Hello!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 23/12/2007 13:45

lol, I've read in loads of places if you're waters break you get free stuff. I wonder what I'd get free from B&Q - apart from my hose obviuosly! lol

Right I really am going to go now. I don't think this is labour but I need to get stuff started or xmas is not going to happen this year.

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 23/12/2007 13:52

I had period type pains last night but they didn't develop so you could do a dash to B+Q now!

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 23/12/2007 13:53

Fingers (and legs) crossed, naturally!

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 23/12/2007 15:00

I've just had the Mw round for a check up. All is fine and the baby is fully engaged! She says she wouldn't be surprised if the baby put in an early appearance - especially as I've been having these pains.

Thought those of you who have been having the pains too might like to know.

Awenamanger · 23/12/2007 15:32

How exciting susie

Lucky - hope you get the hose sorted. Reckon you should look around some really nice garages at cars.. never know what you can get free

Still here. Still in pain and listening to body etc. NO idea if i have hit the magic 3cm yet.. not waning to get checked out as justr want to follow my body.

madChristmasmouse · 23/12/2007 15:54

Susie - mw on Sunday at home? Sounds like VIP service . Fully engaged, wow. Hope your little one listens.

Awen - glad to hear you are putting some trust in your body. Was a bit worried that you felt a failure - am seeing you as a bit of a role model for dealing with what will probably be my own lenghty first labour. Sounds like you are doing great in all the circumstances.

Lucky, did you manage to get a hose?

Did some more nesting in the form of going to M&S buying DH and myself some long overdue new underwear and socks and clearing out the drawers. A whole bag of stuff for the bin and it looks so nice!. The only thing I have been missing about my periods is the urge to clear out occasionally.

ladylush · 23/12/2007 15:57

Hi awen Hope it happens soon for you. A hectic xmas for you this year

Naetha · 23/12/2007 16:31

I wasn't quite that desperate to kickstart labour with the pineapple, I just forgot how sensitive I was to it! I had a couple of slices last night, and my mouth tingled for a couple of hours, but nothing too bad. However the 3/4 of a pineapple this morning was horrendous!! I don't know if it was riper so there was more stuff in it, but my mouth is still very very sore 8 hours later!

I had another false start this afternoon as well - had a nap on the sofa after a very busy morning - had about four or five really strong and painful contractions/BHs. I didn't want to mentally make a big deal of it, so changed position and tried to go back to sleep, and they stopped Really hurt though - guess baby was lying funny and when I BH'd was digging into me more than usual.

Luckysalem - hope your B&Q dash didn't trigger anything too quickly!!

Awen - hope everything's going smoothly. You have more patience than me - I'd be crawling up the walls by now!!

Went out yesterday and bought a roast for Christmas dinner, so this should ensure that I go into labour as soon as the roast is in the oven!

Anyone else getting unreasonably annoyed by overbearing relatives? We're fending off about two phonecalls a day asking how I am (no different, still not sleeping, a little bored, a little pissed off) how the baby is (well I don't know! I guess he's OK, he's still wurbling about in there!) and whether I've had it yet (if I had I probably would have mentioned it in the first 5 minutes of the phone call). We've told everyone that we'll let them know as soon as something happens, but we'd really like some peace and quiet over the next few days. It's getting silly now though - if we don't answer the phone (for example at 9am this morning - FIL) but we do answer it later, we get the 3rd degree - where were you? Should you be doing that at the moment (our usual excuse is a walk, or a trip to B&Q) and we get harangued some more! If it's this bad now, I dread to think how it will be when the LO arrives! Maybe we're just ungrateful and not very family oriented, but I'd love some peace and quiet!

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 23/12/2007 17:13

Well I managed to get to B&Q and then some. BUT i'm paying for it now. Just period pains. What do BH/Contractions actually feel like? I was expecting to feel my belly being pulled in or something but i've just got the period ache so maybe this isn't BH/Labour.

Just about to wrap all the presents as can't hide DP's anymore.

Hope your all ok.
Thanks to those worrying bout me.

awen you have the patience of a saint.

madChristmasmouse · 23/12/2007 18:06

Lucky, I have had B-H all through pregnancy and they used to be uncomfortable but not painful. Now I am nearly 35 weeks they are starting to hurt. Personally I can't see anything when it happens (mw says the top of my bump- the bit I can see is all baby) but my whole bump becomes rock hard and stiff and it makes you want to stop and take some deep breaths to make it go away.

I guess for you the questions are 1) does it hurt and 2) does it come and go at regular intervals.

Naetha - things may be starting for you though. Can you not leave a message on your ansaphone to say you have not popped yet and just not pick up?

Naetha · 23/12/2007 18:18

Nah all petered out again here

Seeing my MW tomorrow though, and I'm going to ask for a stretch and sweep if she'll oblige, or at least a quick peek up me fanjo (excuse the terminology } to see if things are progressing at all.

Lucky - when I get a BH my uterus goes rock hard, and I get a sensation of pressure in my pelvis - it's not painful as such, although I usually get a bit of accompanying backache (period-cramp stylee) but I do find it takes my breath away a bit. I didn't get any at all until I was about 32 weeks gone, but since 37 weeks I have been getting around 20 or so a day, with some days having them constantly every 5-10 minutes.

Mmm sausage and mash for dinner tonight

lilyloo · 23/12/2007 18:44

evening all you all sound very patient hope you have comfortable evening and a nice day tom in preperation for xmas day ! We off to panto tom so not sure when i around again so best wishes for anyone whos little one makes an appearenace and a lovely xmas to you all ll xx

Awenamanger · 23/12/2007 19:43

ladylush - thank you xx Lots of christmas wishes coming your way.

madmouse - I am a bit of a control freak and although i had mentally told myself that what will be will be i feel very frustrated with my body atm. Am feeling a lot calmer now tho, just was very overtired.

Lucky - keep a close eye on things as it can feel like period cramps to begin with.

Had further developments here (i hope) another show, huge one this time. Sorry if tmi but lots of clear jelly and some with a little blood.. couldnt believe how much of it there was as with ds1 only had a little. Hope is a sign that i have dilated further... Still getting contractions although pain relief has helped as has lots of rest. Will see what happens i guess.

Awenamanger · 23/12/2007 19:44

Naetha - how frustrating (i totally understand). It is like you get already mentally and try not to get hopes up but feel so darn dissapointed when it seems to stop. xx

ayrshirelolo · 23/12/2007 20:08

Evening ladies!
Awen, i hope that show means you'll soon be holding wee Samuel!
Lucky, glad you got the hose!! Take it easy though, sounds like you're doing loads! Nesting instinct perhaps??
Naetha be careful with that pineapple!! I love the stuff and eat it to help with heartburn, but that sounds like a lot!! HAve you got a birthing ball? A few bounces probably will help, or failing that apparantly walking up and down stairs can help too? hope it works for you soon, honey!!
Susie that's really exciting!! Fully engaged means there's only one way for baby to go!!
Madmouse sounds like you've been busy, and i imagine Christmas is pretty busy in your house too, don't know where you get the energy!!
liliyloo enjoy the panto!
I've had a better day, spent doing nothing except cooking a big roast beef dinner (dsd goes home tomorrow afternoon so we had slightly more festive food than usual!). Baby still churning about like a washing machine, sometimes really painful! But i'm taking it as a good sign that there's still loads of movement so therefore still time for the baby to work out which way is up! I've been reading up more on ECV, and apparantly only works in about 60% of cases, so here's hoping baby settles head down before we get to that stage!
Got loads to do tomorrow, clean house, change beds ready for mil and fil, make spiced pears in red wine for Christmas day pudding, make stock from turkey giblets (yuck!), and do everything else i can think of up front so Tuesday is easy!! I'll be thinking about you all though, and will take a wee sneaky peak to see who's got how far!! Big waves to everyone else, hope you're all having a lovely peaceful Christmas!
lolo xx

merrykt · 23/12/2007 20:32

evenin' all

awen - that sounds really promising, i had a show with ds, then my waters broke, then contractions started so the other way round to you, but it MUST mean progress right?
keep us updated...

sounds like everyone is busy getting ready for Christmas, we have nothing planned for tomorrow, tho my brother is arriving, but he is the easiest houseguest, requires nothing other than beer in the fridge, tv and a bed! and often doesn't even get the bed as he's bottom of the pile when others turn up

so, dh and i just trying to get on top of little jobs that have piled up, and trying to get things ready for baby - tho dh did warn me today not to 'feel ready' when we've got these things done....
got to make it to new years day!

look forward to more announcements!

madChristmasmouse · 23/12/2007 20:43

Hi Lolo, if baby is moving like a washing machine it may be that he/she is in the process of turning, fingers crossed!!! give baby loads of encouragement. ECV is not always successful but it has no side effects (although it can sometimes bring on labour) and if it works things are so much easier. An acupuncture procedure called moxtibuxtion is apparently also very successful and may be worth a try.

You say I am busy and where do I get the energy (answer - maternity leave and no other children) but can I point out that your list for tomorrow is too long for one day? Take it easy!

Naetha - I hope it will start again soon. I must say all my buddies on here stop-starting is a bit of a reality check and will hopefully keep me patient when I start thinking every twinge is it.

Christmas in our house will be quiet, for the last time! We will drive to the parish where DH will be minister-in-training from June. It is only just over an hour away and it is nice to start building relationships. Then back home and nothing much until a nice roast duck int he evening.

Next year Christmas we will be living in the parish (church is buying us a house) and dh will be taking services and the baby will be almost 11 months. No more quiet Christmasses for us until DH retires, and even so retired priests often still take Christmas services.

By the way, if you feel baby hiccups down your fanny bits does that mean the head is getting down? , mw said Friday head still free, but I have the feeling he is trying to engage.

gingemebells · 23/12/2007 22:01

Evening ladies. Had a lovely day today. Went to a christening this morning and my two lo's behaved beautifuly. Made a mad dash to Asda to get last minute bits then got home just in time for my ex to drop off my big boys. Wow how they have grown

Awenamanger · 24/12/2007 11:19

Am still here Tring to rest loads and not have baby as want ds1 to get his xmas morning and santa pressies.

sabinar · 24/12/2007 11:20

good morning!

just had a very amusing time watching DH test out the TENS machine. It definitely works

feeling just the slightest bit nervous here as I think I may have had a bit of a show last night... it was after a little bit of action with DH though, so I'm not certain that it counts.... what do you think?

pls tell me that either a) it's not really a show or b) a show doesn't necessarily mean that LO is on his way... I'd really quite like him to hang in there for at least a couple of weeks yet!

enormous congratulations to Armani and I hope that others of you who are on the way have babes in arms very soon! (maybe even now!?)

today I am dedicating to finishing off the last bits of work and sending out my invoices, then organising the house - which is doing a good impression of having been hit by a bomb as I've been busy with work and DH is doing what DH's seem to be doing on this thread - being completely lazy (argh!). I'm hoping that in the next couple of days I'll have everything organised that needs doing and then I'll be able to wake up in the morning and not think about all the things I have left to do yet! (There are one or two things that I need DH to do for me though.. that's driving me berko. Am thinking that I will have to outsource to a local handyman or something, which is ridiculous given DH is more than capable... just impossible to motivate at the moment. I think perhaps he's not really come to terms with the fact that the LO is going to be here really soon. I had hopes that the possible show we had last night might jolt him into action, but from what I've seen this morning... it doesn't look good...

happy christmas eve everyone!

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 24/12/2007 12:09

Morning all!

Just popping in to wish everyone a happy Christmas. I hope you all have a wonderful time.

Sabinar - I don't think a show necessarily means the babe is on its way.

What is it with some of our DHs/Ps! Mine is totally dragging his feet too. There are a few jobs which I can't do due to the baby - like assembling the cot - which he just won't do! He says he thinks it's going to make the baby come. Stressingme out s probably more likely to make the baby come!

Anyway. Have a fantastic festive time!

Awenamanger · 24/12/2007 12:14

Sabinar - the rest of the show i had yesterda was +++++ no action preceding tho. Am getting more pains again (stonger) really hoping they stop.

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 24/12/2007 12:18

Afternoon all,

No baby and the period pains have completely gone. Never had a hard uterus (or can't feel it anyway) so maybe i've not had any bh/contractions. Does that mean the baby is miles away? I hope not.

I had a MW check-up at home today she had to bring all the equipment for the home birth so thought she'd do it while she was here. Next one is New Years Eve. She says she can still feel all of head so not engaged yet. ahh well.

I need someone to calm me down as I'm panicking about Homebirth now. (I might start my own thread as well) MW has just been through everything that may go wrong and had to explain shoulder dysplacia (sp?) I knew it was a risk but I didn't realise how much of a risk!! Am I being stupid having a homebirth or is it the same as could happen at hospital? - Sorry to panic.

Want baby to come out now! well maybe on boxing day as want to be able to have a nice xmas day.

sabinar · 24/12/2007 12:33

hi Lucky

according to my two midwives (who I think are excellent and who are very experienced with homebirth) and also my NCT teacher, the shoulders getting stuck is incredibly rare and usually just to do with positioning and not actually getting stuck.

the thing that keeps me calm about having a homebirth and risks is that at a home birth you have your midwife with you, looking after you, he whole time - so things don't happen as a surprise as a rule.

unlike in hospital where you might not be given the same amount of attention so things tend to seem to happen more 'suddenly' - only because they are sometimes noticed later.

the most important thing for you to do is to stay calm and relaxed - so please don't work yourself up into a panic! Visualise your perfect home birth and know that if you do need or want to transfer into hospital, you'll have plenty of time to do so.

Have you tested out your pool yet? I think we're going to get ours up either today or tomorrow - can't wait!
