@Magik01 oh she's too young I agree. Though after the night I've had I'm ever so past caring. Ever fecking hour she was up. Plus she was properly crying which she doesn't usually do. OH was up at 4am because he heard her and is up again now to take her. Though he's got work today.

BertieBotts · 08/09/2021 07:23

Thanks all for the kind thoughts.

Lucy i never saw a health visitor that often when I lived in the UK! Just the check ups although I was invited to go to the clinics. I think I went until 4 months and then stopped bothering as they gave me such unhelpful advice.

Aficionado it seems fine! I found the third pregnancy more taxing in terms of aches and pains but my pelvic floor is absolutely fine, no problems at all.

@BertieBotts I saw mine loads! But she was actually lovely and not a pain in the bottom. Probably helps that I used to go to a baby group at the hospital and the health visitor was always there to weigh etc

wimbler · 08/09/2021 11:04

I saw some comments about driving after c-section. When I called my insurance (aviva) after I had dd they basically told me there was no need to call and to just drive when I felt ready. There were no insurance implications and no need to let them know. It’s as long as you feel you could do an emergency stop. I started driving again at 5 weeks which was long enough cooped up in the house while dh was at work!

Daffodil21 · 08/09/2021 11:19

Those who are/have FF - Elliot is very windy - really loud farts that sound like adults! He generally can get them out but is starting to get more and more uncomfortable. We were giving him Aldi formula but I've just bought the kendamil stuff to try. If it doesn't make a difference does anyone have any other recommendations? Also how long should he be on it before it should make a difference?

BertieBotts · 08/09/2021 12:08

This is not a formula specific recommendation but for any poo/fart related apparent discomfort, it's worth being aware of infant dyschezia. I didn't know about it until my second baby but it's where they're starting to get more aware of their pooing and how to control it, they figure out that they need to push but don't understand that they need to coordinate that with relaxing their bowel (as adults we sync this all unconsciously!) so they do a whole lot of straining and look like they are in pain, but are actually crying out of frustration/effort.

If you think that's happening the best thing is to try soothing/relaxing methods and then just wait it out - they work out how to sync up the two reflexes after a few weeks.

Thanks @BertieBotts

I can't work it out tbh. He's being extras cry-y today. My mum left this morning and my husband says 'he must be missing grandma'. Helpful 🙄

BertieBotts · 08/09/2021 12:51

Sometimes they just have cranky days. It doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong.

@biscuitcat I’m not sure we really did anything. We always have lights out 9 latest, he goes in his pjs and we make a big deal of saying good morning and opening the blinds first thing. At night we always changed nappy first before feeding so he wouldn’t wake up after feeding. We found he’d wake up in the night and we’d immediately prepare his bottle milk, but one time we put his dummy in and he fell back asleep, we left it before he was crying to feed him. We did that each time he woke up, until he rejected the dummy- that’s when he got the bottle. That just pushed back til he slept through to 6. He is on formula since his reflux flared up which might make it easier? I know a friend last year did a sleep routine where she fed her baby more formula than usual to get him to sleep longer so he wouldn’t wake for food, when he fell asleep after the first feed she’d wake him up an hour later to feed again and he slept through…not sure how I feel about that but it worked for them. Wouldn’t be able to do that anyway, we couldn’t over feed cos he’s clear when he wants to stop. I really think it comes down to the baby and we’ve got lucky for now. I know sleep changes and this could all go to pot soon so I’m sleeping as much as I can now!

@Daffodil21 I might look into slimming world, it’s going okay so far but it’s going to take so long, my tummy is so round! Baby was on kendamil when his reflux started, I can’t stand it’s sweet smell anymore cos the smell mixed with acid in his vomit May live with me forever!!! Our baby is windy too, he’s on a mix of aptimil and the anti reflux stuff too- we give him infacol. The first time we gave it to him he did about 100 farts 😂 I was sure he pooped each time but he didn’t, but they came out easily, he still strains sometimes which I think is normal? But if he’s uncomfortable we give him infacol which does seem to help (could be coincidence?)

@RandomCatGenerator the play is pretty basic though, he has black and white toys that dangle off his play gym that he hits and stares at. He has the Lamaze peacock which he stares at and touches. I’ll play with his soft toys at him, tummy time he touches the crunchy stuff on the mat- I bounce on my knees singing songs and all that business. I chatter and sing to him, play music etc I figure that’s play for a 5 week old!

@PurplePansy05 ha that’s so funny they’re so similar!! His welsh twin 😊 I’m still quite numb about an inch above the incision and my core feels way off if I’m honest. I’m going on daily walks and I get back and my lower back is sore which I’m sure is core related. I’m doing hyopressure (is that what it’s called?) exercises but are you doing any exercises specifically for your core? It’s odd, at the top of my stomach you can still see my old ab lines so the muscle is there… it’s just not working 😂 I asked my old PT about exercising and she said not to consider running etc til the new year and just work up to quick walking. When walking gets easier she told me to put weights in the pram and try and do timed miles. By January muscles should be okay to start gentle cardio, my pelvic floor seems unaffected so imagine jogging will be okay eventually but it’s hard because I want to go for it now! My bleeding had basically stopped but I find if I do a longer walk it starts again. How are you getting on with feeding now? Lactation consultant sounded great!

@BertieBotts gosh Bertie that’s awful, I’m so sorry to hear that.

Oh and health visitor, we had a 14 day visit, a phone call in a few weeks to check on my mental health and no drop in centre for us too, we need to book to go in for weighing. Next appointment is in a year.

Inmypjsagain · 08/09/2021 12:57

Sorry I always write such long messages! Must learn to be concise!

When baby is cranky for me I pop him on my shoulder, go for a walk around the flat, the block and our grounds- it distracts him and 9/10 I get a good old burp out of him 20 mins in. He does tend to stop crying when we walk him around though, think he gets distracted by the movement. @Daffodil21

Daffodil21 · 08/09/2021 13:01

DH suggested he might be too warm so I took his onesie off and now he's quiet. He's not even here and he sorted it better 😒 his bottom jaw was going like he was cold not long ago so I didn't even consider he may be too warm (his temp is ok)

Daffodil21 · 08/09/2021 14:04

Sorry for rant! Thanks for al your tips! Peace is restored - he's finally sleeping on my chest having a nice cuddle. Obviously I had to pump first so he didn't get distracted with milk smell! He's not been a cry-y baby unless it's for a reason until now!

Fran919 · 08/09/2021 14:31

@Daffodil21 - I too have a cranky little one today, definitely think it’s the heat. I’ve paced around the house no end and lots of skin to skin today.

I gave DD kendamil but it made her really constipated and was sick almost every feed, like projectile. I’ve swapped to hipp organic and she seems loads better, hardly any sick and if she does it’s just a normal amount and has pooed on clocked though we did use infacol too like @Inmypjsagain the first few days to help so could be coincidence.

Daffodil21 · 08/09/2021 14:39

@Fran919 how long did it take for it to have that effect on her? I've read so many good reviews for it but he was making a bit of a fuss when I gave it to him so I don't know if it's the right choice for him. He was enjoying it while he was drinking but then making a fuss between 🤷‍♀️ Will give it to him for the next feed and see how it goes. I'll have a look at infantol

Inmypjsagain · 08/09/2021 14:50

@Fran919 interesting that happened on kendamil for you, similar with a lady at nct as well. We have a stash of hipp to try as well but we’re doing well with aptimil reflux atm.

That reminds me @biscuitcat because of the reflux we hold baby upright (either hands behind his head or on our raised knees) for half an hour after every feed, so it means he always falls asleep on us for about 25 minutes before we put him in the next to me. Don’t know if that helps with sleep 🤷🏼‍♀️

Fran919 · 08/09/2021 15:28

@Daffodil21 she enjoyed it whilst drinking it but anything from as soon as she finished to an hour after she would bring it all back up. I don’t know whether it was because it’s quite foamy even though we have the anti colic bottles or just a bit too rich for her

@Inmypjsagain, I was gutted to be honest as I wanted to use that one as I don’t have any palm oil myself etc, suppose one good thing of the hipp is they do the ready made bottles for out and about

I was tempted to see about the hipp anti reflux but read about needing medical advice first, not sure if anybody ever does but thought see how we go on the normal for now and touch wood seems ok.

Same with the upright feeding, we do paced feeding too and make sure we take it out every so often if not she’ll guzzle the lot and keep her on us for 30 mins afterwards, drags out the night feeds but does help - better than needing to change the sheets if she’s sick!

lucyrp · 08/09/2021 15:33

DD only poops on average once a day, afyer 4 days without pooping she did 3 in one day but after seeing the midwife today I'm concerned that once isn't enough ?

lucyrp · 08/09/2021 15:34

It's not runny as such either I'd just call it soft ?

Inmypjsagain · 08/09/2021 15:49

@Fran919 ditto, I wanted to use it too but at least we tried, I’m same as you with palm oil and it generally looked good! Reflux one I bought before speaking to a dr because I had 5 day wait for a telephone appointment and I couldn’t have 5 days of continuous vomiting, gp eventually okayed it. It’s basically a thick formula, you could use carobel to thicken up the hipp if needed. Baby is a guzzler too, you take the bottle away and he fidgets and cries! The holding upright is faff, we use a sling in the day if we can. For night time sick, tip I read here is to double your sheets, so waterproof sheet, sheet, waterproof sheet, sheet… if there is sick you just strip it off to deal with in the morning and it’s ready made in the night!

@lucyrp we’ve had cases of proper constipation where the poo was solid but still happened once a day. Some days he poos 6 times, others once and others not at all. Not sure what is normal tbh as it seems pretty erratic. Ours now alternates from runny to soft, I’d put the softness down to the reflux formula though? Did the midwife ask how many dirty nappies you have a day?

lucyrp · 08/09/2021 15:52

@Inmypjsagain well she asked how many dirty nappies we were getting and said " you're having a couple a day yeah?" And I said well just the one really, we've had a day with 3 but every other day is either not at all or just the one. And they're not runny anymore they're more soft but they're the yellow mustard colour that BF babies have

Also just rang the tongue tie specialist that's been recommended by 2/3 people now who's closest to me and she's not available until 20th September so totally feel like having a breakdown 😰 I wanted to see her ASAP but that's another 12 days away until she's back so god knows how long until she can see me 😰 there's a breast feeding specialist I'm in contact with but haven't got endless amounts of money to spend so only wanted to see the one person really 😣

Caz1226 · 08/09/2021 16:00

I’ve had to play around with formula I was on cow and gate but it gave Dougie belly ache so we switched to aptamil and it’s done the trick he is downing his bottles and his wind is much better
He doesn’t poop every day but I’ve read that’s fine
He also loves an over the shoulder wind!
I’m slowly learning what he likes snd dislikes! I’ve also booked on my first set of sensory classes has anyone else done any classes yet? Xx

sarah13xx · 08/09/2021 16:07

We’re using hipp but can’t use the ready made bottles it seems. The time I did he was violently sick when we got home and it was way more yellow than his normal milk. I had warmed it slightly as well but it just doesn’t seem to agree with him. Now I just pre make a bottle for 2 hours if I’m nipping out quickly or put one in with ice packs for 4 hours. Need to try actually making one up on the go I think. Freddie definitely does that confused crying thing when he needs to go. He does it for quite a while before a dirty nappy appears

Inmypjsagain · 08/09/2021 16:53

@lucyrp as long as she’s going, I think it’s okay for them not to go for a few days but if you’re worried can you call to double check? Sorry about the wait with the tongue tie person, everyone seems so backlogged atm!

Interesting how different formulas can have such differing results on babies! We also seem to get more straining for a fart then a poo which seems odd, guess it’s trapped wind

Daffodil21 · 08/09/2021 17:30

@Fran919 ah ok thank you! He hasn't hasn't thrown any up so that's a start I guess. He doesn't tend to throw up though thankfully. It's just the wind issue I think. I have just bought some infancol though so hopefully that will help. Maybe it is normal but I have no idea as I don't have anything to compare it to. It does seem excessive though and he does strain quite a bit.

Daffodil21 · 08/09/2021 17:30

So much poo here. I can't imagine just one every day or two!
