I was just wondering how many are there of us . . .

I am due end of June and love my antenatal thread as there is so much good advice there but thought it may be nice to share a little with others who are new to this whole thing too.

Anyone interested?

baiyu welcome

LilyToTheB · 13/03/2008 09:34

Hi baiyu, welcome to the thread!
Wow, 32 weeks! How are you feeling?
I can only imagine that stage, only 8 weeks to meet your baby, how exciting! Do you know what you're having?

MissChika · 13/03/2008 09:41

Morning all,

Welcome Baiyu! How exciting that you only have 8 weeks left!

CarrieHD - no stretchmarks on the tummy as yet but have a few on my hips (although they could have been there before I got pregnant!)

Took me ages to get to sleep last night - annoying neighbours from downstairs playing music too loud. I really had to stop myself from going down there and having a massive go at them! Not that they respond to that anyway - they have been the noisiest neighbours since they moved in. I'm just thinking that it will be payback time once the baby is born!

Sorry for non-pg related whinge! Hope everyone has a good day.

M x

ruthosaurus · 13/03/2008 10:34

Hi everyone! Anyone mind if I join? I think I'm at the other end of pregnancy than some of you - just found out on Monday and could be 3, could be 6 weeks! It would be lovely to talk to someone as OH is still in shock and not quite ready to talk about it yet, and we haven't told anyone else really. Pg is planned, btw.

pregnancy1 · 13/03/2008 14:35

Hello,
Can I join too ?
I am SO excited. I am 17 weeks and 5 days, due in August. Had my midwife appt yesterday and got to hear Bean's heartbeat which will keep my happy for another few weeks. Have my next scan on the 8th April and hopefully we'll then be able to start thinking of names.
Am feeling brilliant (despite constipation and random hip/bum muscle pain) - even got a seat on the tube this mornng thanks to my little bump and baby on board badge from TfL.

Does this fabulousness last? Or will I go back to the horrors of the first trimester (which btw, I was most indignant about - why does no one warn you how horrible it is?)

NikNakF · 13/03/2008 14:41

Welcome new bumps!

My nipps are HUGE and DARK too, shocking and very biazzare. He is moving now as if to say TMI DH still hasn't been able to feel him yet though

Anyway, pregnancy1 I went through that fab feeling, back to less glowy, more greasy now

MrsH - He's lovely!

MissC - Same on the stretchmarks!

wombat80 · 13/03/2008 14:47

Hi there, i am also new to the site i am due 13th june, i am getting really tired and i still can't quite believe i am pregnant, even though baby bean is kicking right now!

carrieHD9 · 13/03/2008 14:50

Hi all, welcome new people! Pregnancy1, sorry to agree with NikNak, there is a definate post glowing phase which I am entering with a vengeance! Where has my boundless energy of a few weeks ago gone?? Huffing and puffing everywhere- kevin the teenageresque with my lovely greasy hair and spots- mmm! But baby wriggling around makes up for it all.

MissC/ NikNak- found new stretchmarks today, big meaning business ones under the bump- do you find yourself wondering how large your nipples can get? Mine are some kind of unstoppable force at the min!

TJuice · 13/03/2008 15:44

hi all and welcome newcomers!

haven't spotted stretch marks yet but am worried as i feel so stretched. am slavering self with creams and oils but it may be futile.

nipples are mahoosive and puffy with a really dark ring around them (sorry tmi) - not into them at all actually.

and have learned some new words today: "nappy stacker" and "cot tidy" - didn't realise i "needed" so many things until now!

my "glow" is all faked anyway, and just depends on how much sleep i get, how well i apply my makeup and whether i am making an effort to look trendy avec bump or just frumped out. today, its the frump look, but yesterday, i was all clingy black jersey, long boots and vivienne westwood coat.

sooo need my afternoon nap now. love working part-time - off to sofa for kip . . .

MissChika · 13/03/2008 15:55

Carrie - LOL at the idea of nipples being an unstoppable force!!

Welcome to all the newbies!

Wish I could have an afternoon nap TJuice - v envious !

Kaz1967 · 14/03/2008 04:23

Welcom to anyone new

Just put Bumps latest pic on my profile. Not that pretty because they were being a real pain

ruthosaurus · 14/03/2008 10:46

Hi all,

Anyone else get v early tummy cramps? Been having them all the time but not severe, just a bit like low-grame pms cramps. Apart from that, just getting light-headed all the time. Especially in front of people who don't know yet, like colleagues. I've got about 6 weeks before I can tell anyone! How early did you tell people at work?

MrsHOP · 14/03/2008 12:14

hi all

ruthosaurus welcome - I remember being really worried about tummy cramps when I was about the same as you - in fact it was what got me into MN as I couldn't tell anyone else! I think it's a lot to do with body prepping iteself for the BIG changes that are happening, getting things into position etc...but if you are really worried you should chek it out with the MW...

I didn't tell people apart from family until I had the 3 month scan...

xx

TJuice · 14/03/2008 12:31

tummy cramps can be the womb stretching, according to my gynaecologist . . .

i have a horrible sore throat today and am tempted to take some paracetemol but haven't taken anything at all in over six months and not sure if i should . . .

salt walter gargles are just . . . nasty

OP posts:
Kaz1967 · 14/03/2008 14:16

ruthosaurus I get tummy aches and pains too I can feel my ligaments stretching stretching as bump gets bigger but also more recently I am getting what I think are branston hicks not all over but in one small spot which changes it just goes tight and is quite uncomfortable.

ruthosaurus · 14/03/2008 15:15

Thanks, all - that's v reassuring. As it's not getting worse and I'm not bleeding I'll wait til I see the MW.

Hope your sore throat gets well soon, TJuice. I dunno if this is allowed when you're pg but have you tried fresh ginger, lemon juice and honey in hot water? It's really soothing for nasty sore throats and I use it loads for colds. I wouldn't think any of the ingredients in it would be bad news for bump.

I've decided I'm going to enjoy being pg in secret for a bit and seeing if anyone guesses!

MrsHOP · 18/03/2008 15:00

hi guys, it has been mighty quiet on the newcomers thread - hope all is well?

Had a mild panic this morning realising I know little or nothing about breastfeeding - anyone know whether this is something we will learn at antenatal or should I start thinking about picking up a book and reading something finally?!!?

I feel completely fine about the whole pregnancy/labour thing as I trust my body to do what it needs to but think I need to start working out what happens afterwards when the little one is out in the wide world!

nettiehay · 18/03/2008 15:10

Hi all,
just thought I'd pop back in to say hi. I've also had a bit of a panic about breastfeeding - and also bottle feeding - I don't know anything about sterilisers or any of that stuff... am hoping i'll learn about it in antenatal classes next month.

i'm also strangely calm about the whole labour thing - I had a chat with my mum on the weekend and she found it quite easy and really loved pregnancy and the birth... so I am hoping that is an indication of what is to come for me!

NikNakF · 18/03/2008 17:30

Hi all,

MrsH - I have a book (didn't get it was given it) so you are free to have a look at it before thinking about buying it. I haven't dared open it yet, maybe next time we catch up? Knitting and breastfeeding x

carrieHD9 · 18/03/2008 17:39

Nettie, MrsHOP, know what you mean, have been so busy feeling guilty about not reading the pregnancy books diligently enough, now getting to time when lack of knowledge about post pregnancy things becoming apparent! the unopened baby books will have to be faced I think.. also trying to stay calm though and not stress about whole thing, partner says his mum will come over and help me out every day as much as I need, and she is a sweet woman so in itself not a horror, but the idea of exposing the full gaping hole of my knowledge¡ probably whilst weeping and sleep deprivation induced crying ´i can´t believe i ever thought we should have this baby´ (her grandchild) is grim to comtemplate. Will just have to make sure I watch enough Jeremy Kyle to reassure myself I´m not doing so badly on the scale of things.....

MrsHOP · 19/03/2008 09:50

hi guys,

would love to have a look at your bf book Niknak - great idea! though my knitting isn't very good...might have to get my mum involved if you want an expert

Carrie, Jeremy Kyle might just tip you over the edge!! I have heard there is some sort of natural instinct that kicks in that helps us to cope...here's hoping eh?!

TJuice · 19/03/2008 13:33

well, we are novices now, but in less than a year we will be the smug sages who have just been through it all . . . .

i am now back in the uk, chilling at my parents place. my mum went totally potty buying clothes for her grand-daughter (currently named "molly") - two massive drawers full of monsoon, ralph lauren and elle babyclothes! i have only really bought (very good condition) second hand, so its lovely.
trying to work out how i am going to ship the pram, baby mattress, swing and other paraphenalia back to Copenhagen now . . . .

while i am here, i think i will pop into waterstones and buy some more books to scare the bejaysus out of me (gina ford last time - maybe something on breastfeeding this time - or even childbirth)

i dare any of you to search for childbirth on youtube! some crazy videos - not for the faint-hearted.

would you assume that most cheeses here in the uk (say from Marks and Spencer) are pasteurised? i was eating some sunblush tomatoes and mozzerella ball salad from there yesterday and suddenly wondered. what about feta here? do you all eat it?

i have a website to write for a restaurant but i am soooooo procrastinating right now. really can't be bothered to write - i am on holiday!

hope everyone else is doing well. who is jeremy kyle?

TJuice I have been eating mozarella all the way through - reckon it is fine...esp from M&S...I haven't eaten any feta though...

Ooh just thought I'd say I bought a pair of H&M mat jeans (grey skinnies) on ebay, with big over bump band, and they are fab, much better fit than Topshop - I remember someone else on this thread was raving about them and I second that!

What's everyone up to tonight? I have decided I am having a weekly ritual of chip shop chips & curry sauce and Americas Next Top Model (complete TV dirge but a guilty pleasure of mine) - hey, if I can't do it now, when the hell can I?
