distance - usually The Shanti, where we have become a bit too familiar with the staff , so I don't know about any other places. I shall ask around though about the one in E Moseley - you've got to find a local curry place for Friday nights. Its the law!

Evening all! Just come to after spending the entire afternoon asleep - I think the baby must be putting on a final spurt of growth for the scan on Tuesday.

Dh has amused himself making flapjack, cooking rice for tomorrow's rice salad and doing a spot of hoovering, excellent.

Time to go and lie on the sofa I think ... am I not meant to be bounding with energy in this trimester?!

charleypops · 06/02/2005 18:41

I'm very intrigued with this seed business! Where can I find out about it?

Phal Just click on the question mark next to "what is the hottest curry?"

Trib - don't worry, (please, so I don't have to!) The sofa and I have been very intimate companions for the past couple of days too. I have energetic days every now and then, but I'm lucky enough to indulge in any pg weariness. So I do. Baby is growing very fast, all that energy's got to come from somewhere (ie us)

charley, try your local holland and barrett health shop as i find them really helpful.
you could also google and im sure you'll find some useful info on linseeds/flaxseeds

charleypops · 06/02/2005 19:04

Would you recommend it for constipation personally?

OP posts:
bubbaloo · 06/02/2005 19:10

well,i personally havent tried them as i suffer with a whole host of things including IBS but apparently so i've been told they will certainly get you moving
like i mentioned yesterday ive even stopped taking my iron tablets as they were upsetting my tummy which is bloody typical-they seem to give everyone else constipation but not me-LOL!!!
ive also got some lactulose from the doc but after taking that for even one day i couldnt keep off the loo so for me its better to be constipated than the other

LipstickMum · 06/02/2005 19:37

I had no idea about seeds and their effect on 'digestion' either!! I haven't been too bad lately, I'm not an every day girl anyway and have been stuffing myself with plums these last few weeks which has helped. I did try Fybogel in my 1st pg but it was crap imo and then got some lactulose which worked a treat

I'd never heard of a phal curry. I'm not big on hot curries last time I tried a Vindaloo was when we were trying to get dd out!!

PinkArjuna · 06/02/2005 20:21

I find they have helped a bit. Though I haven't quite eaten the recommended amount yet. I sort of put them in with my sunflower, Pumpkin, and pine kernals. They aren't too bad. I didn't get the ground ones as they didn't have them. They were sworn to me on the pregnancy board by another mum. Though I expect ground is better as you can add it to things without it being so bitty (I imagine)

Yeah That gel crap is a waste of time. They used to give it to all the laxative junkies on the anorexic ward. Lactulose is helpful but it tastes soooo bad. Probably my own fault really. I have been the constipated type since I gave up laxatives a few years ago. Don't think my bowels will ever recover Though I never gave child birth a thought back in those days. So I think I better quit moaning about my arse as I did effectively shoot myself in the foot

PinkArjuna · 06/02/2005 20:28

Incidentally I have just bankrupted myself on a pair of MBT anti cellulite trainers Aparently they are really good for posture and help the joints and I am getting desperate about the whole back thing. Not to mention I have been wallowing in bed - this baby is drianing me completely.

Lua · 06/02/2005 21:18

Evening all, Had a busy weekend without having a chance to come here , and phewww, it took me a while to try to catch up...

Bubaloo, i spent part of my busy weekend on ikea! Don't go there!!! Boy is it always a trap. This time I came in with a strict list so I wouldn't get side tracked. Went through the whole market place in about an hour and tough twould finally scape. But then DH said, let's peak at the beds... 3 hours later I manage to get out of there!

About linseeds... They are also well know for their goos service to your heart! It's good stuff, but my friends swear than you can basically not digest them if it is not crushed. Some health stores, sell crushers just for them so though they are. I imagine the laxative effects are also reduced in whole seeds...

Lippy, you got me curious... did you have this overwhelming instant love for your DD when she was born? I was overwhelmed for sure! But the first thing I said when I touch her was : -Who is this purple octopus!?
I adore her from the begining for what I thought she represented IYKWIM... but it took me a couple of months to really bond with her, and be able to say: - yes, you are my beloved daughter...
FWIW I am really glad I know DS is coming along, because I could only see me with another DD. So I think it would have made the bond even harder....

LipstickMum · 06/02/2005 21:19

It's ok to have the odd nap Pink, essential even. I had a nice snooze on the sofa today for over an hour. So, those trainers?? They stop cellulite ?? Any anti stretch mark trainers?! I think I am going to bankrupt myself on a pair of designer maternity jeans this week, so I wouldn't worry too much In fact I blew my budget on our last meet up in London, have been on the breadline ever since!

LipstickMum · 06/02/2005 21:25

Hi Lua, interesting about this Linseed talk. My MIL makes her own muesli and puts linseeds on it, when I eat it they basically go right through unchanged. You must be able to get linseed oil? I bet it's expensive though..?

Did I give the impression that I loved my dd as soon as she popped out? Obviously I give that impression now, because I do. I do remember the birth being absolutely fantastic, I thought it would be all 'Friends-y' and we'd both be crying, but in fact neither of us could stop laughing with happiness and relief, I just couldn't believe it. I think it probably did take a while for her to gain her own identity, really grow into her name etc. but the feelings were always there.

bubbaloo · 06/02/2005 21:49

Lua,thanks for the ikea advice but i do really enjoy going there.our nearest one is at lakeside which is about 40 mins away so we dont go very often much to my dh's delight, but when we do go i can easily spend 3 or 4 hours there also
actually we might not go this weekend as we should make a start on stripping the wallpaper in the nursery and pulling the carpet up-not much point in getting a wardrobe if it hasnt got a finished room to go in

Lua · 06/02/2005 23:01

Lippy, didn't mean to put you in the spot, sorry if I did
I was just really curious... I always hear people in MN and other boards saying that the emotions of birth may overcome any disapointment... and I just wondered if people really feel that way.
I expected I would be, like in the movies, in motherhood bliss! But I was actually quite resentful about this little thing that took over my life IYKWIM...
I had a very easy birth, but I always felt very guilty that I wasn't immediatly overcome with love. I think the fact I expected that, plus the fact everybody else seem to expect I should feel this way made the first few months quite hard!
Anyway... I think I'll be much better prepared this time to take it all in stride!

Lua · 06/02/2005 23:02

P.S. and now, of course, I do adore DD and am quite happy to have my life overrun by her!!!

charleypops · 06/02/2005 23:54

Right, I'm off to the docs to get some Lactulose! I'm sick of being bunged up I've not "been" satisfactorily since conception (sorry if tmi) so I'll probably get seeds too - I like them anyway. I'm sure you can get linseed oil - cricketers rub it into their bats don't they?

Poor you Bubbaloo having IBS. I suppose the one good thing about that is that you have to consider what you eat carefully so probably don't eat as much crap. I was told I had IBS once - turned out I had dysentry actually, not very nice. Student at the time. Are you anaemic?

Pink - those trainers look interesting - let us know if they work!

Lua - LOL "purple octopus!!" Did you have many drugs? that's up there with Tea's ds's blue dinosaur!! I used to be seriously addicted to ebay - I did actually manage to make some money too, but now I'm addicted to MN and not making any money at all! Ebay has been winking at me lately though - mainly because I'm looking for a junior bed thingy for our dog so he can sleep next to us rather than with us on our bed (he's getting a little bit uncomfortable for me)

OP posts:
Uwila · 07/02/2005 08:35

Charley, your dog sleeps in your bed? Not to scare you, but that sounds like a recipe for sybling rivalry when bub comes along. Are you going to let them both sleep in your room?

LipstickMum · 07/02/2005 09:13

Yeah Charley, I had a feeling linseed oil was what cricketers used, my Dad plays and I can still remember the smell. I may have a look in the health food shop some time this week.

Lua, you didn't put me on the spot at all. I know feelings about a newborn immediatley after birth can vary immensely. I think I was very lucky that I had very strong feelings towards dd - and not just the basic nurturing ones, food, shelter etc. That's what i was trying to explain.

But you're also right about whether those birth emtions will be strong enough to overcome any disappointment. That's what my dilema has been re finding out the sex this time round, I have been hoping my emotions will overcome any possible disappointment on the baby's sex purely based on my experience last time. But there are no guarantees.

Lua · 07/02/2005 09:48

Charley, I actually have no drugs whatsoever! Maybe that was my problem!! But, no kidding, all I could see of her is her ginormous blue/purplish hands. DH and I still koke that she was an octopus....
MY DD looks very different from me, she is blond and blue eyed and looks a lot like her dad did when he was a kid, but you couldn't tell bythe way he looks now.... Nobody in my close family is this fair, so that must have contributed for the longer time to see her as my relation if this makes any sense...
But, I'm sure DS will be dark skinned with lots of brown hair!!!! yeah, right....

Lua · 07/02/2005 09:49

Gosh, I wish I could type and know my grammar...
make that "was her ginormous hands",
and "DH and I stil JOKE..."

I clearly need to go get some coffee!

teabelly · 07/02/2005 10:01

Morning all,

Glad you had a fab time in Amsterdam Trib...didn't you bring any cakes back for us?!

Mrs W how was your weekend? I don't suppose you had any of those coffee shops where you went...?

Had a very good weekend in all, and raring to go this morning...pity the trains weren't!! I'm sure the two cancelled trains at peak time had more to do with drivers not getting up in time combined with monday morning blues than 'defective' trains!!

Having suffered IBS most of my adult life I'm finding pregnancy is having the opposite effect on me to that of most peeps on here so I'm afraid I can't offer any further words of wisdom to get you moving except what others have said...fybogel doesn't work, lactulose works well and nothing beats a hot spicy curry/chilli oh except mabe an orgasm...but as some of you are apparently still out looking for a lost sex drive (per previous posts!) that's not much help either

On that note I guess I'd better slink off and do some work...catch you all later x

welshmum · 07/02/2005 10:05

When dd was lifted out she looked like a purple starfish - little arms and legs outstretched and yelling at the top of her voice. I fell head over heels with her from that moment - and the photos of us together really show that. The worst thing for our relationship was her going back to hospital at 5 days old, I felt like my heart had been removed, it took ages to build the bond back up after that.
That's my secret worry - that it'll happen again.

teabelly · 07/02/2005 10:13

Oh Welshie ...what happened with your dd then??

LipstickMum · 07/02/2005 10:15

Hey Welshie, seems like ages since I saw your name on here, but we are prolific posters on this thread, so it could only have been a matter of days. Why did your dd have to go back into hospital, I remember you saying she needed special care (non-sterilising bottles conversation). I expect that was really emotionally disruptive and not part of the plan. Fingers crossed you next ds/d will be home safe and sound after the birth.

My dd wasn't purple at all??! I remember her having lots of 20's style kiss curls on her head, a la Tallulah Bankhead. I think she was a kind of browny colour, but not very.

Teabelly, are you saying having an orgasm makes you go?? This is great news!!! I'm sure my dp wil be happy to help me out, whether clinical trials support your theory or not

I think I overdid it this morning dancing with dd to 'deeply dippy' on the radio
