Thought I'd do this and post my last comments:

Hi all. Glad to hear more good scan news!

We had MIL visit this weekend and she is such hard work. She literally never lifted a finger and kept going back to bed every couple of hours. I've asked DP not to let her come again for a while as it's hard work waiting on someone.

We also finally put DS in his 'big boy bed'. Went quite well - he went to bed no problems, but he woke up at 2am crying as he'd got stuck under the duvet. He was then awake for a couple of hours so I'm feeling shattered today. Anyone of you with older children got any tips?

Slinkie we'll be near each other for mat leave won't we? We can have some fun together I'm sure.

Meglet I'm the same as you with the whole bf thing. I hated it last time and was relieved when I gave up. I keep veering to and fro with regards to trying it for this baby. I had such a happy time last time round, really enjoyed the whole experience, and am worried that attempting to bf will make the whole thing fraught.

someone asked below about breastpumps. Mothercare has lanisoh manual pumps on sale for 10 or 12 pound fifty, will try ot find the link. I haven't used them but lanisoh makes good products all round.

kiskideesameanoldmother · 21/05/2008 15:41

here

johnworf · 21/05/2008 15:45

Lasinoh are fab and I have bought the nipple cream that, although expensive, I believe is THE best

The breast pump I've got is Tommee Tippee's closer to nature. In fact I've bought all the Closer to Nature range - note to ladies in here, the bottles contain BPA so no good if you want to pour boiling water straight into them. However, it's the best range to use in conjunction with BF (so I'm told).

johnworf · 21/05/2008 15:46

lollipopmother tis very strange where they do it! I think of myself as having a large cushion strapped to the front and she kicks around it

is anyone's fanjo is aching? as mine appeared to be like that today. Just been swimming with my DD to get the pressure off it and it was fine but now its aching again.....feel its heavy. ill be 24 weeks on Friday

kiskideesameanoldmother · 21/05/2008 16:12

SPD springs to mind.

DebitheScot · 21/05/2008 16:18

I might just go with the sleeping bags rather than swaddling then. I'm not expecting to have a small baby (unless it's early) so should be able to put in in sleeping bag straight away if I want to. If it does like being swaddled I can buy one then.

Really must at some point get all ds's old clothes and things out the loft and sort them into things to chuck, things to keep in case it's a boy and things that will be fine whatever it is. So far I have bought 1 set of 3 babygros and that's it. Oh and a friend gave me a snow suit that was worn once.

I'm sure before ds was born we'd been given quite a few things even this far before he was born. This new baby has been given nothing at all so far. Poor thing. I don't want it to have everyting new, a lot of ds's stuff is fine, but seems a bit mean for it not to have anythign new.

Other thing I keep meaning to look into is a buggy board.

hopefully · 21/05/2008 16:31

Mama2bee, DP discovered my list (read: anally retentive colour coded spreadsheet) last night and laughed at me for about an hour...

I really want to shop more, but sadly budget limitations mean I am restricted to a few essential purchases every month. Am going to actually bite the bullet and ask my mother for the money she offered us, so we can get the stokke cot. must check if they stock them in John lewis, then I can just take her to Cribbs Causeway one weekend...

Sunshinemummy · 21/05/2008 16:46

I had the Medela mini electric breast pump last time, which is great but really noisy. I'm going to get the Medela Swing this time which is much quieter I believe.

Hopefully I had a similar list last time and, although DS wasn't born until mid-March, we had everything ready by Christmas. I work in project management though so blame it on that!

We got our Stokke crib from the Baby Show and got a deal there. Worth trying places like Glasgow Pram Centre as they normally do everything at a good price (we've bought a few things from there).

Biglips might be worth trying a bump band. I don't have one but I believe they're great. You can get them from the NCT website. I'm thinking of getting one to help with all the pains I'm getting at the bottom of my bump.

SPD feels like a pain in the pelvic bone just above your fanjo. It can feel like a heaviness or like a bone ache. I got it mildly last time round but so far have only had slight twinges this time so am hoping I'll avoid it.

Second that on Glasgow Pram Centre - I have used them quite a few times and been impressed with speed of delivery and prices. Bought a car seat and saved £40 the other day.
I have not been buying much for bubba. I was ogling a P&T Vibe I saw in the Mamas and Papas cafe yesterday, but given my daughter is getting increasingly difficult about wanting to walk already, I may try how the Bugaboo buggy board/boo seat combo works for a while before plumping for such a huge purchase. I did buy two cellular blankets in blue and a pack of newborn boy babygros. DD was 6lb 9.5oz and we aren't big so I reckon I'll need a bit of newborn for a while. It was 0-3 she was barely in as I am the human equivalent of a Jersey cow it seems, and by 3 months had a very heavy baby! I did buy a set of bugaboo fleeces in blue before they run out though - and a new baby bjorn active for DH's birthday (from my folks). So maybe buying more than I realise, as usual
Had another scan this morning and all is well - got a great 3D view of bubba's face - looks like his sister, little snub nose (guess they all do at this stage though, don't they)? And even I could see the boy bits this time.
I am going to buy a Fresco Bloom highchair (my parents have offered to buy this as our gift for the baby). My friend has one for her baby and it is fabulous - in the earliest days, like a bouncy chair but at table level. Will be brilliant when DD having her meals and I don't want poor baby to be on the floor.
And, inevitably, when he won't go to bed nice and early and we want to have dinner, will be nice to have him where he can see us.
Otherwise I have been concentrating recently on picking things for DD's "big girl's bed", I ordered a Chester Toddler bed from GLTC, have been spending hours comparing mattresses and picking White Company bed linen, hurrah! But once that's all fixed up (3 weeks til the big move!) I will feel a bit more like focusing on baby things. 24 weeks is quite a big milestone for me I think!

slinkiemalinki · 21/05/2008 17:31

mega post! phew! just one thing to add - I used the Avent Isis iQ pump last time - it was great - and I found the system with the plastic cups great - just pump and freeze.

eandz · 21/05/2008 18:30

wow... i just caught up.

i went to gap again today and started to cry when i couldn't fit into a skirt because it had been labled as the price tag said size 12 but the inside tag (attached to the skirt) said size 8...when i asked the man at the counter for a 12 or 14 he suggested a size 18. i wanted to die right there...but it's ok, one day i'll have my sexy body back (hopefully) and his comment will be at rest.

i haven't felt baby move all day today and normally i don't worry but i had that weird awful pain in my side while pooing earlier...and i didn't have to strain! so just a little jumpy as to what that pain could be.

husband doesn't go away much and he usually takes me with him, but this time he was doing 2 countries a day and felt like i wouldn't enjoy it...i just miss him soo much...and now that our housemate has left for a wedding in frande i feel sad about eating dinner alone. i am soo pathetic!!

we go to dubai once in a while... and frankly i think the place is too hot to even wear eyeliner. I only WISH i could walk around naked with the exception of sandals...i think the last time i went there i imagined my eyeballs were drying out.

mamamufin · 21/05/2008 18:40

Gosh guys
Ive been at it half hour and havent caught up on the posts yet. I will post this then play catch up.

eandz · 21/05/2008 18:45

yes lolli,
just looked at the pictures...beautiful!!!

mamamufin · 21/05/2008 19:03

Glad the sleep training is going well Sunshine
Yes, I too am suffering from the excessive discharge and nose bleeds. Quite glad I am normal by the sounds of it.
I am yet to put on a pound . But feel as though I suffered enough at the beggining to gloat about this . My luck will soon run out as I have just ate my first curry and rice since xmas and really enjoyed it. However I was unable to swallow any of the chicken bits. Since all that sickness I am extra cautious without doing it on purpose. Does that make sense? Anyway white linen trousers will be fab for a wedding. I have some from dp and they come with the short leg.
Eandz My sis lives in Dubai and she really wants us to visit, I am worried its too far at the mo.

mamamufin · 21/05/2008 19:21

Yes Biglips I have an aching fanjo too!. It is worse of a night and especially when I roll over in bed. Uh oh hope its not that SPD. Funny thing is I dont have much of a bump yet so I dont think the bump band would help yet. Whens your Hub back eandz?

carrieon · 21/05/2008 19:22

Just caught up!
We had our first full night's sleep in nearly two weeks last night, dd didn't scream at any point overnight, and didn't wake up at 5am full of beans, the joys! It turns out it was teething pain - I've always been dismissive about teething coz I think so many people blame it for absolutely everything and dd produced her first 6 teeth with no drama at all, but turns out it was the case this time. I've never seen such an instant turn around in a child as when we used bonjela! Then later she grabbed my finger and tried to rub it on her gums, bless! Anyway, today the little blighter appeared in the gums so hopefully its over...til the next time.

I've got a really sore throat tonight, I've got a horrid feeling I'm going to wake up feeling like total ming tomorrow.

debi dd took to swaddling right away. She would fight it (dh and I would like in bed smirking at the grunting and huffing as she wriggled) but she never cried and slept better in her first few months than any time since! Anyone ever tried swaddling a 13month old?!

mustsleep · 21/05/2008 19:32

wow lolli your nursery is ace we haven;t even a room to put the baby in yet also shocking when i clicked on your profile page you could actually be me!! exact same hair, same hair cut and skin tone.......spooky

becaroo · 21/05/2008 19:35

Re: breastpumps....is it best to get one prior to birth and are manual or electric best???

I would love to bf but I wold also love dh and ds to be able to feed baby too

I am sore EVERYWHERE today. Bum, front bum, tummy, back, nipples (thanks to consultant eaelier who was trying to locate radio 2 with them!) and nosebleeds and sore throat here too...although my sore throat could be due to the reflux/indigestion at night???

Not bothering with a nursery..baby will be in with us for 6 months and then in with ds as per his wishes

carrieon · 21/05/2008 19:43

I had the avent breastpump, coz we were given avent bottles. It was a manual one but oh boy I got quick with it!
Every so often Tescos do insane deals on baby stuff, and I know people who've got the entire Tommee Tippee set for half price (steriliser, bottles, pump etc).
One of my friends has just been bought an electric pump by her dh and swears its the best present she's ever received, so its quite an individual thing!
I always thought that an electric one would make me feel more like a cow (I struggled to resist the urge to moo while pumping as it was) but I never actually tried one.
If you're talking about expressing one feed a day, a cheapo manual one would be fine, but if you end up expressing all your feeds (as I did. For weeks. And weeks. And weeks) then perhaps electric would be better? Dunno...

eandz · 21/05/2008 20:10

Husband should be back tomorrow...I hope.

yeah it's like a 5 hour flight? but it's a free trip and it'll be before my 7th month so i should be ok and be able to tough it out...i think.

carrieon · 21/05/2008 20:22

I second the recommendation that nothing soothes sore nips like lansinoh. I tried camilosan but just thought it smelled funny.

eandz I know just how you feel. Not that I get the opportunity for global travel, but dh and I won't be apart if we could be together, and I would def go on the trip and cope with the heat for the sake of being together...and it might be fun!
