I wonder how quickly we'll get through this thread?!?!?!?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Morning all,

Greenfairy, the student midwife will be really flattered if you ask her to attend.

Josey, I really don't remeber the afterpains from dd1 but after dd2 they were worse than labour - not looking forward to them!!!

aberdeenhiker · 15/05/2008 08:38

your jeans will be tighter because your hips have probably spread - even my maternity jeans are tight at this point, but things do go back to normal after a few months! promise!

mellymell · 15/05/2008 09:12

Morning

Had my 36 week scan yesterday and it looks like DS2 will be another whopper - he's already 7.5 lbs at 36/7 weeks and at 1 lb a week, I'd better get him out soon! When I asked the sonographer what the estimated size was, he replied - oh, you want to know if he's going to be a 'side splitter' - he wouldn't be so flippant if this was happening to him!!

Anyway, off to the midwife today where I bet you they will be urging me to have an induction sometime soon. Am starting my raspberry leaf capsules today and try everything before I let the doctors get their hands on me.

Well, must do a bit of work - then my work will leave me alone for the rest of my ML. Hope the drop in temperature is keeping everyone cool.

speak later.

Morning everyone

Hope you all slept well. No Gemma at 4 am this morning so hopefully, that was good news.

Greenfairy, having a student midwife sounds like a fab idea. I bet she'd be really chuffed.

Katyjo, are you still contracting?

Josey, nesting is exciting. How long have you got?

No news from Neenz yesterday. I wonder how she is getting on.

Have a nice day, everyone.

aberdeenhiker · 15/05/2008 09:38

Mellymell - 7.5 lbs! That's half a pound larger than my DS was at birth (at 38 weeks). But then did they give you an idea of how accurate your scan was? I thought they had trouble estimating weight from ultrasound?

My raspberry leaf tea has really increased my braxton-hicks - not sure if I like that or not! We're away this weekend at a bike race so it'd be bad if the LO showed up then, but I almost want it to as I'm convinced that if it doesn't, I'll end up overdue!

Josey - want to come nest at my house? Unfortunately I've not got any urges to clean, nor did I last time either. I must be a real slob!

Can't wait for more birth news...

mellymell · 15/05/2008 10:16

aberdeen - DS1 was 8lbs 10 and second babes are usually bigger. I am resigned to the fact that DS2 will be bigger, but if I can push him out slightly earlier (DS1 was 2.5 weeks over due), then I can avoid too much hassle. Also, bear in mind that I am a very broad 5ft 9" ex rower with a father of 6ft 4" who is built like a brickhouse, so I was never going to have small delicate babes.

My DH keeps saying that it is best that we are having a boy rather than a girl because a daughter would be forever wishing that she was small and delicate like I have for near 40 years!! That's why I rowed - any excuse to spend a lot of time around blokes who towered above me - blissful. Although, typically, I ended up going out with the Captain of the light weights and spent my entire time justifying our height difference!

dylansmumplusone · 15/05/2008 10:41

morning all. sorry it's impossible to catch up with so many posts but will try to start again!!

been at in-laws for a few days because i needed a rest and to get out of our sweltering flat. sure enough a few days in a house with a garden and my ankles have reappeared! however dylan had a crash when i was in the next room and i instinctively went rushing in, scooped him up and ran down the stairs carrying him to rinse the blood out of his mouth (he's fine, tooth in lip so lots of blood) and in the process i have destroyed what was left of my pelvis. the next day i could only crawl around. i'm walking again but if i step slightly wrong my body just collapses. we've hired a mother's help for 3 days a week next week and week after even though we can't afford it because i can't lift ds or anything but the baby's been moving loads (and i think has dropped) so i'm really hoping he's going to be a week or 2 early. or is that just wishful thinking??

i had a dream last night that i had the baby but in the hospital instead of home, he was perfect, my labour was 6hrs 15mins i had no drugs and we named him Jackson Myles. here's hoping it was a premonition (except for the hospital bit).

Parofleurmapu · 15/05/2008 10:46

Morning its quiet on here today!!
Think my LO will be biggish too she is now 6.2 pounds at 36 weeks so not bad!!

Have decided not to do external moving thing to turn baby and just let her be.
Hopefully she will turn round by herself, however apparently lying down on back and not sitting upright, bad posture etc is not good for chances of breech baby. I know she turned round while i was in hospital obviously in there was on complete bed rest.
Think might compromise at home and try and stay upright sometimes and hope BP stays ok! I cant win!!

I just cannot keep up with all these posts!

Rolf I will try the garlic cloves too, but I too am a bit squimmish, but then I am slightly desperate to have a negative so I'd better!

dramaqueen I read somewhere that you should start taking arnica two weeks before your due date. It ties in with Rolf's advice. I didn't do it before the birth last time but did it afterwards and it worked a treat. So did baths with lavender oil and tea trea oil. You obvioulsy have been lucky shopping for clothers. I went the other day in search of a skirt or some short pants and there was nothing left in my size. I ended up buy a pair of pants from mothercare one size up and they were hideous and very tight on the tights (Essie you are not alone!) so I brought them back. I am still putting on weight like made despite only eating salads

Essie sorry aout protein in urine. I hope it sorts itself out soon.

AHI tested postive for the NHS test not a private on, and it gets 50% false positive which is why I am keen to get a negative test especially since I am planning a HB. Wouldn't be very easy if I was positive as I would have to go to hospital to get first dose of AB and then come back home.

Looney glad to see the baby is staying put and you infections cleared, that's good news.

GF arnica spray sounds good, will look for one. I also did my birth plan yersterday just in case I need to go to hospital and I too will check Neen's to see if I have forgotten anything.

Where is Debs?

I wonder if makescake had her baby yet?

Parofleurmapu · 15/05/2008 11:08

Debs is on hols, at her spa "fanjo pack" thingy!!!!

I was wondering about makescake too. Hope all is well, and we have our 2nd baby or 3rd i suppose as neenz had 2!!!

I have arnica cream with all talk of arnica can i use that?

I like this link for birth plan if i have to end up having cesearean i will make a plan even though its not common here but just to make sure they are aware of my views. interesting birth plan ideas

ktpie · 15/05/2008 11:20

Hi everyone,
It's taken me ages to catch up with you all, have just skimmed most of it so sorry if I have missed anything vital.
We had a lovely holiday, nice and relaxing. Had to try hard to keep out of the sun as much as possible and managed not to get burnt or get sunstroke which is pretty good for me! Have had really achy legs if I walk any distance so had to keep sitting down and taking it easy!

Today is my first proper day of maternity leave, DH has gone to work and I've spent the morning pottering about the house and catching up with you lot!

goingfor3 · 15/05/2008 11:34

needahand the NHS tests gives a 50% false negative result so your positive really is a positive. It is transient so hopefully your next test will show a negative, you can take oral antibiotics to try and clear it.

goingfor3 · 15/05/2008 11:37

Parofleurmapu that birth plan looks fab, it makes me feel irresponsible as at the beginging it talks about how important it is to have a brith plan and mine is only 5 words in total!!!

Parofleurmapu · 15/05/2008 11:49

dont worry mine was (and still is really only considering taking into account some of ideas incase all doesnt go naturally and i have to have cesearian etc)

Its short and sweet too!

  1. Go with the flow
  2. If i ask for pain relief i want whatever is availble and quickly!
  3. I dont want her ears pierced

But i saw it on another thread and thought it was good for those making a more complete plan

goingfor3 · 15/05/2008 11:52

lol about the ears peirced!!!! Do they do that automatically over there, I know in some countries the health visitors do do it!

aberdeenhiker · 15/05/2008 11:56

eek to the ear piercing! I would hate that for a newborn. I remember going to get mine done with my mom as a right-of-passage when I was ten - young enough I think!

Parofleurmapu · 15/05/2008 11:59

yep they all do it over here, years ago they did it when they whisked the baby off for cleaning but nowadays i think you have to request it but just in case!

i wont have hers done til she is old enough to look after them and put them in herself.
I dont even remember to put mine in !!!

Spanish friends have told me its so people know whether she is a boy or a girl!!!!!

Upsidedowncake · 15/05/2008 12:15

Yes, in south east Spain, my friend's twins had their ears pierced on birth, and they didn't even ask her for permission. What's wrong with wearing pink?

Parofleurmapu · 15/05/2008 12:19

Dont know!!!! and whats wrong with being asked is it a boy or a girl?! Many times i havent know so i just say oh its a lovely baby or just ask outright !

goingfor3 · 15/05/2008 12:24

It sometimes doesn't make a difference what you dress them in, dd1 was very girly looking and even in pink dresses we would get what a lovely boy comments from old ladies!

needahand · 15/05/2008 12:24

Thanks G43 I thought it was false positive not false negatives! Do you really think antibiotics would help? I have read somewhere they wouldn't? I am struggling to find relevant information too despite looking on the GBS site and others.

paro that birth plan link is fab. I will add what is missing in mine. Ear pearced for newborns? How odd. I had nightmare and infections after infections with mine when I was little.

Lucky Debs hey!

goingfor3 · 15/05/2008 12:26

needahand when I first teated positive my consultant gave me a course of antibiotics to try to clear it up, I still tested positive afterwards but I assume it works for some.

goingfor3 · 15/05/2008 12:27

tested not teated!!!!

josey · 15/05/2008 12:34

Afternoon

AH would love to help you out with nesting but to be honest Im really crap at it, DH is a fantastic house husband and keeps the house so clean I dont ever have much to do so I tend to do weird things, DS it was put up the xmas tree, think that might be a bit odd in May though!

G43 agree about the afterpains being nothing with 1st and worse than labour with 2nd it was like being in labour for 5extra days,MW has told me to expect them to be much worse this time GREAT!!

Upside still got 3 weeks to go

Paro is lying on your left not supposed to swing bubs round? the ear peircing is awful I wasnt aloud mine done till my 12th birthday.

Dylansmum, I feel so sorry for you that must have been agony, hope the mothers helper will make things better for you, Jackson Myles is a lovely name.

Got a very grumpy tummy today BHs are strong along with other annoying twinges...DH has been given his job details they have moved him to Sat now and he should be home Thurs/Friday I think I can cope with that...feeling a bit less nervous than his just going away mid week next week though I do have images of me birthing alone
