Hello ladies, If I remember rightly a couple of your DH's are leagal eagles, and just looking for wome info regarding BIL. FIL has given solictor £1700 upfront to cover fees and left card details with him to cover any future expenses. This is too much for just a magistrates appearance isn't it? Also will he get a custodial sentence? Just want to be armed with some info to see if we can drag FIL's head out of the sand as his daughter is telling him some wonderful stories.

Evening all bringing more virtual booze to the group along with a huge chocolate cake

I really dont know how you are all coping with getting up in the morning and going to work, Im a complete wash out these days.

Heartburn is hellish dry crackers help during the day and my gaviscon is by my bed, I had a little wine on sat and instantly regretted it as the heartburn overtook any enjoyment. Bring on the nice hot summer with bubs in pram sitting in the garden BBQ and a nice chilled vino.

On the pillow front DD has only just got a pillow and she will be 3 in August, you can buy kids starter pillows as well which are really thin, but most kids end up hurling them out the bed anyway.

Upsidedown I would grab the chance with your DS with both hands while you can, if you get him now he wont regress when baby arrives. DD has been dry for about 2 months now, and I started her in the house with nothing on a treat and a sticker then moved on to pants then pants and bottoms within a couple of weeks. My DS struggled the 1st few days with clothes but he was at a childminder and didnt like being embarrased by having accidents so pier pressure I think spurred him on. I think boys pick it up quicker as they are so attached to the there winkles they understand what is happening quicker good luck.

Right I have waffled enough. I hope no-one get any cruel pranks played on them tomorrow.

bitofadramaqueen · 31/03/2008 22:21

josey the thought of garden, sunshine and vino is heavenly!

upsidedowncake LOL at the crap in the bath. That'll keep me chuckling till I fall asleep.

On the heartburn front - while mine is getting progressively worse I haven't really noticed anything in particular setting it off. Although, if I do get it when I go to bed tonight I might just have to blame the giant easter egg that I've just polished off. The baby growing inside me wont give me stretch marks, it'll be the chocolate!

aberdeenhiker · 01/04/2008 08:22

good morning everyone! It's gorgeous here again today - at least I have a window at work to stare out of ...

hugs to everyone with plumbing problems (rather than just the getting up in the night to pee (etc.) plumbing problems that most of us have - am I crazy that typing plumbing problems on a pregnancy chat board made me laugh?)

I've had the odd 1/2 glass of wine, but I'm looking forward to being able to have a full glass in June! I was pretty careful about drinking too much while breastfeeding for the first few months, but then DS starting sleeping for longer and I started having a full glass of red wine every night after putting him to bed and it felt wonderfully civilized. The fact that DH insisted we buy boxes of wine (stays fresher longer than bottles) didn't feel so civilized though!

my heartburn is definitely getting worse now too.

Upsidedowncake · 01/04/2008 08:28

Good morning.

Sophie, I hope this gets sorted out for you. It must be so stressful.

Bit early for virtual wine this morning, but how are all the plumbing disasters doing?

Re the Upsidedowncake family plumbing, DS did another successful wee this morning. And then he was so chuffed with all the praise he was getting, he said he needed another one straight away. So he sat down, tried to wee, and couldn't manage it, 'My pee-pee doesn't work ... !' Awwww.

We are going shopping for pants on Friday. It's hard as he is at nursery so I can't give this the concentrated time that I would if he were at home. Any advice?

Josey, I quite agree - roll on the summer, picnics and slobbing on the grass.

Got my midwife today and BP check. It must have come down slightly as the thought of potty-training DS would have sent me into orbit last week.

Upsidedowncake · 01/04/2008 08:41

Aberdeen, LOL, snort, telepathic X-post, I don't think you are crazy. In fact, I laughed when typing about DS's plumbing development.

bitofadramaqueen · 01/04/2008 08:48

Morning everyone - I have only myself to blame after my easter egg fest last night, but felt sick and queasy all through the night, had really bad heartburn (and accidentally managed to pour half a bottle of gaviscon over the newly cleaned bedroom carpet ) and basically had hardly any sleep.

Feel awful now but needed to come into work to deal with a few bits and pieces. Have resolved to go home later though if I'm still feeling rough.

Hope everyone's plumbing is going well (whatever the kind of plumbing) - upsidedown, good luck with your MW appt and BP check!

ktpie · 01/04/2008 09:02

Morning everyone, I've been having the odd small glass of wine or half a pint, I'm also looking forward to enjoying a bit more when the baby is born!
Got my midwife appointment this afternoon, think she will be taking some blood, fingers crossed I don't faint, seem to be prone to that at the moment!

Hope you all manage to get your plumbing sorted out.

Josie57 · 01/04/2008 09:56

Morning all. Finally saw the physio yesterday after an 8 week wait. The good news is that I don't have SPD but the bad news is that they think I displaced my hip last time I gave birth which stretched all the ligaments and gave me all the pain first time round. With all the extra hormones and weight these old problems are now flaring up but they are fixable However, it does require me to do my exercises everyday, something which I am not very good at finding time for but I really must do. They've also told me I need to be really careful when I give birth this time. Like I am going to remember that when I'm in pain and begging for them to drag the baby out of me .

Debs - party sounds like it was fun - do they have different games in Austria?

As for alcohol - well I have managed to be extremely good this time (Josie polishes her halo) as I have only had a few liquer chocolates and half a glass of champagne to celebrate my sisters wedding. But I am really looking forward to getting bubs into a routine and getting my dh to do the last feed so that I can have a glass of wine in the evenings. As someone else said - it makes you feel so civilised and adult like!

My parents are coming to visit this week which I am really looking forward to as this will be the last time I see them before the baby arrives!!!! I can't wait for this little one to arrive - I am far more impatient this time round.

Rolf · 01/04/2008 10:01

Sophie - my DH tends to get involved with those sort of cases further down the line so I don't think he'd be of much help to you - sorry. I think Neenz's DH is probably better informed.

I'm so glad it's a bit sunnier, although we're still not doing much during the day. I can't walk very far without being breathless and dizzy, and DD is at a stage when she needs chasing, so the boys are having a very home-based Easter holiday.

Very impressed at all the potty-training going on. The boys both potty-trained quite late (they were well gone 3). I thought DD might be ready a bit earlier but apparently not. I've rather got the impression from her that she'll be one of those children who just do it when they are ready - you know, in nappies one day and more or less potty-traineed the next, so I'm looking out for signs. Every so often she wanted to put on about 6 pairs of knickers which, after a while, she pees in. That's as far as we've got! I sound like such a shambolic mother, don't I .

My in-laws have given me dates they are coming over. I'm so looking forward to seeing them. The only difficulty is that they would like to have their own place to stay - an apartment or something. And I'm finding it impossible to find anything for the 5 weeks they'll be here - everything is 6 months minimum. I'm asking everyone I know to keep their ears open but we're cutting it a bit fine now. We'll have the builders in when they are here and will really struggle to accommodate them.

makecakesnotwar · 01/04/2008 10:04

Morning all- heating and hot water fully restored, so I got to have a bath last night once DH returned from work (can't get in/out unsupervised!) Of course I fell asleep with wet hair so now look like Stig of the Dump.

I feel ike the bump has doubled in size the last couple of days- feeling much more cumbersome, tired, weepy. Have mw this afternoon so that might well be a contributing factor. Have booked a pedicure to make me feel better- my mum got me some vouchers last time she was home.

Can't offer any help about FIL legal issues Sophie as DH knows nothing about criminal law.

makecakesnotwar · 01/04/2008 10:08

Just seen something on TV about peguins that fly to South American Rainforest to avoid the winter. Penguins don't fly, do they? This is an April Fool, right??

With pregnant brain you can never be sure...

Josie57 · 01/04/2008 10:12

Yes makecakes this is an April fool. Quite a good one though. My dh went to a conference in San Diego with his boss and as they flew out at the weekend they decided to visit Seaworld and whilst looking at the penguins she asked him if they could fly - and this was someone with a PhD!!! He's never let her forget it!

Josie57 · 01/04/2008 10:15

As for bumps changing shape - I am sure mine has dropped as I can definitely breathe more easily this week and it just looks bigger and lower. Not sure I should have mentioned it to my dh as he's panicking that the baby is going to arrive imminently

nettiehay · 01/04/2008 10:26

Morning all, I've been a bit busy, so not able to post - got new carpet in my office at work, but it means I was dipslaced for two days and had the day before and the day after sorting boxes/crap out and deciding what to shred/chuck/keep. Luckily it is all sorted now and I have lovely new blue carpet.

Heartburn getting worse - YES! But I'm so used to it now (after almost 15 weeks of it) that it is second nature to carry around some Gaviscon.

My bump seems to be permanently lopsided to the left - and Bug is moving lots - but not exactly kicking - just moving. I am hoping this means he/she is trying to head south as he/she was head up at last m/w appt.

DP left yesterday for a week skiing in France with his father and brother. So I slept terribly last night in the bed by myself, but I think I will get used to having so many pillows, that there might be a problem when he gets back!

Hope all are well and coping with various stresses/issues.

Oh BTW, found out yesterday that I have been successful in my application for a permanent position. So they will make me permanent, just in time for me to go off on maternity leave!

josey · 01/04/2008 10:31

Morning.
How are we all today? Im sore and creeky last night must have been the worst sleep I have had yet, made worse by having to heave myself up on the headboard to roll over. And as much as Im loving seeing the sun last night was a reminder of how hot you get a night Ive been ok up till now.

Upsidedown could you try washable training pants for nursery? I used these for the 1st few weeks when we went out as DD would just wee in pull ups but didnt in training pants, it was obviously mind trickery with her though.

DH is away up the today to see his gran again she doesnt seem to been keen on giving up despite what the medical staff are telling us.

Anyone have any advise on breast pumps? The one I had last time was awful I couldnt get it back together once I used it and had awful suction I was better off with my hand.

Josie57 · 01/04/2008 10:37

nettiehay - congratulations on the permenant position you must be really pleased and what perfect timing!

makecakesnotwar · 01/04/2008 10:48

Hooray Nettie!!

AM off to do battle with jobcentre plus about my maternity allowance application form! Why is nothing ever simple??????

nettiehay · 01/04/2008 10:53

Thanks for the congrats - am very pleased. It's a wieght off my mind to know I have a job to come back to. Also, I really love this job, so am totally excited!

Bramshott · 01/04/2008 10:56

I do love your creme egg themed thread titles ladies!!

Upsidedowncake · 01/04/2008 11:07

Congratulations Nettie! That's great. How long are you going to take off?

I'm gutted that the penguins was an April Fool. I was totally taken in. They had David Attenborough commenting on the images and everything.

I wasn't expecting to potty-train DS yet as my DH wasn't potty-trained till well gone 3. I had a chat with the nursery and they think we should just go for it (as Josey said), as any later and DS will regress when the baby arrives. Yikes!

Breast pumps, I had the Medela electric last time, which was great, but the motor eventually died after about a year. I used it a lot (for example, I did all the Gina Ford expressing for the first few weeks), and I had to keep it on the highest suction level but I had always had immediate let-down.

This year, a friend and I bought the Ameda dual pump together - she is using it now and I will take it on when the baby is born. Decided to go for this, as wanted something a bit faster than the Medela with DS around as well.

I've also got the Avent hand pump as electric ones don't work in the States. My let-down was a bit delayed compared to the Medela but it was very fast once I got going.

Upsidedowncake · 01/04/2008 11:09

Hello, Bramshott, tell us about yourself.

needahand · 01/04/2008 11:10

Blimey I can't believe you wrote so much between last night and this morning!

I have had a couple of glasses of wines this time too, but I have to say I don't really fancy the tast of it, I am quite happy with my non alcoholic becks as well.

Josie I have a hip pb too as opposed to SPD and last time I went to see the obstetric physio she manually put my pelvis and hip back in place. Quite painful but I did feel better for a long while

Sophie I am a solicitor (not criminal though) and this strikes me as a lot of money to pay up front. I am also very surprised that your FIL had to give his credit card details! Usually solicitors bill on an after the event basis. If you have any doubt, give the law society and say you need advice as to costs. Anyway a solicitor is not supposed to incur costs without asking your FIL first, a solicitor must at all times act on instructions. It is not like in a bar where you put your card on the tap. I think this is very odd. If your useless BIL can't pay, surely he is eligible to legal aid anyway? There is also legal insurance available I think

MW this afternoon, can't wait

Bramshott · 01/04/2008 11:10

Hello! Sorry for thread-crashing - I am not here, as DD2 is just 1 and I am on the April 07 threads. I was just popping by because your thread titles always make me laugh (and I know how difficult it is to think of amusing thread titles on an ongoing basis!). Good luck with the babies!

aberdeenhiker · 01/04/2008 11:23

congrats nettie!

Oh I had a horrible time with the Avent one! It just didn't fit my breasts so I couldn't use the comfort gel-type insert and had to use the hard plastic. Ouch! I had the hand pump and the electric pump versions, the electric one completely burned out on me when I was using it regularly though so I would definitely not recommend it.

This time I've picked up a Tommee Tippee one for £10 that I'll try, but if it's no better I think I'll call the breastfeeding counsellors and see if I can trial pumps.

Does anyone have any other pump recommendations for someone with small breasts?
