@Magik01 i could unbutton him and take a peek to check. I don't think he's done anything this time as he usually makes pushing sounds when does so I've put him back in his crib without checking.

I suppose my main question was if you KNEW they'd done a poo since the nappy change 20 mins previously, but they were settled, would you change again?

@Daffodil21 if I knew they had done a poop then yes I would change, if I was unsure and couldn’t smell anything I’d probably leave them if they were asleep 😅

@Daffodil21 If he seems content/settled and you don't think he's done a poo I would leave it, but if I think there's a poo then generally I'd change it to avoid nappy rash. I do the sniff test. 😅 Usually you can smell if there's something in there. Unfortunately my baby always seems to time his poos when he's just drifting off to sleep, sigh. But if I don't change him right away he does tend to wake up again and grizzle so I suspect it's not very comfortable. Fair enough really!

But it's up to you, there have been times when I haven't been sure and I've just left it because I was tired and couldn't be bothered. Or I tell DH it's his turn. 😂

Quick update, our little man was born yesterday morning weighing 7lbs 11.

@Daffodil21 I've had times where I've changed then fed and settled then heard that wet fart noise and just left it thinking if it's really bothering her she'll wake and tell me. Sometimes she does an hour later other times its just a fart.

My night started at 1.30 and she's been doing her awake but flappy thing. She did do 2 very pooy nappies though so I'm hoping it's just that that's kept her awake and she's going to settle after this feed. I really need to pump this milk out of me too as I'm quite full. Seems a pain to do it when I could be sleeping but best get it out. I think it's the start of a new pumping time for me. Flipping hungry too so I'll munch a biscuit as I go.

@Daffodil21 Lol definitely not asleep here Just to say, I do the same as Magik & afictionado. DS doesn't normally poop during or straight after the feed though, it tends to be some farts/small sharts if anything so I try not to bother him if he's comfortable.

@BertieBotts your boys are so scrumptious! And look at the little man's faces, so precious. You have to print and frame some of these 💙😍 xx

@Daffodil21 what a cutie!!! Happy changes at night we always do before a feed, otherwise we find it wakes him too much, he’s never actually done a poo at night after being a few days old. If I knew he had pooped though I would change him.

Definitely not awake here! So much projectile vomit, the distance it goes. It’s a viscous circle, he’s hungry- so he eats, then he’s sick and uncomfortable, but then no food has gone down so he’s hungry and cries, am at a loss at what to do!

Thanks ladies - as expected unfortunately 😂 until now I have always changed as soon as I'm aware of a pooey nappy, I was just hoping to be able to leave for a couple of hours at night 😀

Morning all. Just finishing the night shift shortly to get done shit eye time. Baby girl was restless most of the night. She's been hungry all night and kept rooting for the breast. She fell asleep just before 4 and am feeding again.

Anyways for those asking about nappy changes, the HV told me to start a feed and half way burp baby and change her nappy then. This will also wake her up. Then give her the same breast to finish off so she can have the hind milk too. Once she falls asleep after that then you don't have to worry about nappy changes. Been doing that since Wednesday and it works well for us.

@Whatshouldbemyusername this only seem to start properly yday, he was a bit sicky before and grunty but not all the time and not enough to worry about. Suddenly it got bad yday but then really bad in the evening. I called the drs this morning and have an appointment booked for next week! That feels so long to wait so I’m going to call the health visitor, I feel so bad for the poor little mite. I’m wondering if I should try an anti reflux formula, then talk to HV/Dr, sounds like gaviscon thickens up the food and the formula is pre thickened? Such a minefield 🤯

@Whatshouldbemyusername i like this advice. Will be trying this in future. I keep going through 2 nappies in 20 mins in the night otherwise!

@Inmypjsagain I'm slightly jealous you can book a gp appointment! I've just pressed redial 95 times before finally getting through to a receptionist.. ours are still trying to do phone call only though I'm going to try and insist that someone sees dd today, her belly button is still oozing w bit and there's one bit in the middle that looks really red despite antibiotic cream the last few days. I'd just feel better if they saw it without trying to diagnose over the phone and a photo as I don't think the photo really showed what it's like. She also has a bit of a rash on her face and neck though I'm fairly certain it's likely just baby acne and being made worse with current heat but my hv is on holiday for a week and it's a bank holiday on Monday too. She's feeding lots so I'm sure it's ok

@Inmypjsagain im not sure about gaviscon I think it creates a barrier to stop reflux coming back up.. they can also give you carobel to thicken regular formula I think too it's just a thickening agent but it doesn't taste great so sometimes they refuse to drink it. (We had to taste all the different types of thickener at a training session at work last year as we have kids on it in school)

When I'm not sure about a poo I just open the sleepsuit at the leg and slightly pull the nappy away at the leg opening, you can generally see IME if they need changing.

I've had a horrendous night, been up with terrible haemorrhoid pain. Feels like they've come all the way out and every tiny movement is extremely painful. Called GP this morning, and they've actually called me in to be seen- cannot believe I have been granted entry into those hallowed halls!! I'm just super stressed about giving birth now and don't know what to do...

@Smurf123 I wish it face to face, it’s a phone appointment. I said I’ll have a baby in pain and not able to feed all weekend but still next Tuesday at the earliest. Health visitor isn’t answering. We went out this morning and got some formula to try, shame we can’t get gaviscon over the counter because I’m not sure how to make this better for him. Thanks for letting me know about that and the carobel. Hope your LO is okay, sound me like she really needs to be seen. It took 15 mins to get through to the dr but having to call 96 times is ridiculous!!! Hope you managed to get an appointment.

@Inmypjsagain I’ve got a phone call with the gp later today about possible reflux. We had a bad night, he was throwing up whatever he ate. Got through about 5 Muslins then this morning his swaddle was soaking around the neck so had been sick more whilst lying down which I felt terrible about. It also happens when he hasn’t even just eaten so not sure why.
We tend to give a bottle at about 10.30pm and he was really sicky after that so maybe need to try a different bottle in case the teat is too fast. We are using mam 1’s but noticed they make a 0 size teat so perhaps that’s better?

Had my health visitor appointment today. Rowan is now 8lbs 11oz! That's 11oz on this week. Despite the feeding issues she's getting plenty of milk.

HV still thinks it's latching issues that are causing the pain and suggested looking up flipple technique. We also think the coming off the boob is due to too much milk coming out. Rowan actually choked on my boob a few times today due to too much milk coming out. But I've not pumped so I guess there is a lot in there.

The HV actually said to use formula for the night bottle if pumping was causing too much stress. It would make life much easier to use formula for that feed as I've lost my pumping routine and not sure how to get it back.
