Anyone expecting twins Aug/Sept/Oct 2021?

MF1981 · 27/04/2021 13:09

I'm expecting twins (currently 16+2) and my due date is 10th October, although they'll be delivered no later than 37 weeks so looking at a date around 20th September I think, if not before. I'm a first time mum so it would be great to connect with other expectant twin mummies - I don't think there's that many of us around!

Me! Due Nov so expecting them early October. I’d love a group, great idea!

MF1981 · 29/04/2021 14:10

Yay! Hi @EssentialHummus !

How are you feeling?

Even if it’s just two of us I’d love a chat Smile. I’m 13/14 weeks now and still very nauseous and meh - massive shock after an easy early pregnancy with DD. We’ve now told family and work who are very happy, and a friend with older twins can’t wait to de-clutter her loft/pass on all the gear.

How are you doing there? Do you have any other DC in the mix?

MF1981 · 29/04/2021 16:41

Likewise! Ooohh you’re very lucky to have hand me downs! I’m 40 so most of my friends and my sister have older children now and my partner is 31 so he’s one of the first in his group of friends to have children. No other children for us - we’re just getting it all done in one go! I’ve been feeling pretty rubbish too until this week when I’ve suddenly started feeling a bit more human. Although still quite tired. I’ve started taking heartburn medication and that seems to have made a big difference. Hopefully you’ll start to feel better soon.

The tiredness is nuts isn’t it? I put the toddler down to nap and then nap myself most days Grin. Are you wfh at least, so you can rest a bit?

MF1981 · 29/04/2021 17:27

Yes luckily I’m working from home - I was napping twice a day but now I only nap after work every other day or so. Are your twins identical or non identical?

Sorry to barge in, there was another thread on twins but I can't find it! I'm 35+5 with DCDA twins so I'm at the final push! Hope you are both keeping well!!!

EssentialHummus · 01/05/2021 21:31

Hey rose - how are you feeling? I remember being at that stage with my singleton and being totally fed up / ready to meet her.

MF gah, only saw your reply when rose bumped your post! I haven’t quite got my head round the terminology but mine have separate eggs so presumably non-ID? What about yours?

The twin comments / questions have been coming in thick and fast since we told family and friends. Everything from “ooh, you’ll have your hands full” to questions about whether it was planned Confused. Totally fine for now but I expect it will wear thin.

Hi ladies, can I join in? I’m 12 weeks tomorrow with IVF twins, first pregnancy and have been feeling AWFUL! Would be so lovely to chat to people in the same boat. We are due November 20th so expecting October to be the month!

MF1981 · 06/05/2021 18:12

Hey @JessTTC congrats and yes please do join us! Mine is an IVF pregnancy too and I’m a first timer. I was also feeling awful up until last week and suddenly something clicked and I feel much better. So there is light at the end of the tunnel! Have you had your 12 week scan yet?

@rosegoldivy I couldn’t find any other groups so thought I’d start one! How are you feeling now? Have you got a delivery date planned in?

@EssentialHummus mine were different eggs too and have separate sacs and placentas. Yeah people do ask the weirdest things don’t they?! And everyone is obsessed with asking the gender!

@MF1981 we have our official 12 week scan coming up this Tuesday but I’ve spent a small fortune on private scans as my anxiety after lots of bleeding early on was through the roof. We had one last night and they were moving about like mad in there and both measuring really good sizes so starting to feel slightly less psychotic! How many weeks were you when it started to get better? I’m hoping when I stop the extra IVF hormones in the next week, the sickness will improve but I’m not holding out much hope. I’ve been on anti sickness tablets this week, they work until about lunch time and then I’m useless until bed time when I can take the next. I’m so thankful for these babies, I’m still pinching myself that the IVF has worked but I am SO ready to not feel like I’m going to puke all day long!

MF1981 · 06/05/2021 21:09

@JessTTC it was around 16 weeks that I started to feel better. I started taking omeprazole for the terrible heartburn I had and I felt like a new woman virtually overnight. I think a lot of my nausea in the end was coming from the heartburn. I was the same - I would cry because I felt so awful and then feel so guilty because these babies are so wanted and I felt like I should be enjoying it. But it’s much better now. Keep the faith!

How’s everyone doing? I’m impatiently awaiting my 20 week scan a week today! I had an internal scan last week to check my cervix and they did an ultrasound to check the babies as well. They were facing each other with their heads together - so cute!

How is everyone?

EssentialHummus · 15/06/2021 14:12

Hey @MF1981, I was just wondering about you and this thread and it popped up in Active. Why don't I get notifications??! Anyway - all good here. Had my 20 week scan today, babies are both fine and we found out we're having one of each (as my toddler requested Grin). Feeling really happy and relieved. How are you? How was your scan?

MF1981 · 15/06/2021 15:33

Hey @EssentialHummus so nice to hear from you! Glad to hear the scan went well. I had my 20 week scan nearly 3 weeks ago now and we found out that we’re also having a boy and a girl! Woohoo! I’m back in tomorrow for an early 24 week growth scan as we’re on holiday next week when it should be. I’m ok but really struggling with almost daily nosebleeds and swollen ankles. The doctor last week said he wanted to put me on clexane injections from 24 weeks until 6 weeks after birth but I’m worried about being put on more blood thinners given the nosebleeds. I’ve had a blood test today at my midwife’s request to check coagulant levels so we’ll see what happens after that. How have you been feeling? Have they mentioned clexane injections to you?

OP posts:
EssentialHummus · 15/06/2021 16:24

Gaaaw, lovely news! DH piped up with “Well, a boy and girl is the most likely statistically” after we left the scan. Not exactly what I was thinking about, thanks matey Grin.

Do you know why your doctor suggested clexane injections - were they worried about something specific to think about prescribing them? I hope they can offer an alternative; I haven’t heard anything (yet) but friends with singletons have. One person with a heart problem, one I’m not sure why. I do find the more frequent scans reassuring though, grateful to have them.

I hope you get to enjoy your holiday - we were off last week and it was really lovely. Our toddler had a blast.

EssentialHummus · 15/06/2021 16:25

I’m feeling generally well but absolutely melting in this heat. Ordered a portable neck fan yesterday Confused

MF1981 · 15/06/2021 19:58

It’s because I’m increased risk for blood clots - twins, ivf, my age, history of stroke in the family. But I thought that was what the aspirin for so this has come out of the blue really. Yes the heat is so tough! Kind of glad the forecast is cooler for next week but think my partner is a bit disappointed! Are your twins slightly different in size? Ours are - the boy is a little bigger than the girl. I agree with you re the scans - so reassuring and it’s nice to get to see them regularly. Especially as I’ve not been feeling consistent movements.

OP posts:
EssentialHummus · 16/06/2021 18:49

Same here on movements - it turns out I have two anterior placentas so even when they were going wild during the scan I couldn't feel a thing. I had the same with DD, feel like I'm missing out!

And yes - ever so slightly larger boy.

I hope you can swerve the injections. I am finding the doctors etc much more risk averse with this twin pregnancy - my 20w scan was followed up by an internal scan to check the length of my cervix?? - which I know is for good reason but you just hope that they are being reasonable about what they recommend. I'm sure they are.

Have a wonderful holiday. I think the cooler weather should work in your favour!

villainousbroodmare · 16/06/2021 18:58

Twins are the best! I was quite alarmed when I realised I was expecting two but it's just wonderful. Not twice as much work as one, and the way they interact with each other is just a joy to see.

rosegoldivy · 04/07/2021 06:35

Hey guys, I posted once and disappeared! We brought our twins into the world on 11th may, baby girl weighing 6lb0.5 and baby boy weighing 6lb3 born by elective section!
I can honestly say the section was great and was actually such an enjoyable experience which sounds crazy. I had an emergency section in 2019 so was such a different experience. We were lucky enough to get home the next day and I had a great recovery.
Twins are now nearly 8 weeks old. Baby boy having issues with reflux and milk allergies but baby girl is just an absolute angel. Currently surviving on coffee and fumes!
Happy to answer any questions or anything any of you have about your up and coming arrivals!

Hope your all doing well.
