MM, I was the same in the 1st trimester, very bad digestion, it just seemed to stop. I've had the odd day like that since - I guess when my body's preoccupied with other things . I spent most of yesterday on the sofa or bed after a flurry of activity early on cleaning the kitchen - I'm sure my DH just thinks I'm putting it on to avoid the cleaning. He's developed his own ailments recently - bad knee, shoulder etc, presumably to get him off the worst of my demands.

I have decided on a buggy because it's been offered for free - the MB double (not sure which one). Just on the lookout for a twin carrycot and we're sorted. I don't have any awkward school runs so don't need to attach car seats, thankfully - DD's nursery is about 150 yds away.

Jenny, good for you, very brave - Jane Evan's number is 01582 769408. She's very knowledgeable and really worth talking to.

MerryMarigold · 11/08/2008 21:27

oooooooh, i am excited. we found our car! (i think)... it was a bit of nightmare at cargiant as we could only look at one car at a time and had to trek back and forth to the reception and queue each time, so couldn't look at everything although we did check out everything from the outside. there was no salesperson to help or ask questions. but anyway, we looked at citroen c8, peugot 807, seat alhambra and toyota previa. really, really liked the previa, it has more boot space than the others by some way (don't think we need to remove any seats for the buggy!) AND sliding doors. we'll go back tomorrow and maybe also take a look at the renault grand espace, which seemed a good size too.

Just wanted to say hi to ewemoo as am also expecting id twins due a bit later 18 Feb (though they'll prob be sooner I guess). I have an 18 month old. Nice to hear about another mum expecting id twins. Hope it's all going well, am feeling a bit less sick the last couple of days, not out of the woods yet though. Hopefully soon though.

jennyroper · 12/08/2008 13:32

hello thank you for Jane Evans' number, I have managed to contact her on email to ask for any tips and ideas she has had from delivering twins. The more information we can gather the better. Mars Lady have you got any tips? I think I read somewhere you have bags of child birth experience
My midwife has given me a list of things to eat to help keep the littlies as long as possible and to keep iron levels up. Thought I would share them with you all.
magnesium calcium supplement
Floridix Iron tonic
pumpkin seeds
almonds
molasses (2 - 3 tbsp per day!!! yuck!)
spirulina
Ooooh I love a project.
She also said to eat high protein snacks every 3 to 4 hours.
Yum yum, peanut butter and vegemite sandwiches.
She said nutrition was so important to keep them in. If they are both head down and go beyond 37 weeks then we will be hauling out a tarpaulin to protect our new carpets (my husband's main worry ha ha ha).
I feel really relaxed now knowing that homebirth is a serious possibility. Aren't we lucky to have so many choices

Hullo all, jenny nice to see you again

GBB, very of a free MB! I can't find one secondhand at all. Am reconsidering the Baby Jogger City Mini as it's getting a bit tight now, think I'll be induced about 15th Sept if they don't arrive before then. Both head down, apparently unlikely that twin1 will be able to go breech again so all go for a vb.

Merry & Mel, have you chosen/got your cars yet? We've just finished another mammoth session and discussing it (sigh) and decided that it's either the Galaxy or we'll have a look at a Chrysler Voyager this week which fits the bill.

Am in chaos as my lovely, generous mother is repainting our hideous, disgusting hallway this week for us. So important to have a nice hallway for twins, non? And a new car seat arrived for the twins today, it's quite hideous in lime green but as it was nearly £20 cheaper than the other ones I'll have to live with it!

AQ - I know, I'm so lucky to be given this MB, I can't believe how expensive they are. There's one on Twinsclub for £475 unused, still seems very expensive but a lot cheaper than new - still too much? It's the carrycot I've fallen for, can't wait to see what the LOs look like snuggled up together in one.

Well, looks like there's only me and Merry near to each other, though I do spend quite a lot of time with friends in North Norfolk, Mel. I'd love to move up there in a few years but all us Londoners have driven house prices through the roof. Merry - did you make contact with TAMEE? I must find out when the next meet is, maybe I'll see you there?

mel2005 · 13/08/2008 10:28

GBB i must admit i love norfolk, its nice to go to the beach when you want to. i grew up in a coastal village and spent most of my childhood in the sandunes. i spent a while in cornwall as well which is a magical place.
i found London rather scary, which seems a bit silly. i hated going to teaching confrences there.

there is a great MB double with two single carrycots on e-bay BIN for £300, which is a good price
cgi.ebay.co.uk/mountain-buggy-urban-twin-with-carry-cots_W0QQitemZ120293816695QQihZ002QQcategoryZ536 81QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
its pick up only in derbyshire but you could ask if it could be boxed and you could arrange a courier (senditnow are good and cheap). it has the newer style raincover with the zips which is much better than the old ones. if i didnt have one already i would be tempted. you could always sell the carrycots and buy a twin one.

we have chosen the Citroen C8 or the Peugeot 807, OH wants the leather seats so it has been hard finding one, whe have our eye on a citroen locally but they didnt offer us as much as we wanted part exchange so my car is on e-bay at the moment, as soon as it sells we will go in with the cash and do a deal hopefully.

accessorizequeen · 13/08/2008 13:00

Oooh, ooh, just bought that mountain buggy, mel! Thanks! I think my stepdad can pick it upon the way back from a trip shortly but it's not too far from us anyway, bout an hour & a half. I did want a twin carrycot really but I'll see. Just hope it's alright because it does seem quite a bargain!

jennyroper · 13/08/2008 14:39

accessorizequeen you are brilliant getting all your stuff ready for the babies already. Top organisation. It seems like onl;y yesterday I found out i was having twins, looked on mumsnet and you had just found out too. I though this pregnancy would drag by as i found out so early but it is flying by.
mel i love norfolk. my friend has a house in Hunstanton and we have been going for years and years for sneaky weekends here and there.
We live at the beach too in New Zealand (I'm in England for a few months seeing family) and it's a real luxury being able to swim and play in the sand with children.
those double pushchairs are frighteningly expensive aren't they? i sold my last car for £300 and am going to have to spend more on a pushchair! how strange

accessorizequeen · 13/08/2008 15:21

it certainly does go whizzing past, jenny! I'm lucky in that I'm off work so have a few days a week to get things sorted. But of course I am due two months earlier than you! 33 weeks today eek. Mountain buggies are made in NZ, so ought to be a darn sight cheaper for you as they're imported for us. I am an aussie, did I mention that? But living in Yorkshire for nigh on 15 years now since my parents came over & I am engaged to a british boy

MerryMarigold · 13/08/2008 15:25

accessorize, no not got the car yet...someone told us Chrysler Grand Voyager is manufactured by Mercedes! Not sure if also true of Voyager. V good price if they are. They look great and I think maybe the seats fold up into the floor, so you don't have to find somewhere to store them in the house, didn't seem any more pricey either.

I picked up my MB carrycots and maxi cosi car seats yesterday from a very, VERY posh place in London. The lady was lovely (also a Mum of twins) and everything is absolutely immaculate. I paid £170 for everything. Still trying to get a good deal on a MB. Someone on my antenatal thread got one for £100! And once we've got the car, if it has isofix then I can get the isofix bases. I am getting the blankets I ordered from another mumsnetter tomorrow, so things are beginning to come together. The carrycots are SO CUTE, definitely helped me get past panic to acceptance ...although I do still have many relapses into panic. (I am not a panicky person at all, if you knew me, you would be surprised what this pregnancy has done to me).

Wow, accessorize, 15th September is soooo near. You must be jumping with excitement (on the inside of course!). I can't wait to see pics of your 2, and to hear the 'final' girl's name! Hee hee hee. Thanks so much for the trousers again, I am wearing them today and have worn them sooooo much. They are really comfortable and practical and flattering (as far as ANYTHING can be flattering right now).

Hope all is well with everyone. ANy appointment updates. I've got a hosp appointment on Friday, get test results then and hopefully have a conversation about he birth.

accessorizequeen · 13/08/2008 16:04

Merry, well done for carrycots & car seats, these MB doubles are certainly hard to find! I thought you were getting a twin carrycot, did you decide on singles? Maxicosi cabriofix are lovely car seats, very pleased with mine (despite the urgh colour) perhaps a snuggle or something to cover it up hmmm. It is nice to tick things off the list & the panic subsides for a few days. We weren't remotely organised with ds2 as he came at 37 weeks (42 with ds1!) and it was chaos for 6 weeks after I came back from the hospital. Trying to avoid that this time!

Glad trousers getting use, they certainly would have sat in the wardrobe here not being! Hope the appt goes well, I kept my consultant for some time on Monday asking qu's and am back in again next monday due to the bank holiday week after.

MerryMarigold · 13/08/2008 16:40

accessorize, I wanted singles so I can unclip babies and carry them in the house if they are sleeping. A double won't get through my door without tipping it sideways! (so babies would need to come out). I think you mentioned putting them both in one single carrycot if they are small enough, so may do that for a couple of weeks...though I have a feeling if these come out at 38 weeks they will be around 7lbs. At the moment they are both the same size, how about yours?

mel2005 · 13/08/2008 16:48

oh i forgot to say accessorize i quite like the green colour of the maxi-cosi seats they have in kiddycare. they are a great store, i have been there a few times and ordered things from them as they are often the cheapest. i have been tempted to get the green ones as well. i am keeping my eyes on the john lewis website. i need two so i am looking for a bargain. i have already got the bases though.

congratulations on your new MB, you could sell the carrycots on e-bay you would get about £100. the twin ones are going for less than that. you wouldnt be able to click the twin carrycot off with babies still in it without some help. but probably would with the singles.

MBs last for ever, i bought one that needed a bit of mending on the fabrics because i think she had been sitting a child on the hood. it was a bargain.
you will probably be able to sell it after using it for a few years for the same as you bought it for.

MerryMarigold · 13/08/2008 19:04

mel, how do you get an MB fixed? do you go to them or does 'someone down the road' do it? there is one on ebay with a screw missing.

mel2005 · 13/08/2008 21:35

if its the double with the fixed handle,
cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mountain-Buggy-DOUBLE-Urban-pushchair-AMAZING_W0QQitemZ330259938603QQihZ014QQcategory Z66700QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
i sounds like the wheel nuts, they are £5 for 3 from here.
www.pushchairs.co.uk/acatalog/miscellaneous_spares.html
actually it could be the bit that puts the wheel in fixed wheel mode but i wouldnt have thought you could get that from a hardwear store. ask her if its the screw in the middle of the wheel? if it is its the wheel nut.
you can call pushchairs.co.uk, they are very helpful and know everything about mountain buggies. or you can call MB UK

you know this is the older version with the fixed handle and the double baskets. its bigger to get in the car. i am not 100% sure if the newer carrycots fit it. it would be best to check. the newer version carrycots have clips to attach it so as long as the frame is the same size they will probably fit.

MerryMarigold · 13/08/2008 22:08

thanks so much, mel. i don't know which are older/ newer. when did newer ones come in if I ask the year it was made. the carrycots i got are very new (couple of years old max) and have the clips. bigger to get in the car is not good! it's good to know the website where you can get parts.

mel2005 · 14/08/2008 08:41

the newer version came in 2005, it has the adjustable handle and one big basket with handy little pockets.
there was a recall on some of the early adjustable handle ones and if you get one dont worry you just send it to MB UK and they put a new handle on them. i think most will have been done by now. i have had a single one that was part of the recall and it was fine.
cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mountain-Buggy-Urban-Twin-Pram-used-less-than-10-times_W0QQitemZ330260455430QQihZ014Q QcategoryZ53681QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
this could be a recall one, i am sure that i was told that they have silver buttons on the outside of the handle. most have black buttons on the inside, again i would check with MB if you dont have time to send it back to them.

this one has black buttons on the inside of the handle
cgi.ebay.co.uk/mountain-buggy-urban-twin-with-carry-cots_W0QQitemZ120293816695QQihZ002QQcategoryZ536 81QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

i would call the lovely lady at MB UK

U.K. & Ireland

Mill Farm, Fairmile, Ottery St Mary
Devon EX11 1LS, England
Phone: +44 01 404 815 555 or 07000 4 BUGGY (07000 428 449)
Fax: +44 01 404 815 444
Email: [email protected]

she will be able to tell you definately if your carrycots will fit.

i used to have an audi a4 and i bought a cheap MB terrain off e-bay for £40, it didnt have the adjustable handle and when i went to pick it up it took us 40 mins to get it in the car. i had to sell it because i wanted it for the beach and it was so hard to get it in because it was so much bigger and i couldnt see out of the back window. the newer version urban with the adjustable handle fitted in nice and flat in the boot.

accessorizequeen · 14/08/2008 12:33

Mel, you are truly a MB expert I think the ones with adjustable handles far far better, I adjust mine all the time. Just popping in for 2 mins as staying at mums to avoid paint fumes from newly painted hall.
