Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is enjoying a sunny bank holiday - Hope it lasts.

Ive spent the day pottering in the garden which was nice and even washed the car which was a task!

Tjuice- glad you managed to find a dress.

Libralady- have a fab holiday!

Any already mummys.... When do the NHS antenatal classes start?

JODIEhavingababy · 03/05/2008 23:39

Cilc - glad your OK. My DS slept through from 5 weeks too, and is and always has been a bit of an angel, (despite having a temper), so I'm expecting the devil incarnate this time

Pigley, my midwife is signing me up fpr mine at my next appt (32 weeks), no use going too soon, if you see yours before then, just double check with her!

My Davins McCall Pre and Post natal DVD came today, so I've just had my 'first round' with her. It's actually quite good. For those of you withn SPD, Davina had it too, so excersises gentle on the old pelvic area...

Tjiuce I for got to say earlier, I get stich really bad if I walk too far or too fast, really annoying as I was quite active before and this has hindered me somewhat.. I think it's just another thing to put on our lists of annoying things that happn when pregnant!

Anyway, goodnight all and fingers crossed that the weather is just as nice tomorrow!

Minkus · 03/05/2008 23:42

I've got my first one next Tuesday (will be 31 weeks)

Am doing them again as want to meet other mums in the area with newborns- most of my other mum friends have gone well past the tiny baby stage and it's always useful to have someone to say "oh god does yours do this too do you think it's normal???" - I am sure I've forgotten soooo much about weeny babies.

The classes are in the day this time round so I get time off work (yay!) but dh won't be able to come (boo)

Can't believe I am awake this late, helping dh out by googling cheats for GTA 4 on the playstation!

Kaz1967 · 04/05/2008 00:44

Our antenatal classes are a rolling 4 week programme. I meant to go to last Tuesdays antenatal class for this months but had a bad day on Tuesday an forgot Got to wait till the 27th May now half hope to go to them when I move just to meet local Mums but I really don't want to miss out on the bits on labour so going to go down here

Kaz1967 · 04/05/2008 00:55

8pm breakfast plus bar

Now I am flippin starving again

mummypig · 04/05/2008 00:58

hi i am still up too, should go to bed as ds1 has a party tomorrow and I need some energy, but saw a mouse running round our house earlier and have been worrying about it ever since. Dp and I have put 'humane' traps down but I can't stop feeling I ought to be cleaning the whole of our ground floor and removing anything that might be of remote interest to mice.

Kaz did the midwives tell you you had to wait until 27 May? Otherwise you could just turn up on this course having missed the first week. I seem to remember doing something like that when pg with ds1.

isaidno · 04/05/2008 07:18

Kaz - I'm always hungry!
I eat at least 2, usually 3 bowls of cereal a day. I can't cope if I am running late for lunch! I am always trying to think of what i can eat next!

CilC · 04/05/2008 08:13

My ante classes start on 2 June. Have not heard yet about my NCT classes.
I have joined every class I can as I went back to work after DD. I finished up at work when I found out I was pregnant and had made it passed 3 months. I just could not deal with all my symptoms and the job! Despite losing some mat pay have really enjoyed it...but now realise I have to try and meet a few Mums!
Can't imagine it will be same as the friends I made with DD as your first time is quite special, but hope to find a few Mums to do coffee with/chat and go to parks etc.
I have been waking up at night with hunger pains. Have also found breakfast bars quite good, but I do dream about fry ups!

sweetkitty · 04/05/2008 08:56

Morning everyone

Well I'm hoping that today is a better day then yesterday when I literally couldn't move all day and was coughing like mad so I'm all sore now. I was in bed last night crying with the pain it felt like my pelvis was on fire. I think the lesson learned is I really cannot walk very far at all right now. I get so frustrated as I'm usually a very active person who doesn't really sit down and when you see things that need doing and you can't do them it gets to you big time. Got MIL, SIL and neice coming up today for a visit.

Oh maybe I should have done some classes to meet some other Mums although I do have a lot of Mum friends but most of them have 3yo's + that are going to nursery this year, no one else seems to be having more babies theres one friend I thought might be joining me but I think she is just sticking with one.

CliC - ouch with the gall bladder that must be horrendous on top of everything else, why do we put ourselves through this? I know it will all be worth it but it seems such a way to go until the finishing line.

DP is off out running this morning and I'm going to nip in a shower and try and spruce myself up a bit, seriously need to do something about my scaly skin on my face.

EEC · 04/05/2008 09:36

I'm always hungry too. I often have a bowl of cereal just before lunch because I can't wait, then another snack before supper too (not usually healthy i have to say!)

Libra1975 · 04/05/2008 10:51

ok I must be the odd one out, I find my actually want for food has decreased (which is very odd for me) but my mood keeps peaking and falling during the day so I am trying to ensure I do eat regularly. I haven't put any weight on for about 2 weeks but then I have put on about 2 stone already!!!
Neck still hurting and have banished poor DH to the spare room for the last 2 nights so when I wake up I am not then kept awake by his snoring (doesn't usually bother me)

I started my NCT classes 2 weeks ago and it has been do nice to meet other mums to be especially as I don't know anyone in the area. As I am already doing pregnancy yoga, NCT and hypnobirthing I think I am going to skip NHS! However if you do want to meet new mums but are old timers at the labour thing I think NCT do mums and babes classes afterwards to meet new people, think it's about £30 a year to join NCT.

Mcchesers - I sleep on my right side as well, for some reason I can't breathe thru my nose sufficiently enough on my left and end up with a dry mouth and awake therefore asleep on my right is better for baby than awake on my left.

CilC - hope you are feeling better now.

TJuice - any photos of the outfit or is it bad luck!!

For all of you awake after midnight - how on earth do you do that?

For all of you who keep apologising for "me" posts, stop it. That is what this place is for support and the chance for the rest of us to know that we aren't the only ones going thru this.

My DH has gone to spend the day playing cricket therefore I am currently sitting here in dressing gown, watching I'd do anything, surfing the internet and sort of reading Secrets of the Baby Whisperer. Hurrah for me time.

Hope you are all having good long weekends

shortshafe · 04/05/2008 14:06

Hi all, just taken me ages to catch up!

Am having a lazy day today as have had lovely sickness bug for last 24 hrs and not been out of bed since Friday afternoon. Thankfully am feeling much better today, I've missed the nice weather though - it's tipping it down here today!

have been ROFL at pigley's photo - brilliant! Hope you found something a bit more suitable and demure Tjuice?!

about sleeping - wherever I can get comfy - sometimes on side with a pillow under the bump, sometimes propped up on my back, usually 63 different positions per hour!

I'm with Libra1975 on the food thing - don't fancy anything much at the min and whenever I start to eat something I get really full really quickly!

I'm measuring 2 weeks bigger than dates too -midwife not worried yet as they have growth spurts every now and then. I think I'm growing a monster though - dd was 9lb and I definately feel bigger this time around.

JODIE - thanks for the offer of the babyshow ticket, don't think I'm going to make it though as dd has been invited to a party that day - and dh has confiscated the credit card in anticipation!!!! No point going if I can't spend any pennies!

purplejennyrose · 04/05/2008 14:16

Hi all
Had manic week finishing off at work! The staff at school have bought me a really lovely changing bag!! - after me making clever plans with wash kit bags etc!! It's the one I would've bought if I could have afforded or justified it!! My friend who I work with knows me too well I think...I can't resist bags, love 'em, and dd is fast developing an obsession - was pushing her doll's buggy the other day with 5 different bags hanging off it and one on her shoulder...
this bag but in the 'Uptown' multi stripe.
Sweetkitty - much much sympathy - I can hardly walk at all now, and find it so frustrating - end up walking or doing something I shouldn't anyway and then really suffering for it. Hope your pain eases a little soon.
TJiuce - i did the perineal massage thing 1st time - but then had to be cut! It is supposed to be a good idea though.
Mummypig - I have a serola support belt from Applied Biomechanics website - the NHS don't supply them here so had to buy my own. It does help, though only in combination with rest and management. I think for this it can't make it worse to use a belt, as it is important to hold together and stabilise the pelvis. I got a narrow, across the hips belt, as physio said I may need it after birth (grr) and the wide maternity belts would be no use then! However, may well depend on what exactly is causing your pain, so ask physio for advice.

Kaz1967 · 04/05/2008 14:30

shortshafe I get full really quickly too I find I need to eat every 2-3 hours though

isaidno · 04/05/2008 16:23

nice bag Kaz - I like skiphop

LilyToTheB · 04/05/2008 16:39

Hi all,
I hope you're having a nice day. The weather's really horrid here, so just staying in chilling out with dp and watching movies etc, really nice

With regard to the perineal massage thing, it sounds like a good idea to me, and anything to prevent tearing. How soon are you supposed to start doing it?

I have another question for you all.. a friend has kindly lent me a moses basket, she had her baby in Jan & her's only slept in it for 8 weeks. Do I need to get a new mattress for it??

Kaz1967 · 04/05/2008 17:14

re peritoneal massage if you can no longer reach and have no partner to assist do you think a vibrator would help

isaidno · 04/05/2008 17:21

Lily - no the mattress will be fine. Cot mattresses should be new because an older baby makes a slight dent in it, which won't support the new baby properly. Moses / crib mattresses are fine to reuse as long as they are clean with no holes etc.

kaz - it has been suggested perineal massage is something your partner can help you with...

isaidno · 04/05/2008 17:21

and I suppose a bendy dildo would do if you're alone...

TJuice · 04/05/2008 17:22

my appetite is tailing off these days - get too uncomfortably full and just a bit - like my stomach is just under my boobs at the moment . . .

one thing i am really getting into is the daily smoothies though. i have them for breakfast and sometimes dinner. Frozen bananas, strawberries, kiwis (2), flax seed oil, flax seeds, bio-yoghurt, cinammon, honey - sometimes frozen berries. today did watermelon, grapes and kiwis. I swear that the two kiwis are key though - for keeping regular.

Kaz1967 · 04/05/2008 18:05

isaidno babies dad is in the US as far as I am aware don't think he could reach

TJuice I must be one of the few pregnant women that does not have a problem keeping regular regular codeine never caused constipation

min912 · 04/05/2008 19:23

Hello all!

Am getting serious change bag envy - DH suggested getting a new one and said 'how about you get a nice one this time' (thanks!) - have no idea where to start looking as I don't recall mothercare's range being that great and you can't really tell online..hmmm...

On the SPD front I am managing much better this time round than last, before I was crying with pain on the sofa unable to move. Obviously this time I know more about what to avoid etc. plus got a physio referral and after a patronising 80 mins of 'don't sit like this, sit like this' they finally gave me a proper support belt (none of this tubigrip nonsense) which I think is helping a lot. Mine is a Promedics one, I do feel like Doctor Octopus putting it on as it has three 'arms' each side to velcro together. Definitely ask for help if you are in doubt would be my advice as it takes a few weeks to be seen! I went to aqua natal last week and ok only 5 of us showed up, but 4 of us had SPD so I think it's probably more common than people think, perhaps just previously under-diagnosed.
(Can't believe Davina used to do those BB shows in heels when pg and standing up for so long if she had spd!!!)

Depending on where the baby is I am needing to pee badly and then finding not much coming out, plus then feeling like I really need to go 10mins later. Alternatively I am also getting quite loose BMs (sorry TMI) which can be fairly unpleasant, seems to have eased off a bit now that I have cut down on the bran flakes though!

Not having too bad a time at the mo generally although some days I am feeling desperate to get this one out and can't believe how much time there is to go. I am finding it reassuring that technically I could start my maternity leave next week.... plan is to keep going for another 8wks though. I am going to try to cut back a bit but it's difficult when you see clients one-to-one as it's me they have a relationship with so it's not like I can just pass them onto someone else.

Got two weddings to go to in the next 2/3 weeks so I am going to splash out on some 'proper' foundation from MAC or somewhere like that! Skin is blotchy/freckly so I need some help to not look like just stomach and nothing else.

JODIEhavingababy · 04/05/2008 20:11

Evening ladies..

Shortshafe Thats OK (about the ticket) I've not got much to spend either, but there are always such lovely things there I'm sure I'll find something!

Min912 I couldn't quite believe Davina either, But then you didn't see much of her standing up, she could have had a chair in between times? Brave lady!

I've found my appitite has reduced a little just recently, altough I'm still eating like a pig! Just abit less!

I've taken my wedding ring off today aswell but it's been so warm here the last couple of days I've started swelling! boo. Am going to the Reflexologist in the morning so hopefully he will help me with that, he usually does.

I had such a scare yesterday (Sorry if TMI, but have to share) I was on the toilet, and I honestly thought the baby was coming! I was going through all the different thngs I could do, DH was in Bath, 2 hours away and was probably drunk and DS was having a nap, due to wake up any minute, I kept thinking how long does a baby last on an umbinicle (sp?) cord before midwives get here???? Do I phone 999 or the hospital???? In the end it was just a big poo!

JODIEhavingababy · 04/05/2008 20:17

OMG I've just spotted a 'Due in Jan 2009' Thread!!!! It's nearly our turn!

Minkus · 04/05/2008 20:20

Hee hee Kaz yes I agree with isaidno any sort of, er, "adult massager" would help with the perineal oiling-up I'm sure

Sorry for all you folks still suffering, be it with SPD or other ailments. It really can be no fun sometimes this pregnancy malarkey.

LilytotheB think the current advice is to get a new mattress no matter how long the previous one was slept on- even when previous baby was an older sibling. But not sure if I'll be doing this anyway, Ikea have gone and blimmin well changed their sizing so I can't get a new cot mattress anyway grrr.

Well we've had a lovely day here, had some friends over with their two little ones. Went out for a nice lunch, walk by the river then back here for coffee and chat. Was great, very relaxing. Although it's so muggy here we had a tremendous thunder storm at 7am but it didn't clear the air and so all day it's been really sticky but overcast, I'm sat in front of a big fan at the moment trying to keep cool!

Wore some long boots (over leggings) today that have a chunky block heel and I forgot how much I missed my high heels. Normally never ever wear flats (so much so that dh thought I'd shrunk a few inches when I started showing a bump as I wore flats for the first time in aeons). So have been surfing for some shoes to lust after and motivate me to re-enter the world of the living after the baby is born! yum and indeed yum

Am getting quite a bit of rib pain at the moment, on my right hand side- guess this is what they call "rib flare"? When baby is getting bigger and pushing on your ribs. Bit uncomfy and takes the wind out of my sails every so often. Good excuse to sit down every half hour or so!
