Dear all

I'm off now for the weekend, but I will be thinking of you, Minster, and hope today was alright.

rowergirl · 18/07/2008 20:51

Minster, just read your post and want to send cyber hugs and prayers to you and your DH (and apologies for such a flippant post immediately before yours). I hope the next few days and weeks become more bearable.

Litterbug · 19/07/2008 19:09

hiya

After my scan today found out Im having a GIRL after 2 boys!!

Hope everyone is well xx

chutneymary · 19/07/2008 19:25

Hello everyone, i've been away for a week in Dorset eating ice cream and chips. It's been lovely.

Off to catch up on the news now. Hope everyone is well.

artichokes · 20/07/2008 10:34

Congratulations Litterbug - I love having a little girl .

Welcome back Chutney - I hope you had a lovely time and that it did not rain too much.

Well I am sitting under a blanket on the sofa under a blanket. DH has taken DD swimming but I felt too nauseated to join them, I don't know if it is a throw back to morning sickness or if I ate something dodgy at yesterday's BBQ.

Yesterday DH decided to share all our potential names with his extended family and the whole afternoon was taken up with everyone roaring with laughter and asking if we were joking . Acutally it was a lovely day but we are def back to quare one with girls' names.

daisydora · 20/07/2008 10:47

Hello all (I was CC21 but got bored and have now changed my name).

artichokes hope your feeling better soon. Haven't a clue what we are going to call this baby, DH and I agree on nothing. He tends to respond to every name I say with "what will my mum think of that" - tbh I don't care what anyone thinks, if you both like a name than go with it I say.

congrats litterbug I love little girls clothes somehow so much cutter to me!!

EffiePerine · 20/07/2008 11:35

Artichokes: never tell! Anyway, I think you should go for Dorothea which IMO is due a comeback I have any number of girls' names that DH vetoed, so if you need more ideas let me know...

EffiePerine · 20/07/2008 11:36

Daisy: it took us ages to agree on one boy's name, and even that was a struggle. If all else fails, you can pull the 'I gave birth, I'm calling him/her X' card after the birth

DonnyLass · 20/07/2008 11:42

gawd am 21 weeks and been in mat clothes since about 9 weeks (2nd) ... i'm not a lardass just this preg cant bear anything remotely tight around bump

deffo bump out sooner 2nd time round

artichokes · 20/07/2008 11:43

Ooooh yes, give me ideas Effie. The family said Kitty is a pornstar's name, Sophia only works if we are mediterranian and Dorothea was apparantly so funny that they could not stop laughing long enough to explain the problem...

EffiePerine · 20/07/2008 11:55

Sophia is a lovely name - I know a Sophia Kate who is English so ner

Some of my likes (feel free to snigger)

Abigail
Beatrice
Clara
Elizabeth
Frances
Heloise (can't do accents)
Harriet
Hannah
Helen
Jane
Joy
Kathleen
Mary
Verity
Viola

EffiePerine · 20/07/2008 11:56

and a potential DD's name is in there but I'm not telling which!

DonnyLass · 20/07/2008 12:02

artichokes

family esp are SO rude about names .. we got ridicule over dd1 (delilah ... now everyone likes it) and same happening again with new preg .... infact currently on another thread asking if duffy darcy is too pornstar

i got fed up of the looks of disdain or sniggers

sod em ... go for what makes you happy

rosmerta · 20/07/2008 12:35

effie, some really nice girls names in your list! We've got a girl's name chosen but are struggling again with a boy's. So far dh's favourite is Connor & mine is Aidan! Not sure how we're going to solve this one!

Chutney, hope you had a lovely holiday, sounds very relaxing!

Congratulations litterbug!

IceCube · 20/07/2008 16:20

I read some good advice somewhere about the naming issue.

Don't enter into any conversations about it before the birth as you might be put off from picking your favourite name.

After the baby is born you hand it over to granny/auntie etc and say this is "insert name". They will be so happy to see the new arrival they will never say a word about the name you have picked

rowergirl · 20/07/2008 19:21

Rosmerta I have a friend who has 2 boys, DS1 is Connor, DS2 is Aidan...she's pg with no3 (will have 3 under 3, but was always an over-achiever!)...I'll keep you posted on what they call that one due in Sept. Maybe both of you will like it!

I was so doolally (sp?) after giving birth I totally forgot what we were going to call the sprog and he ended up with a name that had never showed on "the list". Hardly unusualI know! We were toying with a couple of names until a kind friend pointed out that one sounded a tad too close to that of a serial killer...oops!

rosmerta · 20/07/2008 19:28

rowergirl how funny! I might just take effie's idea and say I get to choose. Iirc, dh did choose the name last time!

rowergirl · 20/07/2008 19:51

You could hybridise the 2 and have Conan....?

Thanks turnip, tbh it being common won't put dh off in the slightest! I think Aidan fits better with ds's name (Patrick). The girl's name we've chosen is Erin Theresa - we have Irish blood as well!

After last time, we don't bother telling anyone either. There was always someone who said 'oh I used to know a such & such and they were awful!'. Plus, I think its nice for people to be introduced to them rather than knowing what the name's going to be!

katie3677 · 20/07/2008 21:25

Turnip, 2 Irish names I love are Aiofe (sp?) and Cliona, but not being Irish I don't think I could get away with it! DS has a Scottish sounding name which as I'm half Scottish and half German I think is alright. I am now trying to come up with an Anglicised version of a German name for the next one. All of my German family's names are pretty harsh sounding though - Ingeborg, Gunhild, Walter etc!

Veggiemummy · 20/07/2008 21:30

that was amazing that Minster shared her story with us, i imagine that she will not check back now but really appreciate her story and think she is so brave. Will also donate to that SANDS charity in honour of T, good lovely idea.

Veggiemummy · 20/07/2008 21:44

helloo back from Wales had a lovely time though a bit wet and the child friendly farm people turned out to be cat loving, child haters. But DS loved the cats and we ignored the child haters and went for lovely walks and DS played in the fields very happily. They had some highland cows (not quite sure why?) which DS was very intrigued by as he had never seen cows who "didn't have eyes" was very bemused as to how they could get around without any eyes.

Never tell anyone the names you have chosen, there is always someone who has known someone they don't like with that name. We actually chose a couple of names and then went with the one we actually could remember when he was born (might be a good idea to write them down somewhere next time).

I would love an Irish name like Fergus or Ferdia, but i'm Australian and DH is Chinese so just doesn't sound right. Also think this one is a girl. DH has a very difficult surname to match first names to and i don't have the back up of the middle name to carry out my Irish name fantasy on, as it will have it's chinese name as it's middle name.

Veggiemummy · 20/07/2008 21:45

oh almost forgot, def the tomato wheat crunchies.
