...or Hayes or Beckenham or Petts Wood. Just wondering if there are any of you out there...I'm a first time mum due in May/June and would like to meet a few 'locals' as we have been in Bromley for four years without really making an effort. That's working in London for you!

I'm in Orpington - also a 1st time mum due end April... (although I don't know if you would classify me as a local as I'm South African!)

makecakesnotwar · 08/01/2008 13:18

I'll take it where I can get it mum2b...how long have you been here?

OP posts:
Mum2b2BabyRoo · 08/01/2008 18:30

In the country for 9 years and in Orpington for about 7! So a while then! But same as you I've not really made that much of an effort about getting out there (also work in London) and am really keen now to make new mates - especially ones that are expecting around the same time as me!

Which hospital are you having your baby at? How are you feeing and how has your pregnancy been so far?

timmyinatizzy · 09/01/2008 10:42

I'm in Orpington too. I'm due beginning of March, a first timer, but have 2 step duaghters. I've lived here for 4 and a half years and only know the girls classmates mums at school. And guess what, I work in London too. Can't wait to stop that daily commute into Victoria. Although I always get a seat.

indiechick · 09/01/2008 10:48

Oooh, can I join? I'm due in May with my second. Used to work in London also but have been working locally for the last 2 years.

Lazylou · 09/01/2008 10:48

I'm in Penge which isn't that far from Beckenham. I have DD who will be 4 this month and due with DC2 in May/June.

Deese20 · 09/01/2008 22:17

How nice, can I join in too? I'm in Penge/Anerley (only been here a year and not sure which one) but head the other way for work, down to Crawley, near Gatwick.
I'm due with my first in June. We all seem to be around roughly the same time. How's has it been so far?

shaz14h · 12/01/2008 13:22

im due in may. my 1st i live in bromley have done all my life. im 25 plan to have mine at PRU hospital

Lazylou · 13/01/2008 13:47

Same here for PRUH. Had DD there and it was ok, so was offered a choice this time, there or Mayday and so I said I would go back there. Better the devil you know and all that!

makecakesnotwar · 17/01/2008 16:55

I'm for the PRUH also- it's close enough that I can get the bus if I need to. I am very familiar with layout despite this being my first baby because was 'assisted conception' and I have been in twice already with suspected ectopic!!

Still-21 weeks today so slowly edging towards May....

Oh, and DH has decided we should move house. Just need to sell ours...........any takers?

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 17/01/2008 17:13

Wow - loads going on in your life then makecakes! Are you going to remain in the area?

Gosh - very glad for you that it was only suspected ectopic - what a scary thing to have gone through. Are you okay now?

I'm also for the PRUH and am happy with it. I have several freinds in the area who have had their babies there, and were happy enough. Only complaint really is that the after care isn't great.

Deese20 · 18/01/2008 17:45

makecakes - that sounds like a big upheaval to do right now. When hubby and i moved into area, it took 7mths and lots of stress to complete. You going to stay local?

Has anyone looked at antenatal classes yet or can advise? NCT is £289, which seems a lot. How does theirs compare to the NHS ones? Am 1st timer and keen to do class somewhere.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 18/01/2008 19:06

Deese20 - regarding antenatal classes - I too balked at the cost of NCT, and the hospital classes are too full to fit me in! Luckily I found out about these ones. The Kent class is in Canterbury - about an hour from us, but that's fine because the class cost is so reasonable, and run by midwives. The lady I spoke to was lovely and we are now booked in. Have a look - and let me know what you think!

makecakesnotwar · 20/01/2008 16:56

Definitely going to stay in the area. Bromley is great!

Have bitten the bullet on the NCT classes...every woman I ever worked for (used to be a nanny) has been on them and swears that they are great, so I didn't really bother with alternatives. The annoying thing is that you have to book early, so I'd paid up before I'd had the 12 wweek scan.

Are you guys going to any other classes- yoga, pilates etc? Do you know what there is to do around here for pregnant/new mums?

OP posts:
Deese20 · 27/01/2008 22:12

Thanks for that. Hard to know as is 1st, just how much prep i need to do. But had a look and the course Mum2B gave sounds good. Think we'll do the one day one.
Not sure MakesCakes bout the Bromley area. I've seen a local Yoga class but is in Crystal Palace. Which reminds me, I must start that.

morre · 25/02/2008 18:57

Hi guys, can I join? I am Belgian, married to Mexican and in UK for 8 years. My 2nd child is due 28 July and I have been living in Orpington for 2 years now, due to job in London do not know anyone in this area. Today I changed my 8 year old daughter to a local school in Petts Wood as I am finally not commuting to London anymore. I was looking for an antenatal yoga class in the area any idea?

littlesweety · 26/02/2008 01:21

Hi, I live in Bromley for the past year and I am expecting my first baby on 30th March. One thing I am looking forward to is some new classes in Bromley starting soon for mothers and babies. I got a leaflet from the doctors surgery and it looks really interesting since you can exercise and dance whilst having the baby with you. Have a look it looks a lot of fun. the website is www.latinobambino.co.uk If anyone else is interested maybe we can arrange to go there.

morre · 26/02/2008 09:44

Hi littlesweety, that's a great site unfortunately I'm only due end of July, by then you'll be back in shape!! Have you been to any pre antal yoga classes?

morre · 26/02/2008 09:47

To all those living in Orpington, Petts Wood, Chislehurst area, it would be great to meet you guys for a coffee or so, I just stopped working in London and do not know anybody in the area. Let me know if interested!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 26/02/2008 13:24

There is a yoga class in Petts Wood (United Reform Church, Willet Way, (on the corner of Tudor Way))every Monday fro 7 - 8:30pm. Contact [email protected] for more info.

I'm up for a meet up - give up work on 14 March so after that would be good for me!

morre · 26/02/2008 14:16

Thank Mum2b2BabyRoo, that's good news about the class my friend and I have been looking for ages. Looking forward meeting you! I was still supposed to work this week, but as my daughter started Crofton School yesterday (moved her from Chelsea London) I couldn't be bothered to rush around any longer!

bashboid · 02/03/2008 18:45

Hi people, I'm expecting my first baby on 9 April and live in Grove Park so not too far from Bromley. I'm definitely up for that latinobambino class - looks like great fun! Just finished work on Friday so also up for a meet up anytime. DP is worried I'm going to get bored sitting around home on my own as everyone I know works but, to be honest, I'm quite looking forward to just putting my feet up for a while at the moment! Will not miss the commute into London one bit.

makecakesnotwar · 07/03/2008 09:02

ALways up for a meet up. Latino bambino looks great- was featured in recent pg magazine.

There is a pg yoaga class at St Marks Church in Bromley...they also do post-baby yoga (bring your baby).

I'm now looking for Pilates in pg if anyone knows of a class. My physio has told me to change as have SPD.

Lovely weather we are having!

Right ladies - I think it is time for a meet up - anyone keen??

user1493836784 · 15/08/2017 20:25

Hi I'm 28 weeks pregnant and live in penge/anerley. Starting to panic a bit and thinking about antenatal classes. Looked at NCT but as a lot of people have said it's costly. Any good recommendations to meet new mums close by? Thanks
