isaidno · 08/05/2008 07:32

disneystar - hope it all is fine. It might just be that your baby is too big to do big movements now.

Here's hoping for another sunny day

TJuice · 08/05/2008 07:42

disney - i have been worrying since yesterday too as she has slowed down a bit. i have a fetal doppler and the hb was fine yesterday and she did give it a big kick but its definitely much less movement than last week. prolly because she is getting humungous.
but she used to wake me up in the morning, spinning and kicking and this morning i had to drink water, eat some biscuits, poke around and play music until she started moving (poor thing - she will punish me when she comes out!)

i have a midwive appointment tomorrow and if i were you, i would get seen too, especially if your baby remains a bit quiet today. i read in one of my books that you should trust your instincts and reassure yourself in this situation . . .

CilC · 08/05/2008 08:23

Disney - I hope there has been more movement today for you. My DS has also slowed down a lot, but my experience is you should always check these things out! Cold drinks seem to help, but have not felt him this morning.

In the past I have used baby listening devices at spas and hotels and never given them a second thought. We have booked a week at Bedruthen Steps in Cornwall which offers baby sitting and baby listening...in light of the Maddy situation etc. I am now not so sure about baby listening...
Mummypig - is the hotel small enough that if you are having a meal you will be close to your room?

Hmmm so many more things to worry about when you are a parent...

tafftaff · 08/05/2008 08:40

Morning all,

Wow, so much to catch up on. Am super of all those on maternity leave. However, enjoy the glorious weather and the soleros! I work from home so get to pretend I am on mat leave every now and then and go for a stroll/sit in the garden. I've bought a 10m ethernet cable so could always set up office in the garden and still access MN!

I've been having BH's for the past two weeks. Fortunately, they don't hurt but it is really bizarre feeling and watching your tummy go hard. Weirdly, makes me feel really toned even if it is just for a minute!

DP and I went to our first antenatal class this week and I must say, after all the warnings from other parents that it would be dull, it was brilliant. The midwife holding it was soooooo funny! She kept taking the piss out of the Dads and then shaking her head and sucking the air through her teeth when she mentioned not having any pain relief!!!

I love this thread, I've had so many top tips from you all. Deffo going to stock up on mat pads, breast pads, raspberry leaf tea and soleros. The latter obviously being essential for any pregnancy!

Anyway, I hope all of you that have been feeling unwell are starting to feel better now that the sun has come out.

x

JODIEhavingababy · 08/05/2008 11:41

Morning everyone,

Hope the sun is shining where you are, isn't it wonderful!!!

Well you have all been chatty! I can't keep up! all I remember is Solero's and Disney saying she's not felt much movement. I hope you are OK today Disney, I hope it's just the fact that that there isn't much room to manouver in your tummy any more (isn't your baby a big one?) and it's not serious....

All this talk about Mat Leave had got me thinking. Mines due to start tomorrow but I'd not heard anything from te Tax Office, so I double checked and I should be starting to get paid about the 19th, so only a week ish left for me.... Hope the weather stays nice!

If I've forgotten anything important I'm sorry, but I hope you are all well, and monkey24 if you are lurking somewhere, I'm thinking of you and I hope you and your baby are ok.....

sweetkitty · 08/05/2008 12:02

hi all have been up since 4.30am couldn't get back to sleep, kept thinking about prams and labour and doulas and all sorts. Have made a decision I am not getting a P&T now few reasons:

  • DD2 will be 2 1/2 she's a big girl and will bounce around a lot on DD3 in the back, plus will her head fit under the hood?
  • Not overly keen on where the baby lies at first in the P&T as well
  • it's £400 fo something I am not overly keen on

Have decided I am going to get a cheapie tandem and another single and have both in the car, we don't do that much walking more drive then get out and walk IYSWIM? Think I will get a Cosatto Duet Lite I know it's not amazing but for the amount of time I will actually be using it I think I can put up with it. Will then get a good single with a buggy board. DP will be delighted when I tell him.

Have also been thinking about doulas, I know ti's a lot of money but I do think it would be worth it as I have been so stressing about going into labour with the other two about, if I had a doula it would free DP up a bit to deal with the DDs and also the support in the first few weeks would be lovely.

So thats me. Hope everyone else is doing OK and enjoying the sun we certainly are.

Peanut73 · 08/05/2008 12:13

SK - I think a doula is a great idea. Especially as their role is to be there solely for you and your welfare - how divine!

Know what you mean re being up all night - I was lying there wondering if the new changing table was actually going to fit in the bedroom next to the chest of drawers...

Seems much quieter on here today.

Going to Holland & Barrett today to buy raspberry leaf tea!

In my boredom last night sitting around home while DH was out boozing I bought a Cath Kidston overnight bag and toiletries bag online for hospital. I am looking forward to filling it up with all the various bits and pieces. LO is moving into all sorts of painful positions - last night I was in agony! I suddenly thought if something happened and LO decided it was time to come out I should have something prepared. Or am I tempting fate?!

Hope everyone is well.

Mummywannabe · 08/05/2008 12:13

Hi all

Haven't read all the posts yet will do that tonight as supposed to be working!

Had another blood test today to check platelet level and see whether consultant appointment is necessary.

Had protein in urine yesterday at appointment, only a trace so i guess i shouldn't be too worried. A good friend recommended i drink more as hot weather coupled with not enough fluid could have affected this.

Cot arriving tommorrow and carpet for babies room going in tonight! So come saturday nursery will look like one and i can start to sort out bits! Very excited.

Right off to do some work and will read all the other posts later. Might sneak in a magnum between now and then

EEC · 08/05/2008 12:18

Isaidno ? hilarious!

I?m another big leaker (not yet though) and need to sleep on a towel for months.
Mummywannabe - I had a trace of protein last time too, but mw said it waqs common and was not at all concerned.

Hope you have been reassured today Disney. How are things at the moment? Better I hope.

I've just eaten a FAB icecream. Childish I knw, but had to have one.

JODIEhavingababy · 08/05/2008 12:25

MMMM Fab icecream!!! Yummy

I had traces of protein in my wee in the latter stages with DS and they weren't overly concerned about it until my swelling went out of control, which is when they Hospitalised me for 3 days (at 37 weeks), just for monitoring and once I stopped and rested I was fine, so after that I did absolutaly nothing!!! Fat chance of that this time round! All you first time mummies please take the opportunity to put your feet up! It will be the last time you ever do!

RUMPEL · 08/05/2008 12:26

Hi All,

You chatty lot!

DISNEY - hope all is well and you MONKEY24 and LAZYHIPPO and POLEDRA!!

RE raspberry leaf tea - I drank it, don't mind the taste but my labour was bloody awful so just go in with an open mind. I always found I got strong BH after drinking it though - doing what it is supposed to I suppose.

I am currently enjoying Mackies ice cream oysters as a cooler.

I love Burt's Bees stuff for baby and Weleda. Also Smellie Ellie nappy cream from perfectlyhappypeople.co.uk is good - although I don't use nappy cream that much. I also use the Little Me range form Boots and go through alot of that as I give DD a massage very night after her bath.

was too hot to sleep last night and DD has a horid cold so am quite tired today but the weather is FAB again so will get out in the garden when she awakens anad after lunch.

Re Boobies - I am usually a 34C, although went down to B after bf DD but am now at 38DD. I don't leak during pg - not so far anyway and only leaked a little after birth - I have got a box of pads and some left form DD.

Really must start getting stuff for my hospital bag and packing it. I still have maternity pads form last time as I didn't really need them that much but am assuming you will need a lot? God I detest that feeling when you have a period and stand up and feel it all going whoosh - dreading the bleeding thing - hate the smell too

Am 30 weeks now - not seeing MW until 20th May and haven't seen her since 16 weeks!

Lots of STRONG movements here.

SWEETKITTY - at you with the you went over! I am quite positive I won't Arggg!!!! I will be jumping on the neighbours trampoling and getting acupuncture to bring it on tee hee!

Weight gain so far - 1stone 6lbs.
Take care allxxx

Heffa · 08/05/2008 12:50

Glad to know I'm not the only one starting to pack hospital bag - my sister was shocked that I was bothering already.

Is it true that not drinking enough water in the heat can cause protein in your urine?

The shop we ordered the buggy from phoned to say it was in (along with the car seat) and that we could go and collect it if we wanted. I'm quite tempted because we have the space and I want to get used to using it before baby comes but my mother keeps worrying about the superstitious thing. Has anyone else got theirs at home already?

Baby was giving me such a kicking yesterday, I swear I could actually feel feet or hands punching one of my internal organs.

Any news Disney? I hope everything's OK.

JODIEhavingababy · 08/05/2008 13:03

Heffa - My mum was the supersticious one and she kept the pram at her house and she bought it to the hospital when DS was born!!! we kept the car seat at home though... But this time we've already got and using the pram, so I don't know what that means!!!!

I was walking about yesterday and I felt as though baby had an arm or leg or something stuck down my pelvis, coz it felt like there was 'something in the way' IYKWIM??? So I've got my suitcase now and will start packing tonight!!! well atleast start making a list!

Peanut73 · 08/05/2008 13:25

I have my brand new buggy sitting next to the front door and have even taken it for a test drive to the end of the road and back!

We even have the moses basket made up in our room - no room to be superstitious here!

minipinkscottish · 08/05/2008 14:03

My mum was very superstitious and kept my first pram at her house until after the birth. I am spoiled and have had a new pram each time and they have all been kept at mums but I have brought them here before the birth. This time we are not getting new pram as last one got hardly any use but I am looking for a double for ds and new LO. My mum has moses basket at her house though and is giving it another makeover - it was mine, my brother's, my 5 and brother's 2....of course it has had a new matress each time....it is gorgeous!!

Disney - hope all is okay....let us know soon xx

OP posts:
JODIEhavingababy · 08/05/2008 14:12

We are all starting to get very chatty, heaven knows what it will be like when everyone's on Mat leave!!!! Just realised we are only a week and a half into our new thread and it's half full already!!!!!

Heffa · 08/05/2008 14:17

Good to know it's not just my mum then! I might pick it up and leave it at hers. We already have the cot and moses basket made up though, along with loads of other bits in the nursery so it seems a bit mad.

Minipinkscottish - how lovely to have the moses basket handed down! We only have the christening dress - we also have the top tier of our wedding cake for the christening but it looks a bit dodgy tbh. I don't remember it being terribly nice either...

isaidno · 08/05/2008 14:22

No superstition here. I have everything set up and ready. My new buggy is still in the box because it is pink and I want to double check for a willy at my 34 week scan! Or I'll have to swap it for blue!

As for family heirlooms I have a wooden crib which was DH's!

JODIEhavingababy · 08/05/2008 14:26

No heirlooms here It would have been nice!

We used the top tier of our wedding cake for DS's christening, it was 4 years old. The Cake maker just used what she could and it was OK... It was more for the thought not for the consumption, we also had a lively sponge one too....

JODIEhavingababy · 08/05/2008 14:26

Oops, meant a lovely one not a lively one!! That would have been funny!!!!!

jocesar · 08/05/2008 14:31

Beautiful sunny day in Dorset too but unfortunately am working so cannot enjoy it properly. DH has a day off work and has gone spear fishing .

EEC- Fabs are great- you've just reminded me!
I wasn't going to pack my bag until 36 weeks- is that too late? Statistically, how many of us do you think will pop b4 our due dates?

I've moaned b4 about running my own business so not really having the option of much maternity leave but just for interest- what will all you 1st timers do? I feel that 6 wks at home waiting might be fairly frustrating especially as all my normal hobbies are sporty and I hate day time TV!

isaidno · 08/05/2008 14:36

just had my first cup of raspberry leaf tea and it tastes nicer than I remembered!

Jocesar - you are unlikely to need your bag before 36 weeks, but if you do it might be an emergency! I have all the stuff I need (more or less) chucked in a bag - just in case!

mummypig · 08/05/2008 15:05

hello again

well some friends of mine had their first baby 6 weeks early and I was talking to a woman yesterday who had her first 10 weeks early so I don't think there's any harm in packing a hospital bag now.

CliC I haven't been to Bedruthan myself so I'm not sure how close the rooms are, sorry.

Sweetkitty I refused to get a double pram when ds2 was born and ds1 was only 2y3m but he just got used to walking around a lot. We did have some times when I had to carry ds2 and stick the older one in the pram but I suspect that helped me to lose my pregnancy weight even if it did mean the spd carried on for a while. A cheap double buggy for a bit sounds like a good compromise.

And I am hoping the doula will be well worth it, for me, as I have been kind of dreading the summer hols with two active boys and a new baby. It did take a while to find one though as lots of them near me have school age kids and aren't available in the holidays.

Rumpel I had forgotten about the Little Me range. They do some lovely stuff and it always seemed fine with ds1. In fact I've been wondering what to send my friends who had the premature baby and a gift from that range might be a good idea.

I found out where our mouse visitors have been coming from! Our neighbours have a wooden box in the garden they stored their seeds in, and they found a mouse nest inside and the mice have eaten the seeds. So at least we don't have a nest under our floorboards, but it does mean we might have repeat visits until our neighbours get their mice sorted out.

Almost time to collect the boys, doesn't the afternoon go fast? Off to the physio tomorrow afternoon about the spd so will report back if I find out anything useful that hasn't been mentioned before.

Minkus · 08/05/2008 15:59

Hello everyone. Just a quick post for a whine- I'm so hot I don't know what to do with myself, can't sit in the garden cos I burn really easily even with high spf on (reddish hair and transluscent skin!) and inside isn't much better. Same yesterday, eventually ran a cool bath and sat in that for an hour, fell asleep oops. Might take a little nap on the bed (ds at nursery today and I have the afternoon off work as I had my hair done) as its a bit cooler in there, will take big fan from conservatory up too. Good opportunity to get out the ice cream though- what's with all this healthy solero business! A white choc Magnum hit the spot nicely earlier on here

CilC · 08/05/2008 16:02

Duh sorry mummypig you did say that!

I was given as part of maternity leaving present 4 years ago a basket of goodies including J&J powder, cream, shampoos etc. Have used the shampoo (took over 2 years and DD has soooo much hair) but the rest is still sitting unopened in the roof. They seem to always have a lot of it for sale but who ever actually uses it? I suppose it is something all of us first timers purchase thinking we will need it that then just sits there....

Little Me range - will look it up.

Well I have wasted a day! Today DD in Nursery all day and I did a few errands this morning and then this afternoon I thought I might just sit down and read for about half an hour as SPD kicked in from the little bit of walking I did...three hours later I wake up! Sheeesh is all I can say. I realise I may have needed it but to waste such a wonderful day on the only day I have all to myself!

So have told DH we have to have a barbie (BBQ) tonight so I feel like I can make a bit more of the day. Am off to make salads...

I hope everyone is well. May also look up Doulas as apart from DH I am having absolutely no one to help me out during birth and the days following. No family lives by (all in Oz) and most of my NCT friends live where we used to live. The rest of friends have not had children. I am sure I will cope but some extra support would be fab!
