Happy New Year everyone!

Following Katzguk's suggestion I've started up the new thread - hope no-one minds.

Well, I did absolutely nothing for New Year. I have the cold from hell so I was in bed by 9pm. I was very disappointed as we were supposed to be going to a party but I decided not to go as I wouldn't have enjoyed myself and then I'd have made dp miserable too. So, I celebrated by having a lemsip topup at 12 o'clock! (One for the books!) Hope you all had a nice time.

Have been reading your threads about what to buy and what not to buy. I started buying after Christmas as I want to start really enjoying this pregnancy now. Dp is incredibly worried that something will go wrong and we are tempting fate but I don't want to be walking on egg shells for the next 5 months .... yup 5 months already!!! Scary stuff!

Anyway, we have bought a Graco travel system as I have spent hours in the shops clipping and unclipping and puttin them up and down and I found Graco to be lightweight and really simple to use. Then I trawled the internet on boxing day and found that Toys'r'Us was doing some good deals.

Cot is going to be an Ikea special. They are so cheap, I just don't think you can argue and we are big fans of Ikea. However, if anyone has any experiences of this then let me know. We aren't bothering with the moses basket.

I've got a 2-way baby carrier from e-bay, which is still new apparently, although I haven't received it yet so I'll hold bck on judgement.

And then the mumsnet wanted and for sale boards are fantastic. I've got a bottle warmer and a travel cot through mumsnet. I'd reommend that anyone here use them.

There are three things which I need help with though:

  • steriliser; microwave or electric??? Any opinions?
  • breast pump; is there one which is comfortable and easy to use? I don't want to spend a fortune and then not be able to use it.
  • baby monitor; I definitely want one. Am planning on sitting in the garden over the summer, and baby might not want to be moved. Should I get a normal one? A digital one? Has anyone used an under mattress sensor type one? Need big help with this one.

Have bought myself some books on motherhood and new babies too. Am such a planner, I need to be having a good read now so I can put all the theory to practice in 5 months time!

Hope you are all well and not being sick any more! x

Sorry to get a few of you confused about the London meetg.
You should know better than to listen to a pregnant woman!

I am with Uwila, never had much boobs, and the slight increase I get during the pregnancy (I may go up to C when milk come in ) is actually NOT wellcome!

LipstickMum · 16/01/2005 19:22

Yeah, but Jonah, that is exactly why we aren't telling people what our name choices are; so they can't comment and put us off!! I am really easily swayed by peoples opinions, but I feel very strongly that this is our decision, if my brother in law or whoever doesn't like the name - tough luck!

Another small boobed lady here. They have 'swollen' but that is about it. Am glad I don't have big uns, so fucking expensive to buy bra's, it's ridiculous!

Off for a spot of tv, byeeee.

PinkArjuna · 16/01/2005 19:45

mrsflowerpot - I'll be in southmead on the 26th for my scan Goodness I'll be there at 11am finding out if it is a girl or boy

It must be said I am sure when the milk comes in the boobs get bigger again - I'll have to be careful the baby might bounce right off

re: names I have said, I have absolutely no intention of changing them hell or high water - I'll just look at the sullen teenage death stares Ill recieve from the child for ruining their life

Scraggyaggy - I am sure when baby Lucy gets older she won't mind - and its nice you and your husband have choosen together must be special - Only benefit to being a single mum - no compromise

Weeb · 16/01/2005 19:50

JonahB, I have the M&P pliko - it is fab! So compact when folded, useful carry handle on the side, easy to open and close, very comfy for bub. One downside is that NO pushchair toys attach to it - but apart from that its great. I attached his lordships toys with the cunning use of the kids plastic keyrings on the spiral wire (which becomes a better toy than the one its holding!)Hope that helps. x

katzguk · 16/01/2005 20:31

i had comedy boobs when my milk came in with DD, i would post a pciture showing it on the junemums yahoo site but it does have a naked boob on it and i wouldn't liek to get us in trouble or for someone else to see i, but needless to say that my boob was twice if not three times the size of DD's head!!

teabelly · 17/01/2005 09:30

Morning all,

Katz - what an image - and I'm having my breakfast here, he he he!

Jonahb I really liked the Pliko, but it was more expensive than the one I got - but it is lighter and if I'd have gone for it I probably would have been able to put off buying the 2nd small buggy for alot longer. They sell extremely well on ebay so lots of others must like then too!

Pink/Mrs Flowerpot I have my scan the day before you guys and also hope to find out what 'flavour' the baby is too.

Tessie - haven't heard from Cobweb for ages - hope all is ok...

Had a really eventful weekend - my friend who was due this wed developed pre-eclampsia (sp?) and was induced - as luck would have it her husband had exams this weekend so dh and I were on standby...luckily the dad to be was able to get there in the end and they now have the most adorable little girl, and mum's doing well too now...it's made me want mine now![stamps little foot]

Re the boobies - mine have only gone up from a B to a C and with ds I only managed a DD for immediately after the birth and they diminished very quickly - so I'm in the small brigade very jealous of the biggies, and so would dh be but I won't enlighten him!

mrsflowerpot · 17/01/2005 09:30

Pink - how weird, I am having my scan there later that day! I was there the other week too at the antenatal clinic, first time I'd set foot in the grounds since I left there with ds nearly 4 years ago, very odd feeling. The staff are all really nice there and they have a lot of specialists because the neo-natal stuff is such a big specialism for them.

teabelly · 17/01/2005 09:55

Just a quickie for those coming next saturday, in case they haven't seen it on the London meet thread - the venue has changed to TGI Fridays (opposite Trocadero)

katzguk · 17/01/2005 10:23

got my scan at 1pm today so excited!!

welshmum · 17/01/2005 10:46

Hope it goes well Katzguk. I've got mine tomorrow morning.
Feel like I've been away for ages and you've done boobs, names etc all without me chipping in. Mine are bigger but not too bad so far. As for names dd has 2 Welsh names and one kiwi one so number 2 will have the same pattern. We kind of have boys names sorted but haven't got far with girls. We'll know how much work we've got to do after the scan tomorrow I guess - If they can see clearly enough.

teabelly · 17/01/2005 10:52

Welshie / Katz good luck for your scans.

MrsWednesday · 17/01/2005 11:22

Good luck for the scan today Katzguk and tomorrow Welshmum. Are you finding out what you're having this time Katzguk?

Another small boobed one here but they have grown quite a bit so now I'm averaged sized and droopy. Have been very bad and not bought new bras so I'm still in underwired ones that don't fit properly (). I can see a shopping trip coming on as soon as I get paid...

Lua, I meant to say earlier - I also had an anterior placenta with DS and didn't feel anything for ages (I'm sure it was after my 20 week scan). It makes a big difference - this time round it's posterior and I have been feeling lots of kicks and wriggles.

katzguk · 17/01/2005 11:34

i have some 34E maternity bras if anyone wants them, there are nearly new, bought then last time round and grew at a rate of knots os they were barely worn.

We aren't going to find out the sex unless the baby gives the game away itself. We want a suprise plus it gives us more names to argue over!!

LipstickMum · 17/01/2005 12:16

Good luck to those having 20 week scans coming up

Scraggyaggy · 17/01/2005 12:57

Morning all,

Am mopey as hell. Just had my 20 week scan and we've been told we have to go back in two weeks. Apparently baby's head is small - about a week smaller than it should be....

Saying that dp and I are both smallish headed, so maybe he just takes afer us?? (I say he but we don't actually know.) I just burst into tears - which is daft I know, but I just couldn't help it. I think part of it was seeing our wriggly baby doing baby things on the screen, just made it all so real!! He was trying to put his toes in his mouth at one point!! And looked as though he was working out what his fingers tasted like!!

Was brilliant though. Dp got to see loads as she wanted me to lie quite still and relax as she was taking all the measurements. Amazing seeing the little heart in such detail.

Lua - I think I have an anterior placenta too as she said it was at the front. Might explain why dp can't feel the kicks all that well... which I was disappointed about too. To me, it feels as though it's thumping, but he can't really tell it's a kick. Hopefully it'll be ok in a couple of weeks.

Can't wait to see everyone this weekend. Will be nice to have a baby information download with people who aren't going to lecture!! MIL started again the other day, about how I've got to stop travelling, as in stop travelling to work!! It's an hour's train journey each way, which I'm sure some of you must do too. Oh, I know she cares and I shouldn't be ungrateful, but honestly...

On the buggy front, SIL, who now has 3 children is a huge fan of the travel systems, but also says not to spend a fortune and just get the cheapest thing on a practical level, if that makes sense. Obiously, I don't know what I'm tlking about, but I thought that another point of view to add to the mix would be a good thing!

Well, am already feeling better, now I've written this. Have a good day everyone! x

LipstickMum · 17/01/2005 13:03

I think I will be very confused at the meeting this Saturday. I recognise so many names on here and snippets of information associated with certain people, but I don't always match them up correctly. So I apologise in advance if I muddle some of you up or even forget whole conversations we have had !! Throwing real names into the mix ain't gonna make it any easier either!!!

LipstickMum · 17/01/2005 13:05

Scraggy, try not to worry. I have no idea what a small head could imply, but hopefully it's nothing to worry about. Just think, you can have a good old rant and worry when you see us on Saturday!!!!

mcmudda · 17/01/2005 13:13

Afternoon everyone

Just had a poo morning, took ds to toddler group where there was a puppet show. He's usually fine with puppets but it was a really shouty, screechy performance and he freaked out! Crying and shaking and inconsolable - I've never seen him like that before. I got really upset on his behalf and all protective of my wee boy.

Anyway that's just a MOAN!

And to console all the big boobies out there. I'm 5ft zilch. Before ds I was a 36D. 34J (yes J!) while feeding, then down again to 32G before this preg and now I'm back in my 34J nursing bras already because it's the only thing that helps me breathe!!

Bizarrely I've only put on 3/4 pounds in weight with this preg - I was the size of a house by 20 weeks with ds - running round after a toddler must make a difference!

Had a bath last night and could actually see baby moving under my tummy which was soooooo weird, but very nice too - we had a little chat seeing as s/he wanted to play

I don't seem to be getting a 20 week scan, but all my blood tests including spina bifida and downs all came back clear yesterday so that's another worry gone.

Did anyone see 3 celebs and a baby last night - Caprice would be a very scary mum!!

Scraggyaggy · 17/01/2005 13:21

Lippy, Thanks. I'm sure it doesn't mean too much as it's only a week different, not several weeks. I don't think it helped that the person we saw was a bit clinical. It was pretty obvious by her demeanour (sp?) that this is all routine and in a day's work for her. Not like us, who are first time parents and want to soak every little bit up along the way. I just wanted the to say everything was perfect... you know how it is. Poor dp, think he was at a complete loss when I burst into tears!!

OP posts:
teabelly · 17/01/2005 13:21

Oh bugger no and I meant to watch it too!

Scraggy - a small head can only be a good thing in my book [she says thinking of events to come]

Scraggyaggy · 17/01/2005 13:30

Teabelly - how right you are! x

McMudda - Must be something in the air today about having poo mornings! x

katzguk · 17/01/2005 14:38

well just back from my scan and alls well. The baby wouldn't play ball so we had to go for a walk to get it to move and show off its spine. But everything is okay, we have chosen to not find out the sex so now we just have the count down to the labour.

Bumped into my midwife at the hospital and she said she was visiting me soon, so will get to here bumps heartbeat soon.

We took DD with us and she loved it, chatted to the man doing the scan 19 to the dozen!! even told him to be carefully with her mummy and baby. She now has her own photo which she is proudly showing anyone who passes!!

MrsWednesday · 17/01/2005 14:51

Scraggyaggy - my thought was the same as Teabelly when I read your message...a small head is a very good thing! It really doesn't sound like it's anything to worry about but these things are very stressful. The person doing the scanning is very quiet, busy taking their measurements and they seem to forget they are dealing with real people with a massive emotional investment in what's going on. And looking on the bright side - you will be able to get to see your baby again in two weeks.

Katzguk, so pleased everything went well and that your DD enjoyed the experience. Next time you see the baby it will be in real life!

Sorry to read about your crap morning Mcmudda, sending a big hug for your DS. My DS is a fearless boy usually but when he saw a man dressed in a big puppet outfit he burst into tears immediately.

Hope everyone's day improves soon.

welshmum · 17/01/2005 15:02

Can I share a lovely moment with you on here please? I was walking along with dd yesterday, her little gloved hand in mine and she said 'Mummy you're my best girl, you really are'
aaaaaaah she's really very sweet most days.

teabelly · 17/01/2005 15:07

Katz glad all went ok with the scan - don't know how you can resist asking the sex tho...I'm sooo impatient and although I love surprises I can't wait to find them out too!! It's great when the little ones get excited too - just not sure they understand how much their little world will change in a few months tho
