Omg who knew the world of baby wearing coats existed?! I was thinking I’d missed the boat for a jacket with the panel since I’m not pregnant anymore but I’m totally getting one of these for taking the baby carrier out in the winter 😊

PurplePansy05 · 27/09/2021 16:39

@biscuitcat Very good points.

Regarding slings and carriers, both of mine are Ergobaby (Aura & Omni 360). Only recently started using them and so far so good. Omni isn't cheap but is the back & front carrier suitable for children 0-4 years. We won't carry him when he's 4! But I think we'll have good use out of it for the money. I bought mine on sale at Mamas & Papas.

I don't find them easy to use though, the carrier is a two people job for me and still awkward after CS. The sling is much more comfortable but it's quite an art to wrap it well, I'm still doing it with a YT tutorial on 😳 xx

PurplePansy05 · 27/09/2021 16:41

@sarah13xx How did you learn to do up the Omni on your own, do you have a link to a video by any chance? xx

Fran919 · 27/09/2021 16:57

Thanks all, I’ll take a look at those. On quick look @Daffodil21 that one seems to have good reviews.

We’ve been lucky and been bought a back carrier that’s suitable for hiking etc which we’ll use for big walks when LO is older but want something for now on shorter walks.

Quick question but random…when does everybody shower / wash hair etc? Do you wait for DH to take LO or sneak one in whilst LO is sleeping say in cot etc? I currently wait for DH

PurplePansy05 · 27/09/2021 17:00

I wash my hair either in the morning when DH has DS for a bit or in the evenings when DH gives him a bottle top up. xx

Daffodil21 · 27/09/2021 17:05

@Fran919 I can put it on by myself as well which is good.

I've showered once during the day when DH was at work, but now I just wait until the evenings I can enjoy it then and not feel rushed

sarah13xx · 27/09/2021 17:19

@PurplePansy05

Think this is the one she crosses it over rather than uses the buckle across the back, so much easier x

sarah13xx · 27/09/2021 17:20

@Fran919 I used to stress myself out diving in a shower before he got up but now I just wash my hair at night (hardly ever 🙈). I do have a bath every night between about 8 and 9 and it’s my one hour to relax 😅

Ready2020 · 27/09/2021 17:50

Thankfully OH is working from home and can have quiet times during the day so sits with her and his laptop and I jump in the shower. If he were in the office I'd probably shower in evening or try when she's napping.

wimbler · 27/09/2021 18:43

I think you can buy just the panel to extend an existing coat. You just need to make sure the zips are compatible. Obviously it might not match colour or fabric wise but definitely cheaper than buying a new coat. I’ll see if I can find a link!

wimbler · 27/09/2021 18:46

Here we go - not too sure how they work but could be an alternative to a whole new coat!

Question - DD didn't get a proper nap until 4.30. She's still asleep! She usually goes down for the night at 7pm ish Confused should I wake her? I don't want her to think this is her night sleep and then be up all night.

lucyrp · 27/09/2021 19:37

Showering isn't any different to usual for me ...? I just pop her in her little chair in the bathroom with me and she either stays awake and watches me or falls asleep 🤷🏼‍♀️ either that or I put her in her crib to sleep and leave the bedroom door open and shower as id hear her if she cries. Always shower with the bathroom door open

wimbler · 27/09/2021 19:53

@lucyrp this is what I do too, or just shower during nap time and take the monitor into the bathroom with me. Sometimes I put the monitor on to keep an eye on the toddler whilst she’s watching the iPad on our bed too 😂

dirtyfries · 27/09/2021 20:25

We've hit leap 1 today. LO was up for the day at 6am, had a 2 hour nap around 10ish and apart from that has either been crying or on the boob all day.
She's had quick little naps latched on, 10 mins or so here or there but I'm shattered.
Snuck off for a bath earlier and left her screaming with DH. Now I'm hiding out upstairs for another 10 minutes, hoping she's asleep Blush

Even the sling wouldn't soothe get her to sleep today, I paced the garden for over an hour! Ashamedly I was too anxious to go for a proper walk because she's been seriously wailing.

sarah13xx · 27/09/2021 20:56

@Ready2020 when we get to that stage and the timings are all off I just abandon the bed time and he goes down a bit later. The only time of the day I will wake him is 11/11:30pm because he never wakes for a feed at that time but I want him to have a feed then so that he’ll last a while into the night

PurplePansy05 · 27/09/2021 21:38

@dirtyfries Don't worry, I don't go out if he's having a terrible day. It only happened several times though. It's not about what other people think, there's just nothing enjoyable in walking around with a screaming baby IMO (tried that as you can probably guess Grin). Hide away for extra 5 mins! xx

Ready2020 · 28/09/2021 16:57

Has anyone bought a playmat thing yet? I got a second hand one from OHs brother but it's missing bits and is too big for my small lounge. I'd like DD to have something to reach up and grab while lying down. If I order on amazon today I'll get it tomorrow.

OH is going out tonight with pals in Edinburgh so will be away 6.30 to 11pm. I've not done an evening myself yet so I'm hoping we can settle her before he goes.

I've bought a moses basket from gumtree as I think I need something that isn't quite so connected to my bed for DD as I wake her up with my moving about. I'm not sure how I feel yet about using it as I'm used to seeing her when I lay down and she's in the snuz pod. But I'll give it a go. Does anyone else use a basket or something that you need to look down on for night sleep?

RandomCatGenerator · 28/09/2021 18:34

@Ready2020 I have the Tiny Love one that’s well reviewed on ‘mumsnet loves’ - the one with farm animals. He seems to quite enjoy gazing at himself in the hanging mirror and bashing the cow that has a jingly bell attached, so a success I think!

RandomCatGenerator · 28/09/2021 18:35

@dirtyfries I’m sorry that sounds awful :( any luck with a pacifier…? Small beer I realise. I hope your day / night improves x

wimbler · 28/09/2021 18:47

We have a tiny love playmat too. I got it from a friend. It’s the black and white themed one and he seems to like it.

We use a Moses basket for day time and snuz pod for night time but we have the snuz pod away from the bed for that very reason. We both sleep much better with a bit of space between us but I like that if he is a bit unsettled I can just move it up against the bed and zip off the sides.

Having a bit of a down evening. I keep getting a deep regret for being so bloody minded about having a vbac. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so amazed and proud that I actually did it but I’m having some recovery issues; Tears that haven’t healed properly and a prolapse which is really getting me down. I keep thinking why have I chosen to do this to myself. I had nothing of the sort with my csection and I can’t help thinking of the potential long term issues I might have. I know a csection isn’t a get out of jail free card with respect to your pelvic floor but mine has taken such a battering and I’ve only got myself to blame.

Someone tell me it does get better with time and the right exercises! My pelvic floor physio is reassuring but i also can’t afford to keep seeing her!

Smurf123 · 28/09/2021 20:05

Does anyone know the difference between 0-6 months sleeping bag and a 6-12 month bag?
Dd is too long (and it's too cold) for the tommee tippee one I have and the next one I have says 6months

@Ready2020 we have the fisher price safari one

BertieBotts · 28/09/2021 20:43

The head openings are different sizes. If you use one that's too big it can be a suffocation hazard. Our 0-6 month ones are crazy long, like double his body length almost? Maybe you have an extra short one for some reason.

@wimbler do you have a bit of trauma from the birth perhaps? I did with my second birth and kept attaching and having fixated thoughts on certain parts of it that weren't necessarily the issue, it was just something I kind of latched onto if that makes sense. It took me a really long time to be able to talk about it and process it but once I did process it, it was much better and I don't feel so upset or angry at the experience now. I also if I do have moments of negative feelings feel that other people let me down rather than that I did something wrong, which is more helpful. Probably not helpful to those people :o but I'll probably never see them again anyway.

@BertieBotts I think it might be a grosnug 0-3 months we have.. I'm not sure it was bought for ds a few years ago but designed for newborns from 5lbs so it was maybe a preemie one. My mum had bought it when ds was in nicu. But it's also got cold here and it is only a 0.5 tog so dd is getting cold and I end up adding a blanket over the top which defeats the point really.

I've tried the 6 months on her this evening and I don't think she would be able to get her arms out of the arm holes. But then maybe I should just buy a new one for 0-6 months so I don't worry about whether it's too big or not 🙈

BertieBotts · 28/09/2021 21:05

0-6 month ones are pretty big, I think you'll get use out of it. We have a grobag, a Pride and rebellion that came from TK Maxx und an Aldi one in this size and all have plenty of room. They are definitely bag type rather than swaddles though.
