My twins are due in May and it would be nice to have other multiple-mums-to-be to chat to!

I must go nowhere near TAMBA, by the sound of it. PBH, they're obviously going to keep a v.close eye on you to ensure any problems can be seen immediately so that should be reassuring? I must admit, I've found the level of care whilst having dt's to be quite exceptional round here, I guess I do miss seeing a m/w regularly but the consultant & her registrars are all wonderful. My after-care m/w from ds2 is still around, my neighbour had a dd last week & she was visiting, so that's nice.

I haven't read a huge amount, Mel & PBH, but you can see from the multiple birth threads on here that babies born at 34 weeks or even under that do really well. My friend had hers at 33 weeks and although they were in SCBU for a month, they look like your average one year olds now, no problems whatsoever and it gave her a chance to recover from a difficult birth and the twins came home on a routine. Can both of you visit the SCBU so you know what to expect, this is what I planned to do when warned I might go into prem labour.

Mars, thanks, I had asked whether one could be sited but not administered but dr not v.keen, I can't quite remember why as surely they could then administer v.quickly? I had this last time as there was risk of cord prolapse (or something) with ds2. I do quite like knowing I can have an epi as I found the pain pretty difficult to deal with last time.

mel2005 · 12/09/2008 13:02

PBH i dont think mine can get TTTS as the placentas are seperate, one at the back and one at the front. i got her to show me where they were as if they are fused they can still TTTS. i am assuming that it could be something to do with me not being tall or something and that we will be 37 weeks a few days before xmas.
i have a couple of books on premmies so i could prepare myself and the chances of survival without any disabilities is really high for 34weeks +. this book is really good
www.amazon.co.uk/Preemies-Essential-Parents-Premature-Babies/dp/067103491X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=book s&qid=1221220133&sr=8-3
i also have this one
www.amazon.co.uk/Your-Premature-Baby-Child-Tracy/dp/042516506X/ref=pd_sim_b_2
i would recommend the top book as it has survival rates/chances of disabilities for birth at gestational ages. i like to know where they stand if they did come early so i did find this useful. it also deals with the equipment at the hospital etc. its a big book but you will not need to read it all yet but at least you will have it if you do need it.
the bottom book is more about after they are born and coming home.

i hope i will not need them but at least it will not be so confusing and scary if they do come early and need to stay in.

poorbuthappy · 12/09/2008 13:33

Thanks MEL, off to Amazon I go!

MerryMarigold · 12/09/2008 17:00

Went to hospital today for diabetes check and midwife said, "gosh, you're getting enormous." Good choice of words - how thoughtful! And then went to Tescos where FOUR people spontaneously came up to me and said, "you must be due any minute. When are you due? November... Oh my goodness!" [cue shocked face, pity etc.] Arghhhhhhhhhhh. One of them was really sweet though, kept rubbing my arm and saying 'God bless!".

Today I am feeling a bit like how can I hang on for 3 more weeks, let alone 7. Accessorize, I take my hat off to you, and you haven't even moaned about it! You are a super Mum!

PBH, at this rate you will be dying to have them out at 34 weeks, anyway! Make sure you eat really, really well now, get them as large and well developed as possible. I have a book by Barbara Luke which is good on this. Tbh, I only really followed it when thought it was triplets and I was petrified. Also the 'Mothering Multiples' book has a lot about diet in it.

MarsLady · 12/09/2008 18:08

AQ... I hope you told him you weren't bothered about how keen he was! lol

GBB... does that give you hope? 'Friend' was incredible. I was SO SO proud of her. They're settling well at home as well

PazzaPlusTwo · 12/09/2008 20:09

pbh - i thinknit's amazing what the docs can find out these days, keep an eye on, take precautionary measures for ... I'm sure you're in good hands and your DTs will be just fine.

PazzaPlusTwo · 12/09/2008 20:10

i think it's

nits?

its been a long week ladies ... have a good weekend

xx

jenwa · 14/09/2008 20:55

accessorizequeen Hey there, sorry to gatecrash your thread but just seen you still about and was hoping all was ok? Not seen you on oct thread and everyone keeps mentioning you and whether your little ones have arrived yet? How many weeks are you now? Are you aiming for natural?

Glad to see you on here still and fingers crossed all goes well with your birth.

GettingBiggerBird · 15/09/2008 09:09

AQ I guess this may well be the week, if you're not already in labour? Mind you, that's a really unhelpful comment when you're waiting, sorry. I remember how much it drove me mad with DD who was a couple of weeks over, so goodness knows what it'll be like with twins when people start asking from about week 32.

MM I went out dancing on Friday (I KNOW!) (paid for it for the rest of the weekend though, the DTs did not like it one bit and have kicked the hell out of me ever since, especially when I got home at 2am on Sat morning ), and had to put up with guffaws from everyone about the fact I'm this size at just 25 weeks. It's so embarassing saying the due date!

Mars - yes, so proud of 'friend' and it definitely gives me hope for the Homerton being amenable to a natural labour if everything goes OK.

accessorizequeen · 15/09/2008 11:23

Still here...and prepared to moan now, MM! I am completely fed up, walking is extremely painful, I wake every hour at night because I'm so uncomfortable, turning over is agony and the swelling on my feet, hands and belly is ugly and aching. In fact I think I've gained pounds just from fluid in last week, there's a massive pouch of it on my belly urggghhh. My feet look like slabs of meat with sausages on the end, I want my body back!!!

38 weeks on Weds, seeing consultant for possible sweep tomorrow so I think they'll be out within the week. Hope the swelling doesn't mean pre-eclampsia but no other indicators so far. Wld be v.unhappy if I had to have section after thinking all this time I could go for nb. It would make life v.difficult. Although if I got into gear and hired a p/t nanny as I am supposed to be doing, it would help! I don't want someone in my house, but my dad's paying and I know I need the help.

GBB, seriously seriously impressed at dancing until 2am. Keep on until you can't stop!

Hi, Jenwa, sorry don't have time/energy any more to keep up with due in October although I check now and again to see who'll be first to burst! Possibly me, I guess Hope all is well with your lo.

mel2005 · 15/09/2008 12:02

they will let you send a courier as well.

mel2005 · 15/09/2008 12:02

oh gosh its gone!!!!

MerryMarigold · 15/09/2008 12:08

Oh wow, Mel. That went fast. I just picked ds from playschool while you were posting and it's already gone! Anyway: CONFESSION. I got one yesterday - new, but the 2007 model and got it in brown, which is cheaper AND I prefer it. So...been extravagant, but just couldn't face paying more than 400 for something 2ndhand. How did that one get so cheap?! (All the adjustable handle ones seem to be going for more than 400.00, which is odd).

Accessorize, man, I can't imagine how you feel. I feel so much worse than 4 weeks ago and you are 6 weeks ahead of me. You're doing amazingly. The swollen feet and water retention don't sound good. They need to come out NOW. Hope the sweep 'works' tomorrow and you have twins on Wednesday 17th September. My Grandma would have been 101 tomorrow, so Dad was a bit keen I have them on her birthday. Don't think it's gonna happen (hope not). Today I am so tired, and I have a headache...despite having a very restful weekend.

GBB, don't know how on earth you did the dancing. I would be paying for that for several weeks! I turned down going to the cinema yesterday! Good you could do it though, now while you can.

mel2005 · 15/09/2008 12:18

i was sooooo tempted to buy it and pass it on to someone on here but you are all so far away and it would have added and extra £20 in postage. i couldnt remember who wanted one and it went so fast.

i love the chocolate colour fabrics and will probably be tempted to get some new fabrics when the twins are 6 months and it would be chocolate or plum.

jenwa · 15/09/2008 12:33

Accessorize No probs about Oct thread, we just thinking of you please do come back and let us know when baby's born though and how you are.

I would def go with the nanny thing, I used to be a nanny but can imagine its strange being in the house the same time (the mum I nannied for was working FT so only saw her beginng and end of day) but you will have someone to talk to and someone to help out even with the small things such as bottle making (if you bottle feed) and taking babies for walk whilst you rest etc. I am sure you will find it really helpful in the long run.

Good luck with everything and hope you get the natural birth you want.
Take care

accessorizequeen · 16/09/2008 11:00

Thanks, Jenwa I rang someone yesterday, and the agency will hopefully contact me this week although hopefully I am in hospital!! DP & I tried to work out how on earth to get ds1 to school and ds2 to nursery with dt's in tow on my own and decided it was impossible!!

Merry, v.pleased to hear you've got your MB! We've had no response from this guy, dp emailed him again on the weekend. Also, the other buggy I ordered is not going to arrive until start of October so I have nothing now to push them round in. Am feeling v.upset about it and don't know what to do. Really angry with this guy for selling us a dud and with myself for buying it. Mel, oh wise buggy guru, what would be your advice? Should I get a new double carrycot? Is there a way to clean up the scratches on the chassis (really bad)? And how much do new seat covers cost anyway? I have to say I was a little put off by how huge the MB is in my living room (now in the garage) but I haven't attempted to push it round the garden or anything. Help, anyone? If I'm going to order something I need to do it asap.

MerryMarigold · 16/09/2008 11:27

Good Luck with your sweep today, AQ. You may not really need the new buggy before the beginning of October. Can you just use car seats for the time being to cart them around, it's only a couple of weeks away, and some of that will be in hospital...can you hassle them for any earlier delivery?

Definitely get dh on this guy's back though...how long since you haven't heard? Is it worth getting paypal involved? Have you given negative feedback? It does tend to get a response.

I would wait before buying more MB stuff as you may get on really well with the other buggy and decide you only want the MB later on when they are out of carrycot stage and you are feeling a bit more like dealing with ebayers!

Hope the nanny works out too...that is a perfect gift from your Dad.

I am feeling stressed today. Been really, really moody past couple of days. Feels like there is so much to do...

Can I ask, AQ, how much 'tiny baby' stuff have you got? I think I only have 2 babygros, rest is newborn (mostly from friends), but looks quite large. Even ds at over 8lbs fit newborn for a while. Should I get some more tiny baby stuff?

MerryMarigold · 16/09/2008 11:31

By the way, AQ, don't be upset with yourself for buying it. How on earth were you to know? You go on description and pics and if it looked ok and the description was not accurate then it's not your fault at all. I bought a bit of a dud for ds1, we ended up keeping it as she would not refund and we paid cash (we picked it up but didn't know what we were looking at and didn't notice quite a few things wrong including the fact the harness didn't work, just not something I thought to check!). I gave her negative feedback. I noticed someone else did too very shortly after us (sadly not before) and then she stopped trading (under that name anyway).

poorbuthappy · 16/09/2008 11:38

Morning all!

Feeling a bit better this week cos some major decisions have been taken in our household over the weekend regarding me going back to work -it will mean that we won't be holidaying anywhere nice, or buying anything at a drop of a hat, but I do think the positives outweigh the negatives!

Anyway - my gripe of the week (day, hour, minute, delete as applicable) is the possibility of the babies being in SCBU over Christmas.... I have not thought about going home without them until now...and I watched a programe over the weekend where the mummy left her twins at the hospital and I cried, and cried and cried for about an hour.
Bloody hell, why is it that you lot are all excited and talking about buying stuff and I am all doom and gloom!

Please feel free to slap me and tell me how lucky I am...very unlike me to be like this...must be hormones!!!!
Save me someone!!!!!

Hope you are all doing ok - how's the car MEL??

GettingBiggerBird · 16/09/2008 11:59

PBH don't worry - we've all had our moments - I cried for two hours last week because the house is messy, at least you've got something real to worry about. These hormones just ambush you, I don't think I've felt any genuine joy about anything through this whole pregnancy though things are definitely a lot better now than they were a few weeks ago, so take heart. Maybe you could buy a couple of little pairs of booties or baby grows to make it all seem more real?

AQ good luck!!! Wishing you a Happy Sweep Day! [trying not to wince emoticon]

accessorizequeen · 16/09/2008 12:06

pbh, if it makes you feel any better I am a miserable cow at the moment and not remotely excited about anything but the possibility of a nap before I go to the hospital! I too would feel very at prospect of christmas without my dt's. Is this for certain, are you going to talk to consultant about a later section & would that then mean Jan rather than late December?
We can slap each other if you like, I need a pick me up desperately! I am crying at the drop of a hat, this has been going on for weeks now and getting annoyed at anyone who says you look ready to drop or are you still here? So Merry you are certainly not only hormonal one!! I can't believe dp's putting up with me, I am sooooo moody and whining about everything.

Merry, you're probably right re: buggies, but I did think it would be nice to finally walk ds1 to school with the buggy (and I suppose ds2 in tow as well), it was just a little dream after being confined to just driving which I can barely manage either for months now. I could get an orange or a green city mini double but the red ones are sold out everywhere and dp & I really wanted a red one. We've wanted a red buggy for years and this is no.7!! I think we will have to involve paypal in this dispute at some point but at the moment we're not even sure the guy reads his email, he's not selling anything else. DP has his phone number, but reluctant to ring him as I would be too. I'm just so cross with myself that I've researched buggies for months and end up with nothing when dt's will arrive any day.

Re: newborn clothes, I don't have that much for the boy twin but have been sent a pile of stuff by a mumsnetter recently for girl twin. I do think they'll be in newborn stuff a lot more than my other 2 were. There isn't an NCT sale near you is there coming up as that's a great way to pick up a huge pile of stuff cheap, or sometimes you get stacks of sleepsuits sold as one item on ebay, might be worth a look. Mothercare had buy one set of sleepsuits get one half price last time I was there too. I'm assuming girl will be smaller so have more newborn stuff for her. When you think about it, loads of photos in first weeks and nice to have stuff that fits them, I'm not bothered if it's 2ndhand at all. Also the more stuff you have, the less washing you need to do - that's my motto! Car boot sales also excellent for cheap baby clothes, the stuff my mum got me the other week looked new as well!

mel2005 · 16/09/2008 14:32

PBH the cars lovely and its huge inside.
i felt depressed today so i went to the crop shop and had a haircut, it only cost £10!!!! so i gave har a £10 tip as its a nice short layered bob, very well cut. it was a really long mess so now i feel wonderful.

i have got quite alot of early baby stuff for both of mine because my little girl was born 40+4 weeks and 6lb14 and was still in early baby clothes for over a month. i am sure the twins will need them at the start. i bought quite alot of clothes from e-bay, a local nearly new baby sale and loads of next clothes from the car boot sale last weekend. also george at asda have some great long sleeved white bodysuits 5 for £1.50 or something like that. i always buy them from there and the last lot i had lasted two children and will do the twins as well. they are lovely and thick. i dont tend to buy baby clothes from them as they dont last long, secondhand next clothes are a much better buy as they can easily last several children.
i have bought new with tags next clothes from the car boot sale before for 25p each!!!
i havent had the energy to go alot this summer, only a few times but it is worth going if you can.

i hadnt really thought about them being in SCBU over xmas. i am hoping they will be home with us. but we are lucky that we are not that far from the hospital.

AQ i would start an item not as described dipute with paypal as he has had enough time to respond to your e-mail. it will probably get him to reply. make sure you take some photos of the damage to send to e-bay if they ask. dont wait any longer as there is a time limit i think.

poorbuthappy · 16/09/2008 15:30

And now I've just made MEL think about SCBU over christmas!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhh!
(by the way need pics of hair do please...)

AQ - apparently they want them out by 36 weeks at the latest which is 12th Dec...(due date is 9/01)

mel2005 · 16/09/2008 18:16

PBH fingers crossed we will both have them at 36 weeks and be home for christmas.
are you feeling REALLY REALLY TIRED at the moment? i feel like i havent slept for a week but i have had a fairly good nights sleep the last few days and i still wake up really tired. the twins have obviously had a growth spurt as i am alot bigger since my 20 week scan. i am now starting to feel hungry most of the time and i am trying to snack when i get chance. i just can get over how tired i am all day.
