Hmm not sure what to do. DD is sound asleep in the bassinet but needs to be in the snuz pod for the night. She only went down at 11pm so could be asleep until 3pm! I really want to go to sleep. Trying to decide if it's worth moving her.OH is doing night shift but I te to move her after feeds.

BertieBotts · 12/09/2021 03:00

We have an infestation of mosquitoes here this year. I've had to move us to the front room to escape them but I can't sleep any better here. First I was just listening to DH snoring through the walls Hmm and then I can't hear A breathing so I poked him and woke him up FFS. Although then he did loads of farts and a poo so perhaps he would have woken up anyway.

@Ready2020 I’m always so paranoid to fall asleep when we’ve brought him up in the moses basket in case I wake up and he’s against the side suffocating, highly unlikely though but I need to check he can breathe every 2 minutes 🙄😂 so if I’m awake I’ll just risk him waking and transfer him over quickly

afictionado · 12/09/2021 03:22

The last 6 hours have been a nightmare, the only time DS2 has settled has been when he's actively feeding, otherwise he wakes up and grizzles. As soon as he starts falling asleep he does a poo and wakes himself up. I feel like I've changed 100 nappies in the last few hours. 😭 He seems to have finally settled now so hopefully he'll stay asleep for a longer stretch. Of course he'll probably wake up as soon as I put him down.

PurplePansy05 · 12/09/2021 04:57

Well I've been awake with DS since 3, he's a hungry boy! BF for well over an hour, got his nappy changed and currently he's asleep on my chest, keeping him upright after the long feed.

Question about refluxy babies, do they tend to make grunting noises and bicycle legs (themselves, no support from us) to move the milk through? It's the noises that worry me a bit, I am not sure if he's just doing this to alleviate his reflux or if he has milk stuck in his airways/lungs somewhere and is about to projectile vomit? I'm worried he might choke.

Anyway, he's been upright and very peaceful for half an hour now so will put him down safely. Was just wondering if this is normal. xx

sarah13xx · 12/09/2021 06:11

@PurplePansy05 I don’t know if they’re able to do that by themselves on purpose?! They hold their knees in if they’re in pain though or somethings annoying them I think.

I did bicycle legs to Freddie and took my two hands and put them over his lower belly, lightly pushed down and did a kind of round and round motion. I’d seen it on a YouTube video to get the milk moving and stop painful gas. Before that I’d tried massaging his abdomen clockwise to help him but I think I was too light. Didn’t think the other way would actually work but he hadn’t had a dirty nappy in over 24 hours. Low and behold it worked and he had a dirty nappy within about 10 minutes! 😯

Ready2020 · 12/09/2021 08:36

Oh I'm so pissed off just now. I'm crying with being so annoyed and tired. I ended getting to bed at 3am. I left DD to wake up naturally and in the transfer process to the bedroom she woke up so I suggested I feed her again to get her off to sleep for OH doing the night shift.

Usually we give the sleeping person 6 hours minimum sleep if not more if we can.

Darren woke me at 8am! That's less then 5 hours sleep. I was in a deep sleep too. He had no real reason to wake me as rowan was asleep. In his head this was a time we had spoken about and a regular time I've woken him. He did not take into account at all the time I brought her up. He was in bed from 9pm last night. He got more sleep than me!

I'm flipping knackered. And very angry at him. He's taken her out for a walk saying sorry and go back to bed but the damage is done.

sarah13xx · 12/09/2021 09:01

@Ready2020 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ They literally do not think! Hope you manage to have a nap

biscuitcat · 12/09/2021 11:23

Oh @Ready2020, what a pain! I'm sure he didn't mean harm but he didn't really think did he? Would just dozing in bed, even if you can't drop off, be helpful - DH gets dreadful insomnia and that's what he does when he can't sleep but is tired

Daffodil21 · 12/09/2021 13:33

Mugged myself right off last night - we all went to bed earlier as DH was falling asleep on the sofa and I could feel myself about to too, baby was asleep on me so I put him in his crib and he stayed asleep. DH starts snoring and keeping me awake so I kicked him out to the spare room, meaning I had to do the 12:30ish shift and the 3/4am one. He normally does the 12:30 one so I can feel vaguely human the next day if I go to bed early but I kicked him out before then so I ended up doing that the the 3/4am one. Why I didn't move because he was the one snoring, I don't know! (He's not working today). Feel ok today because I took him into DH for the 6:30 feed and I went back to bed until 9:30, so no harm done really but he was supposed to be doing the 3/4am feed for once so I didn't have to. To be fair, he did come in and said 'i can feed while you pump' but I sent him back to bed as I wanted him to do from 6:30 onwards and if he does anything extra he tends to end up dropping one the next night which leaves me tired the next day, and no point both of us being up either.

Elliot is being very restless lately and every time I think we have it sussed (formula change, infacol etc) it never seems to last. Next thing to try is gripe water but local Tesco doesn't have any, so DH says he's going to go and see if Asda has anything (25 min drive away), and do a dump run while he's out. This was half hour ago, so lunch time. Elliot was being a pain and I hadn't had lunch, and he'll likely been gone for a couple of hours, so I suggested maybe it would be nice if he waited just a bit longer so I could have lunch at lunch time in peace for once. Didn't seem to occur to him. I so wish I could drive so I could be the one to go to Asda and leave them both at home. I'm definitely fine to drive but insurance company says ok as long as doc says ok, and I can't exactly book and appointment just for that so I'll have to wait until 6 week app, which thankfully isn't that far away.

Any suggestions welcome!

Daffodil21 · 12/09/2021 13:36

Oh also meant to add - formula tub says he should be on 25oz total per 24 hours for next few weeks. We haven't been recording how much as if he's crying for food there's not a lot we can do except for feed him. But we started to record since midnight and he's already up to 19.5oz out of the 25 he's supposed to have until midnight.

Can't be helping with his uncomfortableness if he's over feeding? HV suggested giving him a bit of cooled boiling water in between feeds but he just screamed so that was a shit load of good 🙄

Daffodil21 · 12/09/2021 13:36

Sorry for essays!!

Smurf123 · 12/09/2021 14:54

@Daffodil21 try different temps of cooled boiled water ? Sophia won't take it cold but will take it warmish
We also have been using dentinox colic drops which I put in the warm cooled boiled water in the evenings.
I thought she seemed to be coping better with the wind and was content yesterday evening so I didn't give it to her at bedtime... well wasn't that a mistake, she was up all night.

PurplePansy05 · 12/09/2021 15:05

I thought we're not supposed to be giving them any water at all till they're at least 6 months old, milk only? I see what you're saying @Daffodil21, it was my concern about FF too as Leo was guzzling down loads in the first few days after the birth in hospital, too much for his age and size. Then with top ups I am also cautious and feed him in stages, 30 ml, break, hold upright, then again, until he settles. I personally don't think he recognises when he's full when given formula. Obviously I know this might not be very helpful if you FF more, but would splitting the feeds into smaller portions help a bit? I get it would be a pain and take longer etc xx

Fran919 · 12/09/2021 15:10

@Daffodil21 - DD is also restless just when we thought we’ve cracked it, she’s been really struggling with pooing and the hiccups she has are constant and really bother her. She was rooting / crying for food every 2 hours last night despite being fed and doing well.
We’ve started a feeding tracker too today as I’m concerned I’m over feeding, I’ve got to take her to get weighed Wednesday before the HV will suggest anything for the reflux but I have read today that infacol can make reflux worse because the orange flavour is acidic so I’ve ordered dentinox colic drops as @Smurf123 has suggested.

On a personal note, how is everyone getting with pelvic floor exercises? How many seconds can you hold? I’m 3 weeks PP after an epi and 3 seconds is my max, not sure what’s ‘normal’. I’ve booked for a mummy MOT at 6 weeks with a women’s physiotherapist just to get checked out.

Daffodil21 · 12/09/2021 15:22

@Smurf123 he drank it fine but then made such a fuss after! How much do you give her? I couldn't find anything on amounts?

@PurplePansy05 you can but if it's before 6 months it needs to be cooled boiled water. After 6 months I think you can give it to them from the tap (but not 100% sure on that). He would just cry for more if we split his feeds.

@Fran919 yeah we've abandoned the infacol now. Makes sense about the orange flavour. Erm, I'm really bad with doing PV exercises 🙈

We've just given him gripe water (it smell like sambucca 😂) he seems fine for now but I'm not getting my hopes up. DH also got something called Colief to try if not. (£13 odd for that tiny bottle?! It better be magic stuff!)

Smurf123 · 12/09/2021 15:30

@PurplePansy05 they don't really need cooled boiled water but it is ok to give them it it just shouldn't be in place of a feed I think and if breastfeeding they say it could reduce supply as may cos baby to feed less.
With ds we had hv recommend it for constipation
With dd I use it just for the dentinox as I don't express and she hasn't had formula yet and I literally just use about 10mls to get the dentinox in her through bottle teat - unlike gripe water the dentinox stuff is quite thick

Smurf123 · 12/09/2021 15:32

@Daffodil21 I only do a wee bit like no more than 30ml probably less sometimes for the dentinox to go in

I've heard good things about colief my friend swore by it for her twins but I haven't been able to find any.

Infacol I swore made ds worse so I haven't tried it this time around

PurplePansy05 · 12/09/2021 16:11

Ah fair enough, thanks girls! I didn't know and actually wasn't sure what to do with baby Gaviscon. GP said to mix up with formula top up but the other day DS didn't have any formula at all and then it says to mix up with water. But I thought newborns shouldn't have any water and felt rather confused! Your posts are very helpful.

@Inmypjsagain you're gonna laugh at me...I caved in and bought him a Baby Bjorn. DS LOVES it. Loves it. I read so many comments how it helps refluxy babies and yes, so far so good. I've been hunting it down on Fb Marketplace and had a fantastic deal, £35 for the bouncer with cover and the original toy bar. The cover is a bit washed out, but it's perfectly fine. Came in the original box so could even resell it. I love the design so much and I take all my doubtful comments about it back. Lesson learnt, trust the great wisdom of MN Grin xx

Ready2020 · 12/09/2021 16:23

@PurplePansy05 I was given a baby bjorn bouncer from sister law but DD hates it. She hates any form of rocker or bouncer etc. Did yours just like it from the start or did you need to convince him?

lucyrp · 12/09/2021 16:30

@Daffodil21 how many oz do you give a time ?? I don't see how the formula box can be very helpful as I've been told 4oz maximum for each feed and a minimum of 8 feeds which would equal 32oz so surely can't be right ?

Daffodil21 · 12/09/2021 16:35

@lucyrp sometimes 4oz sometimes 5oz. He doesn't always drink it all though. We were saying similar - the box says 5 x 5oz per day, but that would mean almost 5 hours between each feed which definitely isn't happening.

PurplePansy05 · 12/09/2021 16:58

@Ready2020 He loves sitting in it and the bounce of it, starts crying when it stops bouncing. He's too little to bounce himself yet, but it won't be long. I've started putting him in it after a feed when he's content, otherwise it's holding him for a while which we just can't always do and there's no way he'd lie flat after a feed if he's awake or snoozing lightly. He just screams and screams and he'd be sick quickly which makes me worried he might choke. So it's been amazing for this so far! xx

Ava50x · 12/09/2021 17:08

Hi,

I'm surfacing from my newborn hidey-hole and discovering that there are far too many messages here to catch up with! Hope everyone is doing well and adjusting to parenthood.

DS is a lovely baby, very chilled and seems to have taken to breastfeeding very well, he'd gained 160g by day 5 and another 20g by day 10 so we're doing well in that department.

Hope I will manage to rejoin the thread now but will probably be less frequently now that I am busy with a newborn and 3 other DC!

Ready2020 · 12/09/2021 18:06

@afictionado hope your day got better x
