Shazza2002 · 13/03/2008 13:47

Afternoon ladies

Dizzy - Just wanted to say good news about your scan. Only 4 weeks to go and counting. We are all keeping everything crossed for you, and as each day goes by, your baby is a day nearer viability

Welcome pregnancy1. We are all a lovely bunch (me included) so feel free to share anything. You say you're in London, what hospital are you going to?

Maybe we should add that to the list, would be good to see if anybody of us are going to the same maternity units. Perhaps we could all wear badges when we go into labour incase we spot another MNetter Ok I'll shut up now.

alittlebitshy · 13/03/2008 13:53

lol shazza at badges.
miamla and i have discovered we're due to pop the babies out at the same hospital .... that will be strange/cool if we do end up there at the same time.

Buckets · 13/03/2008 14:05

Ilana - lovely news, what a relief too.

Preg1 - welcome to the board. I'm 31 too but on my 3rd baby here (eldest not quite 5 yet). Have a look on the prev page for the stats list so you can copy, paste and edit yourself in.

Anyone wanna talk slings? This is what I just bought (the lesboid rainbow one halfway down th page.) DD & I have both already tried Baby Born in it.

PetitFilou1 · 13/03/2008 14:06

Pregnancy1 - Congratulations (had my first at 31 too) - enjoy it. Second and third time are a different kettle of fish! It is exciting then too but really exciting first time round.

PetitFilou1 · 13/03/2008 14:09

Dizzy - Keep going, wishing you luck for the next few weeks

Buckets - I'm sticking with my wilkinet but can only manage first three months anyway as have a useless back and babies that come out at close to 9lbs

alittlebitshy · 13/03/2008 14:11

oooh slings. I've got my eye on..... this

and this too

pregnancy1 · 13/03/2008 14:22

Ah, it all becomes clear. Here are the updated details with me in. I'm going to Whipps Cross - anyone else?

IlanaK · 13/03/2008 14:51

Oh yes - slings! My favourite are ring slings. I love zolowear I have a green silk one sort of like the jade pictured, a cotton solctice one, and a red solverveil (not pictured). My husband prefers pouches so I am buying him a hotslings one soon.

alittlebitshy · 13/03/2008 14:54

pregnancy1 - yes that's where I (and miamla as we discovered) am going. whereabouts are you?

dizzydixies · 13/03/2008 15:26

hi pregnancy1 welcome to August board, hope you're keeping better

right ladies have taken note of name requirements and will add some suggestions later

thank you all for kind thought - you really are a lovely bunch of nutters!!!

pregnancy1 · 13/03/2008 16:07

We live in Woodford Green (which I have great debates about on the Essex vs London - if you look it up on wikipedia it became part of London in the 60s, plus I pay council tax to the London Borough of Redbridge) - look you've discovered my giant chip without even asking!
I've put in a request to find out about the NCT, but haven't heard anything back. We might all be in the same whipp's antenatal classes. i've been told not to think about it until 28 weeks (as our pregnancy memories won't keep info in for any longer than that). Have you signed up to any yet?

alittlebitshy · 13/03/2008 16:25

Pregnancy1 - i'm in barkingside and my dd is at school in s woodford, so we're v near!!

I'm not going to bother with classes cos this is second time round for me. It has been 5 years but I decided that I think that the stuff I need to know I remember fine ......we'll see....

Have you actually SEEN many ppl at whipps yet? I only had my booking in app/dating scan at 15+5 (but that was my gp's sheer incompetency at referrals grr) and have my 20 week scan on Monday, then the next week I see the dr (wasn't fussed on the midwife I saw at booking in. It was like everything I said she ignored, then asked again later, makiing me feel about 12 years old so am glad it's a dr next time lol).

Ooh yes we have the same debates about the Essex/London thing. I assume you have an "Essex" postcode rather than an E starting london one. So in my eyes the post office lump us as Essex, so I uses Essex as my postal address, but I class myself as living in London cos after all I am in the a London borough. We moved here from East London proper, so we're v much of the mindset that we're still in London, whereas I've noticed that ppl who have lived here all their lives are v much in the habit of classing themselves as Essex folk . Am I ranting/ waffling?

Buckets · 13/03/2008 16:28

Ooh Ilana, how do you get on with the silk brocade? They look gorgeous but the tail looks quite stiff and sticky-outy. Is it for special occasionas only?

PF - I too only managed a few months with my 9lber in a Wilkinet, can't fault the Wilkinet itself for back support though. Am using willpower (and elective CSec mwahaha) to have a nice pocketsized baby this time. And where have I put my cigarettes?

Buckets · 13/03/2008 16:30

While we're on the subject, is anyone still smoking out of interest? Only nobody's mentioned it so I assumed not. I quit my v small habit when I got my BFP but admit I have given the odd longing look when passing smokers on the street.

dizzydixies · 13/03/2008 16:31

ok, longwayhome here are some for starters but if you tell me which ones appeal to you I can start to narrow it down slightly - won't be offended, different folk different strokes!!!

my favs - Mateo or Mattias, Nico, Rocco, Sol, Rafael and Jordi

Reuben means 'behold a son' and Saul means prayed for son

both of which I think are beautiful, fantastic meanings for your last ds

dizzydixies · 13/03/2008 16:59

anyone else

alittlebitshy · 13/03/2008 17:48

you've got a job for life here... I'm going to think hard and set you on the job soon

IlanaK · 13/03/2008 18:17

Dizzydixies - Thank you! I absolutley love most of the names you put at the bottom. I can't have Noah as too many relatives with that name. I don't like Phineas or Saul, but like most of the others. I think my favourites are Jacob and Samuel. I will run the list past DH later and see what he says! Thanks again!

Buckets - I LOVE the silk. It is a sort of special occasion one, but it is machine washable so you could use it daily. It is not stiff at all. The main problem is it can get hotter than the cotton and solarveil ones. I have had all summer babies so not as good for that. I do love wearing it though - makes me feel really special.

dizzydixies · 13/03/2008 18:28

very welcome IlanaK, my middle name is rumplestiltskin is you're like to use it as middle name for ds3 in my honour

HazieAndBaby · 13/03/2008 18:58

OMG dizzy! I'm sure there's a 1,000,001 baby names book with your name under the author entry!!! Really pleased to hear everything went well with your scan. Can't believe you're halfway already! Oh, the baby says 'hi' too! He kicked when I typed yr name, so maybe he wants a name picked as well!

On the subject of names, I love the name Holly (if we get a girl, but DH is adamant LO is a boy), but our surname starts with an 'H' too and is one syllable so it sounds a bit porn star! Grr!

Hi Pregnancy1! I'm having my first baby too and I'm crazy excited - well so the people at work, who have to put up with me all day, seem to think! I thought I'd cry at my scan but was totally shaking instead, I was really nervous. It may have been the effort of desperately trying to hold in the pee though!

Right, just want to ask a question and apologies if TMI! I went to the loo today for a poo (so glad you can't see me cringing right now!) and I got this really horrible pain up my side, which took the breath out of me. I've been getting really bad stitches when I stand up too quickly and am sure that this is what it is, but felt too time-wasty to call the m/w. It went away once I'd finished but I'm still a bit worried. Does that sound like a normal thing?

I'm going to run away now... xx Oh, sorry for the long post!

longwayfromhome · 13/03/2008 19:00

Thank you! This is really kind. I really like Nico for a boy, and lots of names that I hadn't thought of. I will run the whole list past DH tonight.

IlanaK · 13/03/2008 19:16

Dizzydixies - suprisingly, DH really likes Saul and I think I do too. Middle names for our children are always our grandparents (the children's great grandparents) first names. Having had two boys already, we do not have much choice left. DH's one is Fred which I hate. My one is Cesar (with an accent across the e). Saul goes really nicely with that so we may have a winner! We really like the meaning too.

So, where do I sent the payment?

PhilB · 13/03/2008 19:16

Hi all. Long time no post.

HazieAndBaby - your side pain sounds familiar. I have been having sharp shooty pains for weeks now, not when I poo really, but often when I lift up my foot to start walking somewhere. I've had a few that have made me suck in my breath they've been so strong. I think it's the uterus moving up, and the ligaments stretching - I read in my book that it's common to get sharp pains around the sides and under the bump at the moment. I called the MW a few weekends ago (not mine, just the one on call) and she said 'go to emergency gynaecology immediately' which really panicked me, but then I called the emergency place and the bored-sounding nurse just said 'your baby is growing, take a paracetamol and lie down, bla bla bla.' I think I know it's not something serious, because the pains don't last, they just come and go. But perhaps it's not the same thing.

I've been having panics today about drinking too much - is anyone else still drinking, and if so, how much?
