In that case I've felt them! The hiccups! I did think it felt odd, like a pulse. Cool 😊

My NCT is this weekend too. I'm just dreading 6 hours of zoom call. I'm sure they'll have lots of breaks but I'll maybe sit on my ball for most of it.

For those asking about my sister, she's doing OK ta. Just had her 3rd chemo yesterday and had a scan booked to see if it's helping any. So that's the next biggie. It's at the end of July. She's dealing with the chemo better now I think as they've got the drug mix sorted. We've had a nice spa day last weekend and are going to bingo next week once I am on maternity.

Whatshouldbemyusername · 02/07/2021 10:02

Sorry ladies haven't had a chance to catch up much on the thread..

@BertieBotts I've been using "your baby your birth" for hypnobirthing. I've always been into meditation and all so I do like the book. Maybe check that out if that works for you? Truth of the matter is we know it's not a painless experience. It just helps you realise how much you can control the pain by looking inward rather outward x

@Ready2020 glad your sis is doing better. She's in all our prayers just as you are x

@alittlexmasmagic it will all be well. Keep us updated on Monday x

Can I just say how glad I am it's Friday!!! I'm only working half day today and I've got flexi on Monday.

notinthestarsigns · 02/07/2021 10:43

Hope the growth scan goes ok @alittlexmasmagic, always worrying but good that they are doing extra checks.

I finish work a week today and feeling very overwhelmed by it all at the moment. I switch between being desperate to finish and feeling sick about handing over work etc. Probably all not helped by hormones and lack of sleep, think I’m just exhausted. I’m sure it will do me good to get work out the way if I can just get through the next 7 days!

Ava50x · 02/07/2021 10:58

Gosh i've got so much to catch up on on this thread!

@BertieBotts with regards to hypnobirthing, I don't go for the hippy dippy stuff at all, but I actually found the knowledge very empowering. For example the knowledge that you don't have to push, your body knows how to do it was a huge relief for me, because I hated the pushing. So with my last one (after having done a course) I didn't push at all. Just kept up the breathing and took some gas & air until baby was crowning. It was unbelievable for me- cured me of my phobia of pushing. Another thing I would say re hypno is that its basically a case of the more you practice, the more you can get out of it in labour. You're basically conditioning your brain so that you can distract yourself from the pain. Reading up is great, but actually doing the exercises again and again will be the most helpful for you for when you're in labour.

lucyrp · 02/07/2021 13:15

@notinthestarsigns are you taking early maternity leave ?

notinthestarsigns · 02/07/2021 14:02

@lucyrp I have a ridiculous amount of leave to take due to leave that was carried over from last year, and there is only so much that I can carry forward to next year to tag on at the end, so I am taking a few weeks annual leave before officially starting mat leave.

lucyrp · 02/07/2021 15:26

@notinthestarsigns oh thag makes sense. How many weeks are you now ? 32 ish? I am taking 2 weeks annual leave before my maternity leave but I'm not going off on AL until 38 weeks. Wish I'd booked it sooner it's so hot today its ridiculous

notinthestarsigns · 02/07/2021 16:00

@lucyrp just coming up to 33, so I’ll be 34 the weekend after I finish, and I’m booked in for induction at 38+1 if the baby doesn’t arrive before so if all goes to plan will be 4 weeks off before the baby comes. It is very warm today!

wimbler · 02/07/2021 20:32

I need to get back on the hypnobirthing. I really need to focus on the breathing bits too. I’ve been putting it off as I was convinced I was having another breech baby but I had my 36 week appointment today and baby is head down and apparently in a perfect position 🎉 can’t believe I’m full term next week 😱
Had a bit of freak out today and finally got round to washing and sorting through all my new born bits. My sister in law gave me a load more too. I even ironed them. I never iron anything. I think being on mat leave has brought out the nesting!

wimbler · 02/07/2021 20:32

It’s also only just clicked that it’s due date month for me 😱😱😱 how did that happen??!

Daffodil21 · 03/07/2021 07:52

Just been reading some of this thread and thought some of you ladies might enjoy it too:

Best parenting tip you ever got? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amibeing_unreasonable/4286559-best-parenting-tip-you-ever-got

@wimbler scary! 😱😱 but also happy due date month!

OP posts:
lucyrp · 03/07/2021 07:54

@wimbler I had a similar revelation that I could now say "I'm having a baby next month"😳😳

Does anyone else get pins and needles when sat on the loo even for the shortest periods of time ??

alittlexmasmagic · 03/07/2021 08:02

I had a similar revelation but for me it could easily be September too left to it's own devices 😩 x

Smurf123 · 03/07/2021 08:25

@Daffodil21 I've just been reading that thread too.. Love it!

biscuitcat · 03/07/2021 08:43

@Daffodil21 that thread is lovely 🥰 just what I needed this morning

I think my body is starting to tell me to take it easier - currently up in London for a friend's stag do (is it still a stag do if women are invited too?) and walked much further and faster yesterday than I have in a long time - have been in pain since so I'm going to bail early today!

lucyrp · 03/07/2021 10:12

@alittlexmasmagic yeah same here, although I haven't really thought about that so maybe I should prepare myself. I keep saying I've probably only got 4 weeks left but that only takes me to 38 weeks I'm clearly far too positive about it 🤣

HopefulB · 03/07/2021 11:30

Eeek, kitchen work are starting Monday!
(33 weeks) 2 weeks for them, and 2 weeks for each bathroom - keep your fingers crossed baby is happy where they are!!

Got to finish the bedroom painting today otherwise one of us has no where to work on Monday…..

Jessicapebbles · 03/07/2021 13:46

@WolfMother326 Sorry I haven’t replied to your message, I’ve been so busy and not had chance to catch up on so many pages!

My Crohns has actually been at bay throughout my pregnancy, I’m still on my Azathioprine which is an immunosuppressive med too. Did they have a reason for taking you off your meds? I did flare up after having my daughter as hormones were settling etc and ended up on steroids for 6 weeks so I’m prepared this time around!

Now to go back and read everyone’s updates! Xx

Daffodil21 · 03/07/2021 16:49

I have another stupid question....Blush

I'm looking to bf if I can - I've read that milk can come in on day 3, is this typical or is it usually quicker than that? If it's not coming straight away, what happens? Formula?

OP posts:
wimbler · 03/07/2021 16:57

@Daffodil21 for the first few days you will
Produce colostrum which is all baby needs. They need very small amounts as their tummies are so small. You can harvest this pre birth if you want and freeze in syringes as well but the baby breastfeeding on your colostrum is what stimulates your milk to come in. I took formula as back up to the hospital but never needed it but I think most hospitals have some that they will give to you provided if really needed

Jessicapebbles · 03/07/2021 17:02

@Daffodil21 I second @wimbler, baby will have your colostrum. I think mine came in on day 2. X

Daffodil21 · 03/07/2021 17:06

@wimbler @Jessicapebbles thank you both! I didn't know the colostrum was enough without actual milk. I've packed pre-made formula that come with teat things in my hospital bag just in case, but hoping not to need them

OP posts:
Jessicapebbles · 03/07/2021 17:09

@Daffodil21 We have down the same, we used them for my first but I was so worried with my first that she wasn’t getting enough, I feel a lot more relaxed this time to trust the colostrum haha! However still taking the little bottles just incase! X

BertieBotts · 03/07/2021 18:01

Yes milk normally comes in on about day 3. You produce colostrum until then. This is very concentrated and high in calories so it's enough for them.

If you have a c-section or traumatic birth or are separated from your baby sometimes milk coming in is delayed, mine came in on day 6 last time. I produced colostrum until then, but because DS2 had been given formula in NICU when I wasn't there (I was in another hospital) his tummy was already a bit "stretched" and he needed top ups for a while.

If you're planning on breastfeeding then the hospital will provide formula if your baby needs it, but most have the policy that if you want to feed formula you need to bring your own.

Smurf123 · 03/07/2021 18:28

I didn't bring any formula for ds. He ended up n nicu so my milk didn't come in right away / I just couldn't get much expressing so the hospital asked was it ok to top him up with formula - he was initially tube fed. They even have is a choice of which formula we wanted to use.
I would say though don't panic if you do need to initial top up with formula it doesn't mean you cant go on to exclusively breastfeed if that's what you want. I was worried about it but when ds was allowed out of the incubator at 5 days old he started to breastfeed and was pretty much exclusively breastfed from a week old when we got home from hospital.. Though he did have the odd bottle just for me to have a few hours sleep etc
