Hi

SK
Glad you are taken it easy, my two lo's are in the garden playing away. thank god for nice weather..

Had a lovely day at the wedding, got home around 3.30 to an empty house as sister had dd's. It was a weird feeling.. Was so tired yesterday and again today.. but glad that it is out of the way! Birthday party today for my nephew and i have no cloths to wear, i am growing out of maternity cloths i reckon!!

minipinkscottish · 05/05/2008 16:01

gillythekid - so sorry to hear that you mum has been so negative about your home birth. When I had my first HB last time I think most people thought I was mad and that things could go wrong etc etc. However, I had a wonderful birth experience and better care and attention that I had in hospital with my first 4. Stick to your guns - take the advice of the MW and you will be great....it's what our bodies are made for and they do it even better in familiar surroundings!! maybe ask MW to speak to mum or ask MW for some good information to share with mum. Take care - thinking of you!! xxxxx

You've all been so lovely today, thank you all for your words of wisdom. When you have a strained relationship, you always think that everyone else's is perfect and that other peoples mums are supportive and encouraging, it's only when you put it out there that you realise that actually, there are a lot of mums who, for whatever reason are a bit, well, crap really. I'm soooooo lucky that my MIL is amazing and is so interested in the whole hypnobirth/homebirth path we've opted for and has nothing but positive things to say, she has no time for negativity and is filling me with confidence as quickly as my mother is knocking it down!
Thanks everyone, and may all of us with crap mums break the cycle and fill our sons and daughters with confidence and self belief and resist the temptation to constantly criticise!

pigleychez · 05/05/2008 18:53

Hope everyone had a good bank holiday.
Cant believe how quickly its gone though...still last day next thursday!!

Still loving the highchair but DH is still equally NOT loving the price.

Gilly- I can understand where your coming from. I love my mum to bits but sometimes she says things without realising that they are hurtful and upsetting.
Lately mum and I had a big heart to heart with plenty of tears from us both which cleared the air abit. Long story but my sister is currently preg with her first- same as me but mum seemed much more interested in her pregnancy and everytime i would mention something she would reply... well your sister..blah blah blah.
Left me feeling pretty left out and unloved. Hormones got the better of me one day and it all came flooding out. Since then she has been much better and has said its only as she knows my sister wont cope so well as i will and she already knows ill be a wonderful mummy. Which proves she can say nice things too!
Some things still make me cringe but generally i take it on the chin, knowing she loves me really and its just her way.

EEC- I really feel like a proper pregnant woman now! Wobbling along. Plus today my boobs have been leaking abit making it all feel abit too close for comfort.

Sweetkitty- Glad you have had a rest today. Hope you feel happier soon

Minnie- Glad you enjoyed the wedding

Im sooo glad the weather has been fab. I love the sunshine.
Early in pregnancy i bought some maternity 3/4 trousers and linen shorts from Mamma and pappas in their sale and they cost about £15 for the 2 so good bargin. Finally the weather has been nice enough to wear them!
Ive spent most of the day staining the teak table and chairs after being stuck in the shed all winter. Looks much nicer now and cant wait to start maternity leave to sit outside.
Oh dear- DH just pointed out that my back is abit red and i have strap marks from my top.

Plan to have a good long soak tonight and ply myself with bio oil and get DH to apply aftersun on my back.

mcchesers · 05/05/2008 19:18

Amen sister!
Gilly that is exactly the mantra that my DH and I have been reciting. "fill our sons and daughters with confidence and self belief and resist the temptation to constantly criticise!"
I totally understand where you are coming from. My MIL sounds more like your mum. My mom on the other hand, is very supportive and has been keeping me positive. This whole hormonal business can do a number on your head. Hang in there..your beautiful body is making you a beautiful baby

Kaz- I'm SOOO glad that you mentioned the mole thing. I've broken out all over my neck and back with little raised moles and my underarms have skin tags. Apparently it's quite common during pregnancy, but it's bugging me.

It is just gorgeous out here in Glasgow today. We've had the windows open and soaking up the sunshine. Actually warm!

Kaz1967 · 05/05/2008 19:35

It's nice to know that I am not the only one who is developing lumpy moles, part of me suspected it was something to do with pregnancy I think there is one on my hip too I can feel it but what with boobs and bump I have now lost sight of that part of my anatomy.

Do you know the strange thing about my Mum is she makes a great MiL She was the one my brother and SiL called out there when H had to go back into hospital and my bro could not take any more time off work no her Mum. Because Mum does not criticise or interfere wish she could be like that with me.

gillythekid · 05/05/2008 20:42

I'm bloody covered in 'moles' although when I saw the dermatologist, she said they're actually a type of wart and largely hormonal, don't know about you lot, but I prefer to think of myself as moley rather than warty. Lovely to be topping up my faded honeymoon tan with a bit of early summer colour though, feel so healthy apart from the wonky leg SPD business giving me fanjo pain! Mcchesers what a lovely thing to say, yes, my body is doing really well considering I've had endometriosis for nigh on 20 years and was told I'd never have a baby. A bit of cellulite on the thighs isn't the end of the world and if I have to breast feed this child till it's a teenager to get rid of the flab then so be it, although that could be awkward when they have their friends round.

TJuice · 05/05/2008 21:15

i found a little skin tag on my neck yesterday too! i was kind of picking at it then realised it may be a moley-wartey thing. grotesque!
can't believe what we have to endure sometimes . . .

i had a sausage sandwich and a smoothie for dinner and i am so so stuffed! feeling uncomfortable. also need a good basting with bio-oil!

gilly - you sound more positive - and i was laughing at you offering "bitty" to your teenagers!

sweetkitty · 05/05/2008 21:24

Oh now moles and skin tags is a new one on me as well and here I am on number 3 and still learn things

mcchesers - yes it has been a fantastic day hope thats not our one day of Summer this year.

pigley - when I was pregnant with DD1 my Mums BF's daughter was pregnant with twins so that was all I got, my Mum knew I was going for a scan and finding out the sex but about 2 days later she phoned me on my work mobile (unheard of) to tell me BF Mums daughter was having twin DSs and wasn't it great, when I said oh aren't you going to ask what I'm having she said oh I knew it was a girl. She has this thing that boys are better than girls although this pregnancy apparently she is telling everyone we don't care what we are having as we "had a little loss you know" I'm so glad my SIL isn't pregnant the same time as me she would be unbearable. I'm glad you cleared the air though and I think it's great cousins to grow up together. The DDs cousins are teenagers and whilst they are fantastic with them it would be good for them to have some playmates.

Am feeling a bit better now off to bed in a bit hopefully will get a decent nights sleep tonight. Shoulder/arm/neck still killing me but hopefully will ease off a bit by tomorrow. Am phoning GP and maternity physio tomorrow, I will go and see them this time.

DD3 (funny calling her that still) was quiet today probably as all my coughing had kept her awake but she's woke up and is going mad now.

Poledra · 05/05/2008 21:48

Gilly, you can and will break the patterns of your mother! My mum has done it, as her mother was very difficult and she was determined not to do it herself. Not that she's perfect, she still irritates me sometimes, but she's pretty good on the whole.
One word of warning on the bfing front - my body hangs onto some extra weight all the time I'm feeding, and only lets it go when I stop (so about 10 months after the birth!). It makes sense when you think about it - my body is making sure it keeps enough reserves to feed my baby no matter what happens. I know that for some people (like SK!) the weight just drops off, but I wanted to warn you that it can be different and not to get too disheartened about it later on. It does go in the end

sweetkitty · 05/05/2008 22:00

Poledra - for me I think it was the lifestyle change as well as the BFing that took the weight off, I wasn't working in a environment that made you taste lovely food every day anymore, I only ate when I was hungry and that was a big difference than my constant grazing at work. And of course once you have toddlers you never get a minute anyway.

Poledra · 05/05/2008 23:02

Mmmm - can I go and work where you used to work, SK?

CilC · 06/05/2008 07:36

Poledra so glad you mentioned that - I found I put on weight while bfing, (luckily I was so sick and did not put much on during pregnancy)and did not really lose it until I stopped. I had ante natal group friends who experienced the same...funny thing pregnancy, we all going through it so very differently!

TJuice · 06/05/2008 07:49

oh god, i hope i don't put on more weight after the birth - i feel like such a heifer. i was a little chunky before i got pg and i have a dream (should that be goal?) of getting down to 70 kilos by Xmas - but i am 88 kilos right now so that would involve actual dieting which i guess is a no-no when you breastfeed right??

my friend anna had her third child recently - she's 37. and she has had her best figure ever recently - really slim from breast feeding but with massive jacks. so unfair . . .i know that won't happen to me.

talking of mums and their legacies - i vow to NOT pass on my horrible weight obsession to my daughter. absolutely no way . . .

have to sing the praises of the neti pot today - have been waking up with a sore throat and sinus headache for about 10 days now and usually taking a paracetamol. but decided to do the salt water gargle and nose cleanse with neti pot and i swear its so good! although i feel like a weird hippy when i do it.

pigley - I LOVE that high chair - and funnily enough saw it in a Danish pregnancy magazine the same day you posted the link. its about £60 cheaper here for some reason - but can't you find it from an ebay dealer or something? its so cool.

i think i am going to get a stokke highchair as its norweigan and there are loads of second hand ones here in good nick . . .

sweetkitty · 06/05/2008 07:53

Morning everyone

Lovely day here again so will be spending most of it in the garden driving will still be hard so am going to wait until I need to take DD1 to nursery tomorrow. Had a better night last night, DDs were up about 3 times just and DP woke me a few times for my snoring Arm still sore though

poledra - sounds fab but we talked about food, ate food it was food constantly I worked for one of the major supermarkets btw seems like a lifetime away though.

I'm quite lax about weight haven't been on a diet since pre-DC and really don't have the time to think about it, I think as long as you eat healthy wehn pregnancy and BFing your body will keep what it needs for the baby, they get everything anyway don't they? Saying that this one is made of cheese and chocolate but it didn't do the other two any harm. I keep saying I need to do something about the jelly belly but I never do. I try to eat fruit when the DDs do but the junk food is always calling.

MINNIE1 · 06/05/2008 09:13

Morning ladies,

RE: I have one on my leg, had one with DD1 and it went just b4 birth so hoping this one will too..

Weather is sooooo nice, DD's going through so much cloths during the day due to be outside and up to all sorts. Great that i can wash cloths and put them on the line and not increasing my electricty bill!
Getting sky plus today highlight of my life !! how sad...

As for weight i do mind what goes on but not to worried as with 3 lo's i'm sure it will fall offi hope!

Libra1975 · 06/05/2008 09:32

Morning all, isn't it a lovely day outside, I am very of those of you who have started mat leave (is that anyone yet?)

I am hoping to take after SK re:weight after birth but thinking I am more likely to take after Poledra. I have put on about 2 stone so far but I was about 1 stone heavier than normal weight when I got pregnant so that's at least 3 stone to lose post baby. Oh well, I'll be home with nothing else to do I suppose

Is anyone else/has anyone else read Tracey Hogg The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer? Thoughts?

Also going back to the list thing, does anyone else find that lists made on the computer just aren't the same, even if you print it out. It needs to be paper and pen.

EEC · 06/05/2008 09:35

Got those moley skin tag things too - yuck. HAve gone extra freckly too. What wierd bodies we have. Do the skin flaps go afterwards or do you have to get them removed?

Another beautiful morning - Don't really want to sit in the sun though as am worried about all this pigment change and chloasma. (none of that yet but got it last two times)

At what ad=ge can or do you put a baby in a grobag? Mine used them but not at the beginning I think. I can't really remeber.

EEC · 06/05/2008 09:36

I mean at what age...

EEC · 06/05/2008 09:38

Lists definitely need to be with pen! They are beautiful, fluid things which need asterisks, ticks, order of importance etc and are constantly changing... Have just started mine for the day!

JODIEhavingababy · 06/05/2008 09:38

Morning

Lovely day here again today, managed to do 3 loads of washing and hang on line so far! It's great when we can do that isn't it! Is it just me, or does it smell better too when Air dryed?

DS at nursery so I'm (supposed to be) working! Will get on the phones in a min..

RE moles, That's a new one on me! Obviously quite common though! Now I've said that I'll have them popping up all over the place!

Gilly - Sorry to hear about your mum being horrid! It's not nice at the best of times, but esp. when you are in such a fragile emotional state being pregnant.

The 'weight debate' (like it! ) Still rages on! It took me nearly a year to lose my baby weight and an extra stone (I was over weight efore hand), then I went and got myself pregnant again! I've now put on 2 stone, so that's OK. I found that if I went for a walk for about an hour a day (which is also good for baba) and kept quite active generally, then it came off slowly but surely.. Then as soon as DS started crawling and getting into everything it just dropped off me! Don't get caught up by it, we are not all Victoria Beckham!

JODIEhavingababy · 06/05/2008 09:45

EEC, I think I put DS in one when he went in his cot at about 12 weeks, but I have seen smaller babies in them. I think my MIL bougt one as a present in new born size, as long as they fit I think it's OK...

Libra1975 · 06/05/2008 09:50

ohh I was looking at gro-bags last night (they are soo cute) I think the manufacturer recommends from 6 weeks but you can actually get them even for newborns.

Q. When can I first put my baby in a grobag® baby sleeping bag?
A. Our Young Baby Size grobag® baby sleeping bag can be used for a full-term, 10 lb baby from birth. However, if your baby weighs less than 10 lb at birth (as most babies do), we recommend you wait a short time, until your baby grows larger, or use our Newborn size that is suitable for babies weighing over 7 lbs.

sweetkitty · 06/05/2008 09:51

I feel quite about the weight thing I never do anything to lose it, it just seems to come off I know I'm a lucky cow but still have the untoned look and the old thighs are cellulite city now. Doesn't help when you have a super fit marathon running DP.

My plans are to sit in the back garden this afternoon and write some lists. Need to start getting organised. Well my afternoon will probably be spent breaking up fights, mending prams, getting juice etc

I so agree about the washing thing I actually think I have a washing fetish when it's a day like this I find things to wash. I have stripped the DDs beds this morning, all the blankets everything I can find. Oh and we could also wash the LOs things can you imagine a washing line of tiny baby clothes - heaven.

Re: sleeping bags I don't think we will need them to begin with as it will be summer, I have some cellular blankets one should be fine over the moses basket to start with or a shawl. Once the weather turns will need sleeping bags (I have 3 already) they are fab.

CilC · 06/05/2008 09:54

EEC my skin flaps settled down after pregnancy but had to get the one's on my neck removed. If you are planning on more children wait...I had mine removed and they have returned again.
I used to wrap DD from birth in a cocoon - she always scratched herself and woke herself up flinging her arms around. I then began using a bag from about 3 months. This was more to do with cold as she also used to fling blankets off.
My DD would not stay on her back, liked to sleep on her tummy with her bottom in the air. Grobag also help keep her flat on back.

Weight thing - you do go back to how you were (except for firm tummy skin), just not overnight. Also do not forget it is not just baby we are carrying but extra fluid, placenta etc.
I just mentioned that not everyone finds it falls off when bf. For most it does but not everyone. But then for those who it doesn't you will find when you do stop bf it does. TJuice - so glad to find someone else who uses kilograms!
A list must be pen and paper, it is soooo cathartic actually getting your pen and crossing off what you have achieved. For me it is all about the crossing off...

Have a great day!
