Combination Car Seats (Group O+/1) for newborns

Hello All. While looking into options for car seats, I found that there is the combination car sear which starts from newborn to 18kg.

What I wanted to know was whether any of you had bought one for your newborn, and how you found it. I've tried looking for recommendations from people who used them from birth but failed to find anything so far

I've had a comment from a midwife that they aren't sure these are suitable for newborns because of their position when seated in it.

All comments greatly appreciated.

We have a Graco Junior Mini which we got for dd when she outgrew her first car seat. It is described as being suitable from birth when rear facing and in full recline but although it is a lovely car seat for a bigger child I don't think that it looks like it would support a new baby properly.

We have the Britax one for our son. It had an insert that made it into a more reclined position for the first few months and I think it was fine. We're planning to use it again for our next baby.

One huge advantage of these from a safety perspective is that your child will not grow out of the rear facing position as quickly. So many of our friends moved their babies into a forward facing seat as soon as they reached the 9kg mark because they were outgrowing their infant seat. However, babies are so much safer in a rear facing seat in a crash! Their necks are not as strong as adults and ideally they would stay rear-facing as long as they can. We have kept our DS rear-facing (he's 19 months) and don't plan to move him to forward facing until the new baby arrives (he'll be 23 months) or if he has a sudden weight spurt (unlikely now) and exceeds the 13kg the seat is rated to.

Thank you both for your speedy replies . I was looking through reviews and saw a combi seat in there - Britax first class si. will look into that as well as see what others may write.
