CC it was VG again with the whipping threats am glad you're all here, feel safer in numbers

VG just see it as dairy and fish - essential for good baby growing!

PMSL - me and my flaming size 8s again will try and get kirsty from kirsty and phil on!!

I used the tens at the beginning of labour when I was induced with dd1 and only took it off when got epidural - you can start it on a low setting and turn it up as your contractions kick in

same again with dd2, had it on at home till 5cm and went in, off again for epidural

used it with paracetamol (ha, would have been as well eating smarties) and with the gas and air

suits some but not others a very personal thing but I'll give anything a whirl me

(desperately hopes CC won't pick up and that and add it the swinging/whipping comments and have enough to write her article!!)

LadyOfWaffle · 09/03/2008 17:29

Who is Dizzy whipping?

I didn't have a TENS last time, well I didn't plan to use one but when I was in labour (induced) a MW came up to me and gave it to me and OMG I am so glad she did, it was so great. Everytime I went for a wee for some reason the contractions were really bad, but I would quickly jam it right up and give myself a big buzz which took my mind off it! I wore it right up until my epidural, even though they said it probably wasn't having much effect by then. Wore it in total about... 12 hours! Heaven. Luckily I was in hospital from the beginning of labour and got one, this time if it's 'normal' I will be having most the labour at home, so will 100% buy one. I have a bad back anyway so think I will invest in one. THen I can get it sooner rather than later. Ooooo I love TENS machines!

dizzydixies · 09/03/2008 17:30

while we're on the subject does anyone else have the same problems as me with the M&S adverts, its like food porn and nobody in our house allowed to speak whilst they're on!!

VintageGardenia · 09/03/2008 17:32

Ooo Cap'n I bet ALBS gave you a false address to throw you off the scent! She's keeping hunky hubby well safe, I should think, given her knowledge of the August rampagers!

Obviously tens was working for you dd - if not a naive question how did you know when its efficacy was going to run out & that you would be in need of epidural? Or had you previously counted on having the epidural?

LadyOfWaffle · 09/03/2008 17:33

I like (well, laugh at) the ALDI knock off version of the M & S ads. Did you see the PG tips advert mocking M & S? Very funny.

It's all kicking off now on the 'cod challenge' thread!

VintageGardenia · 09/03/2008 17:36

Gosh LoW that is a great recommendation. Are there special ones for maternity (sorry if that' s a daft question, really haven't a clue) or would this do? It's 59 euro - which is about 40 or 45 sterling I think? on a special offer.

dizzydixies · 09/03/2008 17:38

I'm not whipping anyone, its VG threatening to whip me on the bake off next sunday [sniff][meep] am sure dh will book the day off for it!!

CC come on give us the address so we call all pop round and see the hunky vicar!

LofW I saw that - you mean the AIBU thread re the challange or the actual thread itself - god am such a newbie!

LadyOfWaffle · 09/03/2008 17:38

I think there are special labour ones... I saw an ad for one in Llyods a while back which said in small writing "not suitable for use in labour". I guess the labour ones have the boost buttons etc. I doubt the one in the hospital was an all singing all dancing version, I am not sure why some are quite abit more... shall have to research it abit

VintageGardenia · 09/03/2008 17:38

I'm glad it's kicking off finally. I don't think I was born without a sense of humour but I really think it's irritating to have the whole board turned into a joke. Loads of true threads have suffered and people have wasted their time on joke ones, ha merry ha. I've avoided the rest of the boards since it started. Off to have a nosey myself!!!

dizzydixies · 09/03/2008 17:39

I'm pretty sure there are specific ones for maternity use as opposed to back pain

you can hire them from your hospital and boots and a couple of other places too

LadyOfWaffle · 09/03/2008 17:40

Yeah, the AIBU thread

CaptainCaveman · 09/03/2008 17:42

seem to have missed the boat entirely there - I usually only post on here and on the christinan prayer thread. I think these 2 are safe though!

dizzydixies · 09/03/2008 17:44

CC you're well out of it to be honest, I spend far too much time on here but am still new to it all so I can't be bothered and don't know if am coming or going with it at all!

CaptainCaveman · 09/03/2008 17:46

Dizzy have just clicked on your profile page - what a beautiful family you have! Love the last photo of your dd dancing.

dizzydixies · 09/03/2008 17:48

is she not just THE happiest thing in the world - sorry to gush but she was so good on the day and loved every minute of it - most of the time she really is a joy. they're both flower girls again in May and she's so excited, dd2 not too sure about as she's not quite as easily pleased and hates dresses lol

right, enough from me now

VintageGardenia · 09/03/2008 17:48

Maternity ones are prob twice the price! Will snoop round this week for hiring and buying prices.

I shot my grim tuppence worth onto AIBU.

My back is absolutely killing me today. POSSIBLY from moving a very large bookcase yesterday, but thinking of getting lovely massage during the week, yummmmm!

dizzydixies · 09/03/2008 17:52

VG what on earth are you doing moving a large bookcase FFS - do you need me to give you a row so everyone thinks am thread pervert AND bossy boots?!? please be careful and in future just treat yourself to lovely massage not try to injure yourself to get one!!!

VintageGardenia · 09/03/2008 17:56

I know we had room painted and I was so desperate to organise everything in it afterwards that I didn't wait. I used mostly leg strength (ha! little) not back, tummy etc.

Oh and dd they think you are thread pervert AND bossy boots AND row starter anyway

YIKES time! Flying. See you all later.

LadyOfWaffle · 09/03/2008 17:57

VG Considered yourself toldoff! Take it easy!

Another thing we need to discuss... labour music!

dizzydixies · 09/03/2008 18:01

oh good grief labour music too, am going to have some dreams tonight!!

when pg with dd1 I decided seeing as wouldn't know what kind of music I'd want, if any, I burnt 3 CDs - one titled ANGRY, one HAPPY and one SOOTHER

you can imagine what was on each lol

p.s. never used them as before epidural wasn't interested and after I just dozed and watch tv - was most put out when head consultant boy came in during countdown - no respect some people lol

dizzydixies · 09/03/2008 18:03

VG always nice to make oneself stand out from the crowd a little

alittlebitshy · 09/03/2008 18:22

goodness me aren't you all busy chatting?!!!
And did i feel my ears positively burning?????

TENS machine. WOw. I loved mine. I had it on, i think, up until the epiduaral, but never got up to full zapping levels cos I was too scared to turn it up too much in case i reached the top level and had no more zappiness left( was labour logic honest). Bear in mind I was induced and started having 2-3 min apart contractions within 30 mins, then was non stop til 38 hours later when I had the c-section, I prob got a good bit of use out of the wonderful machine!!!

I barely used any music. Took some in but i think only Boyzone got used (ah to use Ronan!!! ). Will fill up my ipod this time, cos even if i have a section, it might be good to have music for when i'm in hospital sans dh later on after baby is born.

On the topic of Boyzone - I'm going to see them when I'm 31 weeks! I think I'm in some rather high up seats where it's recommended you don't stand. Goodness me, I might topple over in my egg shaped state. Oooh - but maybe Ronan will rescue me.

feeling sick. Ugh. Had dinner and just sitting still hoping it stays down.

Anyone else a detective drama fan? Cos Sunday night is Lewis night. Dh and i haven't manged to stay awake for the last 2 so will prob record it and start watching it then goto bed and finish it tomorrow lol!

... Just had to rush and rescue dd. Dh is doing bath and bed, but she was stuck in her dress. It is a particularly beautiful dress that my mum got from Boden, but it is a rther fitted style pinafore dress and the zip is so stiff and it was stuck at waist height and dd was in a panic and wasn't impressed when i told her she might have to wear it to school tomorrow (we're just exploring sarcasm - she's almost as good as me now but can't get the nuances of comments like that lol)

Buckets · 09/03/2008 20:31

Hi all
We've had our first nit-attack!!! Not a bad innings for a nrly 5yr old but still horrid to think about. I wash their hair every week with tea tree oil shampoo and comb conditioner through and there were definitely none last Sunday but tonight ... dozens! Was quite fun picking them all out though, can't wait to do it again tomorrow.

Glad everyone's in good spirits this weekend, keep that thought when that big storm hits Britain tomorrow . Raincoats out of the car now!

Oh, finally got a bump pic on my profile!

dizzydixies · 09/03/2008 20:37

yeah bumpy buckets and lovely happy shiney children!!

ALBS Ronan for a boy maybe?!?! Rowena for a girl??!!

LadyOfWaffle · 09/03/2008 22:28

oh wow , a bump. I look no different, but my belly sticks out anyway being fat.

Nooo, not Ronan, takes me back to when I met DH and we were discussing baby names (?!?) and he said Natasha... then I found out he was obsessed (DVDs, signed pics the lot!) with Natasha from Atomic Kitten. I still moan at him about it
