New thread lovely ladies

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Veggiemummy · 10/07/2008 14:40

Lady i have been getting the faintness, headaches and also palpitations on and off for a couple of weeks now, it didnt happen for DS so i convinced myself i had pre-eclampsia or something (i know a bit early for that) was just about to ring the MW when i had a quick check online and found all due to big hormone push in 2nd trimester. i am still getting headaches but only for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

pixsix · 10/07/2008 15:50

Artichokes sorry to hear about your UTI, it sounds horrible for you.

Well the midwife heard the hb so said it was probably Braxton Hicks (Mibbes you were right!) but she has also sent off a sample to test for a UTI.

Feel a bit silly for being so worried

Veggiemummy · 10/07/2008 15:57

pixsix it is better to feel a bit silly about being worried than to ignore symptoms and find that it was something dangerous too late. Besides welcome to the rest of your life, you are going to be worrying about yours and your offspring's minor and not so minor symptoms from now on and it's lucky that you do, it is what keeps them safe and hopefully healthy.

minster · 10/07/2008 16:06

LittlePeanut I'm so sorry, we lost our baby at 16 weeks two and a half years ago It does get more bearable but the loss never goes away & I still feel so sad about it.

Well more stress from me ... had mw appointment this afternoon (unlucky 16 weeks ), she couldn't find a hb or hear any movement from the baby. My uterus is bulky because of a fibroid which she said wasn't helping - she said the placenta sounds really good They won't scan me - so dh has booked a private scan for Saturday morning, the earliest we could get. There's not much to say really, we just have to wait & see.

pixsix · 10/07/2008 16:12

Thanks veggie!

Minster you poor thing, how horrible that they won't scan you. Fingers crossed for good news on Sunday.

pixsix · 10/07/2008 16:13

Sorry, Saturday.

Olipop · 10/07/2008 16:14

Oh Minster....that sounds scary...I hate the fact that they wont bloody scan you.

Veggiemummy · 10/07/2008 16:37

minster i can't believe they won't scan you, shouldnt they be scanning you a bit more than other mums because of the fibroid. I have heard that fibroids tend to shrink as the pregnancy progresses but surely they should be checking that it is!!!!!! oh i'm all riled up now, there is no consistency in this medical system. The NICE guidelines were supposed to change these things.

LadyThompson · 10/07/2008 16:46

Why won't they scan you Minster? I am really glad you are having a private scsn, good luck with that xx

minster · 10/07/2008 16:54

Because there's no evidence of 'intra uterine death' - no bleeding, pain & uterus is measuring big enough. They offered to send me to the consultant clinic on Thursday for a possible scan if the drs can't find it ... there's no way I can wait that long though.

mibbes · 10/07/2008 16:57

minster just to add my name to the list of outraged AN buddies - that is ridiculous ! Why on earth won't they scan you ? Surely the worry is not good for you or the baby and the fact that you had a late mc before will make you worry even more - these people just amaze me grr...

mibbes · 10/07/2008 16:58

what a load of old pants - you need the reassurance of seeing your wee baby bobbing about in there {{big hugs}}

LadyThompson · 10/07/2008 17:02

Still cross with them but if you think about it, it's heartening that you haven't got the other stuff...Well, you are going day after tomorrow, you've only got to get through tomorrow, really, though horrendously nervewracking I'm sure

Verso · 10/07/2008 17:46

that's outrageous! I've had two 'missed' m/cs (though to reassure you they were both MUCH earlier). Lack of evidence of m/c is not a good reason not to investigate further. Can you get a 2nd opinion? This must be so stressful for you (hugs) x

JamInMyWellies · 10/07/2008 18:03

minstr absoloutley livid on your behalf utterly disgraceful behaviour.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 10/07/2008 19:15

Thursday!!!! That is a week away, have people never had a child the stress and worry alone of waiting that long to see the Doctor not even the scan could do bad things for you and bub. Where are you having the scan?

rosmerta · 10/07/2008 19:29

minster that's absolutely awful . Even if they think there's no need for an immediate scan, they could've done one just for your peace of mind.

Well, I'm back to crap food. Dh out at a race tonight, I've had a very tiring day with ds so have just ordered myself a pizza & garlic bread . I really am just making excuses now!

chutneymary · 10/07/2008 19:52

Minster, I am outraged on your behalf. A week is far too long to expect you to sit there worrying. I am so glad you can have the scan on Sat, as it will no doubt put your mind at rest.

With our various ailments, we are a sorry bunch at the moment. I am very tearful again, and fat as a house. Am feeling faintly revolted with myself for eating so much and wonderfing how I can slow the lardout. Any ideas?

The children have been driving me bonkers today. God only knows how I'll cope with 3 of them.

Veggiemummy · 10/07/2008 20:13

I say just go with it chutney, a few people here have talked about having a Materity nurse i'm splurging on a personal trainer once all recovered from birth etc. As this is the last DC we will have a i plan to make the most of being able to have an increased calorie intake.

Now we have been giving tips for the lovely newbie 1st time mums about what happens when they come out. But what about 1st time 2nd mums, what is it like having a new bub with a cheeky little monkey around. Any tips? and as i mentioned earlier we had a lovely lay in period when DS was born, all the bonding skin to skin time and no work for me just BFing and cuddles. I thinking someone called it babymooming. I would like to do it again for DC2 but is this a dream with a 3y.o?

rosmerta · 10/07/2008 20:43

Veggie, I'll be a first 2nd time mum as well, good question! I've already been thinking about the babymoon and I wasn't sure if it would be fair on ds to have me paying most of my attention to dc2. I thought I'd get a sling and then dc2 can still be close to me but I can play with ds as well.

Btw, I've just seen a thread about nature nests. Has anyone used one? Are they worth it?

Veggiemummy · 10/07/2008 21:59

a friend had one of those naturenests but her baby didn't really like it, well actually her baby didnt like being in bed full stop so not sure if it was the fault of the nest. They do look really comfortable, i remember when i 1st saw hers i wished they had one for big people.

This heart palpitations and irregular heart beat and breathlessness is really starting to annoy me i feel like an old women. it took me ages to eat dinner cos i had to stop to catch my breath every few mouthfuls. I thought it was something that would just last a few weeks but just read about someone who had it all the way through pregnancy.

EffiePerine · 11/07/2008 08:56

That is awful Minster. Def go for the private scan to put your mind at rest - well done to your DH for being so supportive. Best of luck for Sat - not long to wait. It does sound like the other signs are positive but must be such a worry

I have tentatively contacted a doula . Will talk with DH and see if we can manage it. The service sounds excellent - help with birth plan, there for birth and afterwards, plus on the end of the phone for the first 6 weeks.

Veggiemummy · 11/07/2008 10:17

just had MW apt heard cheeky little heartbeat she (i'm sure it's girl) also gave a little kick apparently she is a bit of a mover and get moving away from the doppler thing. It was funny watching the MW kind of chase her around my tummy.

She also gave me some breathing techniques to deal with the palpitations which was great similar to yoga. All bloods etc all good.

Doula sounds good i was considering one too for this birth as feel it would have been helpful last time, and would be should be quite helpful for home birth.

hattyyellow · 11/07/2008 13:53

LittlePeanut so very very sorry to hear your news.

Minster hope you're okay..

Veggiemummy I too have been having breathlessness/funny palpitations/feeling a wee bit dizzy from time to time. Midwife didn't seem unduly worried at 16w check-up earlier this week, blood pressure etc fine. But reassuring to know it's common although sorry to hear you're going through it too.

Chutney I'm also still eating more rubbish than I should. Am getting better, but still at least a flapjack or big second helping or chocolate most days. Not quite sure how I'll have the energy to give birth!

I imagine running around after DC must be helping us metabolise the extra calories though? I find the days I tend to eat cake are when I'm tired, DD's have been up in the nigh, I've been rushing around with them all day and I'm looking for an instant sugar fix to get through bathtime etc with two tired toddlers. The days I work I'm much better about eating healthily, probably because I have the time too!

Have you tried porridge for breakfast? That seems to fill me up well for the morning. I've also got lots of healthy-style tinned soups and I tend to have them for lunch if I'm rushing about, with lots of bread. A friend told me to drink lots of fluids if I still felt hungry after eating to see if it was thirst rather than hunger..that helps sometimes.

I have refused to weigh myself though - I don't see the point!

Anyway - I'd also like some tips from everyone on being a second time mum! Although it'll be DC3, as we had twins first time around it'll be my first time dealing with babies and toddlers - I can't quite imagine how it's all going to work at the moment!

Even the thought of getting DD's and new baby up and dressed to nursery and pre-school seems quite daunting at the moment - especially at 3am when my babe seems to start wriggling about!

I'm planning to struggle out to as many coffee groups etc as I can - the more relaxed ones where you just sit and chat.

Our toddler music class is run by a very strict lady who hates kids running about and I think might frown on a new baby crying!

Veggiemummy · 11/07/2008 18:07

why on earth is she a toddler music teacher? that would be a little like me taking a job as a cleaner!

I also have stopped weighing myself i don't want to know. I am currently the heaviest i have ever been in my life, more than i was with my DS at 40 weeks so with 23 weeks to go i think it's best to forget we have scales. MW didn't weight me today so thats fine.
