For those of us with 3 months to go or less....

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
aberdeenhiker · 09/04/2008 14:10

oh yes! lovely weather would be so nice. It was gorgeous when I had DS two years ago and he and I got to hang out in the park for the first month of his life. Last summer on the other hand...

needahand · 09/04/2008 14:27

ktpie when the flip flop arrive, just say they are for your hospital bag and that you saw on mumsnet that you needed to wear flip flops in the shower in hospital (mind you considering there was blood on the floor of the delivery suite I was in last night I can kind of see the point!)

ktpie · 09/04/2008 14:40

needahand that might have worked better if they weren't fancy leather ones! He had a look at my list of essential items to take into hospital the other day and saw flip flops on there and said "well that is one thing you can tick off, you have loads" - how little he understands!

aberdeenhiker · 09/04/2008 14:52

ktpie - they never do!

was it someone on here who'd bought three changing bags? I've got three as well (and am finally happy with the third) and my DH does not get it at all. Fortunately he drools over bits of kit for his road bike so lets me get away with it.

Josie57 · 09/04/2008 14:52

Men will never understand women's essential need for shoes

debinaustria · 09/04/2008 14:55

OK, maybe the 100cm rule was slightly off!!

Just returned from speech therapist with Tristan, she was pleased with work he'd been doing but we are still trying to get him to say the c/k sound and g sound(he's 6 years old). whenever he tries it makes him feel sick and starts gagging, like when you stick your toothbrush too far back etc.. anyway she's also an osteopath as she says it's all connected to she had a feel of the muscles in his neck and asked me questions about his birth. Anyway to cut an already long post short - she surmised that due to his v quick labour his neck had been affected, which had a knock on effect with digestion(he had bad colic and cried a lot as a baby). Now the result is that his muscles are very tight, it makes the area where he should make the sounds (g/c) very sensitive but we can do something about it, so she got him on the massage table and showed me stretches to do with him.

So, the moral of the tale is if you have a very quick labour, and after 3/4 weeks baby is still very unsettled, colicky, then see a cranial osteopath. I feel so bad that we didn't as it could have saved poor Tristan all these problems, but at least it's been recognised now and we can do something about it. Apparently in CH Ernest as part of the Mutter Kind pass alternative you have to see an osteopath with baby as a matter of course - is that right?

Now back to all your messages -

Makecakes - sorry you're feeling low with your spd, bought anything nice on Ebay?

Nettie - Happy Birthday for tomorrow - you make me feel so old

Aberdeen lol at the computer cable measuring story!!Enjoy your holiday.

Rolf - thanks for sharing your measurement!!

Josie - your ds is doing really well, he sounds so sweet

G43 - I think the offer's too good to miss too!!

Needahand - feeling much better thanks, you are definitely right to go and get checked as you went into labour early last time, you're not being paranoid.

Sybil - sorry you have no chance of a getaway - does having your Mil to stay mean that she'll be able to help you"nest" or is she not that sort of Mil?

Ernest glad you've got the removals sorted and you're tackling your keller!! GOOD LUCK with the party, I like the idea of having one for the neighbouring children when you move to Munich(saw your other post)

Upsidedown bless your ds - waking up to check on you!!

Dramaqueen - spoilsport for not measuring

Ktpie - you could say that the new flip flops are essential for your hospital bag, as all your others are just too old.

PHEW that took a long time

needahand · 09/04/2008 15:02

Debs I agree with the cranial osteopath. DD had colics as well (well my theory is that doctors call colics any "unidentifiable and continued crying). The HV recommended a cranial osteopath. After the third week of DD crying all day (and sometimes all night) I was desperate and booked an emergency appointment. I never ever understood how it worked and the sceptical in me felt like laughing during the sessions but boy did they work. DD was very relaxed during the sessions (so much so she used to do nuclear poos) and after about 6 the crying just stopped from one day to the other and as a bonus she slept through the night. Like you I would not recommend enough going to a cranial osteopath. Mine was a godsend to me.

aberdeenhiker · 09/04/2008 15:02

Just to second the osteopath recommendation, we took my son to an osteopath after he and DH were in a bike accident when DS was 11 months old (they were fine - but we wanted to get him checked out) and were really happy with the care and non-interventionist approach. I will definitely be taking in this next baby if I have any concerns at all! She basically checked him for muscular imbalance and then gave him a wee massage to relax an area that was tight. He didn't mind at all too and sat happily in my lap the whole time!

ktpie · 09/04/2008 15:16

Aberdeen - my DH is the same about bike stuff, but mountain bikes in his case, he will probably just laugh about the flip flops, they are only 99p after all! I'm gathering together a pile of baby stuff in the dining room and I have noticed that amongst the boxes he has sneaked in a box of new forks for his bike, like I won't notice that!

Debs - glad you are managing to get him sorted, hadn't heard of cranial osteopaths until I discovered mumsnet, now I am intrigued.

Josie57 · 09/04/2008 15:40

Don't get me started on bike stuff . My dh and I both used to be competitive cyclists and had 8 bikes between us . Fortunately when we decided to move house we did manage to sell/dispose of 4 of them but we still have boxes full of 'kit' and that's without taking into account all the cupboard space taken up with specialist clothing. On the plus side we are probably saving ourselves a fortune now that we are no longer competing or even training . However, I have noticed a tendency now for my dh to order power tools so I guess if it's not one thing it's another!

Interesting to hear your thoughts on cranial osteopathy as I was a big sceptic but you guys have definitely swayed my opinion.

needahand · 09/04/2008 16:07

josie I was a bit sceptical about the cranial osteopath as well as I had never heard of them before HV recommended one. During the first session as I said I had to stop myself from laughing as the osteopath had his eyes closed and was humming a little. He was just touching DD lightly so I really didn't understand how it could possibly work. But I guess it is one of these things that you don't need to understand to believe in. A little modern day magic.

Lol at the bikes's stuff, soon it will be replace by baby stuff.

and 99p for leather flip flops? Must have a look!

Josie57 · 09/04/2008 16:11

I'm very excited, my parents have just bought my ds the most amazing swing/slide set. See link below - it's the phoenix one. He just loves the outdoors and absolutely loves the slide at the park so I think he is going to love this. What a lucky little boy and what fab parents

Just had news that my friend in Devon that was due on Tuesday last week finally had a little girl last night - but she went into labour on Saturday night . Unfortunately due to the long labour, she ended up in hospital, so the home/water birth didn't go according to her plans - but both mother and baby are doing well. Hopefully I will get some details from her once she is home and settled, but I know that she will be dissapointed that they didn't get to stay at home.
On the plus side - I should remember the baby's birthday - it's so close to mine!

PiggyPenguin · 09/04/2008 16:40

Crikey Josey you must have the worlds most enormous garden!! I could probably just about fit that in my little patch, but I definitely wouldn't be able to put the rotary dryer up afterwards.

Rolf · 09/04/2008 16:45

Josie - what a brilliant climbing frame - lucky DS . When we moved to this house we thought we'd stay for a bit then move somewhere with a bigger garden, but now we just can't imagine facing another move/renovation (so Ernest, you REALLY have my sympathy). But when I see something like that I'm very tempted to go for the bigger garden!

Interesting about the cranial osteopathy. I took DS1 and thought it helped him. Haven't taken the others though but they were much "easier" babies.

ktpie · 09/04/2008 16:50

Josie - there are currently 4 bikes in our little house but that is just due to lack of space, if we had more room I am sure he would have more.
That slide set looks great. You will have all the kids coming round for a go. I'm not sure it would fit in mine and the neighbours yards combined!

Needahand - I lost out on the flip flops, wasn't you was it!

Nettiehay - congratulations to your friend!

needahand · 09/04/2008 16:51

Nope I am an ebay virgin, I have never tried!

ktpie · 09/04/2008 17:06

You are best staying that way, it is far too addictive!

bitofadramaqueen · 09/04/2008 17:48

Busy afternoon girls - is everyone on maternity leave apart from me?

Sorry for being a spoilsport aberdeen - but if I know my size it'll only depress me and send me reaching for more chocolate .

We had new team photos taken at work yesterday and I just look so lardy. I opted to sit down, which hid my bump so I dont even look pregnant. I know its vain but it really depressed me. Anyone got bigger 'all-round'? Sure my arms, shoulders, face, hips, bum and thighs all 'rounder' as well as bump and boobs. Yeah, yeah, it'll all be worth it in the end!

REally told somone (a senior bod in the company) off earlier when he made a joke about me looking like I was carrying triplets!

Parofleurmapu · 09/04/2008 18:01

well im feeling absolutely cream crackered. I was going to work up to end of May but think will have to finish first week of may after my next appointment as my ankles are the size of ... well i dont know but darling dp says they remind him of that eddie murphy Proffesor film where he blows up!!!! (charming!)
Dr has said though that they are "ok" not to do with BP just pregnancy legs but it makes working with 25 3 year olds extremly difficult

Re spa, i wanted to go here for a weekend soon but when i phoned up they said i would only be able to have a massage and if i wanted to do anything else i would have to sign waiver form. Now i no i cant go in sauna or steam room, but there are hot and cold showers, a floating salt water pool and a spa area with jets and bubbles surely this would be ok no? Its just that when i read that some of you were thinking of going i wondered why out here they recommend not too `

goingfor3 · 09/04/2008 18:11

Parofleurmapu I imagine you would have to avoid the spa pool with bubbles as I know jacuzzis are not recommended in pregnancy.

goingfor3 · 09/04/2008 18:13

Something I remebered is that when I gave up work when pregnant with dd1 I had real trouble sleeping as I spent so much time resting! When pregnant with dd2 I didn't have that problem and I'm not this time either which I guess is because I'm so busy with the girls.

thegreenfairy · 09/04/2008 18:33

Evening all
Another nutso day at work but one more day and then another lovely three day weekend. Thank goodness.
Debs, my bump is 106cms so am officially in the drop zone (harhar) but I do think it sounds like an old wive's tale.
ernest - good luck with the house move. I think I'm moving the same weekend as you - but I'm only going round the corner with two pet rats, not to another country with children in tow - so I wish you all the luck in the world.
Only a week now til I finish with my last ever deadline, and three weeks left in the office.
Ahhhhhhh.

thegreenfairy · 09/04/2008 18:35

PS. Am beginning to find sleeping difficult. Cannot lie on my right side for more than a few minutes as LO is ROA, and just wriggles and wriggles.
But if I lie on my left for long then my hip gets sore to the point of waking me, and I can't lie on my back for obvious reasons (not least because it feels like a giant weight is pressing on my spine).
I've been waking nightly for a pee and now I'm struggling to drop off again - awake for at least two hours last night and the night before. Boooooo.

PregnantPenguin · 09/04/2008 19:26

Aberdeen Hiker - 3 changing bags, that was me. In my defence, one came with the pushchair and I don't like it. Got one Oi Oi one from ebay which was ok (black with grey spots, lime lining) but looked so functional. The final one was from ASOS.com and is basically a large handbag - I love it! And the Oi Oi functional bits such as changing mat and bottle holder fit inside it nicely...

Like a few of you my DH has a bike fetish. When justifying the bags, I suggested he could get one of his own as well, he pointed out a 'bladder' bag things for over £100! Perhaps he was planning on filling the bladder with breast milk.

Nettiehay - congratulations to your friend!

Dramaqueen - Hope this makes you feel better: I was moaning about the tube (again!) at work today and boss said "what's the problem, most carriages have double doors don't they!!??". Actually made me laugh to be honest, but what a cheeky bu99er.
