I was just wondering how many are there of us . . .

I am due end of June and love my antenatal thread as there is so much good advice there but thought it may be nice to share a little with others who are new to this whole thing too.

Anyone interested?

Kaz1967 · 26/03/2008 08:15

another good thing about not getting the mortgage yet then is unlike me you will not have to get packing with a gert lump in your tum.

I have started taking me phone into the bathroom just incase I get stuck I was told by the physio I was supposed to on to my hands and knees to get out not easy when you have a very old narrow bath

Kaz1967 · 26/03/2008 08:28

I think I will be totally knackered at 34 weeks Carrie thankfuly a couple of friends have said they will help pack (have started already) and should be able to afford proper removal peeps

PregnantPenguin · 26/03/2008 13:35

I am nervously laughing at idea of getting stuck in the bath...please don't let that happen to me! I'd be sliding all over the place if I tried on my hands and knees though...

Re: possibility of bot moving, I also currently live opposite a gym with a creche. Pre pregnancy I was quite keen and reasonably fit, now I'm a whale. It would be useful to have this opposite to get pre preg body back and to have some PP time without having to travel so far. Literally I can get changed in my bedroom and be in a class in less than 2 minutes! Part of me thinks that this is a negative point though - too much pressure!

bitofadramaqueen · 26/03/2008 18:49

Hi everyone,

Can I take the chat back to maternity jeans briefly? Those that are on the same ante-natal thread as me will know that I am at my wits end...

Has anyone who already has a decent sized bump and is maybe a bit pear shaped found a pair of maternity jeans that dont need hitched up constantly (that dont break the bank)? I've had a few pairs of jeans, cheap ones, expensive ones... And after a few hours wear they all end up needing hitched up every 5 minutes. Have tried wearing a belt or bump band over the top but to no avail. I was in tears at the frustration of it at the weekend as there just aren't many other 'casual, weekend' type options out there. Am due in June so dont want to spend a fortune at this stage. Hopefully the weather will warm up soon and can wear spring stuff like drawstring linen trousers, but in the meantime any suggestions? I dont want to buy any heavy trousers (and am so over black) and skirts for me require boots that I can no longer zip up without help. Sorry if I'm being a bit whingy but I'm desperate. Have so far ruled out Seraphine, top shop, new look and dotty p's.

carrieHD9 · 26/03/2008 19:41

dramaqueen- after what people said on here I followed their advice and made sure I walked around loads in jeans before purchasing- on that basis I haven't bought any! Couldn't find any that were a good fit- I'm living in linen trousers and a pair of the most comfortable ever jersey trousers- both supremely comfy- lots of skirts too but entirely agree about boots not doing up anymore!

The shop I found good fitting mat clothes (though didn't try their jeans) was jojomamanbebe. Next had loads of jeans but I couldn't find a pair to fit me- but there was a good selection of styles so you might have better luck?

Kaz, DEF get the removals, also when I moved a couple of years ago actually got packers in, which I'd always refused to do as thought was the biggest extravagence ever but oh my god it was so worth it- they do in a day what it takes you weeks and weeks to do, whilst getting nostalgic/ frustrated/ totally sidetracked- about the best couple of hundred quid I've ever spent-

bitofadramaqueen · 26/03/2008 19:47

Thanks Carrie - the last ones I bought I walked around for ages in, but alas after a couple of hours same old problem! Have got some trousers from jojomamanbebe and they are fantastic.

Just hoping someone comes along who has a pair of jeans that they've been wearing that dont need hitched up. Am loathe to buy any more at this stage without hearing some good feedback in case I have the same problem again . Have some lighterweight trousers for the better weather, but a bit cold for now around these parts .

AHLH · 27/03/2008 13:31

Hi I'll be a first time Mummy in September if all goes to plan. Was feeling awful until recently, but heard heartbeat at mw appointment yesterday, and am beginning to get exited.

I am working, but have been off sick for 8 weeks! I work for a large public sector organisation who have a pretty decent maternity deal and we usually have several women off a year, so I am confident that they know what to do with me.

MrsHOP · 27/03/2008 14:27

Hiya AHLH - and welcome! there is a list of us first-timers somewhere if you want to add yourself!

drama, have you tried H&M, I got a pair off ebay, I got an overbump stle (not very glam but nice with long top/dress over them - they fit me really well and are comfy too...give them a go, let us know how you get on xx

cyteen · 27/03/2008 16:25

Hey all, I'm another first timer - due at the end of August, I'm 18+4 now and have a definite bump which I still find absolutely hilarious.

Looking forward to chatting with you all. It's exciting! Haven't read through the whole thread yet, but will try and do so later on (am supposedly at work atm).

Went to see the midwife this morning for my triple test results (v low risk, apparently - yay) and she dopplered me again. It was hilarious, the baby obviously didn't want to be heard and kept kicking the doppler away

ruthosaurus · 27/03/2008 17:00

Has anyone at the other end of pregnancy from me ever been to a music festival while pregnant? DH booked the (non-transferable and non-refundable) tickets the day before I did the test. I'll be 6 months when we go.

Ruthosaurus I'm planning on going to a festival when I'm 8 months! Can't believe I'm typing that! I've insisted on B&B accommodation, but I still don't want to miss out.

So gald other people have had trouble with jeans too. I just keep telling DH that the problem is that my bottom hasn't grown as much as the manufacturers expected, but I too am beginning to find it intensely annoying.

bitofadramaqueen · 27/03/2008 19:30

Thanks for the tip MrsHop - no falling down/hitching up issues with those ones for you? Will be in town tomorrow so will have a look at what they have.

Welcome other newbies. I do think you're brave to be thinking of going to a festival at 6 or 8 months pregnant, but if you feel up to it when the time comes then go for it!

7monthsplus · 27/03/2008 19:36

hi, I am pregnant with my first due April.... 8th!!!!!! so nearly real but not quite! cant beleive it as all has gone well and dont feel pregnant as havent had piles, heartburn, cravings, mood swings.... or any such horrors..
I am working well I finish next week for 10 months I Manage 3 projects for three Local authorities and have had a hard time letting it go but... job title changes to mum in approx 10 days if all well!
xxx

Kaz1967 · 28/03/2008 00:14

I am just wondering when Rocky will realise trying to hide from the midwife when you are nearly 24 weeks old is becoming slightly pointless because you are too big. It was not helped because my placenta is anterior and high up and the midwife thought that was the little rascal and I was initially having braxton hicks so my whole tummy was hard good job I know where troubles feet were and their favourite position

tallbirduk · 28/03/2008 15:17

hello all - it's been a while, but I've been lurking.

All going well here, bump growing and seem to feel and look very pregnant all of a sudden, is quite unusual - but not in a bad way (well, apart from the heartburn!).

On the jeans front, I have a couple of pairs which I thought were fall down proof - but after a couple of hours walking round at the weekend, they started dropping - think it is because my bump has expanded and so they are just sitting lower than they were. Anyway, this might sound totally bonkers - but I have invested in a pair of braces and am hoping that will solve the problem! Something has to because I got chafed to death because of my jeans hanging round my knees!

bitofadramaqueen · 28/03/2008 16:52

Tallbird - I'm so with you on the chaffing - my legs still bear the marks of a very painful day in January when I was far away from home in 'falling down' jeans. Tried on a pair in H&M today - they were supposed to be a size 14-16, but I could barely get them past my knees! My ass may have spread since pregnancy but not so much that I'm a size 18 .

ruthosaurus · 29/03/2008 12:38

Tallbird - it's not you, it's them - evil body fascists!
H&M has always been weird with trousers - they seem to think 14 actually = 18 and that if your bum is that big (ahem!) then proportionally you must also be 6 foot tall. Trying on trousers in there is a bit demoralising for me as I'm 5'4'' and size 14 and apparently that's a weird size. I have been giggled at in Topshop for the same reason (grr). I'm off to Dotty P's today to try to get some short-arse person's stretchy waistband jeans as my lovely usual jeans are already digging in painfully and making me poorly. Can't bear the thought of not wearing jeans for most of the next year...

Excitable · 29/03/2008 19:09

I've tried braces and not found them to be very helpful due to my new humungous breasts. My nipples just can't take that kind of weight - ouch! They do keep the trousers up, but it's at a price. Perhaps when my bump gets bigger (I'm 19 weeks tomorrow) it'll be able to help in some of the load-bearing.

I'm just hitching my jeans up continually and not getting changed into them during the week, so that I only have two days of hitching a week. I think I can manage like that until summer.

Feeling nervous and excited about going to the festival, but at least I know that they have ambulance teams on site if I need to go to hospital in case of a surprise... it's only a small festival, so I'll never be more than two fields away from a medical team if someone needs to alert them for me.

ruthosaurus · 29/03/2008 20:22

Well, I now have some wide-leg jeans from dotty p's and they're okay but I think I'm possible going to need a belt with them as well - d'oh! However, they are at least v comfy and don't look too much like maternity jeans (although DH thinks they look weird but then he hasn't got tummy cramps so can sod off). I'm with you on the braces - isn't that just going to swap butt chafing for nipple chafing, unless you put them on backwards?
My best mate called me today to tell me she's also pregnant - yay! - so will recommend mumsnet
Excitable - I'm in a damn tent for Summer Sundae music festival in Leicester in August. Was considering bringing my own loo...

Parofleurmapu · 30/03/2008 12:24

ruthosaurus - I totally know what you mean about trying to buy trousers, I always have a nightmare and I'm a 5'3" size 12, so not exactly an unusual size either. It drives me mad - trousers that fit round my arse have a foot of extra leg trailing off the ends, and trousers the right length won't even come up over my thighs

Also wanted to say that me and DP and hoping to go to Summer Sundae - we live in Leicester so not too much of a nightmare (I will be massively pregnant by then, camping probably not a great idea ). Maybe you and I will bump into each other at the soft drink stand eh!

cyteen · 30/03/2008 13:37

are hoping, not and hoping (damn wonky fingers).

bitofadramaqueen · 30/03/2008 16:19

cheers paro - do you have over or under bump ones?
