I m writing this in tears, I really can’t take it anymore , I am desperate and in agony since giving birth 5 days ago. A huge pile is out very tender and painful .. I have other external piles around but not that huge. The pain is unbearable.. I can’t sit to breastfeed my baby , i can’t even walk… I went to the Gp she gave me schediproct ointment but it’s not helping. I feel like this pain is never going to stop, please please someone give me hope, someone can tell me that it will get better?? Does it go away by itself ??for how long??

When I saw this post my heart went out to you. I had this albeit more than three years ago. I had no issues whatsoever when pregnant but was left pushing for a very long time and ended up with horrendous piles. Way worse than my episiotomy stitches. It was awful and they pawned me off with anusol ointment in the hospital which did absolutely nothing.

Eventually a GP prescribed Proctosedyl suppositories and they did the trick pretty quickly. Tell the GP you need something stronger.

LilMon · 14/07/2024 18:54

Thank you for your message @Jafferz . I think this exactly what happened to me as well, all the pushing for a long time gave these horrendous piles , it’s honestly the worst pain I ve ever felt ..and it make my days miserable , I can’t even enjoy my newborn properly…
I feel so alone in this, so I really appreciate you sharing your story.
Do you remember how long did take to go away, or at least to start easing a bit?

Once I got the Proctosedyl suppositories I noticed an improvement really fast - like in a day maybe - and within a few days it was very much better. Just get them as soon as you can and make sure you follow the dosage. I remember being very surprised how quickly it resolved given how awful it was.

Sending hugs.

LizzeyBenett · 14/07/2024 19:07

Go back and get scheriproct suppositories they worked so much better for me than the ointment , you can use both together x

mathanxiety · 14/07/2024 19:11

You may have a thrombosed hemorrhoid (do not Google images of thrombosed hemorrhoids).

You should insist on having it lanced. Ointment won't have any effect. Lancing will make your life 1000% better immediately.

Don't wait around. If you have an urgent care centre nearby, get it done.

Jafferz · 14/07/2024 19:13

Same active ingredient. Just ask the GP for suppositories as the cream's not doing anything.

LilMon · 14/07/2024 19:54

@mathanxiety it is the case according to the GP.
however I really don’t want to go through a procedure like lancing the pile, as it takes apparently 2 to 4 weeks to just recover for it, and I m such in agony at the moment that I really looking for a fast relief.

Oh poor you. I had terrible piles when pregnant that hurt like that. I think they were thrombosed and so got a lot better after about 48 hours as it basically dies off.

LilMon · 14/07/2024 20:12

Thanks for your message @Oldermum84 . I wish it was the case with me! I m at day 6 and still hurting like the first day!

Oh I hear you, and I am so sorry for you! I was absolutely fine whilst pregnant but after birth and for the first few months of BF, I had the most horrific internal piles. With DC1, I didn't know what was happening as I had never experienced them before!

As I was BF, I was refused any medication, so DH used to go and get suppositories 'for him' (me).

britespark1 · 14/07/2024 20:58

Oh OP I remember your pain. After my 2nd DC was born I used to sit in the bath and just cry. I’d never known pain like it. Dr prescribed me Xyloproct ointment which took a couple of days to help but really did make a difference. I’m tempted to buy from an online pharmacy “just in case” as I live in fear of that pain ever happening again.

LilMon · 14/07/2024 20:58

@cringedqueen I am breastfeeding as well and they still gave me schediproct ointment, now I m hoping they give me something stronger but it’s. It getting any better . It’s cruel to not treat breastfeeding mamas!

I truely feel less alone in my misery as I can see I’m not the only one suffering from the evil piles!

I totally, totally feel for you, could have written your post.

I also got the ointment you have.

It did get better eventually - probably about 2 weeks. I felt like the cream helped very slightly the symptoms, temporarily, but didn't do much else. It obviously did do something though as it did go away, I promise!!

I was also in tears though, the worst part of post-partum for me by far.

Oh no! My piles were part of the reason I had an elective c section. I couldn't imagine giving birth and pushing with them - I was scared of how much worse they would get!

Hope they get a bit better soon 🙏

LilMon · 18/07/2024 19:22

@lysistrataaa thanks so much for your message! It gave me hope!! I am on day 9 and they’re still there.. I had to stop the cream because I couldn’t apply it for more than 7 days , and as you said it only slightly help with some of the symptoms .. I will wait another week and hopefully like you it will get better and I can finally enjoy fully my newborn !

@LilMon I have everything crossed for you!!

Honestly worse than childbirth.

Mine went purple / black, and it was horrific, but I think they die themselves after that! 🙏

I had no idea they will get worse!! I naively thought that pushing won’t really affect them especially I “only”pushed for 20 mins! I completely understand your choice for an elective c section, the pain from them is beyond any pain I’ve ever felt !

How are you doing @LilMon ?

Been thinking about you 💐

LBFseBrom · 24/07/2024 22:26

I had that but it didn't take long for things to become normal and the piles disappeared. I was very constipated for a while - and had a few stitches which didn't help. Your baby is only five days old so it's early days and definitely not unusual. Take heart, you will soon be fine.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 24/07/2024 22:28

I had what I described to my midwife as a ball sack hanging out of my bum.

I used anusol and pushed them back in every single bowel movement.. it is awful but it will get better.

mrssunshinexxx · 27/08/2024 20:09

Hi @LilMon what happened with your piles ? I suffered same when pregnant with my first it was theombsoed and fucking AGONY! I used to wrap ice cubes in kitchen roll and hold it on the area til I basically froze it and it went numb so I could have some relief from the pain - hideous!! I dread to think what kind would be like after pushing I had 2 EMC's!

New2020 · 07/01/2026 20:01

Sorry to bump this but did they go @LilMon

I have the same and I'm so scared and in pain. I feel like I'll never be normal again
