Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
poppysocks · 11/03/2008 22:03

Aah thanks Dizzy. We really should meet up at some stage. Our DDs are the same sort of age too aren't they?

Seems like there may be a fair bit of anaemia around. I may just be knackered and looking like s**t anyway, but if there's a reason and it discovering it stops the restless legs before they really start to drive me crazy would be good.

Anyway, I'm now in a brilliant mood having just received a call from my little sister to say that she's just found out that she's expecting a baby too! It's her first so she's a bit shell shocked but really pleased. Only married in the summer and she and her DH will be fab parents. On a purely selfish level will be lovely for our LOs to be so close in age.

For all you London ladies, do you know anything of St George's, Kingston or Chelsea and Westminster? That's the choice she's been given and typically no other info about them...

dizzydixies · 11/03/2008 22:18

cairnie farm ==strawberry tarts-- for the kids poppysocks, its the best place in the world!!!

congrats Auntie Socks, when is she due then?
why not ask about the hosps on the preg thread, am sure someone on there will know all about them

poppysocks · 11/03/2008 22:53

Cairnie Farm in strawberry season sounds like heaven! See you there Dizzy!

Sis is due on 16 November, so almost exactly 3 months after me. I've already plundered the archives for info on the hospitals, but inevitably there's lots of good and bad so I've tried not to overwhelm her with info. All very exciting though!

longwayfromhome · 11/03/2008 23:16

Hello everyone,

Yes, my doctor started me on iron, which I was a bit surprised about as my Hb was 12, but I'm feeling less tired and dizzy at the moment so it might be doing the trick.

Does anyone else have "working titles" for their babies? DH is not very communicative on the name front and so baby longwayfromhome is currently known as Azerbaijan although I hope that we will reach some slightly more acceptable accord before August.

Expectant · 12/03/2008 06:14

Hi,

Can't believe how much you all write - I'm struggling keeping up!

Baby seems to have a working title of Touch Wood or the touchwoodthing at the moment because DH and I are both being neurotic first timers...DH now trying to feed me up as I'd lost weight at the last scan and is calling after lunch every day to see what I've eaten. I know I shouldn't complain but it's driving me nuts!

I'm also on the iron tablets and would say I'm feeling a lot less tired except DH only rolled in at 3am this morning so I'm not feeling too awake today! (It's 2pm here)

Shazza2002 · 12/03/2008 10:26

Morning ladies.

You lot can certainly chat.

Hospital bag - Have not even thought about mine yet. If I packed it that would involve having to find somewhere to store it

Trying to have a sort out in the house and get rid of stuff, plus move DD into her new room. She is currently in the box room to sleep whereas her toys and everything else is in the bigger room. She's ok about moving, just need to find the energy to do it! (or bark orders at DP at least)

Still in a dilemma about a holiday. Plan is to go on 3rd May, I will be 27 weeks. Really want to go to Majorca, will be final holiday with just DD before baby arrives so really want to do it. Problem is I haven't booked it as from around 20 weeks last time started suffering from high blood pressure, swollen ankles, headaches, all the warning signs for pre-eclampsia. Nothing to say this will happen again but don't want to jinx things by booking a holiday, so just seeing what happens. But problem with that is as I don't know I'm going for definate I can't look forward to it. Does that make sense? I feel absolutely fine now but 7 weeks is a long time away.

VintageGardenia · 12/03/2008 11:50

Hi everyone. What a night! I kept waking up to screaming winds and lashing rain and I was sure all the trees in the garden would have blown down by this morning, but there was no damage at all.

DS off school sick yesterday and today, throwing up everywhere, so very difficult to get any work done (I work from home a lot). He's pale and wobbly today and staggering around in his slippers. We discussed possible recuperation snacks and he felt a Rice Krispies square (you know those awful sticky marshmallowy things) would be an appropriate one so I feel he is on the mend!

Had visit to midwife the other day - Monday - and she was reasonably reassuring about the whole labour process, which is giving me the absolute willies at the moment. Particular dreads are tears, cuts and stitches YUK. Scan was all good & have booked another for Friday week - this is the one which in the UK I think is called an anomaly scan - here in Ire it's called a normality scan, which somehow makes me a bit . It's a high definition one, mw said we would be able to see all the facial features and so on with great clarity. That's nice to look forward to, though at the same time of course it's being done for medical reasons, not for our entertainment.

PetitFilou1 · 12/03/2008 11:56

poppysocks congrats to your sister. Sounds like she must live somewhere near me! Had dd at Georges (though didn't have antenatal care there as we only arrived in the area when I was 8 months pregnant) and I'm afraid my experience of both the midwives at the birth and the postnatal care, was terrible. I've been to C&W this time, midwives seem very nice, had my scan there and having my anomaly scan at the South Westminster clinic, which is linked. Kingston is very busy - that's all I know. Hope that helps!

VintageGardenia · 12/03/2008 11:59

Shazza re. your holiday I had similar dilemma - though without previous history of blood pressure, etc that you describe. I was booked for a cruise in June! Which we had to cancel when we found out about the baby, of course, but we then went looking for an alternative. Timing had to be right for DS's school terms, half terms, so we are now booked for Iceland for 1st May. But I have it in the back of my mind too that by then it may be the last thing on the planet I want to do - just hoping good health continues. DS is v looking forward, plus DP plus my mum too, so would be awful to cancel.

I'd say go ahead and book it - imagine May rolling round and you thinking how fab it would be to be heading off to the sun, then realising it was too late to get anything. All that lovely sea swimming so good for bumpy ones, plus it will be a lovely happy experience for your dd. Plus a little sun (not too much of course!) will put colour in your cheeks after a grim winter & you will look and feel fantastic when you come back, for facing into that difficult last stretch of preg.

IF when the time comes your doc does advise you not to go then obviously you mustn't - but I think sometimes if you act optimistically things go your way.

PS should you choose to act on my advice and it all goes pear shaped don't come crying to me if you lose your deposit

Shazza2002 · 12/03/2008 13:51

Thanks for the advice VG.

I know a holiday would do me the world of good. Didn't have one last year because of moving house so I've had the holiday blues for what seems like forever. Plus if we don't go DD is not stupid, she will know it's because of the baby and that opens up a whole new can of worms. Plus I have been known to have a sunbed or 2 but not having had any for around 6 months now I am feeling rather pale, so I know a natural bit of sun will really cheer me up. Plus I get travel insurance through my bank, have checked up and I am covered up until 28 weeks at date of return. We are planning to go 3rd May, come back Sat 10th. Will be 28 weeks on that Sunday so means I'm covered, surely it's an omen.

But the reason I'm off holding booking it because of the price now. I know where I want to stay. Checked the prices in December. Checked them recently and have gone up by £100. I know they are creeping up daily, but kind of thinking I plan to book around 2 weeks in advance. Are they likely to be even more expensive then as 2 weeks not considered a late deal? Are there any travel agents among us? Listen to me waffling. Sorry ladies.

LadyOfWaffle · 12/03/2008 14:09

eeek, let me take cover here, have piddled off most of MN on the parking thread

So many essays to read, let me go and catch up on everything - all my posts seem to say that!

LadyOfWaffle · 12/03/2008 14:10

Funny when you scroll down fast, two words jumped out at me - sex and burgers!

LadyOfWaffle · 12/03/2008 14:20

@ the holiday talk. I would expect at 27 ish weeks you'll be fine... I think pre-eclampsia in your second + pregnancy is unlikely unless you had it in your first. Although I am windering if I should go about 3 hours up north to a wedding at about 36 weeks! I doubt we'll get a holiday this year, it's March now and August is just >>> there and we have so much to pay for. Maybe a weekend in a caravan somewhere, fingers crossed! We are 'going away' for DSs birthday, his godmother lives by the coast and has loads of spare bedrooms, so we are going the day before, staying the night, going to the zoo on his birthday, then spending his birthday night down there. Taken alot of willpower and doing without just to save for that at the moment! Bills flying in from everywhere, but fingers crossed for a big tax rebate - last year I got a suprise few hundred in my account from a job ages ago!

Shazza2002 · 12/03/2008 14:34

Thanks ladywaffle. Last pregnancy I did have what they said was threatening for pre-eclampsia. Early on in PG it was just the high blood pressure and swollen ankles, but later on I developed the headaches and protein in my wee. Was admitted around 3 weeks before due date to get complete rest and so they could monitor blood pressure. Was then induced 3 days before due date. So trying not to be too morbid but preparing myself for this again. So just wondering if I do get it all again this PG how early. But it's only a 2 hour flight, I could spend longer than that sitting in the car somedays!! I also have a lot of bills to pay and baby on the way, but every year when I've got my bonus from work it's always paid off the credit card or something equally dull. Just for once I want something nice out of it. Now who am I trying to convince???

Plus saw your posts on the other threads, everybody was very harsh in their responses to your comments.

libbyssister · 12/03/2008 14:52

Ooh LofW, come back to the cosy dueAug thread, it's war out there in parking! I want to pitch in with a comment that I park in the M&B/T spaces at night when I've gone to Sainsburys because I figure that by 9pm ALL the B&Ts will be home in bed, not in the supermarket But I think I'd get hung out to dry...

Buckets · 12/03/2008 15:32

Well I got my first preggy migraine after all yesterday and it was belter. Went partially blind at toddler group and lost the ability to string a sentence together, was like a mini stroke or something. Luckily was with two understanding pals who just laughed (sympathetically ) until I could see enough to get DS home again. Got worse again after tea. DH took today off for me to recover bless him but these things very often come in pairs so don't think I'll get the same treatment if it happens again.
The kids have been so good (totally unsupervised for about 2hrs until DH got home last night!)and DD got a note home about how good her work was so she is v chuffed with herself too (only 4 but puts alot of pressure on herself).

libbyssister · 12/03/2008 15:45

Ouch Buckets, you have my total sympathy. Hope the evil migraine doesn't come back for a 2nd attack!

IlanaK · 12/03/2008 15:50

I have booked a holiday for the 10th of May. I will be well over the dates that most insurance policies cover (I am totally impressed by the bank one covering you to 28 weeks). But I did find on in the end that would cover me so went ahead and booked knowing that we could get a refund if all went wrong. Ryan Air are instisting on a doctor's note written within a week of travel to say I am fit to go. So far, all is fine so I will hope all will be then.

Shazza2002 · 12/03/2008 15:56

The insurance doesn't cover if you cannot travel due to pre-determined medical condition, so I suppose I could never argue that I didn't know I was pregnant, they would only have to look at the size of me

I am now open to the fact that all being well we will go, if I cannot go to the hotel I would like then we will just have to find an alternative, but the fact that we are still managing to go is what I should/will be grateful for IYSWIM

Sorry to hear about your migraine Buckets. But great you have supportive friends

cheerfulvicky · 12/03/2008 16:04

Hello!
I've been lurking round MumsNet for a good while so I thought it was about time I introduced myself in this thread
I'm due on the 18th of August and it'll be my first! We don't know what we're having yet (scan in a month! Woohoo!) but I have a feeling it's a boy. We'll see, eh?

PetitFilou1 · 12/03/2008 16:15

Shazza I hate to be dull but I think you should get your Dr's advice (pref the hospital consultant not the GP) on whether you should go or not. They should know the risk of whether you are likely to develop pre-eclampsia or not given your past experience. I think the issue is not the length of the flight but whether you might need to be medically evacuated/treated out there, that kind of thing.

I would normally say go for it as I went to the South of France (and flew) 7 or even 7 1/2 months pregnant. The post office were one of the only companies who would insure me at that point. But I'd be more cautious in your case.

Sorry, told you I was being a damp squib!

PetitFilou1 · 12/03/2008 16:16

PS Hello cheerfulvicky and welcome to MN

HazieAndBaby · 12/03/2008 18:35

Hi everyone! And hi to cheerfulvicky! There's a list on one of the previous pages that you can update your details on if you want - make it seem more real! I'm having my first baby too and find everyone on the thread to be really friendly and helpful so you're in a good place!
Our baby has the 'working title' of Button! One of the first things that the sonographer said when she saw the LO on the scan was 'oh, look at baby's cute little button nose' and it just stuck. Sounds like our DH's would get on expectant! My DH comes home asking if I got my '5 a day' today and if I want any fruit brought home!
On the subject if hols, we've booked 4 nights in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere with a jacuzzi and log fire (in a log cabin? Never though about it before actually!) at the end of April so can't wait for that!
