Good news on the job Josie...

Sorry you are gutted Debs, but totally understand why. Sending you virtual hugs.

Does anyone else need more space in their ribcage?

Been to the doc and he has given me what feels like a years supply of paracetamol, and a slow-release painkiller that will help me get through the night. Hopefully a little more sleep will give a little more perspective!! I have the obstetrician on Monday to 'discuss my options'...but first I have my baby shower on Saturday. Hurrah!

PS- why does everyone have a comment to make on my bump? Oh- you're very big! 8 weeks left- don't think you'll last that long! You're carrying very low- any day now, I'd say! Blah blah blah. What do these people know that I don't???

whinegums · 07/04/2008 18:36

Makecakes - they know NOTHING! Only how to be a pain in the ass of course....

thegreenfairy · 07/04/2008 18:37

makes cakes hardly a day goes by that I don't get some moronic comment on the size of my bump - be it 'you're massive' or 'you're not very big'. Ignore them all. They don't know what they're talking about.

On the hunt for organic maternity pads now. Waitrose have got an offer on paraben and SFS free baby toiletries at the mo - the brand is earth friendly baby if anyone wants to save some cash!

debinaustria · 07/04/2008 19:39

Boys were fine about it Josie but as they went to bed Stefan said" we all wanted a girl didn't we?" Needless to say I was very positive about the fact he's getting a brother instead!!

Rolf · 07/04/2008 19:51

Sorry you're feeling sad, Deb. I'm sure it's good that you're being so honest about it. DH and I have both been a bit freaked out at having a girl but we get in a state about actually fessing up to it.

PregnantPenguin · 07/04/2008 20:33

Josie - Personally I'd probably wait until I came back. Just so that you're not expected to remember/know too much about your new role when you get back. If it's something relatively new, it could mean less pressure on those first few days back...? That's my plan anyway: My role will be diff when I go back, but I'm not starting it now.

Debs - I know exactly what you mean. I was convinced that this LO was a girl. I had names and everything, when the sonographer was pointing out the meat and two veg, all I wanted to say is 'are you sure?'. I don't think I really believed it for a good few days. Fine with it now though (10 weeks later!). Trust me, with three strapping lads, you'll end up with plenty of girls hanging around in 10-15 years time!

Makecakes - Can't find them now, but there are some great threads about how to respond to bump comments. I like the idea of pretending to take them very seriously and asking them if you should ring your midwife and did they have any other medical advise they could offer with their considerable experience!? Or just start crying (I can pretty much cry on demand right now), no one will say anything again if you do that just the once!

Greenfairy - Thanks for the tip - will check out waitrose.

LOL pp at suggestions on responding to bump comments!

Off now to see if I can somehow manage to fit in a trip to waitrose...

libralady · 07/04/2008 22:06

Thanks for all the messages re cramp.

I've just had a banana so hopefully things will improve tonight.

Hubby was a bit disappointed when I said I need to have a banana and he got his hopes up

Need an early night in preparation for DS's birthday tomorrow.

Night Night.

debinaustria · 08/04/2008 06:17

Morning everyone, feeling brighter today.

LL - hope your ds has a great birthay and lol at your dh and the banana comment!! Did the banana make a difference to the cramp?

Must do serious tidying up today, place is a tip.

sophiewd · 08/04/2008 07:50

Morning all, glad you are feeling brighter Deb.

Random thought/tip of the day (esp fro first timers) don't panic if your children do something odd, DD's favourite hat at the moment is one of those cardboard vomit bowls you get in hopsitals/doctors and she has never had a dummy but currently using a wooden mushroom for one.

debinaustria · 08/04/2008 08:00

Does your dd wear the "hat" out of the house, or even worse - down to breakfast with your guests??

sophiewd · 08/04/2008 08:08

Oh yes. She won't have a bath without one of her hats on (usually a woolly one) always has to wear one in bed, in school, gets very upset if she does'nt have one.

aberdeenhiker · 08/04/2008 08:10

morning everyone, deb - glad you're feeling brighter today. That's got to be the advantage of finding out the gender earlier!

I've put my 7 month bump on my profile here now. It seems to look big sometimes and small at other points, just depending on the angle I think. I'm completely ignoring comments about my bump size because they don't mean a thing - who ever remembers exactly how pregnant a woman is supposed to look at 31 weeks anyways?

pp - I like the break-into-tears idea!

Josie57 · 08/04/2008 08:17

Morning all,

Glad you are feeling brighter today Debs.

Sophie LOL at your daughter's choice of hats!

I'm off to a breastfeeding class for the day SHould be fun, seems a bit weird going second time round but I've probably got more specific questions I want answered this time - so the teacher had better watch out!

Hope you all have a lovely day.

makecakesnotwar · 08/04/2008 08:28

Morning all-

I am a total space cadet this morning...whatever the doctor gave me yesterday gave me the weirdest dreams, but I did get a reasonable night's sleep.

Off to 'work' today (hopefully the last time I have to travel) so will have to catch up with you all later.

DQ- if you want to email me direct fr the list, my email is 'a helping hand at inbox dot com'

Upsidedowncake · 08/04/2008 08:43

Good morning

LOL. Hats, Sophie. DS won't wear them unless it's really really cold.

Debs, glad you're feeling better. I recently read this article in the Times, about how women at either end of a bell curve may get the sex of baby that suits your personality ...

Upsidedowncake · 08/04/2008 08:50

Oh and I thought I'd give you an update on DS's potty training. DS is nearly 29 months.

Friday and Saturday worked like a dream - one accident, and otherwise he was totally in control.

Sunday, he flatly refused to wear pants at all and wanted to wear nappies and be carried around in my arms all day. He also sucked his thumb and dragged around an old blanket which he decided to name 'Rabbity' ...

Yesterday he went to nursery and had mixed success: Three accidents and three hole-in-ones. I came to pick him up just after the second accident and he was very upset. He then had another accident in Sainsbury's, poor chap. But he loved his sticker chart that nursery made.

This morning, he is wearing pants but under protest ...

Anyone got any stories to compare - should I post this on a potty-training thread really?

Upsidedowncake · 08/04/2008 09:07

Hello. I've started a potty-training thread so as not to bore all the first timers!

sophiewd · 08/04/2008 09:17

Still dithering about potty training, she tells us when she has done a poo and when her nappy is too wet but no inclinatino for telling us before, saw some waterproof training pants in mothecare the otherday and tempted to get some, I know nursery will be supportive about it and have already said that she is ready.

nettiehay · 08/04/2008 10:21

Morning all - I've had a hectic couple of days. DP was due back at Gatwick lunchtime on Sunday from his week skiing holiday with FIL, but of course his flight was delayed and then cancelled thanks to the little amount of snow we had (which infuriatingly had melted by the time his flight should have landed anyway!). Anyway, he managed to get rebooked on a flight - to land at 10.30pm in Bristol! So off i trekeed to MIL's late on Sunday and then we picked him up from Bristol when his flight landed at 11.15pm. Consequently we stayed at MIL's on Sunday night and travelled back to London in the peak hour traffic yesterday morning.
We had to be back by 10am, as we had the first antenatal class. So I am now officially freaked out by the whole birth process - the midwife who took the class was very good and reassuring, but it is still a bit scary! Why do they start the classes with the scary stuff? Next week they go on to pain control - why talk about that after talking about the birth - surely they go hand in hand?
Anyway, a hectic start to the week, with even more to come, with a trip to London for a charity ball committee meeting tomorrow night and then my b'day on Thursday and drinks over the weekend with friends... I'm already exhausted!
Hope all are well and struggling through... just think, not long now before we meet our babies!

josey · 08/04/2008 10:36

Just had a quick read through ...debs glad you feel better today and congrants on another blue....I felt exactly the same when we found out its strange really hormones huh

Upsidedown....I think its a protest thing DD went through a few perfect days then had a few back track but after that she had a massive break through and has never turned back.

Sophie those training pants are good for outings once potty training is under way but they do leak massively if anything other than a trickle.

Anyway news here is DH Gran passed away last night....thankfully he had made it home as his job was cancelled and I didnt have to make a dreaded phonecall.

libralady · 08/04/2008 10:37

Morning all,

The banana worked!!!!!!!!!!! No cramp whatsoever, just had to get up for the usual 4 o'clock pee.

DS is really excited today and he's gone off to nursery clutching his bag of Cadbury's chocolcates to give to the children later.

Will pick him up at midday and plan to take him to Farmer Palmers for the afternoon before the family descend on us later.

Supposed to be doing the house work but thought I'd have a quick cath up on MN.

Debs, glad you're feeling a bit brighter today.

libralady · 08/04/2008 10:39

josey sorry we cross posted. Sorry about DH's Gran. At least she is out of her suffering now, and DG is coming back.

nettiehay · 08/04/2008 10:43

Josey, sorry about DH's gran - but as libralady said, at least she sin't suffering (and thankfully events conspired so that you didn't have to make that dreaded call)

sophiewd · 08/04/2008 10:56

Oh have fun at Farmer Palmers Libralady, DD loves it there, maybe we willhave to meet up smetime as can get 2 adults in free and kids.
