OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
poppysocks · 17/03/2008 15:16

No that's in my sister's. Took me ages to work out why her DH was known as Marge . Mine is just irritating as it ALWAYS needs to be spelt and can sound like words that small children find hilarious. Still better than my maiden name though!

TwilightSurfer · 17/03/2008 15:18

Petitfilou when I'm totally frazzled I go sit in my car and turn on the radio REALLY REALLY LOUD then SING at the top of my lungs (with the windows up, of course.) After about 20 minutes of total rock and roll I'm usually a little better. DH knows not to bother me during my therapy sessions.

OP posts:
poppysocks · 17/03/2008 15:19

petitfilou - that's like my boss's reaction last time. When I told her I was pregnant, she asked if I was planning to stay that way . This time my (different) boss just looked really p*ssed off as my colleague had just announced that she'd need maternity leave too!

miamla · 17/03/2008 15:23

petitfilou haven't had a chance to look myself yet but someone recommended "transcendental meditation" for relaxing (and also as a way to deal with childbirth pain). Apparently a google search will bring up lots of useful info. If the meditation doesn't work, send DCs on an adventure/wild goose chase with DH for a couple of hours!

libbyssister · 17/03/2008 15:24

Have you tried Bach's Rescue Remedy PetitF? It says on the bottle 'to calm and reassure' and the blurb is "Rescue Remedy is world famous for quickly restoring inner calm, control and focus helping you manage your daily stresses and get on with your life." I use mine when I'm getting a little edgy and there's a midwife recommendation on the website...

Does taste like brandy though

I don't know if it'll bring your actual BP down but might make you feel a bit more 'level'...?

I think you can get it in most Boots stores.

Shazza2002 · 17/03/2008 15:40

Petitflou - I had high BP last pregnancy from about 20 weeks. The only thing the midwives recommended was rest (is never possible) and cutting down on salt. That was the only advice they could give me. Was you resting when they took it or had you just rushed into the appointment? When they use to take mine they would always do all the other checks first and get me to lie down for that bit, as being the slightest bit stressed can really effect it, even worrying about the appointment itself HTH

PetitFilou1 · 17/03/2008 15:47

Poppysocks Re your boss - that is OUTRAGEOUS! It is unbelieveable what people say sometimes.
Shazza It was something over 101 when I first got to the appointment! So the /84 figure was after I'd calmed down a bit. I must admit I did cry at her this morning.
TS The trouble is I am permanently frazzled at the moment. I may have just made things worse as well by saying to my dh that my mother has questioned why he has to start an MBA just after we've had the baby and moved house. I wonder that myself. He is so driven he doesn't really think through everything all the time (although he would argue he did)
Miamla Meditation may not be such a bad idea. I need to do something. The medication is not necessarily great for the foetus as far as I understand it.

Thanks all for your concern anyway, I appreciate it. DH is a cardiologist so a bit dismissive of me having a problem at this stage. I wonder what I'd have to do to actually get him concerned

VintageShamrock · 17/03/2008 15:55

Oh petitf you do sound very stressed out all right. What are the timings of moving house, baby, and MBA starting? Sometimes the apprehension of something can create worse stress than the thing itself, and you can expend so much emotional energy dreading things. I presume that in general you are supportive of your DH and are happy for him to do the MBA but worried that he won't be sufficiently present to help out with house horrors, your other dc and the new baby? Is that the root of it?

VintageShamrock · 17/03/2008 16:00

miamia I will email you once I have found a measuring tape! Thank you.

Shazza I made the unprecedented move of inviting DP to read a MN post over my shoulder for the pleasure of seeing him crease up at your foreplay!

Re. creme eggs what I find comforting about Easter is not just these but all the other mini eggs you can get, Rolo, Caramel, Galazy etc. I had half an M&S tarte au citron for lunch with a cup of instant coffee. If that's not a guilty pleasure I don't know what is! When I say half, I mean half a family-sized one. Not half an individual one. To be clear. How to explain its absence to DP when hunting for pudding tonight, as yet undecided.

miamla · 17/03/2008 16:05

Vintage... the only way to solve your problem with the lemon tart is to eat the other half as well and then there's no evidence of it ever existing!

VintageShamrock · 17/03/2008 16:10

God, but you're brilliant.

miamla · 17/03/2008 16:15

it comes from being a child with 3 siblings. we quickly realised that if one of us was missing during "pudding share out time" it was always better to share between 3 equally instead of leaving one small slice for the missing child (Obviously the nice thing would have been to share equally between 4 but then we would have had less cake!)

PetitFilou1 · 17/03/2008 16:17

Vintage We are moving house on 23 April to a vilage in Oxfordshire. I have lived in London over half my life so this is a bit of a culture shock. I will be moving from working three days a week in an office to working two days a week from home. Ds hasn't got a place in the local school at the moment even though we are going to be 0.1 mile from the school (we're appealing but the school is actually full and 5 other children from the village have also been refused a place so far). This might mean me driving to and from school every day with a newborn, 3 year old dd and ds. Dh's new job starts at 8am so he won't be able to help in the mornings at all. Dh is very very driven and always doing exams and courses (he has an exam at the end of March). He will be going away for a week about three weeks after we've had dc3. My mother has agreed to come and help but she is cross with my dh for planning to do his MBA in the circumstances and thinks he had the next thirty years to do one. We also need to do work to the new house and dh is steaming ahead with things without consulting me and then wondering why I blow a gasket over it. Ds said at the weekend that he was grumpy because we are fighting - which really made me sad. That about sums it up!

what a fantastic amount of amazing advice!
Do you fancy sorting my life out as well?!

VintageShamrock · 17/03/2008 16:55

No problem! It's so much easier than sorting out my own!

alittlebitshy · 17/03/2008 17:34

Wow everyone's been chatty today.

My scan went well . Baby co-operated and sonographer got all the measurements etc. Even got a mug shot of baby (looks v like dd's scan did but then again she didn't come out in monochrome and blurry, sooooooo ). We were never planning on finding out if it's pink or blue and he never asked so that was fine.

miamla Loving the JO Brand quote about crococdile/Snappy. love it love it love it. Will store that up if i can manage to utter it without creasing up first!!!

petitfilous lots of hugs with all your problems. VG is going to be our resident counsellor me thinks!

Milo is a lovely name!!!!!

Baby has been actibe here since I was 14+6, you know the jumpy flutters. Over the last couple of weeks they've got stronger and over the last few days there are deffo kicks (I leapt in the air in bed t'other day lol)

VintageShamrock · 17/03/2008 18:19

Yay ALBS you must feel great that it is over and you have nothing to worry about for the baby. What kind of pic did you get, was it one of those goldy ones with brilliant detail?

alittlebitshy · 17/03/2008 18:39

no it was just a plain scan. not going to have anything fancy like 4d or whetever they're called.....

HazieAndBaby · 17/03/2008 18:44

Hi girls, not much new with me. Just looking forward to the holiday weekend! I know that's sad since it's only Monday but can't wait for some time off. I got one of those long maternity pillows at the weekend and it's amazing, so have made plans to stay in my bed all of this coming weekend!

About baby movements, Button went crazy today when I ate a dark chocolate Kit Kat so I know what I'll be having before my 20wk scan to get him moving!

I'm glad to hear that everything went well with your scan alittlebitshy. You can't help but worry, but things turn out fine most of the time. And now you have a new picture! Yay!

Woah petitfilou you've got a lot on yr plate right now! I don't know how I'd cope with all of that going on. I think VintageShamrock (loving the namechange by the way!) has dished out some brilliant advice though.

I was cracking up at yr comebacks shazza! I need to write some down, since I can remember a grand total of... nothing, right now! I'd have loved to have seen the look on his face! I've not had many bad things said about me being pregnant, but have had a few things mentioned about my weight, courtesy of MIL. So far I've had, 'yr face is filling out now isn't it?', 'hiya fatty', 'look at how big yr bump is, it's obviously going to be a big baby'. Ah, how comforting to know there's so much support available... Why do people even feel the need to say anything like that? Sorry, rant over!! xx

stickybean · 17/03/2008 19:35

Hi Everyone,
Just checking in as haven't checked the thread for ages. Haven't caught up yet but wanted to say say hello anyway.
Not much going on here, nearly 18 weeks, getting bigger, not feeling movement yet but waiting patiently for it.

Speak soon,

Sticky

dizzychixies · 17/03/2008 20:38

Shazza - glad you're well, hope your mum is too
Miamla - have thought of a few more but will get back to you
Poppy - am coming over to batter your horrible boss!
Hi Libby & Hazie
anyone else not mentioned sorry was just a quick skin to as not look rude - bf still here from ireland till Wed!

take care everyone

VintageGardenia · 18/03/2008 08:24

Hi chixies, hope you have a fab time with your friend. We will only think you rude if you ignore us when she's gone!!

Strange things happening here in Gardenialand, I think there was some psychological barrier to my having ANY pregnancy symptoms before I had shared the news with DS. Now that he knows, my body seems to be letting itself go into full pregnancy mode - what is going on here? All of a sudden:

  1. I have a bump (small)
  2. I have dreadful backache and am shattered and dizzy
  3. I am feeling movements! (exciting)
  4. I have started getting off the sofa with knees apart, hand on lower back, grunting, in manner of 9-months-pregnant person
  5. Any time anyone says anything to me (ooh another chocolate biscuit already? / haven't you just HAD a nap? / could you just pass me that pen? / excuse me) I howl indignantly FGS I AM PREGNANT!

I am fabulous to live with! A real joy. DP just keeps ON and ON counting his blessings and smiling fondly at me ...

Buckets · 18/03/2008 09:10

LOL it's amazing what the mind can do, like those young girls who hide their pregnancies and give birth in silence. When they settle down and have more kids later on they get the full works of preg symptoms and huge bumps!
I'm starting to struggle sitting upright to get out of bed. Which makes no sense centre-of-gravity-wise because my bump is no bigger than many beerguts.

miamla · 18/03/2008 12:06

just a quickie, haven't caught up yet but thought i'd share advice i had for when my back was bad... smoothest way to get out of bed is

  1. start by lying on your side, facing the edge of the bed 2)bring your knees up towards you
  2. move your feet off the bed towards the floor whilst using the arm below you to slowly push yourself up. this means that your legs are acting as a lever to get the top bit of you upright. (lots less pressure on your back and stomach muscles)
  3. to stand from the sitting position, lean your head forward (keeping back straight) and push using your legs (and arms if necessary)

i figured the above might help those feeling front heavy. i've certainly noticed myself using the old technique again recently!
