Wonder how many posts we will get before we can start the post natal one.

Come on girls, keep getting jiggy and eating those curries.

Oh I'm worrying about smiling too - and eye contact and tracking. I've only seen him follow someone's face with his eyes once or twice and he shows very little interest in my or DP's faces. Always stares intently at the same spots in the house but that doesn't mean he's seeing more than light and shadow. And as for smiles - like those first movements in pregnancy very hard to say for sure. Oh well - "don't worry" I suppose.

Had our six week check last week (drop-in) and we waited in the 'wrong bit' for 2 hours. First to arrive and last to leave....

We haven't moved into 0-3 clothes yet so good work Egg!

Egg · 10/03/2008 12:57

But Malcolm is still a BABY, mine are so OLD now .

DH got me v worried on Sat night saying he thought DD couldn't see properly. DS2 clearly stares at us, esp when feeding, he tracks really well and it is obvious he sees fine. DD stares into the middle distance mainly. I spent ages sitting with her and trying to get her to track, even though i was sure she had done it before. This was about 9pm.

Next morning she was tracking fine, not as much as DS2 but he looks about double her age and I think will be ahead of her on most things. Will be asking doc to check on Weds to set my mind at rest.

at you sitting in the wrong bit. I am dreading both of mine screaming while we wait to go in. Ok if just one as can pick up and cuddle, but I CAN'T PICK THEM BOTH UP (sure other twin mums can but not me).

OP posts:
Egg · 10/03/2008 12:58

Sorry, hope I wasn't being patronising calling Malc a baby, I just meant he is a couple of weeks younger so is still on track with his smiling, mine are practically getting their pensions now...

leesmum - my emotions on motherhood are mixed. I don't feel likke I've bonded properly with DD. It's wierd but it feels like I'm babysitting someone elses child. I desperately want to feel like a mom but it hasn't happened yet! I do love her though.

Gill79 · 10/03/2008 13:42

well the doc said that developmentally we should treat him as a four week old not 6 if that helps! So yours 6 not 9. Which means that the yet-to-be-repeated Malcolm Rolls Over Event happened on the day he was born!

Egg · 10/03/2008 13:58

Yep and mine were puking three weeks before they were born . Well that's good news, we were never too sure.

Just steam cleaned my carpets. Can hear someone crying upstairs. They normally sit down here during the day but the fumes from the carpet cleaner are a bit strong.

Talking of sitting down here in day, what are people normally doing about sleeps in day. Do you let the baby just nod off when they fancy. Do you put them in the cot for a specific sleep. Do you let them sleep wherever they like (within reason...).

OP posts:
Egg · 10/03/2008 14:07

PK, I know what you mean about babysitting someone else's baby. I feel a lot more "distant" with these two than I did with DS1, but I think it's because I just don't have the time to sit and cuddle them as much as I did with him. I do make sure that we have some cuddling time, but when DS1 is here I spend my time with him and only do what is "necessary" for the babies.

When I am cuddling them though, I always think that I should do it more, as it is so nice, and I feel like I bond more with them then. When DS2 actually SMILED at the weekend I was overwhelmed with love all over again, so maybe when Kya starts to smile at you the bonding will start getting stronger.

rozzyraspberry · 10/03/2008 14:20

Egg - ds3 will not sleep in his bed during the day at all. He'll sleep in baby carrier, or car seat or on someone generally. Having that day to yourself whilst they're all at nursery will be nice!! Having my older 2 at nursery for 2 1/2 hours each day is such a godsend. I am lucky that DH is here most days as he does shift work so I only have all 3 on my own for 2 days and 2 nights a week.

We had to put lo in 0 -3 month clothes at 2 weeks - it's not that he's particularly long or heavy - just that he's long in the body if you know what I mean so it was getting tricky to fasten the poppers on his vests and sleepsuits (which is still all he's wearing although he has got a dashing pair of dungarees on today).

PK - I'm sure you're doing fine - you maybe just expected to all of a sudden feel differently when lo was born. I still don't feel like a mum even after third ds - I love them and think I do an ok job but still feel the same as I did before - just with more responsibilities!!

Redbush · 10/03/2008 14:47

Hi all, Sorry haven't had time to keep up with the news - just done a quick scan of the new thread and wondering if you are still waiting Jay's third? I was 10 days over and due to be induced last Thurs (6th) had sweep on Tues and then tried some parsley tea !!!! Basically flat leaf parsley chopped approx desertspoon full. In tea pot and boiling water then strain and sip - not large amounts as supposedly pretty strong! Sweep was Tues am - uncomfortable all afternoon started parsley tea. Mild contractions started at 10pm and grew stronger until about 3am when they slowed down again. Went into unit for a trace at 6am (Wed) as baby was very quiet and there had been some concerns when they did a trace on Tues am so didn't want to take any chances. Trace showed baby ok and gentle contractions. Waters broke of their own accord at 8.15am (Wed morning. Midwife not particularly experienced!! Contractions got considerably stronger and by 9.30am every couple of minutes. Had asked at what point she would consider examining me to see if dilating and she said after 2-3 hrs of strong contractions!!! or if I decided I wanted pain relief!! At 9.45 definitely wanted pain relief but it was a bit late as in second stage!! Our second little lady "popped" out at 10.58am. Weighing in at 8lb 10oz - exactly the same as her big sister but a blondy. We've called her Annabel Holly. It's been a bit rough since we got home (7pm Wed) as she wouldn't let us put her down at all. Will only sleep if being held and feeding every 1-2hrs. So no real sleep for us. Plus DD1 was sick in the night on Sat and of course DD2 wouldn't be put down so all a bit traumatic as I felt I had deserted DD1. However blue skies on the horizon. DD2 is currently happily asleep in her carrycot - let me have 3 hrs sleep last night in one go and generally much more contented. Hoping will get a bit more sleep from now on!

Hope everybody is well and lo's thriving - sorry haven't kept up with it all - if you're still waiting give the parsley a try!!

beansprout · 10/03/2008 14:57

You lot are fab, you always talk about the very thing that is worrying me! I also have that "looking after a baby" feeling a bit too and ds2 is nearly 7 weeks. I take good care of him but still haven't had the bolt of lightning. I do have fewer days where I think he is "funny looking" though, so that's progress!!

I also can't get naps sorted AT ALL. Are there really babies that just nod off in their cots?!! Ds2 will sleep on anyone and in the sling but I can't get him to nap for long and it takes a lot of effort to get him to nod off. I never sussed it with ds1 either really. I am a bit ambivalent about setting up a nap pattern that is restrictive though, then again, it will give me periods of time for ds1 which would be good. What is everyone else doing?!

Redbush - congratulations!!

Egg - I would still use adjusted ages for developmental stuff, so would think that your dts may or may not be smiling at this stage. Ds2 smiles a bit but not much and not in relation to very much!!

wotsits · 10/03/2008 15:18

Congratulations, Redbush! DS was like that, not wanting to be put down. 3 weeks on, he's still not so good about sleeping in his moses basket (

omy · 10/03/2008 16:11

PK!! So glad you are well. Was a bit worried! LOVE your arty pictures - You both look gorgeous!

omy · 10/03/2008 16:44

Egg - seriously challenging morning - and then you go and spend your precious free time steam cleaning the carpet! What happened to going to for a spa treatment!?

How incredibly annoying to wait in the wrong place for 2 hours!

i went to the baby clinic for the 1st time today - 10.1lbs at 4 weeks - so am pleased. They were very helpful with the bf colicky problem as well - dumb me was only feeding her for 10 mins and she needs 1/2 an hour! duh - so the afternoon stress was actually starvation! poor little mite.

Bean and pk - our LO gets called 'frog' or 'chairman Mao' (due to hair thinning on top and bushy at sides) or Edward G Robinson (baddie in Key Largo) depending on which funny face she is pulling. I don;t think there is a bolt out of the blue - it creeps up on you. It has been sweet watching DH and my big daughters gradually get hooked!

tyaca · 10/03/2008 17:07

ok - on borrowed time here. if this post finishes midway thru a sentence, pls forgive. dd asleep but know i'm jinxing by trying to type

pk - SO good to hear from you,. glad u ok. fab pics. both my sil and mil told me it took them more than a month with theirs.

feel almost like a person today. have had a poo (first onem, not as bad as thought), last night best yet. gotta go

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 10/03/2008 17:30

PK welcome back!!!! your pics are gorge!!!

been to baby clinic also today dd is 4weeks4days and is weighing 9lb9oz!! so doing really well!!!

~Oh any one using dentinox colic drops? i have been using them since friday and have to say they are fantastic- really helping with DD's wind- just add to bottle or give direct from syring thats provided - makes such a diff- much better than infacol i have found.

hope all well

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 10/03/2008 17:31

Hi Redbush! Congratulations on the birth of Annabel Holly! 'popped out' Is I hope an undertstatement - otherwise i am very !

Sarah - hadn't heard of dentinox - will try them!

omy · 10/03/2008 19:05

Princess & Jay very quiet.......

beansprout · 10/03/2008 19:21

We have just started on the Infacol which is helping a bit but even so, happy hour is still continuing, unabated...

Dh has lost the remote control for the tele but is insisting it is "misplaced" rather than lost. In his world, this actually means something. So, not annoying then. Gah.

LOVEMYMUM · 10/03/2008 19:36

Hi everyone.

B/F Katie every 3 hours or so and am knackered, so apologies for not posting as much as before. Sleep and eating comes first for the time being.

Want to catch up on the posts and looking forward to reading everyone's news. Am settling in at home with my mum here daily to cook and hold the baby and DH bonding with Katie very well, including nappy changes and bathing her.

Am living in disposable knickers, dressing-gown and nursing bra - no point in getting dressed and i can't be bothered anyway!

Bye for now.

Jaysthird · 10/03/2008 19:39

don't want to bore you with my continuous moaning about how fed up i am!!!

Still here,

'D' Day looms......

Redbush many congrats to you and your family you and my friend (in RL) have chosen the same name for your bubs!

Oh yeah, my friend - who incidentally was due 2 weeks AFTER ME ...gave birth today, baby girl 8lb 12.......obviously happy for her, but just reminds me i am still freaking pregnant!!!

Have had third sweep and eaten two whole pinapples today....keep eyeing up DH for some more nookie.....!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 10/03/2008 20:12

Oh Jays- Sorry you are so fed up!!!

Don't help your friend has delivered though does it!!!

Do you have any feeling left in your mouth after eating 2 pinapples!! i remember my mouth being so sore as i ate soooo much pinapple!!

Hope DH gets things moving for you

Sending as many labour vibes as poss to you

beansprout · 10/03/2008 21:04

Jays - it's sooo miserable being late and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting.... Ds was due on 5th and arrived on 25th so I feel your pain. This time next week, it will all be a memory (and something you can post on MN to console other MNers in the future!! )

Lovemymum - good to hear from you! Wear that dressing gown with pride!

princessllama · 10/03/2008 21:09

hello, still pg too.
great to hear from you again pk-took me ages to feel like i was the mother with dd-if you start to feel really low though get some help from your hv.
congratulations on the birth of annabelle redbush. gives me hope that maybe someday i will go into labour. will be buying flat leaf parsley tomorrow.
tyaca well done on the first poo. i can remember the elation!
egg def agree with the others re corrected age of the dt's, that's how the professionals see it at this stage.
omy i can recommend 2 great osteopaths just off westbourne grove who have been tutors at the occ on the paediatric masters course there. there names are jenny and phil. the phone no. is 02072298144. if it's colic/windy problems you gen see an improvement after 3 treatments, other stuff can go on longer.
leesmum i asked dh and he sounds a bit non commital-typical politico!
hang in there wotsits, sounds hard at the mo.
jaysthird-i had my third sweep today too. 11 days over now, how about you, lost count with your 2 dates. is it me or do the sweeps get more painful each time? didn't get a definite answer from the dr today about how long over i can go, i suspect thursday may be my deadline it's really getting me down, i was sure it would happen this time. when's your deadline jay?
