What is this on my sons head???

Mumof2expecting3rd · 28/11/2024 22:35

Bit of a back story a few weeks ago my son got really dry skin on his eyebrows he seems to rub it a lot he’s only 3 months old so I wouldn’t say he’s itching it as such cause I would imagine he wouldn’t know how to itch just yet! But the he got these circle patches on his forehead the biggest one appeared first and then the other 2 days later, after googling to my horror ring worm came up and I panicked and got him a doctors appointment went in there saying I thought he had either ringworm or eczema the doctor disagreed on both and said it was basically baby acne he did use a medical name for this Erythema toxicum neonatorum
so as I’ve got home I’ve googled it and I’ll be honest I really don’t think that’s what my DS has. So while I’m waiting for him yet another appointment I thought I’d come in here for some other opinions! I’ll attach some pictures below!
May I add I have 2 other children in the house and none of them are presenting any symptoms, neither are me or my partner.

Definitely doesn't look like baby acne. That looked more like white head spots kind of like big milk spots when dd had it.

It looks very like psoriasis patches.

What have you been using to was his face and hair? It's possibly too strong and he is having a sensitivity reaction

TiredEyesToday · 28/11/2024 22:38

I’ll be honest… my first two thoughts were eczema or ringworm. I’d say eczema is most likely. See what the GP says when you go back, but there are loads of great natural products out there if it is eczema.

LoafofSellotape · 28/11/2024 22:38

Have you been using baby shampoo/ soap? Often you have then stop and use just water.

Alifemadelessordinary · 28/11/2024 22:44

How is he in himself OP?
Any sign of little blisters?

That first picture is very cute! Looks like he's just opened the front facing camera on himself.

Noodlesnotstrudels · 28/11/2024 22:46

How often are you bathing him? I'd also cut that right back until you work out what the issue is. DD2 has recently been in a research study about eczema and we were told not to bathe any more frequently than once a week unless absolutely necessary.

ibe · 29/11/2024 01:08

It looks like ringworm to me.

Enough4me · 29/11/2024 01:14

Looks like eczema. Can you reduce washing so it's warm water only when needed, face cloths with warm water straight in machine (single use) rather than wipes/soap? A pharmacist may have advice and be quicker to see.

Looks like Seborrhoeic dermatitis to me.

But I'm a random Mumsnetter and not a healthcare professional.

Go back to the GP but I would mention SB as a possibility.

My son had eczema as a baby, it looked exactly like this. It was much better with cream from the GP and disappeared completely as he grew

ToBeOrNotToBee · 29/11/2024 01:23

It looks like my childhood eczema

It's not seb derm, there's no scales. It looks like ringworm, eczema or psoriasis. Definitely not baby acne - which clearly looks like spots which this does not.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 29/11/2024 03:58

I'm not a medic but my DS had similar and it was eczema. Regular use of emollient helped (we used epaderm but others are available). He also had dietary intolerances including to cow's milk protein, and the eczema finally cleared up when we got on top of those.

LunaTheCat · 29/11/2024 04:24

Seborrhoeic Dermatitis.

Is it possible to get a second opinion rather than see the same doctor?

Mumof2expecting3rd · 29/11/2024 09:23

Thank you for your replies, they were very helpful I’ve managed to get him another appointment today with a different doctor. I knew straight away that it wasn’t baby acne. I’m definitely leaning towards the ezcema or ringworm! He’s absolutely fine in him self, been a bit marshy due to cutting 2 teeth at just 3 months old! Will update after his appointment this morning.

Just a quick update for you guys! I took him to the doctors for the second opinion in the appointment was a different doctor and a pharmacist, they took a look at little one and said it’s definitely not baby acne and it’s either eczema or ringworm, he went on to say that people with eczema are more prone to getting ringworm so he wants to rule out ringworm before proceeding with eczema treatment. We was prescribed Daktarin cream to apply twice daily for 7 days and if it don’t clear up we have to take him back, so little boy had his first lot on last night before he went to bed and when he woke up this morning it’s was LOADS worse hes had some more on this morning and again its even worse, it looks like it’s got yellow scabs now so clearly been weeping, it feels so much more scalier than before too! Look at the pictures already added to this post and I’ll post new pictures with this comment and you’ll clearly see that it’s got worse I guess my question is, is this normal can treatment make ringworm
worse before it gets better? I’m panicking it looks so sore and aggravated bless him!

I think it looks like eczema!

mrstumbler · 30/11/2024 14:39

Eczema does weep and it can get infected

BibbityBobbityToo · 30/11/2024 14:41

That looks like psoriasis to me.

MissMoneyFairy · 30/11/2024 14:43

Poor wee soul, could it be impetigo

Enough4me · 01/12/2024 00:24

Can you send the photos to your GP? (Online consultation options or email?). If the treatment is making it worse I'd want another opinion again.

Enough4me · 01/12/2024 00:31

Having a look online, antifungal cream should help kill ringworm and not make eczema worse. While corticosteroids for eczema could make ringworm worse.

Having used steroids on eczema myself as a teen and adult is is strong stuff, thins skin, is absorbed, short term use only. But does work if needed.

Onlyvisiting · 01/12/2024 00:33

I don't think it looks quite like ringworm (had it as a child from livestock and seen it on animals) as what I have seen has a more distinct ring around it, but of course I might be wrong, baby skin is not quite like a calf!
My inexpert money is on eczema, but I'd stop using the cream until you've spoken to the Dr again, looks to me like it's irritating whatever skin condition he has.
I've do remember the treatment stinging like hell when I was small, but I'd be surprised if looking that much worse is normal.

Daijoubudesu · 01/12/2024 00:40

I had a patch of eczema that everyone thought was ringworm. Weeks of going to and fro it turned out to be eczema.

Mumof2expecting3rd · 02/12/2024 12:19

Just an update, after this post I covered the area in Sudacream, which seemed to help, (I’ll attach pictures) i have continued to use the daktarin cream also! After using the sudacream it looked so much better but then upon using the daktarin cream
to my horror it looks like its spread, its so red and scaly, it looks so dry. I’m not sure if that’s what ringworm treatment does to ringworm ? Does it dry it out ? I’ll attach pictures. 1st 2 pictures are after I covered the whole area in sudacream
pictires 3,4&5 are this morning after applying the cream last night! I’m at a loss I honestly don’t know what to do, I’ve called the doctors again today and there aren’t any appointments left, all I was advised is they would pass a message to my doctor!
