I thought I'd better start another thread as the other one was full to bursting!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MaeWest · 30/04/2008 20:56

kayz - I worried about noise and neighbours when DS was born (July so all the windows open!). It was absolutely fine and they didn't even know he'd been born until the next day when DH spoke to our neighbour over the fence. The local kids were playing a footie match right outside the window which may have covered up some of the noise tho...

mibbes · 30/04/2008 20:56

Thanks abbymeg am now craving S&V crisps (I love them anyway but you have given me the urge...!)
hatty ditto "I am also ratty rather than tearful, exhausted rather than sick". And am also rhesus negative, anything I should now apart from the anti-D at 28 and 30-something weeks ? Oh and I'd go home to my own bed.
OMG fabulous news artichokes !! well done
Jollybear am with you on "yikes" about labour chat - I'm still in denial that will ever happen to me... la la la la I'm not listening !
Indith I'm up for coughing babies out - sounds quick and painless
kayz yikes imagine your neighbours hearing you give birth ! I'm going to hospital where all the equipment and drugs are - mind you maybe I won't need to for a cough-birth

kayzisexpecting · 30/04/2008 20:59

I really really dont want to go back to the hospital. I had a really bad experience and I'd rather it didn't happen again. But DH is not keen on the idea at all.

MaeWest · 30/04/2008 21:01

DH was not keen initially on HB, esp as DS was first baby. I got him lots of info and we went to a local HB group where there was an indie midwife, helped reassure him.

nandos · 30/04/2008 21:04

beckybendy, i really hope i dont have a missed mc cos' its my 1st time and i would be devastated if it really is a missed mc.
well..thx for letting me know in details..i really appreciate it.
im feeling down nowadays cos' i dont know if this pg is viable or not

kayzisexpecting · 30/04/2008 21:04

I might talk to the MW about it when I next see her.

I got my appt for seeing the consultant today. Its on the 16th June. Its ages away.

march29 · 30/04/2008 21:12

hi guys. have had an ok day but am really tired right now. wanted to ask if anyone had to take warfarin/hepparin after previous pregnancy and if so then what do they think will happen with this pregnancy? any ideas?

EmmaPP · 30/04/2008 21:22

hi everyone. have always been petrified of idea of childbirth...verging on almost a phobia to be honest (probably due to 101 horror stories friends've told me about their experiences over the years). Am due 15 dec, so am currently 8 weeks (altho actually 6 weeks as I know when i conceived). So, am thinking i will fork out for either hypnobirthing (£300) or natal birthing (£140) to try and get some positive mental attitude going on about the birth... ive posted other threads (to which no one's replied) asking if anyone knows if natal birthing (www.natalhypnotherapy.co.uk) is as good as hypnobirthing. Obviously have asked practitioner's, but of course they all say their way is best...not sure whether to just take the risk on £140 for natal birthing course (both are v. expensive for me)...if anyone of you have experienced either, would be good to hear. cheers xx

MaeWest · 30/04/2008 21:35

Welcome Emma - I didn't do a hypnobirthing course (too expensive!) but did have a set of CDs which I found quite useful, especially for relaxation in the last weeks of pg. I used a few visualisation techniques, nothing fancy just 'open' and 'down' really. I did find a pg yoga course absolutely great tho, and used a lot of the breathing techniques and positions. HTH

hotmama · 30/04/2008 21:35

Hello everyone.

Had my booking appointment on Monday. Took a little time to go through my 2 previous interesting birth experiences - but absolutely fine pregnancies!

I've got my dating scan on the 13th May at the Fetal Care Unit and hopefully will be booked in for a CVS end of May or beginning of June.

After not feeling pregnant, I am now feeling constantly sick - nice! Lasted between 6 and 10 weeks with my dd's so hopefully will only have a few weeks.

Hope everyone is doing O.K - will now catch upon all the postings!!!!

(smile emoticon)

EmmaPP · 30/04/2008 21:37

PS just read back through 2 pages...looks like you have to have 2 tests around 12 weeks then -nuchal and dating scan? can anyone tell me are they 2 separate ones, i know nothing! lovely reading all your thoughts...in a book im reading about nutrition in pregnancy, it says put pure vit E out of capsules on you to avoid stretch marks. But a bit of a faff cutting open the jelly tablets! apartly if you do it that way, it guarantees the quality of the vit E. but i read elsewhere that whether you get stretch marks or not depends on if your mum did, ie its genetic. in terms of where im having birth...in new zealand!! odd i know. but my mum moved there 7 years ago and am only child and have more family there than here. seems odd to travel so far for something that you feel like nesting in uk for...but will be amazing to have her there and spend maternity paid months there rather than here! obviously DH coming to - he's taking a years sabatical from his job and will find work out there. Have booked midwife, they let you buy and bring a water birthing pool (only £100 out there!!) to the hospital, so you're guaranteed a water birth if you want one! you also get a midwife booked to you the whole time.

majormoo · 30/04/2008 22:43

Emma welcome. The birth in NZ sounds like it could be lovely. I am afraid I cannot help on the hypnobirthing stuff but I hope it helps if you use it. For what it's worth, giving birth can be absolutely amazing-I can't wait to do it again!

Re the scans, I think you generally only need a dating scan if you are not certain of your dates. Sometimes people also have reassurance scans if they have a history of miscarriage for example. Whether you have the nuchal depends on your preference and also on where you live. Not everyone wants to undergo screening. Anyway, your midwife will explain what the situation is in your area.

msdynamo · 30/04/2008 22:48

I just want lots of drugs and a cesarian, none of this natural birth milarkey for me

Am thinking of paying for a private scan this week or next, just for reassurance. Anyone been to the Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley st?

snorris · 01/05/2008 06:37

Morning!
I finally got round to making my doctor's appointment so I am now "in the system" . Just got to wait for my midwife/scan dates to come through.

I've had 3 different births;dd1 was an induction and I had an epidural,dt's was elective c/s due to being breech and dd4 was HBAC (with an independant m/w) no pain relief at all . This time I plan to be in hospital as dd4 has a congenital heart condition and I want to play it safe just in case. (Her condition was undiagnosed until she was 12 days old).

minster · 01/05/2008 07:22

msdynamo I've used them several times, they really are excellent. You have a fetal medicine dr scanning you so if, heaven forbid, anything abnormal is found, you get the information then & there & don't have to wait to be referred. I have a scan with them in two weeks.

I feel pretty pregnant now - tired, sick, bfeeding is agony - but I'm continuing to ignore it until ater the scan!

msdynamo · 01/05/2008 07:43

Thanks minster that's really reassuring. The web page is a bit off putting with that guy with a beard! So it's good to know it's a bona fide place.

Can't imagine having to bf while pg with another baby, you deserve a medal!

BeckyBendyLegs · 01/05/2008 08:40

Nandos please try not to worry. I'm the only person I know out of all my mummy friends who had a missed MC. I think it is quite rare.

EmmaPP I would recommend trying hypnobirthing to cope with your worries about childbirth. I haven't 'formally' tried it myself but my mum trained as a hypnotherapist before she retired and she gave me lots of help with coping with labour and I think it really, really helped me (I have a really low pain threshold - crumbs if I get tooth ache I'm a nightmare!).

EffiePerine · 01/05/2008 08:40

Emma: completely understandable being worried about childbirth, it's the fear of the unknown ... but it id often NOT as bad as you hear, as you tend to hear the bad stories and not the good! I had a fast labour, not pain relief other than TENS (am going to get some G&A this time if I can ) and though I had an episiotomy (demanded a local for that) I healed well with no ongoing problems. Breastfeeding fine as well despite DS feeding every couple of hours or less, which I discovered was more common than not. So it isn't all doom and gloom. I;d say go with whatever will make you feel more confident and don't have too fixed an idea of your 'ideal' birth as you will probably need to change things as you go along

Re drugs, my sister had an epidural the first time round (was given no choice as induced) and HATED it. So each to their own!

rosmerta · 01/05/2008 08:44

Hi everyone, am trying to catch up again!

Seems like everyone's doing well apart from ms & tiredness. Roll on 2nd trimester when this passes

kayz I've also been craving diet coke! I'm allowing myself one can a day and I've changed to decaffeinated tea so think that's not too bad. Also having craving for Snickers!

artichokes congratulations on the win, that's fantastic!

jollybear you can have a homebirth & still have drugs! MW can have gas & air & pethidine, only one you can't have is an epidural.

Would love a homebirth but dh is really not confident about the idea so hospital it is! To be fair, its the same hospital I had ds in and they were pretty good. Also they're supposed to be opening a birth centre this year so am hoping I'll be able to go there.

Have my booking appt next week so scan probably won't be until I'm 14 weeks

EffiePerine · 01/05/2008 08:59

Am I the only one still on the odd cup of full fat tea? Have stopped drinking coffee but I thought the caffeine in 1 or 2 cups of tea a day was OK - or has that changed?

rosmerta · 01/05/2008 09:07

Effie, think its ok, just that I was still having about 4 cups of tea & a couple of cokes in a day . Hence the change

minster · 01/05/2008 09:13

lol msdynamo the beardy guy is Prof Nicolaides, the god of fetal medicine! He's quite a character

JollyBear · 01/05/2008 09:36

Morning all,

bisou You are very sweet to mention everyone in your post! I like the sound of the trousers you mentioned, are they maternity?

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question about trousers, it looks like nothing fits properly in this bloating stage! I'll either have to keep sitting with them undone or invest in some that I'll be forever pulling back up. The joys!

nando Do try not to worry. Lots of ladies have no sickness or other symptoms and their babies are fine.

rosmerta I think I need to read up on birth!

Hello to everyone else.

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 01/05/2008 09:41

Morning. I'm up and dressed and trying to be energetic today as got loads to do, including going to vote to keep Boris the Buffoon out of the Mayor's seat in London! Feeling sick, though

artichokes · 01/05/2008 09:54

Morning all.
I am feeling only slightly sick this morning. I am sure that will change soon.

EmmaPP Welcome. Sorry to hear about your birth phobia. I paid for a hypnobirthing course last time. I found ti very interesting but I did not practise the techniques often enough after the course and practise is crucial. When I went into labour some of the techniques I learned were helpful but I did not get as much as I should have out of it. If you do a course make sure you are willing to spend at least 20 minutes practising everyday up until the birth.

MsMattie I just did my democratic duty too. Can't help but feel democracy is all a little overrated given the choices we have today .

MsDynamo I had my nuchal a scan at the Fetal Medicine Centre last time (as they don't do nuchals on the NHS in my area unless you are over 35). It was great. They can even tell you the sex at 12 weeks! I am having my early scan there next week.
