Good news about the scan VG.

As for buggies, I have had more than I czn count over the years. I was determined first time around that we would only ever need one - ha! We got a three wheeler at the time and used it from birth. It was ok, but fairly large and unweildy so ended up buying a lighterweight buggy when we went on holiday the first time. Neither lasted that long. I also aquired a wonderful second hand silver cross hardbodied pram when my ds1 was a little older. Loved it for walks, but totally useless for anything else!

When we moved to London when pregnant with ds2, we could no longer use the Silver Cross as it wouldn't fit in the lift. I was devastated so got the next best thing - an Emmaljunga pram. It is gorgeous and lovely to push around. I still have it put away if I want to use it with this baby. We used it with the toddler seat on top as well as the buggy board. However, absolutely useless if you use a car a lot. Also not great on buses.

Sooooooo.....we ended up buying two others at various points. First was the Maclaren Volo which was for ds1 when he was older but still using a buggy. Not suitable from birth as no recline, but incredibly light weight. I was still using that with ds2 until Jan this year when we stopped using a pushcahir. All in all it got about 3.5 years heavy use and was brilliant. But we also needed a reclining one for ds2. So we ended up with the Mamas and Papas Pulse. It is an ecellent buggy and I would highly recommend it. We did get rid of it last year though when we stopped using it and didn't think we would be having another baby.

Sooooooo......here we are expecting baby number three. I have thought about pushchairs. But as I live in central london I think I will hang onto the Emmaljunga for long walks in the park, use slings for public transport and when the baby is old enough not to need a recline, use the Maclaren Volo. So no new purchase for me.

We are also hoping not to buy a car seat. We don't have a car anymore but occasionally use one. We have booster seats for my other boys, but I really don't want to buy a baby car seat that will probably only get used once or twice. My sister in law had a baby in November 07 and I am hoping her baby will have outgrown his by the time we need one and we can ask to use hers.

This baby is turning out ot be cheap!

TwilightSurfer · 21/03/2008 23:34

This stroller looks dreamy but very pricey.

morning girls, just on to see how VG's scan went - glad to see all fine and don't be worrying about being weepy, its probably relief! I was crying at every little thing yesterday as I felt so bloody miserable!!

Anyway, stopped being sick at about 8pm and have managed some cereal this morning - I just went to bed last night after being sick and although not a great sleep it was badly needed as my stomach was so sore I had a hot water bottle on it - now worrying about a boil in the bag baby

feeling 100 times better this morning but going to go easy on the tum - thank you all for your concern, when I phoned NHS 24 they seemed to think non preg related and to reast my stomach, small sips of clear liquid and wash my hands more [humph and cheeky b*stards!]

anyway I had dd2 in with me most of night so if back wasn't sore enough from wretching it is now from being pummled in the night! we all slept fully clothed/socks/extra blankets - gas engineer left after 6pm having condemned boiler and cannot get parts till Tues/Wed at earliest

TS am thinking of packing them all up and coming to stay with you - minus germs of course lol

big consultant apt for my mum today, the chemo hasn't worked this time so we need to see if an operation is optional or if they've done all they can - fingers crossed everyone

wishing you all a healthier, warmer easter weekend than ours has been so far lol

now..........where did I put those eggs, obviously need to replace lost carbs for warmth lol

dizzychixies · 22/03/2008 09:12

ooh ooh prams!!!

I had the Jane 360 matrix powertrack for dd1 and dd2. Just brilliant for us as we live right on coast and walk dog on beach and forest - had a lie flat car seat instead of carry cot which was great for going up and down to my parents - I hate seeing them squished up in car seats for any length of time

here is new version jane what a horrible colour - mine was navy!

have a smaller buggy too bruin as like idea of quinny but didn't like fact it wouldn't recline - this is whats now in car for dd2 who is 22months

am currently trying to convince dh we 'need' a new pram for this one but thats falling on deaf ears due to lack of funding lol

VintageGardenia · 22/03/2008 09:26

dizzy glad you're feeling human again. Next time it happens go to doc or I'll send you to your room.

CC yes I think it is anterior - it's at the front anyway - but I think she did use the word anterior - she said it was cushioning movement by being at the front. Would opposite of anterior be posterior? If so am relieved, last thing I need is anything cushioning my posterior.

Thanks everyone for good scan wishes!

Will look at all the buggy links!

dizzychixies · 22/03/2008 09:31

sending me to my room appeals as thats where the king sized duvet and fleece are lol
you should see the state of us, all fully clothed (sorry, still what we slept in) with dressign gowns on too!! boiler bloke left us a 'heater' = PMSL when I saw it, tis the size of a video player, think they'll all be in with me tonight by the time dh gets home from late shift there will be no room for him!!

this is the one am lusting after looking longingly at now!!

silver cross

Buckets · 22/03/2008 10:00

Dizzy, think cereal and dairy is a bit hard work for a ravaged stomach, go back to the soup for the rest of the day! Have you not got any family you can all descend upon for a day this weekend? Or is it just me that lives 10miles from everyone in mine?

Has anyone had a Graco Mirage before? Think it's about the lightest travel system under £150 so I'm going to see how high the handlebars are this afternoon in a shop (I'm 5'8" and like my heels).

dizzychixies · 22/03/2008 10:09

buckets didn't realise re cereal it was just first thing I fancied. dh's family all in ireland (thank god) and mine are no help. my brother is selfish useless sod, my aunt who normally helps is busy organising lazy cousins wedding and my mum is ill and has big consultant apt at 10.20.

we have a friend who sometimes helps us out but her dad had a stroke just before christmas and don't want to bother her.

we're all still in pyjamas, dh went back to bed for a lie down a wee while ago as he is working a late shift and I'll do as little as possible today - a tv marathon won't hurt them for once will it? I don't want to decend on any of my pals with kids incase I give them this bug.

Buckets · 22/03/2008 12:05

And do try and get some Actimel/probiotics this week, your poor guts probably don't know which way is up so some extra help on the flora front won't hurt.

TwilightSurfer · 22/03/2008 12:27

Dizzy I really like the Jane stroller. It looks a lot like the Bumbleride I've dreamed about.

DD is playing hairdresser this morning and apparently I'm her client. We have an easter egg hunt / birthday party to go to later. DD is all excited about the bunny stopping at our house tonight. She wants to go pick out a special bunch of carrots to leave on the doorstep for the furry creature. The better the carrots the better the surprises he leaves in her bucket.

alittlebitshy · 22/03/2008 13:27

ooh prams. My favourite subject!! I'm not allowed a new one , but let me go through my list (bear in mind i only have one dd at the moment) and you might see why .

britax classical - had carrycot and then used rear/forwared facing seat unit. Used til dd was 16 months when the lack of swivel wheels was rwally really noticable. like this but I had carrycot too and mine was a diffeent fabric

In the meantime i had had a mothercare citlite this

Then when she was 16 months i got what i had been lusting after for ..ooooh 15 months at least, the m and p pliko. Which i love and am hoping dh hasn't piled too much crap on top of it in the annexe (extra loft type storage in our crazily shaped house) so I can use when baby is no longer needing to be flat etc.

Then i got a maclaren triumph which was fab for tubes, buses (airports), and i switched to this full time as oppsed to occasional use just when dd turend 3.

I hope my lovely pram is ok - a spring fell off the chassis but my dad has got a new spring and i hope he can fix it and that it cleans up ok cos I don't like babies NOT lying flat but I'm sure i won't be allowed a new pram if this one is not useable

Buckets · 22/03/2008 15:20

Graco Mirage in shop really impressed me with how light it was even with a carseat on it (wouldn't use it like that often though) and the handles were fine. The 2008 fabric choices are horrid though, like a shell-suit, so am now researching last year's model.

longwayfromhome · 22/03/2008 19:10

Oh, thank you for all the buggy suggestions. I am meant to be working (!) so will look at them all later, but plenty to think about, thank you.

Shazza2002 · 23/03/2008 19:14

Evening ladies

Where is everybody?

Can't believe I've missed out on all the pram talk. But the one I plan to get is the Silver Cross one Dizzy has linked to. Plus they have new colours coming out April/May so gonna have a look at those.

Just going to catch up, I'm surprised you lot found time to make babies if the way you can talk on here now is anything to go by, or did you all discover MN post conception

dizzychixies · 23/03/2008 22:06

evening all, just nipping on to wish you all a Happy Easter. Had a nice day, brother, sil and nephew visited so the kids spent all day hunting eggs in the garden and decorating some baking I'd done - lovely lemon cakes yum yum

stomach def on mend, fingers crossed, and dh doesn't have to go to work tonight after all so a good day all round!

shazza def a post conception find for me, has been my salvation during uncertain early stages and will no doubt be my sounding board when heavy and p*ssed off waiting lol
hope your mum doing ok

Expectant · 24/03/2008 06:01

Thanks for all the buggy posts. DH seems to see this as another gadget so is very keen on chosing (despite the fact it will be me operating it most of the time). There isn't as much selection here as there seems to be in the UK so at the moment we are between bugaboo chameleon and one that is called Orbit Baby - not sure if anyone who is in the US has any advice on this as it doesn't appear to be sold in the UK. Going to test some out when back in the UK next month with SIL as she has 3 month old (nephew).

Getting worried about trip home to UK next month as have been watching the snow on Skynews and all my maternity gear is for 30 degree heat...have to go to nephew's christening and have no idea what to wear...

Also getting very annoyed with people telling me my bump is not very big . Can't wait for next scan on 5 April to make sure everything is ok.

Sorry for long post but haven't posted in a while and fed up having to work today when it should be a Bank Holiday...looking forward to coming back to the UK for 3 weeks as have been feeling particularly homesick at the moment probably mostly to do with preggie hormones.

CaptainCaveman · 24/03/2008 08:59

Morning ladies - we've been up in Cleethorpes for the weekend with 10cms of snow yesterday!!! Poor ds missed it as he stayed at home with my mum.

TS I love the link to the lime green stroller with a stand on bit, wonder if they do that in the UK?

Dizzy, how did your mum get on with her appt?

karney · 24/03/2008 09:43

Mornin everyone, Is it Ok to jump in. Just wanted to join you in the due Aug thread. I,m 19wks pg today!, I,m due 19th Aug.So far everything has gone well with pg apart from m/s that hasn,t quite ever gone away and a rampant bad mood over the past 2 weeks, but hey! look forward to chatting when I can. Happy Easter Monday xxx

dizzychixies · 24/03/2008 09:58

Morning guys

expectant if you;ve not got a great choice (sorry I can't remember where you are ) could you not choose one and buy it when you're over here? Also don't be worrying about the weather, just layer up and chuck on a shawl or cardi or something, we're not quite perishing and I'm north of scotland

Hi karney glad you found us! we're a 'helpful' lot if you like talking about ailments/buggies/matty clothes and donuts

CC how was your night away? at the snow, we just had a few flurries but a lovely day yest and the kids had a great time - apparently nephew wants to do same every easter from now on - considering he is a mardy wee sod who's never pleased thats high praise!

mum's results were not good news but was expected. Her chemo has not worked and scan has shown up 2 new masses in her abdomen and 2 new masses in her lungs. She is terrible for avoiding truths so brother and I have no idea whats going on to be honest am considering phoning consultant myself but have never met this oncologist I only know the bowel guy and not sure if he would tell me anything. Am actually a bit put out as was waiting worried sick to hear from her and she went out to lunch with her sisters and to look at wedding outfits without phoning me and when I phoned was told it was my fault I didn't phone before they went out - my brother had managed to she has spent last 2 days in bed recovering from lunch and going to 2 shops - can't win where my family is concerned and if it wasn't as serious as it was I would be tempted to give up trying sometimes - sorry for rant this isn't about me and yet I still seem to make it that way

anyway, onto a lighter note I think things are finally ok with the bot and tum so if anyone has terrible tummy bug may I recommend copious amounts of easter egg chocolate!!!!

dizzychixies · 24/03/2008 09:59

CC forgot, if you like that stroller from US its always worth checking out US ebay and seeing if someone will ship it, sometimes works out the same price as buying something over her if you see what I mean

Buckets · 24/03/2008 13:18

Expectant, I wouldn't worry about the weather in a month's time, Britain has always had totally unpredictable weather (nothing to do with global warming etc.) Is equally likely to be glorious sunshine as snow in April!
Dizzy, sorry to hear about your mum.
Karney, happy Easter and welcome to the board. Bit quiet this weekend I think as we've all got our mouths full of chocolate. Wait til the kids are becak at school tomorrow.

karney · 24/03/2008 13:36

Thanks Dizzyc for inviting me over. Sorry to here about your mum. I was in a similar situation to you last year when with my Dad.He was very vague anytime I asked about results/tests etc. The stress and frustration really did me in.There were plenty of times I just wanted to throttle him but at the same time felt totally powerless to help my own Da'. No other family members were around. Mabye she was avoiding phoning you cos she didn,t want to admit to it all happening. That's the way my Dad would have done it anyway. Dunno? all I know is it's very draining.Rant away anytime you like. x

On the subject of prams I live on the top floor of a tenement building in Glasgow (90 steps). Does anyone have any advice on lighter more compact prams that are easy to get up stairs. I,m really hopeless at all this stuff and totally bamboozled at all the differenet types!!

dizzydixies · 24/03/2008 13:45

families eh? she definately wasn't avoiding she just doesn't think and it drives me farking mental but thanks anyway.

do you have a car Karney? I would be tempted to leave it in the boot and use a sling! I used to live in simiar building, makes you very wary of forgetting anything doesn't it?!?! does wonders for thighs and bum though is there nowhere to store it downstairs? Am sure someone will be along with some more useful advice, mine have all had to be sturdy enough for dog/forest walking not light enough for carrying sorry

CaptainCaveman · 24/03/2008 17:11

Welcome Karney, so glad to have you join us too . Where did you meet dizzy - at a krispy kreme donut shop?? . EEEEK, 90 steps is a lot of steps.....will have a pushchair think for you.

Dizzy, might have a look at pushchairs when we go to Florida!!! Hee hee, airline can pay my transport costs then as we don't plan on taking ds' pushchair over with us.

Have been in a bad mood today, but I think being woken at 6am does that to me (thanks ds). Also had a crap nights sleep when away on sat night as slept in a blow up bed which bounced me out every time dh turned over, plus dh was pissed and so snored extra loud . Grrrrrr, tiredness and CC don't mix too well.....

Anyone know of cheap places to buy Disney park tickets for Florida? Dh has managed to find a place online which are about £10 cheaper than usual park entrance fees. Any clues TS?

Shazza2002 · 24/03/2008 18:01

Afternoon all.

My mum is doing fine thanks Dizzy, has bee staying with me for a couple of days so that was nice, doesn't sound like you've been so lucky though. I'm really sorry about thr trouble you're having with your mum. Doesn't it always seem the more you care and worry about them the more they think you don't IYSWIM ? Anyway rant away all you like

Had terrible day (well to be honest been a few months) with DD's behaviour, when she's good she's very good but when she's bad she's a nightmare. I know a lot of it is tiredness to do with her being up so early in the mornings but there's nothing I can do about that. I'm managing to cry weekly now at her behaviour and feel worse that my own DD could reduce me to tears but I just don't know what to do. Anybody else's child suddenly turned into Chucky?
