Oh @lucyrp are you okay? Did the MW suggest anything at all? Have you tried combo feeding if your comfortable with that? Sending hugs. Flowers

lucyrp · 05/09/2021 17:52

@Magik01 I've seen 5 different midwives now and a health visitor. All have said different things in regards to a possible tongue tie- some have said there isn't one, others have said there is and others have said there is a small one but it wouldn't make a difference. She's been feeding the usual amount that a breast fed baby should feed and she's happy and content and pink and alert and they're jot worried about her as such it's just the weight. I've been told to express and top up with expressed milk after each breast feed but I can't pump much extra now so going to have to do formula. X

Ready2020 · 05/09/2021 18:12

So tomorrow's the first day of OH being back at work. I really want to try get myself into a routine of sorts but I just know it'll be most of the day on the sofa in pj's!

I'm a bit annoyed with myself as at lunch today my mum insisted we sit with some friends of hers and I had to feed Rowan. I didn't want to expose myself too much so I just let her latch on however and I'm paying for it with sore nipples now Sad I usually need a bit of time to latch her on with cross cradle position but I just let her grab on.

Has anyone used a sleepyhead or equivalent? I've heard they can be not safe... but they might help DD settle in the snuz pod.

RandomCatGenerator · 05/09/2021 18:17

@lucyrp can you go private and pay for a consultation with a tongue tie specialist? A friend did this after a nightmare BF journey and they identified a tongue tie busy midwives and HVs had missed. Once snippet the baby was able to feed well almost immediately and it made a huge difference to the mum’s happiness - although it is SO frustrating that she had to pay to go private to get this result.

@Ready2020 We use a Sleepyhead during the day. It’s amazing - Solomon sleeps really well in it. But they aren’t recommended for unsupervised sleep - they aren’t breathable enough and so have been linked to fatalities when used unsupervised. But during the day, supervised - amazing.

RandomCatGenerator · 05/09/2021 18:17

He sleeps better in it than I think the Snuzpod…not sure if that’s just because he still doesn’t know day from night.

Ready2020 · 05/09/2021 18:22

@RandomCatGenerator ah its night time I need to crack!

Daffodil21 · 05/09/2021 18:22

Sorry to hear that @lucyrp - how old is she now?

@Ready2020 when DH went back to work I actually planned to spend the day on the sofa in my pjs! A couple of times since I've spent the morning in bed on off napping around his feeds for a little recharge. I always feel so much better after it!

lucyrp · 05/09/2021 18:32

@RandomCatGenerator that's what I'm thinking of doing but there aren't any local to me we'd have to travel 2 hours ish to any of them so trying to figure out which one would be best to go to. Yeah the HV said I could be referred but by the time she'd filled out the paper work etc I probably could have been seen and sorted privately which is so annoying. Nhs waitlist is around 6-8 weeks at the moment. X

@Daffodil21 she's 12 days today x

wimbler · 05/09/2021 18:36

@Ready2020 we used a sleepyhead in the snuz pod over night with dd….they were stated as suitable for overnight sleep. This was 2018-2019 but the advice has changed. I saw no problem with it at the time and neither did most of my other mum friends who did the same. I’ve yet to meet a mother who has followed every bit of official advice 100% religiously but that’s for you to assess whether it’s right for you. We haven’t used it in the same way this time around mainly because ds sleeps well in the snuz pod and he’s a big boy so it wouldn’t last very long at all

BertieBotts · 05/09/2021 19:11

We use a folded duvet in the carrycot which is a little bit wider than it, so folds up at each side ending up in the same sort of shape as a sleepyhead, I happily use it in the day but would be a bit too paranoid at night as it's very soft, it does settle him much better than the hard carrycot mattress does though!

Bad picture because it's only folded up at one side, and too high on the other, but this is what it looks like.

I'm st a complete loss as to what is up with DD tonight. I got the signs she was hungry but she's had plenty and is not really bothered to take more. I thought she was a bit too warm so swapped her long leg and arm suit to a short sleeve vest under her sleep bag and opened the window. She cries when being held but is very fussy when laid down, half crying, half making other noises. She's been winded loads. No clue what else to do with her.

Millymay13 · 06/09/2021 02:00

@Ready2020 It’s so hard when you don’t know what’s wrong. If I’ve tried everything and can’t find anything wrong I usually end up sitting in the glider chair with DS and my little usb fan blowing in our rough direction. I’m not sure if he likes the motion, the white noise of the fan, or just that I am comfy and therefore more relaxed but that usually gets him off to sleep.
I think sometimes they don’t know what’s wrong themselves and kind of get stuck in a cycle of being unsettled even if the original issue is resolved. Whatever it is I hope she settles soon for you to be able to get some rest x

Ready2020 · 06/09/2021 02:03

@Millymay13 it's so hard isn't it. I'm not a natural at this at all. I've no clue if she's too hot or cold as I feel it's too warm but she might be OK like that. She settled with me walking her and swaying her a bit and is now in the snuzpod! Doubt it will last though.

lucyrp · 06/09/2021 02:09

DD has just had both boobs and spent 45 minutes on them between the both and then guzzled 50ml of formula. We now have hiccups so waiting for these to stop before I can get her off to sleep😓

Millymay13 · 06/09/2021 02:16

@Ready2020 I have no idea about temperature or not! When I asked the health visitor she just said to touch him on his chest and back if his neck to find out if he’s too hot or cold, but I don’t know what either of those is meant to feel like! He’s currently in nappy and long sleeves/legged babygro in his Moses basket and no blanket. We’ve got our fan blowing in the other side of the room trying waft some cooler air into the room because it is warmer tonight than previous nights. Who knows if that’s ‘right’, but DS isn’t complaining so I’m going with it!
@lucyrp likewise trying to settle hiccups at the moment! I’d fed DS and had out him down in his Moses basket then the hiccups started and he was getting unsettled so I’be now got him in my arms/on my lap hoping they’ll go and he drops off to sleep soon x

PurplePansy05 · 06/09/2021 06:53

I gave up on settling his hiccups in the first week, he's such a hiccupy baby. It's getting better now at nearly 5 weeks. I think when he needs to get it out, ge needs to get it out. HV said it will stop naturally and not to worry, but it is hard to watch his little chest working so strenuous.

@Ready2020 what is a natural, though? I hear it all the time in the context of motherhood in particular. The reality is we all have the same instincts cause it's nature and with regard to the other stuff some of us are more attentive/creative in some areas and some in others. That's why we share things and tips with each other. I'd love to know what goes through my DS's head 90% of the time and certainly when he just won't sleep after I've ticked everything off my mental list like you, alas I have no idea. Every day I do guesswork, and to be honest, DH is better at settling him down if it's not the boob anyway. I sometimes learn from him or pass on the baby 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'd pay good money to spend a day inside baby's brain, wouldn't that be helpful to us mums! xx

Magik01 · 06/09/2021 07:24

Mums with more than one child- how are you coping with the lack of sleep and looking after two (or more) children during the day? I think I probably managed just over an hour sleep last night between midnight and now; and all I can think is I just can’t do today. I dread it, there is no break when baby sleeps and it will just get worse as the week goes on. Any tips welcome.

Ready2020 · 06/09/2021 09:35

@Magik01 no advice but hugs to you and wishing you a peaceful day.

Daffodil21 · 06/09/2021 09:42

@Ready2020 nothing natural here either - totally winging it! Don't worry xxx

Smurf123 · 06/09/2021 10:06

@Magik01 In all honesty (and it's not reflux what I want but needs must) iPad time for ds - I have downloaded some apps I can tell myself are educational.
What age is your older one?
We try and get out every day to the garden too, yesterday I dyed some rice and ds sat and played in a tray of coloured rice and dinosaurs. We made red and green rice so it was grass and lava and he made a volcano. It kept him busy for about 30 mins and then he returned to it off and on during the day.
I do feel really guilty I'm not giving ds as much attention as I would like but it's just hard at this stage esp on days like yesterday where Sophia fed all day or at least it felt like that

Ready2020 · 06/09/2021 12:28

For all my moaning last night DD eventually slept OK in the snuz pod. I had put my cardigan in before hand so it smelled like me and also zipped up the side so it's more snug. She still did some of her flailing about but apparently OH came in at 6.30 to take her but we were both fast asleep. I also put a towel under the mattress to make a slight incline so it's not totally flat.

Maybe a fluk but I'll try it again tonight and see if she settles again.

First morning myself ish and recognising is hard to get things done by yourself!

BertieBotts · 06/09/2021 12:28

DS2 is at nursery and I've got DH here full time, so no magic tips I'm afraid.

I've just had my covid vaccine, what a relief! It didn't even hurt which I'm very glad about.

@Smurf123 he’s three next month. We have brought him one of them fire kids tablets so I will downloads some stuff on that once he has it. I feel so guilty just having the TV on all day but I’m really struggling with the lack of sleep at the moment.

Hoping once Isaac is not as mycusy sleeping might get a little better? 😱

Magik01 · 06/09/2021 12:33

@Smurf123 if your LO is of a similar age, which apps have you downloaded? Would you rate them?

BertieBotts · 06/09/2021 12:56

The was a good thread running over lockdown called trapped toddler parents that had some newborn and toddler combos. Maybe look and see if they are still going?
