We are two down and have another 30-40 to go. Makecakes and Gemma have probably popped by now, then G43! It's all happening!!!!!

I'll excuse you Paro as the blog you've started is so lovely, looking forward to real photos on there of Fleur.

Essie3 · 21/05/2008 15:16

I've just bookmarked Paro's blog - it's lovely! And Fleur is a lovely name too. (So far I haven't seen any names on here which I don't like. Well, apart from Rolf's list of possible saints, of course!)

alipalli · 21/05/2008 15:49

Cleaner situation seems to be about to resolve itself. The lady at the agency rang back after she got my email - nothing wrong with her phone line - apparently her mobile was on divert to the landline or somesuch . Cleaner off sick Mon and Tue, but she should now be coming in tomorrow.

Currently trying to set up an email distribution list for when the baby arrives. Harder than it ought to be. Convinced I will offend someone by missing them out. Quite inspired by the baby blogs. Would require me to be considerably more organised than I naturally am though....

thegreenfairy · 21/05/2008 16:37

katyjo/udc thanks for the supportive words
Did a dry run to the hospital this afternoon and I reckong it's 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. The Bristol hospital is 15 to 30 mins depending on jams, so it's not that different.
Happily I have got my own notes as in Bristol they let you carry them around with you so I am in control, which is just what I like!

paro can you get anyone from the UK to send you the moxibustion sticks? Or is there a Chinese supermarket on the island? They may have them. (you never know)
I may try to find some more tomorrow if I have time in which case I could send you a pack. Email me your address to roseedotbrownatgmaildotcom.
There are vids on Youtube of how to do it. I've found it much more effective than crawling (though of course different things work for different people...) Can you swim with your BP? Handstands in water also have some success apparently, as long as she's got room to move.
I also have a friend who birthed a breech baby (on all fours at home) and it went well so am feeling positive and happier to be doing things on my own terms again.

BH giving me jip so will tata for now.

bitofadramaqueen · 21/05/2008 16:47

I got my pram. Ooh, it's lovely and have had much fun putting it up and down.

Also spoke to a mw today re: new prescription for gaviscon and she sounded lovely. I'm seeing her tomorrow instead of my regular mw so if she is better at the appt then I'm going to ask if I can switch.

RGF - glad you are feeling positive today.

HAve also been inspired by all the chat about baby blogs as we have friends/family scattered about the place so it seems like a good way to keep people updated. May have to add that to my maternity leave to do list.

UDC - that's a very good point re: changing of clocks and routine. Thanks for that.

I still have a very active baby and no noticable BHs so am away to rest up on the sofa.

Parofleurmapu · 21/05/2008 16:49

Ah upsidedown! Sorry I knew i had prob got wrong person but with so many posts couldnt find it!!!

Thanks for comments on blog its very simple to set up and quite quick Ali, though keeping it up to date is harder!!!

TGF my sis says she will send me some if i want her too, didnt realise oyu could just buy them and do it yourself so depending on what dr says tonight ill let you know. Cant swim with BP unfornunately as cant leave house that much only for appts and odd quick walk.

bitofadramaqueen · 21/05/2008 16:50

Oh paro it wasn't my blog, but I think that your message inspired me to think about one. Am just away to have a nosy at it just now before heading to sofa.

Essie3 · 21/05/2008 16:58

Where are the other blogs then? Are people willing to reveal them so that I can read?

Just had a MW appointment, and alas, bit of a change of plan now. Having tested clear on Sunday, I now have protein in my water again! But a bit more this time. BP is normal - but I start from a lower point than most people. He's also not grown much the last 3 appointments (but has been measured a few times fairly close together). So it's off to the Ante Natal Day unit for me tomorrow. I'm not going to be losing sleep - part of me thinks, well, I'm at 37 weeks so if they decide it is pre-eclampsia (or pre-pre-eclampsia!), they can induce, and he'll be fine. And anyhow, they won't be inducing tomorrow, or even this week!

Darn it, should have done more work and finished that paper today!

needahand · 21/05/2008 17:05

Am having a complete unfocus day. Can't focus on anything. I have unpacked my hospital bag to see if I have everything I need in it but then went to do some reading so the content of the bag is on the floor. I have also started looking at nurseries in Bristol but after four websites I was bored. I then thought I should look how to turn my digital picture into photo albums and then had my reflexology treatment (was lovely). Very very unproductive day and I haven't started tackling these wardrobes. I guess my nesting instinct isn't really kicking in just yet!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/05/2008 17:07

LOL needahand - ~I'm still trying to figure out how the day has passed me by without me managing to tidy bedroom, do the washing up or spend 2 hours that I'm supposed to be 'working from home'. Oh and haven't had a shower yet either. .

needahand · 21/05/2008 17:13

Glad to know I am not the only one dramaqueen. I really really need to repack hospital bag though! The only thing I did was dowload the picture in my camera on computer to empty space so that we have a fully available card when DS pops out, and the camera now has batteries in it. What an achievement!!

needahand · 21/05/2008 17:16

oh I meant to ask. Can anyone recommend a good site where you send or upload your pictures and they put them in an album for you?

ErnestTheBavarian · 21/05/2008 17:33

apple to great photo books (and calendars) and are good value and excellent service too

just returned from playground where I had to sit with my top pulled up hoping no one would come along and see my huge fat red spotty belly on display

alipalli · 21/05/2008 17:51

I have achieved ONE THING today

I have just about completed my email distribution list for when we have some baby news.

That's it.

I feel that I have earnt a biscuit and a cuppa.

makecakesnotwar · 21/05/2008 18:13

Hey all- still workng on full birth story but tying from bed after long visit from my dad. Knackered! I have a blog...www.domesticgoddesque.blogspot.com...not tha I've had a chance to update it much recently.

All well here- tired, confused about bfing, actually confused about everything, but slowly adjusting, despite baby blues. Coud spend the whole day just cuddling my perfect baby!!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/05/2008 18:22

Photobox are quite good needahand.

Actually, anyone got any good recommendations for online photo albums for sharing with other people? I've been using flickr but its quite fiddly and family finding it quite difficult to use...

makecakes hope you are doing ok, not too confused and baby blues are banished soon!

Have managed to do the washing up now. Considerable achievement. Does anyone find it a bit hard to do the washing up with big belly in the way?

mellymell · 21/05/2008 18:37

Makecakes - many congrats on the new babe - hope it's all going well and you're going with the flow. BF-ing takes some getting used to - remember that the babe's mouth needs to be really wide to get the latch right, and if the latch isn't right, take the babe off right away and start again - nothing worse than knackered nipples at the beginning!

Am gradually slowing down this end. have had my mum to stay filling my freezer which is not massively relaxing. It's a bid odd having someone in one's own kitchen and fiddling with the freezer - or am I completely sad?

Also sleeping more in the day - haven't been doing much exercise - find walking completely knackers my back. Must do some swimming or something.

Anyway, love to all new mums out there.

MM

Neenztwinz · 21/05/2008 18:42

Thanks everyone for all the advice on dry pailing. So do I just put the dirty nappies straight in the nappy pail without water or nappy soak? Then put them straight in the wash? But what about sanitising them? A 40 degree or 60 degree wash isn't going to kill all the germs...? I can put my antibacterial nappy soak in the washing machine, so shall I do that?

I had a terrible night last night. Theo cried and fed and fed from 10pm until 6am!! I have been catching up on sleep today and my mum is coming to stay with us tonight. Hoping for a better night tonight. They have been weighed today - Theo has put on 6oz since Sat (now 6lb 9oz) and Esther has gained just over 1oz (now 4lb 10oz). I was delighted with Theo and it made the sleepless night last night feel worth it. He must be going through a growth spurt and is building up his supply. Why couldn't he do that during the day???? MW said Esther's gain was OK too, as long as she is gaining. And she has fed much better today so I am sure she will pile on the weight soon enough.

bitofadramaqueen · 21/05/2008 18:52

Sorry you had a lousy night neenz. I did quite a bit of research on reusables and no-one has recommended that they need to be sanititsed. 60 degree wash should be fine. Putting them on a cold rinse first also helps. (I think it was first and not at the end, I'll check...)

I'd recommend getting a mesh bag to put in your bucket so you can transfer nappies easily to the washing machine. If you put some lavender oil on a muslin cloth taped to your nappy bin lid that helps contain any smell.

looneytune · 21/05/2008 19:12

Hi everyone. No time to catch up properly but been skimming through very quickly on occasions looking for more baby news. Many congrats to makescakes - gorgeous!!

Right, things to do but wanting to keep thread in my list

Bye for now x

dylansmumplusone · 21/05/2008 19:23

makecakes the first couple weeks with bfeeding is by far the hardest - you'll get the hang of it and it's so wonderful when you do. I hope you have a good supply of lansinoh and use it generously, it's what saved me from giving up when i was in a lot of pain. enjoy every second of those cuddles!!

neenz sorry to hear you had a bad night. i guess they won't all be smooth but that's tough to remember when you're so sleep deprived you feel inhuman! hope you have a better night tonight. x

ds has been soooo cute today. he gave me a huge cuddle, saying awwww the whole time and then said I LOVE YOU and kissed me on the mouth!!!! it's the first time he's ever said that without someone telling him to say it ifkwim! very exciting.

since dh got home they've been playing like mad and giggling and dancing and it's just so sweet i can barely stand it!!

if anyone's interested i've recently started a knitting blog. not too much on it yet but i enjoy it so much i wanted to document what i've been up to. blog. i'm also thinking about starting one for the baby for overseas people but use facebook a lot to stay in touch so not sure if it's worth it.

LauraT · 21/05/2008 19:32

needahand I'd second photobox, easy to use and reasonable prices.

I've had a terrrible 24 hours, don't recommend getting gastroenteritis at 35 weeks pregnant. Was up all night with vomiting and diarrhoea which has persisted until about 2 hours ago. the combination of vomiting and BH is particularly horrid. I am still in PJs, feeling v sorry for myself, and can't even phone my Mum for sympathy as she's in Moscow for the football!

DH has been lovely though with brow mopping and everything. just managed to eat a bowl of soup for first food since lunch yesterday so think may be over the worst now.

not really managed to catch up on the news, but I like everyone's name suggestions, without exception

going to attempt going downstairs now to watch the champions league final and see if I can spot my parents!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/05/2008 19:33

Very impressed with your creativity dylansmum.

Am loving checking out all of these blogs today (possibly why I've got so little done) and am now seriously thinking of doing a baby blog.

For those of you with blogs... is it fairly easy to do, and easy to restrict who can access it? It looks like you all mostly use blogger.com - so thought I might try that out. Thinking I might need to wait until after baby is born though, because we wont have a name till then!

aberdeenhiker · 21/05/2008 19:45

upsidedowncake - I love the name Dorothy, it was my Nana's name and she was the most kind and giving person with a hidden backbone of steel - I think it's a great name for a girl!

essie - I've linked to mine before, it's at www.spiritofplace.com.

dylansmum - ohh! I'm so impressed by your knitting skills. I'm still working on the new baby's baby blanket just in regular stitches and it's taking forever.

bitofadramaqueen - blogger is the easiest place to start a blog for sure. I use wordpress.org, but over the years (I've had one since 2000), I've used just about everything to maintain it and they are all decent, but I'd recommend blogger to start with.

Laura - oh, I hope you're feeling better! How terrible!

Upsidedowncake · 21/05/2008 20:00

Paro, just been looking at your blog, it's gorgeous.

Dylansmum, love your knitting blog. I am so impressed by the kinds of things that you are doing. Also DYlan looks so cute as a wee baby!

Makecakes, I enjoyed yours too. I love the idea of saving ticket stubs and using them as bookmarks.

DQ, setting up a blog is so easy even I could do it! It might be worthwhile setting it up beforehand so that you can post a couple of bump pics first!

Our family blog has been going for about two and a half years and is a real labour of love. It's been worth it, though. However, I have to admit that it's really DH's and that he does all the work. He sees it as his creative outlet. It helps that it's set as the home page on our internet, so it gives us a bit of a kick up the backside if we haven't updated it for a while. Last week, we looked back at all the posts from 2005 and 2006 - it was really amazing to see how DS grew and developed in his first year. We use FLICKR for photos.

LauraT, sorry about gastroenteritis. You must have had a dreadful time.

Neenz, sorry you had a bad night. I remmeber growth spurts being exhausting but really rewarding when I realised how much DS had grown. I heop Theo settles into daytime feeding soon!
