@Daffodil21 MAFS Aus is so over the top, isn't it! It's so trashy it's hilarious Grin I don't find the latest UK edition as good, it looks like some of them were trying to replicate the Australian version and it's more glaringly fake IMO. Slightly disappointing! On a good show note, I love This Is Us on Amazon Prime, currently on season 3 (bit late to the party with this one!). Great show though.

So I'm out on my own. Glorious day here and I should be enjoying the peace and quiet but all I can see is mums with buggies and I'm upset DS is not here enjoying with me 😭 Mum guilt level 100. It's a real thing. But then he has his perfectly capable daddy who can see it's a nice day and he could take him out since it's his day off. Even better, he could do more to make sure we all can go out and enjoy together. So maybe I should just get over the guilt! xx

lucyrp · 20/09/2021 12:25

I don't really have any choice with the smoking aspect as OHs mum, dad and grandparents all smoke so it would mean they never got to hold DD🥴

Has anyone else seen all the videos of people fitting since having their Pfizer jab?🥴 and 3 of my friends cycles have all gone to pot since having it. Nhs we're supposed to ring me end of august beginning of September to book me an appointment for my jab but I haven't heard anything so thinking of just going to a drop in clinic

I've allowed my mum and OHs mum to feed DD via a bottle🥴

@PurplePansy05 yep! 2 DCs DS is 6 and in school! Xx

lucyrp · 20/09/2021 12:26

Has anyone's LO had to go for a scan for their hips ?

Daffodil21 · 20/09/2021 12:31

@PurplePansy05 STOP WITH THE MUM GUILT! You're allowed to go out and enjoy the sunshine alone. Dad and baby will be fine, and it might be nice for them to spend some time alone as I guess we get lots of that but they don't. So don't beat yourself up at all! Is there a cafe you can go and have a cheeky coffee in while you're out? 😀 my drink out on Saturday night didn't happen but I think it's happening this weekend. My friend wants to try the pub next to my house as she's never tried it, so I'm going to make sure I'm facing away from my house 😂

My DH is rubbish with emotional support type things but he has actually really surprised me since DS came along. I knew he wanted a child but I was so fixated on how much I wanted a child that I don't think I realised how much he did. Plus I think he probably just closed off a bit when he realised it may not happen. I keep saying to DS he's turned daddy into a human being 😂😂🥰

@lucyrp no I've not seen those. If it helps to reassure you at all I had the Pfizer while pregnant and only got a sore arm x

PurplePansy05 · 20/09/2021 12:34

@lucyrp My DS does, yes. Even though his hips are fine, they've arranged it because he was breech until 37+ weeks (not sure exactly when he turned himself around). Not actually sure if this is just NHS Wales either, my friends in England didn't have them even though their LOs were breech for a while too.

How are you finding life with one DC in school and a newborn? xx

lucyrp · 20/09/2021 12:37

@PurplePansy05 yes my friends little girl was breech up until the end so she had to get sent for one too but everything was fine. We've got to go on Thursday because DD had a slightly clicky hip when they did the newborn checks but hoping it's nothing 🥺 it's really nice to have the time during the day with just DD although she does just tend to sleep most of the time still so😂 it does make for a short day and quite busy what with the school runs etc especially as DS school is about 20 minutes away. Xx

Magik01 · 20/09/2021 14:29

@lucyrp yes DS had a hospital appointment a few weeks ago as when he was born his feet/legs turned it. A common thing towards the end of pregnancy when babies are squashed- DS1 had it too. They checked his legs and did an ultrasound on his hips and leg sockets if that’s the appointment you mean? It’s a really quick appointment if it is, I wouldn’t worry too much.

@PurplePansy05 don’t feel guilty getting out the house on your own!! You might be a mum but your still you as well, and you have as much right to get out the house for a bit on your own than anyone else. Fresh air will do you good, if there’s a shop or cafe go get yourself a coffee and some food. DH will be absolutely fine for a bit. Maybe he will find out what it’s like not being able to put baby down and eat as well! 😂

Magik01 · 20/09/2021 14:30

On another note, has anyone’s baby developed cradle cap? I thought he wasn’t going to get it but it’s suddenly appeared. Slightly harder to put oil etc on to soften it as he’s got tons of hair as well!

lucyrp · 20/09/2021 14:31

@Magik01 I think ours is an X-ray but it's to check that the ball joints for the legs are in the sockets. OH has taken the day off to come with me as the hospital is an hour away but now wondering if they'll even let him in🙄🥺x

Magik01 · 20/09/2021 14:37

@lucyrp yes that what they checked at our appointment. I don’t think it will be an X-ray at this stage as apparently the person who did our appointment said their hips aren’t bone yet, they are cartridge so they do an ultrasound instead. Isaac slept through the whole thing 😂

BertieBotts · 20/09/2021 17:31

I think A is getting cradle cap now, his head is starting to smell musty. I always find it's best to put nothing on it and let it flake off by itself. Dentinix shampoo is good too. Sometimes I'll gently scrape some of the dead skin off but be careful not to pick anything that causes bleeding.

I have seen some of those fitting videos and they are scary but there is no real evidence they are linked to the jab, I find you need to be careful about these things on social media, just like some of the newspapers are hell bent on reporting the most alarming things ever, some of the antivax groups are very into sharing scary things that are actually only tenuously linked or a very, very small chance of happening.

Remember that fits can happen in response to a high fever as well which can be caused by any virus or vaccination. Scary, but not necessarily dangerous. I believe the vaccine is safe, I've had one, my 12yo has had one, DH has had 2. I know more people with lasting effects from covid than from the jab. As with any medication or procedure, there will always be risks but I see no evidence that the health organisations are trying to cover up the risks, it's just they are recommending that for most people the benefits outweigh them.

Well said @BertieBotts

wimbler · 20/09/2021 18:21

@lucyrp dd had one as she was breech. It was an ultrasound scan that was pretty quick and painless. She didn’t like it but settled v quickly. She’s also had an X-ray on her head which was quite traumatic as I had to pin her down and the tech wasn’t terribly understanding that getting a 6 month old to stay still really is quite difficult 🙄

wimbler · 20/09/2021 18:25

@Magik01 we’ve got cradle cap starting here as well. Keep meaning to buy dentinox shampoo actually. Dd has it too still and she’s nearly 3. Ds’s is mostly hidden as he has SO much hair but I hate it!

He’s 8 weeks today. When I said to dh he’s growing out of clothes so quickly he said “yeah and because we probably won’t have any more he’s the smallest any of our children will now ever be” can’t believer how quickly time is going!

BertieBotts · 20/09/2021 19:39

OMG wimbler he can't say that! :o 😭

Girls I need quick advice please! DS has hurt my right nipple (he must have latched on awkwardly this PM). It really hurts atm and I can't see myself feeding him. Should I just feed from my left breast and leave the right one to rest, or express from my right one using a pump? Or shall I power through the pain and feed from my right breast too?

Really don't know what's best, don't want to cause more damage. He's screaming his head off and been a terror today 😭 xx

sarah13xx · 20/09/2021 21:11

@PurplePansy05 ouch im wincing at the thought. Hope you manage to get something sorted out, I’m of no use to you

@Magik01 he has cradle cap too but it just seems to be on his eyebrows and his scalp is just dry flaky skin. He has a brush for his hair (that’s almost like an adults dry body brush) and I’d left it for ages but I brushed it with that today before a bath then rinsed it and put some my little coco balm on it and it looks a lot better. Will need to get some of that shampoo

afictionado · 20/09/2021 21:21

@PurplePansy05 give that breast a break for one feed and then when you start again make sure you're getting a really optimal latch. I find the discomfort soon goes away, often it's just for the first little bit and then improves. This happens to me a lot as I get lazy at night and get some terrible latches which I regret in the morning. 😅 Hope it improves for you soon!

sarah13xx · 20/09/2021 21:21

Booked onto a baby massage class for our first class 😊 Was quite put off going to a lot of them because it wasn’t a block with new people and was just a rolling thing you could join at anytime so I was bit worried about going myself 🙈 This is just a tiny group so I feel like it will be far easier to talk to people at it then I’ll ease myself into going to the sensory class. A few girls I know have had babies just in the last week or two so I will maybe go to a class with them but waiting to see when they’ll be ready to join one in a month or two. How’s everyone else getting on with classes they’ve tried?

BertieBotts · 20/09/2021 21:42

Put loads of lansinoh on it but you'll probably find once he's actually latched on he's not bothering the hurt bit. In my experience pumping is more painful than feeding from a damaged nipple, as long as he normally latches fine.

Don't leave it to rest as you'll probably get a blocked duct.

Ready2020 · 20/09/2021 21:43

@Magik01 my DD has had cradle cap for about 2 weeks and is clearing up now with nothing but water baths. No shampoo was needed. It's super stinky isn't it.

I've got cat mum guilt today as we've decided to put our cat milo with my mum for a few months as we've had enough of him. We'll get him back once DD moves to her own room and doesn't need to sleep in the lounge with us at night. My mum has another very old cat though so I hope they get on. It's only a trial basis just now so we'll see.

BertieBotts · 20/09/2021 21:43

If you have a nipple shield you could put that on maybe?

OP posts:
Ready2020 · 20/09/2021 21:45

Oh and meant to ask breastfeeding ladies, I've got a real issue of DD dribbling milk out her mouth a lot when feeding. I'm sick of my bras getting soaked. I think it's over supply but no clue how to fix it if I even can. Anyone else got this issue?

PurplePansy05 · 20/09/2021 21:52

Thanks @afictionado! I'm feeding with my left breast now and put Haakaa on the other only because it was leaking everywhere 🙈 Luckily Haakaa doesn't make the pain worse for me. O hope it goes away soon.

@sarah13xx Baby massage sounds lovely! The classes we do are sensory. If I'm completely honest, I don't love them. I tried, but it's not my cup of tea. The group I've got includes older babies, even though it says it's from newborn. This in itself isn't a problem that affects DS, I still think the classes are good for him, even though he obviously doesn't actively participate all the time. He engages for about a third of the class and enjoys himself, the rest is some feeding or a little nap. However, babies also take in around 60% of what's happening around them whilst asleep. It's also lovely to see his progress, for example today he was engaged for a lot longer and very alert. His concentration improves every day and today I could really see how much it's changed. Another good thing is that it gives me some ideas in respect of how to stimulate him and assist his development at home - and they aren't difficult or expensive. So a lot of positives.

However, socially, most of the mums have already met before because they have older babies. So they'd sit in groups of two and it's not easy to break into it. The fact that their babies are older doesn't make it easier, there's not actually thar much in common between us if that makes sense? Everyone is also busy with their babies, so not much time to break the ice. I made two new friends which is nice, but of course we only talk about babies.

I think I'm just not all gooey like some other mums (no offence to anyone on here!). DH is a lot more like that, he came to one and loved it, whereas all those cute songs and entertainment don't come to me naturally at all. I'm the kind of mum that would build Lego and play dinosaurs with DS, chase around, do something...interesting? In my mind? I'm probably not explaining this very well, but it's just not my vibe. I'll look into booking a different type of class after Christmas and probably swimming then, too. xx

PurplePansy05 · 20/09/2021 21:57

@Ready2020 I do. Try sitting back a bit, it should slow down the flow.

@BertieBotts Thanks Bertie, I put on lots of Lansinoh & attached the Haakaa, I got 40ml in it, so hopefully there'll be no blockage.

@lucyrp Sorry lovely, I didn't ignore your response re age gap, I just didn't have a chance to think more. In terms of your day, do you take DS to any extracurricular activities at all? I'm just trying to imagine how much juggling & logistics is involved if you have two children with a 4 or 4+ years age gap xx
