Come on over!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
hopefully · 14/05/2008 09:18

Oooh, went to DP's mother last night and she is gearing up to order our cameleon! I am v excited. Although we have had a last minute panic about whether to get dark grey with red uppers, or navy blue all over. i think I prefer the navy blue, but worry it is a bit boyish, and there's always the chance it'll turn out to be a girl (even though EVERYONE I meet is convinced it's a boy. I have no feelings either way).

mamamufin · 14/05/2008 09:31

Hopefully I have the same problem as you. All ready to order the bug but not sure of the coluor. Its such an important decission. I am having a boy so at least thats a little easier. I find the blue more of a royal blue (Is there a true navy one? ) I was also looking at the demin one. Also, looking for the best package deal as I want the whole lot, bag, car seat footmuff. I figure I want the lot if this is the last time I am going to give birth.

Such a busy week this week. Got Hr interview this afternoon. A little nervous as I just want to start hols and then maternity now as work is too much. Then I have to drive up north tonight for funeral and very emotional day tomorrow. I am not looking forward to it. I then have to drive home tommorow night as up for work again on friday. I am looking forward to the weekend just to rest.
Anyway will try and post later but if I disappear for a while you know why.

Take care guys xx

bogie · 14/05/2008 09:41

mamamufin I have the black and sand chameleon we bought it for ds and now we are having a girl we don't have to change the fabrics because there neutral we are just going to buy the buggy board and seat to fit it.

eandz some of the people on here can be quite rude you just have to ignore it.

We have been thinking of girls names I love Phoebe dp likes it but he prefers Abigail.

Hope everyones alright
Me

mustsleep · 14/05/2008 09:56

ooh i love bugaboo colours if i was having a girl i would def get the hot pink

i also love the sand colour, but love the dark rey and yellow, but i am not getting one (must keepo repeating this to myself)

have sold my luna on ebay that's the third pushchair sold this month i think maybe i should start up a business

bogie phoebe is a lovely name there is a little girl twop doors down from us called that and it's so sweet

mamamufin · 14/05/2008 10:04

Yes I would of gone for the pink myself. But nevermind, sand is a very good option thanks. bogie does it get dirty easily being a light colour. Also I have seen the buggy board, but not a seat. Is it suitable for a 3 year old? getting quite excited now. I really like the name phoebe too . mustsleep you must be officially a pramoholic! x

bogie · 14/05/2008 10:10

The sand doesn't get as dirty as you would expect but it is so easy to wash the covers.
This is the seat cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=330233390995
That one has ended but every now and again they come up on ebay.

mustsleep · 14/05/2008 10:11

i know it's like an illness i don't think i would be that bad if we had some sort of baby shop outlet near us and we could drive, i have to order them to try them out iykwim, although sometimes youdon;t get to have a proper play in the shop anyway

thinking that the streety should it it no as it;s the perfectest sounding one so far and ticks neary all the boxes... reclines, comes with carseat, comes with footmuff (although it's black so will be getting a nice fleecy blue one), seat rearfaces and forward faces, is light and folds in one piece, folds and unfolds onehanded (apparently), is very similar to bugaboo bee but half the price inc carseat, has one bar handle so can push with one had etc etc

hope all the above is true and that it comes today god i am sooo sad

really need to get dd's fringe cut as it's getting on my nerves but can't go out anywhere as i appear to have misplaced my cash card somewhere, and i don't think i'm brave enough to cut it myself

mustsleep · 14/05/2008 10:16

ooh for all bugaboo buyers i saw like wedge cushion tingy on ebay a few weeks ago that you can use in any of those bucket shaped seats for when your lo is wanting to see out of the carry cot but still too young to sit up

thought it was a really good idea

slinkiemalinki · 14/05/2008 10:18

I've got a dark grey Bug Cam with... er... red hood for winter, sand for summer and just ordered a set of blue fleeces before they run out, to give it an overhaul when the little lad comes along!
I much prefer the fleeces to the new canvas hoods myself - far comfier and it really is great quality. I used to worry before #1 that it would be damaged in the rain but have learnt through experience that (a) it won't and (b) you put the cover on anyway.
Still undecided if I need a double, but definitely getting a buggy board and maybe one of those seats that fits it too.

slinkiemalinki · 14/05/2008 10:20

I second that about fleeces being easy to wash - I wash mine on 30, handwash/woollens setting and they look like new every time. Same for footmuff.

DebitheScot · 14/05/2008 10:29

Can't believe how mean downright nasty some people are on mn sometimes. A few of those posters (only a minority but still shocking) were horrid to you eandz. Sounds like you are going through an awful situation and the last thing you need is people to question your factual accuracy. (although I can see that some people on mn have got very synical over everything that gets posted because unfortunatly some people are nasty and do make up stories that then doesn't help people like you who want and need advice)

digitalgirl · 14/05/2008 10:54

not so sunny today but perhaps that means my feet will return to their normal size !

eandz I've just read your thread about your family and it sounds like you've reached a good conclusion. ignoring the sceptical posters, it seems you struck a chord with the MN'ers who have had control issues with their own parents, so no doubt some of their advice was more reflective of themselves. I think MN is great for canvassing a wide range of opinion and even finding support for our problems, I hope its not put you off posting new threads in future.

pidge thanks! did you try any other carriers or just the wilkinet? I'm wondering if it would be more comfortable than a baby bjorn, but less stifling than a big wraparound.

Got a MW appt in an hour, I think this is the one where I get my MatB1 form, so hopefully can start the process of applying for MA and stuff.

Did anyone do NHS classes AND NCT classes? Wondering if it's worth doing both.

hopefully · 14/05/2008 10:54

eandz I can't believe people thought you were a troll! Suppose you could have sent them over here to prove you were real, but probably best just to ignore it. At least you got some good advice before everyone decided you were imagining yourself...

Slinki you have now confused me. I was all set to go for the canvas, but you say the fleece is good on the bugaboo. Any pros and cons of each?

I still haven't decided on the colour though. How will I ever pick? The navy looks quite dark on the website (there is a paler blue as well), but I haven't seen it in real life - has anyone seen it? Oh, the decisions!!

mustsleep · 14/05/2008 10:57

digitalgirl let me know how youget on with MA as i need to apply for it myself but don't have enough wage slips yet so will have to wait until june before i can claim, but would have to wait anyway as need the form from work to include with app saying that thy cannot ay me smp as i don't earn enough

can't really see why it matters how much you earn as they only pay you what you earn through MA anyway and it all comes from the same place

eandz · 14/05/2008 11:14

as far as my family situation is going, it's all been sorted. thank goodness! but re the thread...but then again I didn't want to ask a close friend about something I'm not really ready to share and since i don't know any pregnant/mommies in person besides mom and mil figured i'd ask on here. so thanks guys for the support

so slings-- i've seen a lot, but i like the look of the fabric wrappy ones that i'd use in africa if i was in africa? i'm kinda liking the hippy mommy thing till i lose the pregnancy fat.

also..can someone tell me what the footmuff would be used for? or is it just that, to keep his little feet warm?

i still haven't gone in to actually try out the buggies..i guess i'll have to over the weekend.

mustsleep · 14/05/2008 11:19

you would use the footmuff with yor buggy to keep him warm and cosy esp as it gets to jan feb weather

Sunshinemummy · 14/05/2008 11:44

I have the green fabric on my Bug so neutral. I've never tried washing it and the hood is covered in banana from shoving down there when DS doesn't want to finish it. Will have a go this weekend. Really excited about turning it back into a carry cot, even though I've got the P&T with cocoon which may take over!

DG I did both classes. I found the NCT ones most useful and comprehensive (although they have an obvious bias towards the natural in terms of birth, drugs, nappies and feeding). DP came along to those and also found them really useful (although he was a bit peeved to be the only man who came along to the breast feeding workshop!). They were also great for meeting local people and we spent the whole of our maternity leave together. I'm also still really good mates (as is DS) with one mum and baby we met and she moved into the same area as us last year.

The NHS ones merely reiterated a lot of the information from the NCT ones, but were useful as they have hospital specific info, for example at St Thomas's they don't offer Pethidine as a pain relief option. They also had a life size picture of a placenta, which is a bi of a shocker as it's huge! The other good thing about them was the hospital tour was straight after, so DP came along for that bit and we got to see the Home from Home and Birth Centre. As the class is free it's probably worth going along regardless.

kirstygem · 14/05/2008 11:50

Can anyone recommend where i can get a reasonble priced dress for a graduation in June and a wedding in July. Have seen a gorgeous pink Isabelle Oliver one but its £100+ and dont really want to spend that much if I can help it.

DebitheScot · 14/05/2008 12:17

kirstygem I saw 2 really nice ones in JoJo the other day. One is on the website(the long charcoal grey one) and the other isn't. I was annoyed that they hadn't been in when I was looking a month ago when I needed a dress for 2 weddings. I now only need one for 1 wedding (the dress I eventually got isn't smart enough for 2nd wedding as its my brothers) but am recuctant to spend £60 or £70 for a dress I'll only wear once. The other one I liked was a similar colour to that grey one but knee length and had little beads on the neckline.

DebitheScot · 14/05/2008 12:23

has anyone else found that some maternity wear was clearly not designed by someone who has had children? I keep trying on tops with necklines that are too low for maternity bras. Also been trying to get pjs but everywhere only seems to have long legs and/or long sleeves. Where are all the summer maternity pjs? I like shorts and vest tops and a bigger size doesn't really work as if the bottoms sit below the bump they fall off and the top isn't long enough.

lollipopmother · 14/05/2008 12:33

Kirstygem There are some really nice ones on ebay at the moment, i've been keeping my eye on a couple in case I end up going to a wedding we've been invited to in August. Don't be tempted to get a normal dress in a size larger, I've tried on SO many and they are all totally awful! Are you looking for something like this?

Mustsleep Dominic is a nice name, it's my partners name actually, but it's got the opportunity of shortening to Dom or Doms or even Nick. Obviously I'm biased though!

You ladies got me really worried that I should be buying a bugaboo, I couldn't even remember looking at them so I thought I must have missed it, but actually they don't do anything for me at all, I'm happy with my choice of the Mamas & Papas 8-in-1 Travel System, it comes with a carseat, a stand so you can use the pram as a crib, the pram lies flat and also as a pushchair etc etc. It's expensive but once you've figured in all the things it can do I think it's pretty standard. I am getting this one. I have totally and utterly fallen in love with it, the polka dots are lush and it's so light-weight. Plus to collapse the chair you press 2 buttons and it collapses in the blink of an eye, it's awesome!

lollipopmother · 14/05/2008 12:38

Oh, and my DP is desparate to get a sling! It's going to be hilarious, he's a big man. He wants one so that the baby is on his front, I just can't keep myself from smiling just at the thought, he's going to look like a big koala bear, it'll be great I can't wait for the photo op!

mama2bee · 14/05/2008 12:40

Hi everyone, I'm back after a week off and still haven't caught up with all the posts yet! Had my scan yesterday, totally amazing (especially for a first timer didn't find out the sex though, thought we'd have a surprise first time around. Feel like I can really think about buying stuff now!

mamamufin · 14/05/2008 12:45

Gosh eandz there are some really mean people on that thread you started. Stick with us we know your not a trollop. I am so glad we are all so lovely on our special thread .
That bug seat is wonderful, i am defo going to get one. I was worried as ds still gets tired sometimes but not enough to warrent a double pram. I like your choice of pram lolli loving the dots.
getting nervous, its my meeting in 45 mins. Chat later x

lollipopmother · 14/05/2008 12:48

Congrats that your scan when well Mama2bee, it's totally mindblowing seeing the baby like that. Both times I've felt totally in awe and I always nearly cry when I hear the heartbeat.

I've just found that Mamas & Papas has got a sale on some bits of maternity and also baby wear, there's only a couple of items but you might like to take a look anyway, the prices are really reasonable (that's the first and last time I'll ever be saying that about M&Ps!!!) look here if you don't believe me!
