Welcome to the thread; the one where we get baby gates and maybe some sleep!

Mine has also been known to enjoy sharing a little vegan ice cream/sorbet or dairy free cupcake. It was actually recommended to us by dietician to keep baked egg in his diet (another allergy 😅). Also loves fish, chips and mushy peas. Dairy free Yorkshire pudding and gravy? Yes please. All food must be shared. Has a complete tantrum if you don't share with the indignation. I did give him some curry and thai sweet chilli that I'd initially not given him thinking he wouldn't like it. He did and demanded more.

What water are you giving to the babies?
I was told when having solids cooled boiled water at meal times... Now at 9 months is anyone still doing that? Or do you give water from the tap?

Also what's the best yogurts your babies are having?
They all look so full of sugar to me or is that ok now x

Plain tap water and plain Greek yoghurt no added sugar. Although he does have more biscuits & sugary treats than his brother did at his age!!!

Lillybobs86 · 30/08/2024 13:27

Thank you that's great I started with tap water and just used the brita filter jug :)
I also found some yogurts in Tesco in the fridges that say from 6 months but tried them and they are so plain 🙈 I guess coz no added sugar lol

Lillybobs86 · 30/08/2024 16:42

Also I know it's a sore subject ... But cot bumpers 😬
I never wanted to use them and only use the mesh wraps that are secure and breathable, but recently my son is waking a lot after banging his head on the bars numerous times a night 🤦🏽‍♀️
I saw a photo on another group of a baby same age group as ours and had a lovely bumper around cot.
What are your thoughts? Is anyone using a bumper - or have any other ideas for preventing head bumping throughout the night? X

I think at this age be OK. Test that you can breathe through them (i actually did that with my PFB put my face to the next to me cot lol) I can't speak from experience though re cot bumpers as mine has been in bed with me since he was 6 months. Now if anyone has got any tips to get him to sleep in an actual cot now that would be great?!
Also I still only have the next to me cot I used when he was a newborn- now he's 9 months old what could anyone recommend I move him into?!
His brother went straight into a single bed at 2.5 after co sleeping with me but I'm pregnant again so don't want to co sleep as long this time if I can x

I like that plain yog isn't too sweet:)

Congratulations @Wavescrashingonthebeach wonderful news!
I find putting baby down on their side best to keep them asleep. They are able to roll well, so I take it as ok.

@Lillybobs86 I'm fairly risk adverse so cot bumpers are not for me. Would they realistically soften the bump by much? Wouldn't LO still push into it and wake? How securely fastened are they?
No judgement ment if you go for it, just sharing what I'd consider as risk v reward. We all find our own way parenting and what works for us and our families. It seems easier as they get older for sure

Spareincoming · 30/08/2024 23:26

@Lillybobs86 the head bumping on the bars is a phase that he’ll grow out off; my LO is just moving into this phase but his siblings all got through it unscathed - I think!

Bumpers aren’t worth the risk in my opinion. At the pre baby number one “learn everything afternoon” course thing we did, the practitioner explained that it’s not just the breathable fabrics risk factor but it’s also to do with air circulation and not increasing the heat in the cot space, which many bumpers where found to do.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 31/08/2024 08:22

@Thack I breastfeed him to sleep he doesn't really fall asleep without my boob in his mouth apart from in buggy or car haha. The only thing I can think what might work is get him to sleep in my bed then try and gently transfer to a cot. I've most definitely made a rod for my own back haha.
If he stirs in the night though and I'm not there he wakes up, as if I'm downstairs I see on the monitor his little hands reaching for me and I have to run up.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 31/08/2024 08:23

And thanks re congrats it won't feel real until the scan! Wonder if it'll be a 3rd boy?!

DollyGx · 05/09/2024 11:46

Hi ladies, my wee one is kind of starting to crawl (9.5mo), but she’s doing it with one leg under her and the other foot out to the side to kind of scoot her along, has anyone had babies start to crawl like this? I think it’s called asymmetrical crawling or club crawling and a quick google search has me worried (why do we do it to ourselves😅). She’s literally just started doing this the past 5 days or so, so I’m hoping she will soon figure out how to crawl “normally” 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mine started doing similar at 8 months. Commando crawling, but using one leg and waving the other leg around in the air (and making it much harder on himself 🤣).

He's still doing it about a month later. He has figured out the waving the spare leg about makes it harder though and just trails it on the floor, this week started trying to bring it under with the other leg. He walks normally etc so I think it's just coordination. I've been doing some cross body exercises with him, having him crawl over obstacles and kneeling more to try help him figure it out but we shall see 🤷‍♀️

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 06/09/2024 13:06

I've been to that many playgroups over the last few years and honestly there was so many variations in ages and stages and I didn't know of a single child who didn't catch up. Honestly make the most of it as it's a nightmare!!!!!! My nearly 10 month old is into everything 🤯 .
Lost 3rd baby what a shame :( was only a few weeks so not too traumatic but still sad

Psqueak87 · 06/09/2024 14:27

@Lillybobs86 late reply, but I just give water from our filtered water tap. And I give whole milk plain yoghurt. I either give it plain or I mix in fruit / peanut butter.

Psqueak87 · 06/09/2024 14:33

@DollyGx yes my friends baby crawls like this. She’s been doing it a while and still doing it at 15 months. She’s walking just fine too so I think it’s just a variation!

Eira still has her awful rash. I’ve been taking her to the walk in clinic seeing as my family doctor won’t do face to face appointments anymore. We tried an antibiotic eye ointment for 2 weeks that reduced the inflamed red look but didn’t actually get rid of the rash at all. Now that the days are up on that treatment the rash is back in full force. It’s really bothering her so going to try the doctor again today to see what they say. Photo doesn’t really do it justice.

We’re flying back to the UK and Ireland next week for 18 days, very excited but dreading the long plane journeys!

@FlyingHighFlyingLow bless him 🤣 yeah I’ve been trying to do some kneeling play with her and letting her crawl with legs and knees exposed so we’ll see how it goes!
@Wavescrashingonthebeach so true they all get there eventually don’t they! Oh no I’m so sorry to hear about your loss 😢 that is really sad, I hope you’re doing ok. ❤️‍🩹 big hugs x
@Psqueak87 thats reassuring about the walking, I’m sure my wee one will be fine it just worries me when I started reading all this stuff in google! Poor Eira I hope you manage to get something else for it! Not many tips for the plane journey as we’ve only done short haul (Scotland to Spain) which I was dreading but she was surprisingly good (she was 8mo at the time). Feeding/dummy for take off and landing to help her ears and some snacks/new toys to keep her entertained when she’s awake. My wee one is super nosey and does not fall asleep easily at all so I was really worried she was going to be awake hours but she napped both ways in my arms which she hadn’t done for months!

Thack · 07/09/2024 10:12

@DollyGx Google is evil at times but I'd have no idea what to do without it!

@Wavescrashingonthebeach so sorry to hear that. I hope you are doing ok ❤️

@Psqueak87 good luck with the doctors, you're doing well to keep on at them!
Fidget toys are good, my LO loves a bath toy that spins. I'll be taking that when we travel, stick it on a chair and off they go!

Gummy is so close to crawling now. I feel like I'm being over excited though and it'll be much longer 😂

Psqueak87 · 07/09/2024 15:10

Doctor said as we walked in “that’s impetigo” but she was kinda backtracking through the next 10 mins and decided it might not be. From my research I don’t think it is, just because it’s been slowly building since the start of June. She gave me antibiotic cream specifically for impetigo though and we’re giving it a go. Day one and it looks so much worse with the cream. I’m hoping it’s a worse before it gets better thing.

@Thack thanks for the toy recommendation! I do have one of those in the bath so I’ll bring it!

Chlo496 · 14/09/2024 10:04

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well.
Any of you that have returned to work have any advice or reassurance about routines once you’ve gone back?
My son is in nursery twice a week and then with each grandparent once per week and it seems to have messed up our routine so much, I think there are so many people involved and possibly all doing different things but we have no other option.
It’s making things when we are at home very difficult and night time sleep is worse than ever! 😭

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 14/09/2024 15:57

I'm at work again, baby in nursery 4 days a week. It's going to take time. At home he'll take 2x 90 min naps. At nursery it's 2x20 min. So I pick a very tired baby up at 5pm and have to decide whether to let him nap that late, or try keep him awake to do dinner and bed time 😅. His sleep socks anyway, still won't sleep more than 2 hours at a time at night so 🤷‍♀️

If you want continuity could you try get everyone to follow same rough schedule?

Chlo496 · 14/09/2024 19:33

@FlyingHighFlyingLow thank you, it is reassuring that someone else is in the same boat I guess. My babe has also always not been a great sleeper, it just seems much worse right now. Like you said it may just take time, for me as well to get used to not always being in control. Everyone is aware of our routine just trying to stick to it and how we do things isn’t always easy. X

DollyGx · 02/10/2024 22:34

Hi Ladies how are we all? Can’t believe we are almost at the first birthdays!! Where the hell has this year gone 🙈

has anyone gone down to just 1 nap yet?? For at least 2 months now my LG’s sleep has been awful. She’s never been a great sleeper but now we have split nights almost every night, she’ll be awake for minimum an hour and the longest period was 4 hours!! I’m tearing my hair out. Reading online it says most causes of split nights were down to too much day sleep, so I’ve cut her naps, she was having about 2.5 hours a day split over 2 naps, I’ve now cut that to about 1hr45 mins but it’s made zero difference I now just have a grumpier baby. Also bedtime is a disaster, she takes so long to fall asleep, tonight it was about an hour. My last resort is trying her on just 1 nap, I would just really need to stretch her wake windows. She’s a pretty good napper but night sleep is awful and I’m really struggling! Even looked into getting a sleep consultant but wow they’re expensive!!

Italia89 · 03/10/2024 00:41

We've had split nights a lot these last few weeks (about 3 in the last week, and she's up for 2 hours between 3 to 5am).

I think it's where she's had a big developmental leap; suddenly crawling, pulling to standing, being very engaging, paying much more attention to things...

Apparently it can be when they're learning is in overdrive.

My little one has hardly any day time sleep (usually 30-45 mins at 9am and then another 30-45 mins at 2pm) so I don't think the issue is too much sleep for her.

Thack · 03/10/2024 19:27

We occasionally have three naps but more often it's two. Both typically 45mins. Asleep somewhere around 7pm. One or two wakes and then by 3.30am is very restless and wakes often. Up at 6am ISH.

Split nights are rare here. You have my sympathy, they are awful!

Has anyone planned the birthdays yet? We're going to the zoo at the weekend and then have a fairly normal day, with gifts and cake of course!
We don't live near family so a party wouldn't suit us at this point.
I have no idea what presents to get. I've only just started back in work so funds are limited.

Spareincoming · 14/10/2024 10:43

Hello everyone! How are we all?

Can’t quite believe we’ll have some 1 year olds this time next week!

LO is entering the development stage I enjoy at last! Crawling has been mastered and I think we’ll be furniture cruising soon.
This morning he discovered a box full of musical instruments (This weekend I rearranged the kallax storage!) and figured out to use a beater with the xylophone- how do they know to do this! Although he’s currently unraveling the rattan that makes up the box…

Overbearing health visitor messaged me last week to remind me about weaning off bottles and dummies from 12 months and which cups she personally recommends having multiples of… the expensive ones , with multiple pieces to clean, of course!
Needless to say, LO will be using the cheap Tescos sippy cups that go through the dishwasher, just like his siblings have done!
