Babes in Scotland this year - shall we have our own thread?

Hi, I can't see any up to date antenatal threads for mums to be in Scotland, anyone want to join in this one? I think there are a few Scottish mums on the due in June thread, so I wondered if we should have our very own for all of this year's Scottish crop?

can I join in too? I'm in Glasgow due 26th June with my first. Not too worried about going to the hospital as I work in one, just glad that I'm not having baby in this one!

The only problem is that as I know lots of doctors, I'm told that they tend to just pop in outside of visiting hours... think I'll have to ban them from visiting at inopportune moments - it's already in my birth plan that there are to be no students present!

gingerwench · 17/03/2008 15:47

I'm in Edinburgh and due 29 May with my first so can I join it too?

monthlymayhem · 17/03/2008 16:55

Paranoid1st - hang in there, won't be long now! I'm blowing labour vibes in your direction..

I'm the opposite - due date tomorrow, but hoping LO is a good few days late (but not late enough to need induced please) so that we have a hope of getting our bathroom finished. Have had a very stressful day - long story short: new toilet has a leak, so old one had to go back in and only works by flushing with a bucket at the moment Drove to supplier warehouse after almighty argument on phone and sat outside in tears until they did something. End result was a shiny new replacement which will hopefully get plumbed in tonight

Hope everyone else is ok

carolcupcake · 17/03/2008 19:59

Hi LauraT,

I know what you mean, during my last labour I knew everyone who came through the door of my labour room and kept saying "Oh I know you!" and them not recognising me cos I looked sooo awful and then me and DH bumping into all of them at work and socially. Especially embarrassing bumping into the anaesthetist who was trying to do my epidural while I shouted "There is something between my legs!!!" like a banshee over and over again......it was a pillow between my legs, oh the shame......he reminds me of it every time I see him.

LauraT · 18/03/2008 10:15

2 of my good friends are delighted as they will have rotated to be covering the neonatal unit in June and they seem to think they'll be popping in left right and centre. I think i'll have to pay of the midwives to keep them away!

Hoggle · 18/03/2008 11:32

Oooh, lovely to see thread full of places and words I actually recognise! I'm a transplanted weegie, but living down south these days. My first baby is due in June, and it's making me really homesick!

Suspect I'll be moving home sooner rather than later. Sorry for crashing your thread .

josey · 18/03/2008 20:25

hi everyone not been on for a few days so just catching up

Lol carolcupcake you must cringe everytime you see the guy.

Also planning a home birth here both labours have been 3 hours I dont fancy the journey to hospital this time and I was told if my birth was as straight forward as before I could go home 4 hours later so really what would the point be?

Having a really fed up few days not enjoying being pregnant just now Im getting fed up of people saying Im huge and how long left when I say they look horrified which im damping the mood even more hohum will just pack some more chocolate down me gob that might help!!

Klaw · 18/03/2008 20:35

mumofdjandpandbump I am just over an hour from Bannockburn where Ds's dad lives and regularly travel there! There are also other Doulas who cover Stirling area so call some and/or me....

whinegums · 19/03/2008 11:27

Hello everyone, hi LauraT saw you on the June thread, and I'm in Glasgow too. Which hospital do you work in, if you don't mind me asking?

Hope everyone is planning a nice weekend - I'm off from the end of today til Tuesday, really looking forward to Easter (and the chocolate eggs).

we rotate round every few months, currently in sunny(?) Crosshouse and hating the commute. Don't know anything about the Ayrshire maternity hospital though, I keep away from that bit! Where are you delivering?

whinegums · 19/03/2008 12:19

Sunny? Ha! I'm booked for the Southern General - what about you?

Queen Mum's. I know a few people who worked at the SGH in O and G, and they speak highly of the department. - watch out at your next appointment btw - they introduced parking charges a couple of weeks ago, make sure you've got at least a pound in your purse!

whinegums · 19/03/2008 14:20

I hear mixed reports about SGH, but have come to the conclusion it's the same everywhere - if you're expecting 5 star luxury, you're going to be disappointed, but if you're realistic it should be ok. I'm trying to find out about waterbirth there, some people say they definitely won't let you do it, but I'll be seeing my mw soon and I'll ask her.

Thanks for the tip on parking charges - last time the meter next to the mat unit was broken. I wouldn't mind paying a pound if I could actually get a space there!

Laura I was born in the QM so it must be a great hospital lol!

mumofdjandpandbump · 19/03/2008 17:48

HI all

hope youre all well

KLAW please CAT me

Paranoid1stTimer · 20/03/2008 14:23

Hallo there everyone.

People seem to be deserting to other threads at the moment so I hope someone is still interested in this one...

I had my last MW appt today and she did a sweep.... My my that was uncomfortable - I really hope it works though. I had some cramping as soon as I left but it hasnt really kicked in at all so I am trying to move around and be energetic which is a chore at the moment.

I am just getting really worried about the baby now that time is marching on (pardon the march pun there) so am really really willing LO to release that hormone and get out here so we can see it. I am wishing too that I had got one of those doppler machines that I was so not bothered about at the start...

The movements are a lot less now that there is literally no room in there for LO to move. At least I have found out LO is 3/5 engaged rather than just "brimming" like last week so maybe LO will arrive with natures help rather than the help of a big drip full of artificial hormones...

Anyway, I hope you are all enjoying the little rays of sunshine we have seen over the past day or two... Wonder if the arctic freeze will happen this weekend - if so, guaranteed I will go into labour and be snowed in!!!! Actually - shouldnt even joke about that.

Take care

sweetkitty · 20/03/2008 15:15

Paranoid1st - hopefully you won't have much longer of a wait, I know what it's like being overdue it's a nightmare. I'm never having another sweep ever.

Not much to report here back to normal weather wise today maybe April will bring some spring sunny weather.

Klaw · 21/03/2008 11:11

mumofdjandpandbump Have CAT'd you

aberdeenhiker · 21/03/2008 11:52

Good luck paranoid1st - I didn't get a sweep until i was in labour and by that point I was ready to try anything to speed the process up - but I can imagine it's way more uncomfortable when you're not contracting!

Anyways, have a great Easter everyone! Even though it's not a holiday up here it sure is quiet at work!

Jennylee · 22/03/2008 16:37

I went to babybond in Livingston today for a gender scan, it went well it is a girl and the service was wonderful, so I would say to anyone that it is worth doing if you are dying to know the gender, however I feel a bit flat, cannot imagine a little girl, thought another Ds would be great but I will rise to it I'm sure. I just can't get my head around pink stuff and DH is a bit miffed with me for not being totally filled with joy.

dizzychixies · 22/03/2008 18:20

ah jennylee, once she's here you won't be able to remember not having a house in a pink explosion!!!

haven't heard from paranoid for a few days, wonder if things are happening for her

Jennylee · 22/03/2008 19:14

paranoidfirstimer hope all is well with you.
Dizzy I am feeling better now after fell asleep for 3 hours think I was a bit tired which made me feel more underwhelmed

dizzychixies · 22/03/2008 20:25

Jennylee its quite a lot to take in regardless of the sex, it makes it all more real and when you've had it in your head one way or another it can be a bit of a shock - don't beat yourself up about it

Jennylee · 22/03/2008 23:28

thanks am feeling better now, it made it worse going into mothercare afterwards with my excited parents who started thrusting pink stuff at me lol

josey · 23/03/2008 10:37

Happy Easter everyone.

Paranoid hope all is well and you have a lovely easter baby in your arms by now.

Jennylee I felt the same, Have a ds and when expecting dd could think of having a girl when she was born though I shocked myself at how girly I became after never being pink andfluffy myself. We had one of those scans a few weeks ago and found out having another girl I was quite flat about the whole thing I was sure it was a boy, now im hoping ds will be protective bigbro and the sisters will be great friends yeah right who am I kidding!!!
