I weigh 10kg less than my pre-pregnant weight - because pregnancy made me reassess my diet and make healthier choices. Not drinking and not going out to eat (because it’s no fun when you’re nauseous) and going for walks in the evening rather than going to the pub, made a big difference. Also I was really overweight for my frame beforehand. So I’ve gone from 87kg last November to 77kg now. I was 86kg before I went into theatre, 82kg after birth, and 77kg 5 days later.

I am very pleased - it makes me feel good about myself, superficially, when I’m feeling crap about everything else. Great ambitions to keep it off but have got through a packet of chocolate hobnobs in the last week…oops.

RandomCatGenerator · 13/09/2021 18:33

Colic has really hit over the last few days :) it is so awful seeing Solomon in pain and not be able to do anything about it.

I recommend Colimex drops - they seem to do the trick for several hours. Using them sparingly.

sarah13xx · 13/09/2021 18:41

@RandomCatGenerator wow! Sounds like pregnancy has done you good 👏🏼👏🏼

PurplePansy05 · 13/09/2021 18:42

I've put on 1.5st and I think I am roughly back to where I was, maybe half a stone left, but I've not weighed myself post partum, just judging based on how mu clothes fit. Definitely need to exercise my abs and core though, starting as soon as I fight off this infection. I'm not convinced these antibiotics are as effective as my earlier lot, but we'll see.

@Inmypjsagain I'd be a bit careful if your bleeding still picks up now. It should be dosapearing now, mine was gone at 4 weeks pp and hasn't returned. However, my longest walk was around 1.5 hrs.

Tommee Tippee 0-6 dummies work best for us. A life saver when DS just cries for the sake of it. He won't always have a dummy, I've noticed if he wants a feed, he's learnt to spit it out and cry, which is great as I know he's not missing feeds. Otherwise if he needs a bit of soothing, he'll have it for short periods of time. I actually don't use dummies at night because he falls asleep by himself.

Interesting you said you're weaker after the birth, I am exactly the same and was going to ask on here if this is normal. The other day I walked up and down the hill for around 20 mins and I was so exhausted that I felt like I needed a nap to recover. Is this normal after the birth or specifically after CS? Is it because we're more tired because I'm looking after the baby? Or BF related? I'm confused.

I can walk for a lot longer if it's flat, but still I definitely couldn't do as much as before the birth. Will this improve? xx

BertieBotts · 13/09/2021 18:43

I don't think I've weighed myself yet but this has just reminded me they weighed Alex in hospital and he's 4300g now! So he's put on 900g in two weeks which is loads!

Forgot to say about the noises - we get this too when he lies flat and I know he's fine but I can't help picking him up or rolling him to the side, it sounds awful. He is also prone to do these big gasping dramatic shrieks like he can't get air Confused it's horrible!

lucyrp · 13/09/2021 18:43

@RandomCatGenerator in the last week ?! I probably would manage that in a day if not two 🤣🤣

@Inmypjsagain im not really sure I've been eating worse than when I was pregnant 🙈😂

lucyrp · 13/09/2021 18:45

We use the mam dummies 0-2 month ones as they're much smaller and don't look like they're swamping their faces as much!

@PurplePansy05 I feel much weaker too and I had a natural birth. I definitely don't feel as fit either which is hard. When we go out for a walk I'm very slow 🥺

sarah13xx · 13/09/2021 18:50

@Inmypjsagain yeah I’m the same, just don’t want to do it too soon!

My bleeding stopped at 2 weeks and I naively thought that was it done 😂 it came back and isnt really like blood anymore (5 weeks) but I still wear a pad anyway. My health visitor said my period could happen anytime too, had totally forgot about that!

I bought dummies and hadn’t really thought about it but then when he was born he was relatively easy and every baby I saw who was born around the same time as him was being posted on Facebook with this big dummy in their mouth and I thought I don’t think he needs it but I couldn’t work out what their baby must be doing for them to have used it within the first couple of days (screaming I’d presume)! I kept an open mind that I might use it and have been tempted during some of the scream-fests before bed but I haven’t yet and don’t think I’ll give in now I’ve got this far 😂 My hairdresser said she used one but it ended up meaning she was up every hour to put the dummy back in during the night and this went on til she was 1 so that put me off. Another friend said she used it but then took it away because this was starting to happen so I just think if he isn’t too bad I’m going to try to resist to save that battle further down the line

sarah13xx · 13/09/2021 18:54

Yeah HOW @lucyrp ? I’m doing whatever you’ve been doing 😂

@wimbler that’s really good! It’s crazy what our bodies can do and then go back to some resemblance of what they were before, it’s totally baffled me since it’s my first!

Daffodil21 · 13/09/2021 18:54

I've just opened up the tommee tippee machine and it is filthy. I feel so so bad we've been feeding him from this!!

This is the water pipe!

Daffodil21 · 13/09/2021 18:55

(Excuse my husband's grubby nails 😳)

Daffodil21 · 13/09/2021 18:56

@PurplePansy05 maybe it's because if your infection? I had my section on 9th and I can walk over an hour now, and it's very hilly around here

PurplePansy05 · 13/09/2021 18:57

Gosh my grammar and spelling are atrocious, I'm tired today 🤦🏼‍♀️

@wimbler thank you for sharing. It makes perfect sense. I wanted to have a vaginal birth for a long time, but eventually with GD and my post-loss anxiety a CS was 100% the right choice. I do have this niggling feeling that I would like to know what it feels like to have a vaginal birth though. This might never happen for me and I think I can live with this, but I am curious. It is so true that you can never predict how things will go and often a vaginal birth doesn't go to plan and the recovery is much harder than after an ELCS. I still think my recovery has been great, despite the annoying infections and feeling weaker. These things haven't had a major impact in a grand scheme of things, whereas my NCT friends who had vaginal births are still struggling a lot more than me. It's so unpredictable which makes any choice very difficult. I am glad you got to try both like you wanted, however I get it's a bit bittersweet and complicated now if your recovery isn't easy. xx

PurplePansy05 · 13/09/2021 19:02

@Daffodil21 Maybe, I really don't know. But it sounds like there are more of us feeling similar. Maybe it will take more time. You seem to have had a pretty seamless recovery though, that's amazing.

I have no idea about bottle prep machines and I didn't know they existed Blush had to google after your earlier posts. I saw the TT machine online , have you seen the comments on their website that say exactly the same thing as you've just posted? xx

lucyrp · 13/09/2021 19:03

@Daffodil21 they do advise you take the back off and check the pipes x

BertieBotts · 13/09/2021 19:09

I've read on here it takes around a year for your body to recover from birth and I don't think that's far wrong. If you can you should get your iron levels checked though because it's common to be anaemic after birth and I noticed I was feeling lightheaded and realised I haven't been taking my iron pills.

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 13/09/2021 19:12

Oh no about the pipes! I read if you use non official filters it causes that, could that be it?

biscuitcat · 13/09/2021 19:16

@wimbler @PurplePansy05 really interesting about VBAC/elective section for a second. I've thought about it and if DH and I have more, my current plan would definitely be an elective section. I think influenced by the fact that my birth up until the emergency section was fairly horrible and hugely drawn out and I really don't want to go through that again. DH also found it really hard seeing me in pain before the epidural, so although of course my wishes would take priority I think he'd prefer an elective section too!

Daffodil21 · 13/09/2021 19:25

@PurplePansy05 I have, I've been very lucky.

@lucyrp do they? 🙈

I can't believe we've been using this for 5 weeks 🙈 but it does explain a lot. I couldn't work it out but we think he's ok at night because he has what he has straight away and then he goes back to sleep and doesn't have anymore from the same bottle again later like he does sometimes in the day.

Lesson learned. Do more research!!!!

Daffodil21 · 13/09/2021 19:26

I also have no desire to find out what a natural birth is like. Hats to all of you who did it! ELCS all the way for me next time, but I have been incredibly lucky with recovery.

Daffodil21 · 13/09/2021 19:26

@BertieBotts we've been using the official ones, but we did buy it off Facebook so we have no way of knowing what they put in it. They did give us a spare genuine one but I don't know if they always used genuine

lucyrp · 13/09/2021 19:30

Natural births can be lovely 🙈 I said straight after I had DD that I would do it all again at the tip of a hat. 6 hours in labour, no tears or cuts only gas and air and a lovely soak in the pool🥰

BertieBotts · 13/09/2021 19:33

No, sorry. I've had three natural births now and while both the first and last were manageable it's never an experience I would choose to have :o Just pain and exhaustion all the way through. The drugs and water and stuff were just me trying to cope TBH!

OP posts:
Fran919 · 13/09/2021 19:35

@Inmypjsagain I think it was around £150 for three sessions but not sure how many sessions are recommended

@sarah13xx I put on 19lbs, lost 10 straight away and now about 7lbs heavier than pre pregnancy but my body composition has changed and I don’t fit into my size 8 jeans yet. Can’t wait till I can start exercising but struggle with pain to walk for more than 30/40 mins at the moment.

@Daffodil21 ohh my goodness! That’s awful, I’ll be checking mine. Are you in a hard water area? To be honest we use already filtered water just because we have a reverse osmosis fitted and that’s all we use but wow!

Ready2020 · 13/09/2021 19:36

I was in the camp of wanting to know what a vag birth was like, plus its my only chance to try it as we're only having 1. But 5 weeks later I'm still sore plus dealing with tears that didn't heal. Also still have low iron levels. Was it worth it. I guess. Now I know what it's like to give birth. As I reached my due date I did wish I was having a c section though but felt like I'd look weak if I asked Hmm
