Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
debinaustria · 07/05/2008 05:11

Just eaten a bowl of cereal, i couldn't wait any longer!

xxgemmalou22xx · 07/05/2008 05:17

lol same here i could not wait i have had toast. i have to inject twice a day its so annoying.. The doctors have been increasing my insulin every week because the pregnancy is sending it up.

debinaustria · 07/05/2008 05:19

How long have you been diagnosed diabetic?

xxgemmalou22xx · 07/05/2008 05:25

three years and a half so i can live with it. I had it well controlled until 30 weeks pregnant and before i was pregnant it was well controlled i was on tablets. The doctor said when i have given birth i can go back onto tablets which is great i cannot wait!

My pregnancy was unplanned but i wanted to keep her from the start the babies dad did a runner to someone else who has a 1 year old son and he is more bothered about bringing her son up then our daughter. He will not even speak to me and i have done nothing wrong soo this makes me really angry..

The closer the baby gets to being born the more i cant stand him...

debinaustria · 07/05/2008 05:36

Gemma - sounds like you've had a rough time of it, my advice would be to concentrate all your energies on your baby rather than your ex - it's him that will be losing out. Once your little girl is here she will make it all worthwhile.
And when the going gets tough, as it does in those early weeks, MN is very supportive and packed with people with great advice and experience.
Do you have any friends with children?

xxgemmalou22xx · 07/05/2008 05:45

im trying to focus on me and the baby but he will always make me sick for how he has been.

Yeah thats why i have joined the web page so i can get support and yes i got a friend with a new born so she keeps me going to.

My family are being supportive too i cant go wrong im alright now it was hard at first but like you said he will miss out

debinaustria · 07/05/2008 06:10

Boys are up now so things to do, see you all later.

ErnestTheBavarian · 07/05/2008 07:41

bloody hell, you lot are impossible. Saw some discussion about bottles. I used Avent ones. Have chucked my old ones (they were practically opaque ) so will treat baby to some brand new ones, but I won't swap from Avent as the pump and everything is that make. Saying that I bf without problems all 3 so don't really see I'll need much, apart from expressing.

Went to visit one hospital last night. The midwife nearly fainted when I said I was 35 weeks and would be having a c-section and almost dragged me down half way through the info talk to book me in there and then! I was all set to go to that hospital, but I met my midwife who will look after me once I've had the baby, and she recommended a different one, but it doesn't have a neo natal unit, whereas the one last night does,. I've not really had to make that decision before, as the hospitals coincidentally have all had the unit on site. hmm. Anyway, as the journey to the hospital last night took me the best part of an hour in the rush hour, instead of 20 mins, I'll also be interested in seeing the journey to the other. Thank God I won't (hopefully) be doing a mid-labour dash, or I'd definitale rule it out. WIll feel happier to have a hospital organised tho, as I'm probably going to have it in just 4 weeks.

I still can't believe I'm pregnant. Apart from a wiggly tummy which is a constant reminder of course! Any tips on getting all clucky as I feel this little one has had no interest or attention at all. I need to start feeling positiv and excited.

Yesterday found a giant shopping centre 5 mins down the road, literally, and they had an h&m, so I got a couple of belly band and a couple of breastfeeding tops that I can also wear now. Warning - they had loads, but please bear in mind anything you try on now will look wonderful with your big, proud, taut, round bellies. I tried one on and it looked great. Luckily I had a reality check and reminded myself that horizontal stripes on a fat wobbly, jelly belly will be a seriously bad look. OMG we're going to spend the summer looking bloody awful, aren't we. Or is that just me. AM revelling in my temporary pg tum. Only 1 more month, then I go back to being a podgy, wobbly state who feelins obliged to do something about it

Gemma, when's your due date - 6 llbs already! Last week, doc said mine was 2.5 kilos. Can't be bothered to convert, but at 34 weeks, that was apparently about right.

Deb am so about you going away. Oh how I would love a break. Good luck at docs.

Splodgesmum - my experiences of waterbirthing are

ds1 - had bath run and about to get in when they discovered he was breech and had emergency section instead
ds2 - also wanted water birth, but labour so quick I was already about 8 cm by the time I got to hospital, so didn't work out.
ds3 - finally got in the pool! Was in there for a while - no idea how long, but it actually seemed to slow down my progress (too relaxed?) So went from dimly lit room, gentle music and warm pool, to baby in distress, all lights blazing and about 20 worried looking doctors, and be being hauled out onto a bed, soaking wet and a not very happy baby, so didn't end up being the cosy relaxed birth I'd attempted, and dreamt of for all 3 boys. I guess I can do pg no problem, just can't quite squeeze 'em out. SO not risking it this time, hence c-section. But I still like the idea of it.

Just don't forget, if you're hoping for a hospital water birth there are so many factors that could prevent it - taking too long to fill it up, someone else using it, the staff on duty not being happy about it for whatever reason,,,,, so imo & ime it's a wonderful thing to have if you have the chance, but don't get too fixed on it.

So

sophiewd · 07/05/2008 08:21

Morning all.

Ernest good luck with your hospitakl research today.

Debs and Gemma - hope you are not too tired today.

Dog woke us up at 5am just getting us used to everything I suppose.

Our really nice quiet weekend has turned into a busy one in the space of a couple of phone calls.

goingfor3 · 07/05/2008 08:37

Ernest, I was admiring my belly last night and thinking I better make the most of having a good excuse for having a huge belly as soon it will just be huge due to flab and I'll forever be trying to hide it with baggy tops!! Hope you find a good hospital.

Debs and Gemma, I felt tired just looking at the time you were having that convo!

ktpie · 07/05/2008 09:09

Morning everyone,

I'm not going to worry about the bottle scare unless for some reason I can't breastfeed and have to give formula, then I will try and get some bisphenol A free bottles. As far as I can see the biggest risk is going to be from a lot of exposure to the bottles from being exclusively bottle fed, along with using old damaged bottles and pouring boiling water in them.
The risk from using the bottles for the odd expressed breast milk feed would surely be far lower, and at the moment that is all I am planning on doing.

I'm really starting to overheat at work now, and have another lovely day stuck in the lab, really glad I am finishing this week!

makecakesnotwar · 07/05/2008 09:10

Debs (and now Gemma) am beginning to worry about the middle-of-the-night posts!!

Gemma- sorry to hear about your baby's father. Men can be such assholes. There's a lady in my NCT group who has diabetes- she's being induced the same day as me (next Thursday!!) and her baby already weighs over 7lbs. I hope that you are coping with everything and glad that you have RL support. We are very supportive too, but slightly nuts, you may have noticed!!

DQ (I think- pregnancy brain kicked in) goodluck today.

What else? Oh yes...this bottle debate. NCT lady mentioned last week we might be reading about it in the press. Little pissed off as I spent ages researching which bottles to buy and waited till the Tommee Tippee ones were half price in Tescos....I do plan on bf but you never know. I have decided to take it all with a pinch of salt. I was bottle fed, as was everyone I know, I have bottle fed dozens of babies and children and none of them are so nuts I am worried about the damage the bottles did to them. Besides, advice changes all the time. When we all got pregnant, we weren't supposed to drink anything at all, and now they say we can have the odd glass.

Science. Hmmmm

makecakesnotwar · 07/05/2008 09:11

Oh, and off for the last pre-baby haircut- don't know if I'll be able to sit for so long, especially in this heat. I know it's not hot hot but is anyone else struggling? I was overheating before it got so sunny.....

bitofadramaqueen · 07/05/2008 09:26

Morning all, thanks for all the good wishes re: exam - will let you know how it goes later.

So many posts already today! I'm feeling quite lucky on the sleeping front, I occasionally wake up to go to the loo but the LO hasn't been keeping me up at night.

splodgesmum at your bottle feeding class! I'm a big believer in choice, so completely understand them giving you lots of info about different feeding options and reassuring you that mixed feeding does not make you the devil incarnate but you dont often here about being positively encouraged to introduce FF these days. If you post about that on the breastfeeding threads people will be outraged all day .

Right, food and some last minute revision for me. The one thing about this exam - its made the last week go very quickly so now nearly up to 34 weeks. Have some money set aside for some baby shopping so itching to get on with that after the exam.

Have a good day everyone.

LauraT · 07/05/2008 09:36

good grief, I don't post for a couple of days and you're 8 pages into a new thread!

Had a lovely long weekend, although had my teenage cousin to stay (on a break from boarding school) which was... entertaining. Overdid it on Sunday traipsing around Edinburgh with him and have now got lower back pain for the first time in pregnancy. Thank the lord I don't have SPD as I am a moaning minnie with some low grade aches and pains! - lots of respect for all you sufferers!

Had MW appt yesterday, and still all good, Baby is head down and measuring 34cm at 33 weeks, so might be big. eek. mind you DH is 6'5" so it's to be expected... luckily, he does have quite a small head! think I should get a gold star for my BP which has been 105/60 pretty much constantly!

GemmaLou sounds like you're better off without baby's father, and that you have a great attitude to the whole thing!

DQ good luck vibes coming your way

makecakes loving the heat but struggling substantially with it! my office has been like an oven for the last 2 months anyway, and think I may have to refuse to do any work if it stays like this!

Ice Lollies are the new creme eggs folks!

splodgesmum · 07/05/2008 09:59

dramaqueen, don't think I'll be posting on the bf thread judging by what others here have said, it sounds a little scary - do they phone social services if you admit to even considering ff?!

ernest, thanks for the stories on water births (or not!), I agree that I don't want to get my heart set on it but it did all look so lovely last night, dh and I felt quite dreamy about the whole thing - oh the naivety of those who have never given birth before!!!

gemma, really sorry to hear about your ex-partner - his loss, but it must be v heard to cope with all the same. Welcome to the thread and thanks for pandering to us old farts on the 'text speak' thing!

just watching an advert on tv for homebase encouraging us to 'spruce up our gardens with special offers on garden furniture' - do you think they do any furniture for lady gardens?!!!!

LauraT · 07/05/2008 10:24

splodgesmum what were you considering furniture-wise? I have visions of an ornamental gnome and a water feature now!

aberdeenhiker · 07/05/2008 10:31

splodgesmum - I tried the birthing pool last time and it didn't work for me, but then I hate baths so it's no surprise. I've heard from other friends that it's fabulous so I think it might just depend on the person. It could be worth a try if you find baths comforting.

Also, I sent in my test for strep B yesterday. It was £32 and I figured it was better to be safe than not. I'm crossing my fingers for a negative!

gemma, sounds like your baby has been growing well, which is great and I'm glad you've got good family support.

(We are a thread of old farts aren't we? How many of us are under 30, let alone under 25? Not me...)

ernest - hah! I think I'm wearing the horizontal stripe maternity and breastfeeding shirt you mentioned from H&M today! It's nice and loose around the middle though to cover my future jelly belly and I'm counting on my belly bands to make me look almost decent...

I had my midwife appt yesterday and the baby was head down and 4/5ths engaged (ie just starting to descend into my pelvis). While it's exciting, it's also giving me a dose of pelvic pain - ouch! I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse and I feel for everyone who's had it for ages and had to run after toddlers! The midwife booked me in for three weeks from now at 38.5 weeks but said "unless you've had your baby already". That set off a panic last night as DH started to realize that his list of baby chores (moving furniture etc.) really do need to be done this weekend! (We're busy the weekend after).

goingfor3 · 07/05/2008 10:34

makescakes, enjoy your haircut! This heat is unbearable.

I really struggled taking the girls to school and nursery this mornng. I managed to get to the school, had a long sit down and started towards nursery. After 5 mins I had to sit on a grass verge and then thankfully found another mother walking her son to nursery so asked her to take my dd. I was so exhausted I was in tears which is really unlike me. My mum is picking dd2 uop from nursery and another mum is bringing dd1 home for me. I really cannot cope for another few weeks and feel so miserable that such a basic thing is such a great chore .

bitofadramaqueen · 07/05/2008 10:36

Under 30 aberdeen? If only...

OP posts:
ktpie · 07/05/2008 10:38

Makecakes - being a scientist I'd like to think it is less the science that is at fault but more the rather misleading reporting of it! All the conflicting advice does get really confusing.

Aberdeen - exciting that the baby is starting to descend. We're getting really close now!

I'm under 30, after all the conversation about 1980 last week didn't want to admit that is when I was born as well!

My office gets the full sun all afternoon and they refurbished it recently with a blind that gets caught if you have the window open as well. I'm definitely starting to feel the heat!

xxgemmalou22xx · 07/05/2008 10:41

thanks everyone for your kind words im due june 16th but no way will i make it there now shes like over 6lb haha! It is just a matter of waiting now.

Yes it was hard to cope with and adjust to him not wanting to know what hurt me more was how she will feel when she grows up and knows he was not there thats all personally i cant stand him for what hes done he aint no man but she wont be without!

I am not tired today i fell asleep at 6am until half ten about now so im alright but i will still keep going!

Splodgesmum its alright i am finding it hard to type properly though due to the fact im used to talking text talk haha! but ill keep it up...

hope your all feeling well x

Essie3 · 07/05/2008 10:42

Hello all,

It's really hot, I agree - my feet were really chubby fat girl feet last night - grr! DH gave me a little massage. Still fat though - it's quite funny because I'm a bony girl!
Makescakes - my final haircut tomorrow! I have a complicated life and live in n. wales but DH is in London and so is my hairdresser, so it will be a while before I go again!

Considering going to H&M later today - bf tops because I can't really justify more maternity clothes with 5 weeks to go. Is it worth the trip on my fat feet?

Off to talk about my nipples on pregnancy, then shower. DH has an interview today - fingers crossed!

p.s. 32. Felt young until the 13 year old came out of the obstetrician's office before me.

Upsidedowncake · 07/05/2008 10:49

Morning everyone

Now got loads of work to do so won't be chatting nearly as much. Re my appraisal, am waiting to get it in writing, but I think they have been so generous re mat leave (till Sep 09), I don't want to rock the boat right now. And I feel quite a lot better about myself having had a half an hour chat with another marketing agency last night, who asked (rather than me offering!) if I could do some ad-hoc consultancy once the baby settles down. They were very welcoming. Everyone there has toddlers and they pro-offered that they wouldn't expect to hear from me until December!

I certainly won't be on MN as much as much as Debs and Gemma! SOrry you're not sleeping, guys. Gemma, sounds like your baby's doing really well , and that you have a good attitude re the baby's father.

Jelly belly - eek.

Laura, good news BP! am

Ernest, good luck with hospital research

Make cakes, how are you feeling today?

Dramaqueen, hope it goes OK today

Sophie, does that mean you now have guests? Are people taking advantage of the lovely weather?

nettiehay · 07/05/2008 10:52

ktpie glad I'm not alone in being under 30 (another 1980 girl here)... although... yikes at the 13 (!) yo that Essie saw at the Ob's.

My boss was asking how I was going this morning and I admitted to being quite tired in the afternoons/evenings, so he suggested that once my replacement is in, then I might like to finish a bit earlier if I am flagging. Really lovely of him to suggest it, but not really doable due to the amount of work I need to get done before I finish work!

gem sounds like you are looking at the situation with your ex the right way - his loss, not yours.
